Keeping It Short & Sweet

Hello my favorite blog readers! Looks like the favorite Superbowl commercial is hands down “The Force” by Volkswagen. If you haven’t seen it, check it out here:

That little boy is SO super cute!

I had a great time at the Predators game last night, even though they totally punked out and lost to the Edmonton Oilers (the lowest standing team in the entire division)! I have officially declared myself the team jinx. I have NEVER been to a game where the Preds have actually one…so sad! ๐Ÿ™

I’ve been in a bit of a haze today due to staying out too late and having to get up early for work this morning. It’s 8:00pm and I can barely keep my eyes open! Needless to say, this post will be “short and SWEET“!

I wasn’t sure what to expect out of my first day after Sugar-Free Week. I half expected to go on an all out sugar binge, but surprisingly I haven’t really had any cravings. I woke up this morning and was excited to try my Silk Soy Eggnog that I’ve hoarded for months with a bowl of eggnog oats. After my first taste, that idea went out the window! Is it just me or is that stuff like THIS sweet?! Holy cow! Guess my taste buds have changed a bit over the last week?

I finally decided on a warm bowl of ย strawberry & banana oats topped with some 18 Rabbits Granola. It was maaaaaaaarvelous! AND totally decked out for V-Day! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I so wish I could take the creative credit for these oh-so-cute banana hearts, but I totally stole it off a newly discovered blog, Ten Things That. If you haven’t seen it, go check it out! Serena has some beeeee-utiful pics!

In the bowl:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 cup water
  • splash of vanilla and a dash of cinnamon
  • 1/2 “whipped” banana

Throughout the day, I found myself reaching for the same naturally sweetened snacks that I’ve munched on for the last week. I didn’t even crave chocolate! Hmm…

And then came dinner…all I wanted was a TJ’s Masala Veggie burger and the Masala Lentil Dip I was drooling over today (both contain added sugar) so I whipped up Aย Huge Heather Salad and savored every (minimally sweetened) bite!

Masala Veggie Salad:

  • HUGE handful of spinach
  • TJ’s Masala Veggie Burger
  • 1/4 cup garbanzo beans
  • shredded carrots
  • zucchini
  • peas
  • tomato
  • 1 hard-boiled egg white (to make up for the protein-lacking veggie burg)

Drizzled with balsamic vinegar and served alongside whole wheat naan “bread sticks”, TJ’s Lentil Dip and sweet mini peppers. Mmm, this salad had it ALL going on in the flavor department!

Not a bad transition back into the world of the sugared, huh?

One last thing before my head falls onto the keyboard I sign off for the night.ย I was going to wait until I got the hang of it, but it’s been a bit of aย slow process so I figured I’d go ahead and tell you guys…I got a Twitter account!

My very first tweet:

Now…somebody tell me how to use the darn thing!! Follow me! Help me! Love me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

zzzzzz….

  1. LOVE that commercial! And that Valentine’s themed oatmeal! This post made me smile so much! And girl, I am still trying to figure twitter out myself. I keep thinking that I need to use it and I keep not using it, haha!

  2. Mrs. Fish says:

Um, I love those banana hearts. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I always love new ideas for salads! Those heart shaped bananas are adorable. You took some beautiful photographs! I must say that after awhile of not eating foods with added sugar it is quite a difference to dive back into sweets. I haven’t tried the Silk eggnog but I heard it’s a good substitute for the “real thing”. I want to give this salad a try, all the way down to those breadsticks!

    • Thank you Dionne! I totally cheated with the “breadsticks.” It’s just TJ’s whole wheat naan cut into strips with a pizza cutter! Haha! But I totally want to try making my own naan…maybe you could make it one of your bread posts?

I’m following you! Twitter is a fun way to keep yourself occupied while you are supposed to be doing work. At least, that’s what I use it for!

  6. Love your heart bananas… the cutest!! I signed up for Twitter and haven’t touched it… I’m scared! In other news… my blog is migrating to self-hosting as we speak! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. โ€œThe Forceโ€ by Volkswagen is my favorite too!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Girl, I am absolutely LOVING your banana hearts!!!! SO CUTE!!! Were they very hard to make?

    • It wasn’t too hard. I just used a small knife, started with making a “V” and then cut off the sides to make it heart-shaped! Though I did end up with a few odd looking triangles Those of course I had to taste for quality assurance purposes…wanted to make sure ugly heart shaped bananas didn’t taste any different! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. So since you stole the banana hearts ideas, I’m stealing it right from you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love how creative in general you are though!

  9. Yay for you being on Twitter! I’m following you ๐Ÿ™‚ I am LOVING your oatmeal. That made me smile!

  10. I’m sooo about to go follow you! ๐Ÿ™‚ Your photos are always so beautiful… I love those hearts!!!

  11. It’s amazing a quickly can the body adapt, isn’t it? It was the same with me. A couple of years ago I had to cut sugar drastically as I found out it was causing me major migraines. Now I enojoy sweets every now and then but mostly I’d rather make them myself since I find that otherwise there’s way too much sugar! Things that I used to love I now find way too sweet for my liking.

    • Yes, I definitely prefer to make my own treats! I went to a cookout a few months ago and wanted to nibble my way through all the desserts. I took a small bite of three different ones and one the last one, I swear I almost passed out! Of course I knew it was going to be extra sweet (it was some sort of apple dumpling thing made with Mt. Dew), but I didn’t think it would affect me like that! Crazy!

  12. Sere says:

    Thanks for the credits =)

    Love the salad!

    • Your welcome! Love what I’ve seen of your blog so far! You have some great photography skills!

      • Sere says:

Thank you! It’s all self- (and boyfriend) taught, but I try to improve everyday and it allows me to eat a lot of sweets because they are pretty to photograph ah ah! =)

For the bananas I used a heart-shaped cookie cutter, easier than a knife!

You are good photographer too! What camera do you use?

        • Oh yeah, that would’ve made it much easier! Haha! Yes, love taking pics of baked goods! Especially cookies!

I just got a Canon EOS Rebel XS…still learning, but I’m pretty proud of myself for busting out the manual focus a couple of weeks ago! What do you use?

          • Sere says:

I have a Nikon d5000. I usually work in manual setting, but not in manual focus since I’m myope and for some strange reason I can’t do a decent work in manual, ah ah =)

  13. yay for twitter! i will add YOU!!.. and YOUR BREAKFAST IS GORGEOUS! i will go chek that commercial ahora!
