WIAW: What’s Your Flava?

Tell me what’s your flava?!

Alright, so now that we have our tune-age, let’s get this party started!

And as always, a big thank you to Jenn of Peas & Crayonsfor allowing these shenanigans to go down week after week!

Now, I didn’t pick that song for nothing folks, this WIAW post is heavy on the FLAVA…

combos that is!

Come…drool with me…

Breakfast (6:30am)
My go-to “in a hurry oats”:
1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup water, 1 small banana (sliced thin), vanilla extract and cinnamon all thrown in a bowl and nuked in the microwave for 4 minutes!

Topped with Studly Sunflower Seed Butter & orange dark chocolate squares

The chocolate on it’s own is out of this world, but the addition of the Β SSB put it over the top!

Yaaaa-umm!

Snack (10:30am)
Watermelon, Cucumber, & Feta Salad

Wish I could take credit for this one, but I got the idea from some magazine a couple of weeks ago. I couldn’t remember the exact recipe so I simply added freshly cracked black pepper and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar to the summer trinity…

Sweet and salty and oh so refreshing!

Lunch (12:30pm)
Hugh Jass spinach salad topped with cucumber, zucchini, carrots, onion, bell pepper, sun-dried tomato, cottage cheese, pine nuts and a leftover bean & mushroom burger
(recipe still needs tweaking)

Maybe the question is: What did I NOT put in the salad!?

With a side of HALF a kombucha
(expensive little devils…gotta ration them out, ya know?)

By the way, Gingerade is seriously rivaling Citrus as my favorite kombucha flavor!

Afternoon pick-me-up (3:30pm)
Iced coffee PLUS a shot of espresso and soy milk from a local coffee shop

After forgetting/running out of time to make coffee this morning, this cup was…

enjoyed…appreciated…NEEDED!

Snack (4:00pm)
Dry roasted edamame, Emerald’s cocoa roasted almonds, and dried tart cherries

I literally “mmm-ed” my way through two big handfuls of this delicious combo!

Dinner (8:00pm)
Scrambled BBQ eggs on Cranberry Pecan Bread with my “favorite at the momentΒ PB” and my ever trusty F.R.O.G preserves!

C’mon guys, I couldn’t have a post dedicated to flavor combos without indulging in
my most favorite foodie fusion of all!

Mark my words…I will never EVER get tired of BBQ and PB&J!

The recent PB obsession…SUPER crunchy (duh, like it says on the jar) with the PERFECT amount of sweetness!

And yes my friends THAT would be an okra “tree” planted behind my plate!

Who knew raw okra could be so tasty?!

Annnnd just because I like the angle of this shot so much, you get another pic! πŸ˜‰

And for dessert?

Gummies…and a cupcake πŸ˜‰

Now that’s an interesting combination!

It may not be Jenn’s Red Velvet Cupcake, but it was DEFINITELY delicious!

What flavorFULL combo have you been loving lately?

What’s your favorite “real” cupcake flavor? I would never turn down a free cupcake, but coconut cake is definitely one of my faves!

gingerade is winning for me too these days. and now I just need to try that cupcake reisling. its so hot that I could drink it from the bottle!

  2. Alexis says:

Yum love all your eats πŸ™‚
My favorite combo lately has been PB&J with cottage cheese and banana. I can’t seem to get enough of it

  3. I love the Kombucha πŸ™‚

Gingerade is pretty good, but citrus and trilogy will ALWAYS be my favs!

  4. Alexandra says:

I’m coming over to steal your breakfast. Yum! πŸ˜€
I can’t get enough carrots and pb lately, it is SUCH a delicious combo!

  5. Meg says:

Whenever I forget my coffee I HAVE to stop and get some – it’s just a part of life πŸ˜‰ Haha!

  6. Allie says:

Mmm, orange dark chocolate sounds like the perfect way to start a day. And BBQ sauce and PB are two things I can never get enough of either. Have to admit, I paused to consider whether a sweet BBQ sauce and PB would pair well together in sandwich form. Still can’t decide if that sounds appalling or delicious. And raw okra? I’ve never tried that. Love it battered and fried though, true South-style πŸ™‚

  7. You seriously make me want to drive 1 hour to whole foods just to get me some kombucha and cupcake riesling??? i am having serious wiaw jealousy issues right now!
I totally appreciated your artful angled photos today πŸ™‚
And chocolate + orange = heaven!!!

  8. dev says:

that watermelon greek salad looks delish!

  9. Lauren says:

I can’t say I have ever even thought about eating okra raw. Is it slimey? I always thought it was a southern food, but I say some pop at the Farmers’ Market last summer here in CO and have been on the lookout for some this year! Everything you eat always looks so dang good. PB and BBQ are meant to be πŸ™‚ I know all about rationing out kombucha!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Actually it’s not slimy at all when it’s raw. It’s when you cook it that it gets that funky weird texture…I steamed some the other day and they were…ok. They’re a bit sweeter when cooked, but that sliminess is hard to get past! I think I’ll just stick to eating them raw…love them dipped in hummus! πŸ™‚

  10. Whoaaa love the breakki, yumm! What a creative dinner, I’ve never had anything like that before πŸ˜€

  11. i dont know why, but i love coffee shots. maybe because i love coffee so much. and i love how cute you are.

ive always wanted to try that cupcake wine. i pass it in Total Wine and More all the time.

lovely post per usual. have a great wednesday ♥

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank Debbie! Have you ever had an espresso shot straight up? I swear I used to be addicted…you think I’m kidding! πŸ˜‰

  12. Ragnhild says:

I always look forward to your WIAWs!! Your eats looks sso so delicious! Im not sure how i feel about the PB+BBQ thing, but I do trust you, so who am I to argue? πŸ˜‰
    Happy WIAW:D

  13. Ahhh I love the skippy natural crunchy pb but I’ve never seen the honey kind!! I need to track that down. I love the Skippy because 1. It tastes good 2. It doesn’t have weird ingredients 3. It’s waaay cheaper

    Happy WIAW

  14. WOW. That really does all look delicious!

  15. claire says:

Wow, that breakfast looks INCREDBILE. Can I come over and eat with you?

  16. Gingerade trilogy and strawberry…. those are my top 3 fo sho! citrus is good but doesnt taste like kombucha so I forget what i’m drinking sometimes! lol. ooh! bet i could re-glass it and trick paul. SCORE!

Good to know the riesling rawks! I have been scared to try another flavor since the cab made me gag. Red velvet is my jaaaaam! <3 and this baby is next!

so i'm in the weirdest mood evahhhh if you can tell by my comment and i'm supposed to be packing. or getting some vitamin d. or both so.. talk to you soon darling! <3 mwah!

  17. Hehe I ration out my kombucha too. But I have to say that gingerade is probably one of my least favorite flavors. I haven’t tried them all, but Trilogy and grape are way up there for me while the rest are kind of… meh. Butttt I’d gladly take all of your other eats, especially breakfast πŸ˜€ I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the combination of oatmeal, banana, nut butter, and chocolate… that one will forever be a winner. And when it comes to cupcakes, there are no real losers, either. I’m a sucker for anything chocolate, but the idea of coconut definitely peaks my interest as well.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh, if I could ONLY get my hands on that grape flavor! I just heard of it for the first time last week and have been “on the prowl” for it ever since

“And when it comes to cupcakes, there are no real losers, either.” <-Soooo true!!

  18. You need to stop it. Now. Not only do you have spectacular photography, cooking and decorating skills, but we’re much too alike in our food tastes (maybe we’re alike more- don’t know till we meet each other!). For a minute I thought I was grazing at my meals, as you and I come up with very similar combinations food wise.
…AND for a second I thought your snack was your lunch. I was relieved to see it wasn’t, as that’s no hugh jass salad to me. Can’t leave me hanging girl, now can you? πŸ™‚
Get better soon, btw! πŸ™‚ xx

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Yeah, that salad would have to be like quadruple the size to keep my ravenous belly satisfied! Haha!

And you’re totally making me blush with your super sweet comments! Love ya girlie!

  19. Bella says:

    Hey Heather,

Your food looks yummy, especially breakfast, WOW, lunch, never would have thought and dinner, did you really eat RAW okra? PB I love, jelly, I love, eggs I love, but can’t say I ever had that combo before, he he.

Following your tweets girl, so glad I found you.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yep yep! I’m not sure what made me try it one day…probably sheer laziness on my part, but I LOVE raw okra! My favorite way of eating it is dipped in roasted pine nut hummus! Mmm!

And yeah, I know my dinner combo may look a little whack, but it’s definitely one of those “don’t knock it till you try it” things! πŸ˜‰

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, Bella! I will definitely look into your link parties! Hope you are having a great week!

  20. OH MY GOD. THANK YOU. eggs + bbq sauce is amazing, right? why does everyone give me weird looks and change the subject whenever i mention how amazing this combo is? i am so glad to feel some validation here. thank you.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Happy to help! I laaaaa-huv eggs and have yet to find something they DON’T go well with! Sweet with pumpkin & almond butter…savory with cheese and salsa…and I LOVE them with BBQ seasoning! McCormick’s BBQ seasoning is the best…a little sweet to go along with the salty spiciness! If you haven’t tried it before, I definitely recommend it! πŸ™‚

  21. OH MY GOSH…I’m in love with F.R.O.G! Absolutely amazing! The flavor is definitely “slap yo mamma” good! Looks like a tasty day Heather!

  22. I need to make that watermelon, cucumber and feta salad! Oh my deliciousness. And Cupcake wine? Yes please. However I’m not sure it would taste so great if it was peanut butter banana wine, which happens to be my favorite REAL cupcake flavor. πŸ™‚

  23. Pumpkin cupcakes are my favorite! Although, I’ll pretty much eat any kind of cupcake πŸ™‚

I’m eating my gummies right now too! I blame you for getting me addicted to candy vitamins, haha!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Well, I’m sure there are worse things I could be responsible for! πŸ˜‰

      Pumpkin cupcakes??…You??…Really?? Lol

  24. Lauren says:

My mom makes a watermelon, cumber, feta salad and its amazing, looks like yours! YUM πŸ˜€ Haven’t seen F.R.O.G but it sounds really good!

  25. oh my I thought you had my heart at those oats and chocolate but then I scroll down and you went and pulled out that sammich!! I need that like nooooaw! yum!
I think carrot cake is actually one of my all time fave cupcake flavahs.
    xxx

  26. That watermelon, feta and cuke salad sounds SO refreshing!!! YUM!

I don’t think I would like okra raw though… We just cooked all of our okra tonight, otherwise I would go take a bite and give it a try! Maybe next time I will try it before I cook it!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Definitely give it a try! The texture is great and it tastes just the way it does when it’s fried (of course without the batter! Haha!)

  27. Rach says:

Girl, this all look so yummy! Totally diggin’ the gummies!

  28. Lindsay says:

you DO have the craziest flavor combos but they are always so intriguing that I’m dying to try them. ha! Chocolate cupcakes are hands-down my fav! Although I might pick a glass of cupcake wine over the real thing most days πŸ˜‰

  29. emma green says:

cupcake wine!! that’s fab!! πŸ™‚ I love lemon cupcakes πŸ™‚

  30. Did you know that okra is called “ladies fingers” in the UK? I just found that out and I’m excited to learn more names when I go abroad! I can’t get enough of your entries. they just make me so happy with your witty banter and delicious looking photographs.
crazy flavour combos are good though. I just mixed hummus with rice and curry sauce for a delicious spread. I’m currently in love with it and it’s good on pretty much everything. Hummus plus nut butter also is love. pretty much nut butter I will eat with anything. for serious.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I love that you said, “for serious”! I used to say that all the time! Haha! Oh yeah, nut butter goes well with just about ANYTHING…or sometimes, nothing at all! I’m a big advocate of nut butter on a spoon, ya know! πŸ˜‰

It’s funny that you mention the hummus and curry combo…Emilia and I just made a coconut curry hummus the other day. I wasn’t really paying attention to the measurements, so once I get home, I plan to recreate it and post it on the blog. It was delicious!

Lady’s fingers, huh? Wonder who’s witchy looking hands that name came from? Lol Very cool though…you’re going to learn SO much with your study abroad! And I will be more than happy to live vicariously through you for your entire trip! πŸ˜‰
