Thursday Things

Hey boos!

So there’s some things…

that I want to share…

on a Thursday…

hence the title πŸ˜‰

Thing 1: Hello National Food Holidays!!

This has been MY week! First there’s National Pancake DayΒ and now…

Happy National Coffee Day!!

I hope you all had a nice date with Joe at some point during the day…man, that guy really gets around…

Thing 2A: Healthified Banana Bread

Last week, I bought a crap-ton of bananas…like seriously, at 50 cents a bunch how the heck was I going to turn away from a cart overflowing with cheap banana goodness?

I bought 5 bunches…

to the tune of oh, about 10 pounds.

You only think I’m kidding.

So obviously banana bread HAD to make an appearance eventually…as in last night.

I feel in love with Kelsey’s banana bread recipe as soon as I saw the post on it last week and just knew I had to try it. Low in sugar and oil, but chocked full of healthy fats and fiber, it turned out to be one of the best banana breads I’ve ever tasted!

Thing 2B: Banana Bread for Breakfast

Nothing like a slice (or two) of warm dense banana bread for breakfast!

Which brings me to the next thing…

Thing 3A: Breakfast Condimentation

In a blind taste study (read: Heather BEFORE her morning date with Joe), Biscoff wins hands down!

I love the flavor of the pumpkin cream cheese (although I was a little disappointed in the whipped consistency…unlike TJ’s peanut butter cream cheese), but um, seriously, how could the thought of crumbled up cookies on top of banana bread not instantly make you drool?

Thing 3B: Making up words like “condimentation” πŸ˜‰

Thing 4: Photogenic Fruit

So I found a dragon fruit at Whole Foods over the weekend and totally forgot to tell you guys…

Then, this morning I realized how much fun it is to take pictures of it and maaaaaaybe was a little late to work because of it. πŸ˜‰

Isn’t it gorgeous?

And it looks like what would happen if kiwi and chia seeds made a fruit baby!

Unfortunately it didn’t really have much of a taste (maybe I got a dud?)

But at least I got some awesome shots. πŸ™‚

Thing 5: Banana Bread Hummus

I told you I had a lot of bananas!

I have Nicky to thank for this stroke of genius…it’s been a while since I’ve had dessert hummus and this was just what I needed to remind me why I love it so much!

I ended up adding an extra banana (because obviously I had plenty) and a bit more cinnamon (because obviously I am an addict) and it turned out great!

Especially on graham crackers!

Mmm!

Thing 6: Tropical Traditions Coconut Peanut Butter

Full review to come!

Thing 7: Asics Compression socks

Since I bought these on Sunday, I’ve been wearing them every other night from the time I come home till the time I go to bed. I love the “hug” and I’m hoping that after a bit more rest, I can finally get back to running shin pain free!

*fingers crossed*

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’m going to end my day much like how I started it…I KNEW that Biscoff was gonna get me in trouble!

What are a few of your “Thursday things”?

Did you celebrate National Coffee Day today?

  6. PB&Jenny says:

Heather, I love you .. I really really do. You’re so adventurous and uninhibited when it comes to food. You find comfort in eating healthy nourishing foods rather than analyzing your food preferences so much. I feel like I’m so consumed with calories because *god forbid* I have some healthified banana bread without knowing the exact calorie count. How do you do it?! Can I be youuuuu?

woo, would you like some honesty with your coffee this morning? Sorry for the random vent session, I just really admire you tremendously! Love you!!!

  7. Nicky says:

Awww yaaay glad you liked the hummus!! πŸ™‚ I’m addicted to chickpeas and bananas so it seemed a good combo! I have a lot of bananas too at the moment so you’ve reminded me of that recipe but also banana bread is sounding pretty good too right now..or muffins..because I just love muffins πŸ™‚
And oh my god. Don’t get me started on Biscoff spread. Over here it’s called Speculoos spread but I swear it’s like a drug..I just can’t stop dipping my finger in it!!
That coconut PB sounds amazing – so jealous, we don’t have anything exciting over here in terms of PB except the PB&Co Dark Choc Dreams πŸ™

    • kissmybroccoli says:

  8. i celebrate coffee day every day πŸ™‚ and i am the same way with bananas on sale! just peel throw them in the freezer. i get so excited when they are just ripe and i buy so many for under a dollar. reduced price rack is where its at!

  9. Best thing from my thursday = national coffee day! Also, you just gave me some great ideas for what to do with my browning bananas πŸ™‚

  10. I didn’t have coffee because I’ve cut it out for the past week to see if it is the cause of my trouble with sleeping. But I think I’ve determined that it’s NOT the cause, so I’m so excited to bring it back into my life. I’ve missed it!

Also banana bread hummus may just be the coolest idea ever! I’ve always been scared to try dessert hummus, but I think you’ve convinced me. πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Whew! So glad it’s not the coffee! πŸ˜‰ I joke all the time that coffee is my “life force” but I really would miss having it every morning because I just love the taste…plus it’s nice to sit peacefully and enjoy a cup (or two) before having to face the day’s craziness!

Dessert hummus…try it! You’ll never look back, promise!

  11. Sami says:

can you pleaseeeeeeeeee send me some of that banana bread hummus? or the coconut peanut butter? πŸ˜‰

GAH! Why do I always miss all of these food holidays! Is there like a list somewhere online? Haha I need to pre-markup my calendar. That banana hummus looks so good. I just bought an overload of bananas, so I’m going to have to attempt to make it.

  14. Lizzie says:

banana bread hummus sounds amazeballs!! and that dragon fruit is gorg!

  15. Lindsay says:

ohhh dragon fruit! I’ve been wanting to try that ever since I saw it on an episode of Chopped on the Food Network the other day. Looks like a weird kiwi! Not much taste huh? hmm.. maybe it takes awhile to ripen?

I swear you are so creative with your recipes woman! banana hummus!? wowzas!
