California Friday #3: San Francisco

Happy Friday friends!

Can you believe tomorrow is October 1st? Already?

Time sure does fly…when the weather is nice.

I figured I’d get back to recapping my Cali trip before it’s Christmas…

So picking up from where I left off two weeks ago, the day after my toes hit the Pacific Ocean, I went on a little adventure!

Now I know I alluded to my travels to San Fran in my What I Ate Wednesday post, but there are still a ton of photos that I want to share with you guys, so here goes:

So, you really wanna see San Fran, huh?

Ok, all you have to do is get a ride to the bus station, ride a bus to the train station, take the train to San Francisco, and then hop another bus to get to the coast.

Easy enough, right?

Oh yeah, sure, I got this!

Yeah, totally!

So I got that ride, hopped on that bus, and bought my very first train ticket…

And then I missed my train…

Haha, just joking! 😉

When my train finally departed San Jose, I pulled out my book (“Love the One Your With” by Emily Giffin…the same author who wrote Something Borrowed which is now a movie that I’m dying to see) and settled in for my hour long ride.

Then I got off at the San Francisco stop and took a pic of this awesome mural.

Except this wasn’t San Francisco…it was the SOUTH San Francisco!

Yep, I got off at the wrong stop…

I wish I was kidding!

So then I waited…and I waited…and I called my mom and cried (after which I felt much better! Thanks Mama!)

And 40 minutes later, I was BACK on the train! And 30 minutes or so after that, I was in San Fran…for real this time! 😉

Fast forward a bit through a bumpy ride on a bus where I found out how it feels to be a sardine, and I found myself looking at this:

Insert a long breath of relief and awe!

I walked through the Fisherman’s wharf just soaking up the sun and enjoying the view!

And of course snapping a few pics:

A tug boat named Hercules…LOVE it!

And what’s that off to the far right?

In my best Sean Connery voice: “Ladies and gentleman, The Rock!” 😉

After moseying around for a little longer, I decided to jump on one of the open air sightseeing buses…

$27.99 for a complete tour of San Fran and Sausalito? Don’t mind if I do!

Actually, I would’ve paid that much just for the entertainment from the bus driver…

absolutely HILARIOUS!

On with the tour!

So wish I would’ve had the chance to visit the Ghirardelli factory! According to the tour guide, they give free samples at all of the four entrances…and they’re not very smart if you know what I mean…

Free sample one! Free sample two!…

And then…we finally got to the Golden Gate!

Love all the angles of these…and actually surprised they all came out so well given that I was riding in an OPEN air bus with winds at like 92836 mph! 😉

After we crossed over (the bridge, not the afterlife), we were able to hop off the bus for a few minutes and check out the view:

Winnnnnnnnnnndy!!

Afterward, it was a nice drive back to the Fisherman’s Wharf where I hit up a few souvenir shops and then had the best dinner of my life…but we’ve already talked about that! 😉

Unfortunately, due to travel time, I didn’t get to see much else in San Fran…I can’t wait to go back someday in the future and devote more time to this beautiful city!

How are you with public transit? Are you a country bumpkin like me who’s totally inexperienced? 😉

What’s the craziest souvenir anyone has ever bought you?

Was it more awesome than this?! Bahahaha!

I have been dying to go to San Fran ever since I was youngin! at that time I wanted to go because I was addicted to Full House and thought I could meet the Tanner family, but now I just want to go because it looks like such a fun city! Plus I’ve never been on the west coast before. Awful, right?

p.s. that picture of you in front of the bridge should be on a travel brochure. Just saying!

    Love you!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thanks girlie! Full House? Uh yeah, TOTALLY addicted when I was younger! I couldn’t help but think of the theme song as I was walking around San Fran too! This was my first time seeing the west coast before too…before that, the furthest west I’d been was Texas!

  3. Lizzie says:

  4. Ah! I want to go to San Fran so badly! Your pictures are incredible! Looks like you are having fun. And yes, that tee-shirt is definitely awesome.

I once took the wrong bus home from school and panicked as I watched it pass the stop I wanted to get off at and silently freaked out as it stopped at none of the other stops I thought it would. I ended up in Denver and called my mom and cried. Good times, good times. Glad we both made it safely to our destinations. Eventually, anyways.
Is San Francisco always in a cloud?? It was like that when I went too!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

During the summer it is…at least that’s what the tour bus driver said. I think it has something to do with the warm air and the ocean and stuff…yeah, I’m totally no meteorologist obviously! Haha!

PS, silently freaking out is what I do best! 🙂

  6. Shannon says:

    Have a great time 🙂

  7. I want to go to San Fran so badly! Tony is the one that guides us through public transit. I’m not really a country bumpkin, but I get lost in the mall! I love that last shot of you! Beautiful!

  8. I went to San Fran for Foodbuzz last year (OH how I wish I could go this year too!!). It was such an amazing/whirlwind trip and I didn’t really have time to see as much of the city as I wanted to. But I did cram in a lot in 48 hrs and would LOVE to go back someday!!

    LOVE THAT SHIRT!!! Ha ha!

When I went to San Francisco I stayed with a friend in Oakland so we would take the Bart over and then we took cable cars. That was easy. I have also rode the New York subways on my own and only got on the wrong one once. It was an express so it went past my stop LOL. I rode the T in Boston woth my best friend and she knew it so it was fine(I probably would have gotten lost). I have also rode the bus in California to the beach and into downtown LA.. THAT was an experience, let me tell you LOL. I live in a small town now and the only bus lines are the school buses.

No one has ever bought me a crazy souvenir, but I bought someone a gatorhead 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

A gatorhead? Like taxidermy style?! Haha! Nice!

My town here is pretty small too. We do have a city bus system, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than 5 people on it at any given time. And actually, I don’t even know if we have a legit train station…just a bunch of small posts scattered throughout the city with a little picture of a bus on them!

  10. Lizzi says:

Ahhh hello! Firstly thanks so much for visiting my blog! 🙂 SECOND – i am in love with yours and can’t beliebe – beliebe? i seem to be be inventing German words meaning “BELIEVING IN LOVE” or something….erm.. moving along – BELIEVE I haven’t discovered it before now! You are the cutest little thing in the universe!! I am DESPERATE to visit San Fran….when I one day do my monumental roadtrip across the US…. hahahah keep on dreamin’ Lizzi, keep on dreamin’….. 😉

  11. Brittany says:

I am practically crying at these pictures because I am DYING to visit San Fran and haven’t yet! Looks gorgeous!!

  12. Claudia says:

OMG I read “Love the One You’re With” last summer when I went to FL and I loveddddd it! Have fun in Cali!

  13. I once had a terrible train experience too! I accidentally took the train going in opposite direction to where I wanted to go, so what was supposed to be a 1.5 hour trip turned into a 10 hour day of travelling. I called my mom and cried too LOL!

But at least you finally made it to San Fran. It looks beautiful! I really hope to visit there someday.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh no! How awful! I can only imagine how mentally/physically drained you were by the end of that! What is it about a mother’s voice that seems to calm us down in times of miserable frustration? I swear it sounded like she would have transported herself all the way from Tennessee just to be by my side if she could have!

  14. Eden says:

I simply must compliment you for not taking obnoxious pictures of yourself like most bloggers do. This is why my reader isn’t as cluttered these days.

Anyhow, I love SF. Such a food-loving town.

  15. Cameo says:

Lovely photos! What a gorgeous day to visit.

  16. Hannah says:

I miss San Francisco! I want to go back and do it properly… looking forward to seeing more through your eyes 🙂
