You Might Be a Food Blogger If…

1. Your plans for whipping up a new recipe and posting it before the weekend are shot the moment you look outside and see this…

Overcast?! But how am I supposed to take pictures???

2. You have a notebook that you carry in your purse at all times SOLEY to jot down notes about future posts/recipes/ideas…

And obviously, you have to label said notebook in case your alzheimer’s
decides to kick in.

3. You can spot blog “paraphernalia” in different corners of your home…

You like? I made ’em myself…with a little help from this gal! πŸ˜€

4. Your camera has smudges of food particles on it 95% of the time…

I checked…it was chocolate!

#noshame

5. You have a folder in your photo library simply labeled “food porn”…

ForΒ VERY good reason I might add… πŸ˜‰

Are you drooling yet??

6. You have photo “stations” set up around the house in front of the best lit windows…

Always gotta have that light bounce!

7. Your table linens selection rivals that of your wardrobe…

Hey, if I ever stop blogging, I could piece together a bangin’ skirt! πŸ˜‰

8. You have cabinets in your kitchen that are full of “blog dishes” only…

And maybe you’re a little too infatuated with miniature eating utensils…

Which only echoes the fact that you have a shopping addiction.

9. You prepare dinner 4 hours in advance JUST so you can get a decent, well- lit picture…

Bonus: And then after patting out beet burger patties the night before, resulting in your hands looking something like this…

You go and make something like these…

Recipe coming as soon as I can get some decent lighting!

Damn you, overcast!

Finish this sentence: You might be a _______ if ________.

  1. I have Greek yogurt permanently etched into the crevices of my camera!
You might be a food photographer if you hold off people from eating their meals because it looks pretty! I drive people crazy when I do that!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! So glad I’m not alone on the camera thing! I swear if I ever had to take it to a shop to have it looked at, they’d think the worst of me!

And omg, yes! BB’s won’t even touch his food now until I either take a picture or give him “the nod” πŸ˜‰

  2. amy says:

oh man i cant wait to see that recipe!! your beet hands crack me up haha (i need to pick our beets tomorrow..woo hoo!)

  3. Emily says:

I cannot WAIT for that recipe. Oh my goodness…
I giggled throughout this entire post. You’re so adorable. I love that you have an album labeled “food porn” and that you carry a journal around 24/7- I do the same thing! (And it’s most definitely labeled…I label everything)

    (:

  4. Oh my goodness, that is a lot of table linens – I love it.

You might be a food blogger if – you dash out of the shower and into the living room dripping wet/naked to jot down the really awesome recipe/post idea you just got.
Yea, that’s happens. πŸ™‚ Good thing I live in a basement where there are no windows, haha.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! Totally loving the mental picture I’m getting of this! Just be careful…no recipe/post is worth a broken hip! πŸ˜‰

  5. Cannot wait for the recipe! They look delicious!!

  6. Haha! Oh girl, you nailed it! I’m guilty of pretty much all of these things. Well, except for maybe the table linens… my selection is sadly lacking πŸ™ I was actually just thinking that I need to upgrade it before I get back into blogging. I see all these nice colorful backgrounds in everyone’s photos and think to myself “yeah, my placemats are all cream or brown”… -snooze-

Oh and speaking of brown, I kind of want to ask how you know those brown stains on your camera were chocolate, buuuuuuut I think I’ll refrain for the time being πŸ˜‰ Hope you’re having an awesome start to your weekend!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, when I first started blogging, all my linens were brown, white, or black…soooooo boring! I don’t know why it took me so long to wake up to the world of color! Lol

And yeah…I um, paid the neighbor kid to lick my camera! πŸ˜‰

  7. haha love this! i have a bakers rack full of all my dishes and blogging stuff and a photo station on my dining room table πŸ™‚

  8. I’m so glad I’m not the only one obsessed with mini utensils!!!! hahaha

I answered yes to every one of these! πŸ™‚

  9. Food station amazing!!! Love your dishes! I am currently obsessed with little Japanese rice bowls super cute, small and perfect for taking pics! You might be a blogger if you carry a camera around with you and take pictures of every little thing that happens πŸ™‚ Love and Shine, CourtStar

  10. Haha this was a fun read! You know you’re a food blogger when fellow diners have stopped questioning your incessant needs to photograph meals at restaurants!

  11. Love this! I definitely need a blogging book. That would help me relax more I think…instead of rushing everytime to the computer to make sure I don’t forget something. As for the lighting stations / setups…it’s made a bit more complicated when you have a toddler running around the house. I can’t leave anything out / setup…so it’s always a fun “rebuild the food photography” project each time I need to take pictures. πŸ™‚ I laughed LOUD when I saw the part about the food on the camera. I was just scolded (I mean, lovingly questioned) about this very thing just yesterday. I think there was tomato goo on the bottom. ha!

  12. You are adorable and I love this! πŸ™‚
And I have the notebook in my purse too…plus another “note” on my phone…

  13. It looks like you’ve been badly “beaten.”. I had no idea about these mini utensils, but I need to get on it. A reason to shop kitchen supplies…..ah, I love it.

  14. These are so funny! I done ever care about overcast. I need to care more about photography! I always think your photography is perfect!! Can’t wait for that recipe!

  15. Kendra says:

Wow, those pancakes look amazing! I am now in dire need of the recipe–perhaps you could try doing a “sun dance;” after all, there IS a rain dance–not that it is very effective or anything:) And I think your beet-stained hands are a beautiful color; someone should create a “beet-red” wedding dress in that exact hue–that might make some beet-obsessed brideVERY happy:D I hope you are having a fabulous weekend so far!!

  16. So glad I’m not alone in all my craziness. My camera/iPhone/Apple/work computer are all covered in food. And the light issue, yeah… it was caused near mental breakdowns with I take too long to make something and I love my daylight.

    Pass me a pancake, please.

  17. Nidia says:

omg i want to make that sweet potato but when i tried the yogurt isnt is thinned out nor the syrup on top, how do i make it pretty nomtastic like yours πŸ™

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Aww, it’s not so hard darlin’! I used Chobani yogurt…it probably just looks thin because of the heat from the warm sweet potato. And the “syrup” is just a tablespoon of peanut butter thinned/whisked with water (you have to add a little water at a time to get it to just the right consistency). Then I top it with a little granola and cocoa powder! πŸ˜€

  18. Kammie says:

Omg I am so drooling right now! I find that I like shooting when it’s overcast, it’s easier to work with, less harsh shadows, etc. try it! Just make sure you’re really close to a window.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ugh, I think things would be so much easier if I could just pic my house up and shift it about 15 degrees…the front and back corners of the house point to east and west…so I NEVER have enough sunlight coming through my windows! πŸ™

  19. Elle says:

Wow! You nailed it! Fun read and it really hit its mark with me.

  20. Lauren says:

HAHAHA! Holy crap this is good! I’ve actually taken some of my best pictures on an overcast day. That way there is no harsh lighting. Love this post so much! I wish I could pin this whole thing to a board entitled ‘life as I know it’.

  23. Jessie says:

haha love this post! You might be a food blogger if you don’t care whether or not people stare at you while taking pictures of your meals @ restaurants πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

SO COMPLETELY TRUE!! It took me a while to get over that…I used to try to be so sneaky, now I don’t care at all! The only thing that bothers me is taking pictures on the patio. I don’t have a fence and like 50% of the neighborhood can see my backyard! I always feel like I’m on stage or something and people are at their windows gawking at me…”Oh George, would you look at this…there’s that girl again taking pictures of her breakfast in her pajamas again!” Bahahaha!

  24. Hahaha I have food on my camera too! And I hate it when it’s dark and rainy, but I want to make a new recipe! It totally spoils my day. πŸ˜›

You might be a healthy living blogger if at a conference the first thing you ask people after introducing yourself is “What is your blog?” Haha!

  25. Allie says:

Haha, my camera/iphone are consistently covered in food. I need to work on building a linens/dishes collection. And building one of those fancy light-bounce thingies…

  26. You might be a food blogger (or HLB) if you are constantly picking chia seeds out of your teeth hours after you’ve eaten them.
    Love this- and you!

  27. Jessie says:

hahaha you’re too funny!! How do you think I feel being surround by kuwaitis? They must think Americans are nuts!! haha
