What I FORGOT I Ate Wednesday

Hey guys!

And happy “Show Us Your Food” day…otherwise known as everyone’s favorite foodie linkup…otherwise known assssssssss…

WIAW Teal

Haha, I said ass!Β

It’s no secret, I take a LOT of pictures of my food. Honestly, whenever the man-friend and I are out and I DON’T take a picture, he looks over at me, cocks his head to the side, and then slowly…slooooowly takes a bite. Hey, I do what I can to keep up the excitement in our relationship! πŸ˜‰

So, while I’m in Florida this week, relaxing on the beach in one of my schmexy new swimsuits, getting my fill of fresh seafood, and doing my best to keep the man-friend on his toes, allow me to share with you some eats from a few new-to-me restaurants I’ve visited lately that I maybe kinda sorta forgot to tell you guys about #bloggerfail…

First up: The Wild Hare

A quaint little restaurant serving up an eclectic menu fit for meat-eaters and lettuce-lovers alike. They serve anything from wood-fired pizzas to deviled eggs to spicy greens and use only fresh and LOCAL ingredients!

The Wild Hare Fried Green TomatoesWe started out with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes and since it was late and they only had a few slices left, we got them for FREE!

I think Sarah would agree, #freefoodjusttastesbetter πŸ˜‰

For our entrees, I ordered the Quinoa and Fried Avocado Tacos…

The Wild Hare Avocado Tacos

Along with a drink that was a mix of red wine and some kind of juice…kinda like a sangria only not as good! Haha! While I didn’t really love my drink, I thought the tacos were AMAZING! The fried avocado warm and silky smooth with a little bit crunch thanks to breading and the mole sauce they served with it was incredible!

The man-friend went with the Wild Hare Burger with HOUSE-MADE PICKLES and fries…

The Wild Hare Burger & Fries

And a drink that was MUCH better than mine…gingery-orangey goodness! I may or may not have drank half of it for him. πŸ˜‰ The pickles were a thing of perfection as were the fries…crispy with some great seasoning sprinkled on top!

I was totally stuffed after my tacos, half the man-friend’s drink, and a handful of ninja’d fries (WHY does he put up with me?!), but when we spotted PEANUT BUTTER PIEΒ on the menu, neither of us could resist…

The Wild Hare Peanut Butter Pie#sexonaplate

Like seriously, lip-smacking, fork-licking, When Harry Met Sally deli scene good!

Next: Sushi Train
AΒ totally new concept for me: You are seated at a table next to a conveyor belt…on the belt rides different colored plates of sushi, sashimi, mixed salads, and desserts (each color represents a certain price)…if you see something you like, you just pluck it up off the belt and go to town!

Sushi TrainAnd I was kinda lovin’ the futuristic-ish decor! #beammeupscottie πŸ˜‰

I had a SERIOUS craving, so we ordered some summer rolls to get started…

Sushi Train Summer Rolls

Only they didn’t come out until after we’d already started sushi-picking so they ended up going home with me instead (lettuce, mango, crabstick, and basil…and that sauce was
SO good!)

As for our plates…

Sushi Train PlatesCrab salad x 2 (oh yeah, that’s not a duplicated photo…it was THAT good!), eel roll, black pepper tuna roll, fried “mystery roll”, tuna nigiri, salmon & avocado roll, tuna & asparagus roll with masago, and an apple radish salad

Wow, I can’t believe I remember all of that! 😯

And then of course, no sushi meal is complete without the reading of the fortune cookies!

And Lastly: Sam & Zoe’s
A quaint little coffee and sandwich shop that’s like seriously in the man-friend’s backyard. We’ve talked about going there before and well, any place that has a PB, honey and granola wrap on their menu, definitely piques my interest! Oh and get this, it’s on HEATHER PLACE…how cool is that?! #easilyamused

But the man-friend was not my dining companion on this day…

Allie

This gorgeous lady was! #gunshow πŸ˜‰

After gabbing for nearly 30 minutes, catching each other up on recent happenings, Allie and I FINALLY made our way up to the counter to order some grub! Although we were meeting for lunch, it was a gloomy and rainy day outside and both ofΒ us were needing comfort food.

Enter breakfast!Β

After spotting the Breakfast Burger on the menu, I knew it had to be mine and it did NOT disappoint!

Sam & Zoe's Breakfast Burger

Veggie Sausage, spicy mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheddar AND swiss!

Omg, #getinmymouth! Hands down, the best non-meat to ever cross my lips #thatsNOTwhatshesaid and the soft seedy bread was sweet carby perfection! And that is what I ‘wiched on a Saturday! πŸ˜‰

Allie went with a trusty favorite…

Sam & Zoe's OatmealMade-to-order (and SERIOUSLY THICK) oats with cinnamon, raisins, and peanut butter on the side.Β

Of all the places I’ve ever eaten breakfast, I’ve never thought to order oatmeal, since I Β figure I could just as easily make it at home, but I think I’ll have to go back for some of this!

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten from a restaurant lately?

Anyone else, besides Carly and me, constantly think in #hashtags? πŸ˜‰

I think I’d be completely content if Quinoa and Fried Avocado Tacos were the only food I could eat for the rest of my life. #iwantitNOW

  2. Oh my word. All of that food! Ok I’m starving right now; I totally wouldn’t be able to resist that peanut butter pie it looks like heaven! I so wouldn’t be able to choose between the breakfast burger/oats with pb – they both look incredible!
The best thing I’ve eaten out at a restaurant was something I had on Sunday – halibut with seared scallops, spiced mayo, an assortment of giant cous cous + seeds, olives + oven roasted tomatoes. Heaven.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Don’t you know you shouldn’t read blogs (especially on a Wednesday) when you’re HUNGRY?! Seriously, I can’t WAIT to go back and try those oats! Omg, halibut AND scallops in the same dish?! Those are two of my favorite seafood dishes!! And now you have ME drooling over food I can’t even see!! Lol

  3. OMG your eats look so good!!! And Alex does the same thing if I don’t take a picture. I think he gets worried that I don’t like my food or something if I don’t instagram it. Haha πŸ˜‰

  4. That peanut butter pie. OMG!!

You’ve also made me want to go to a sushi train restaurant. It has been TOO long since I have been to one.

  5. Haha. I love the idea of this post. Glad for the update picture on Allie since she stopped blogging!!

Well, how could you forgot all of this amazing food? For shame πŸ˜‰

That oatmeal looks incredibly thick. I think it would pass the upside down w/ spoon test. Epic.

  7. Best thing from a restaurant lately… hmm… I feel like I’m usually let down at restaurants. Isn’t that odd? I think my bbq chicken pizza from Mellow Mushroom definitely takes the cake. Your burger n’ fries looks fabulous!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ugh, I hate being let down at restaurants, but pretty sure Mellow Mushroom can do no wrong! Their Magical Mystery Tour pizza is AMAZING!

  8. Everything looks so good!! Especially that peanut butter pie, mmmmm

  9. Woah, I’ve been drooling over your foodies on instagram, but everything lumped together makes me HANGRY.

I’ve never thought about ordering oats anywhere either, although those look super tasty and makes me think I should sometime.

Oh nos, I think in hastags too – usually dirty ones πŸ˜‰

  10. #ILoveHashtags #AndIWantToBeYourPermanentDiningCompanion

  11. I cannot get past that PB pie!!!

Best restaurant meal lately was scallops with short rib and blackberries in a browned butter sauce. I died. Cheat meal = win.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, you had me at scallops!! And seriously, BEST peanut butter pie I’ve ever tasted! Just wish we’d ordered it FIRST! Lol

  12. Eric has learned that when we go out to eat, he’s not allowed to touch the food until I’ve whipped out the camera. I’ve taught him well πŸ˜‰
And ohmygod, all the sushi. Want. Like immediately.

  13. Fran@BCDC says:

I love to order oatmeal out! It’s always somehow better than mine…maybe I need lessons! The breakfast sandwich looks incredible! Love seeing Allieface…miss her. Glad you enjoyed your vacations. Have a great day, Heather!

  14. Becca says:

oh my LANTA that breakfast burger looks AMAZING. cue my stomach growling!

And speaking of stomach growling… if you’re ever in Chicago head to Scout’s.. and order the pulled pork nachos. Might be the best nachos I’ve ever had. #handsdown

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, thank you!!! I had some pulled pork nachos while the man-friend and I were in Memphis last month and was sooooooo disappointed in them! The pork was at room temp and the cheese didn’t even melt…wtf?! Chicago…Scout’s…I’m so there!! πŸ˜‰

      • Becca says:

I am so terribly sorry, nachos done poorly is just plain wrong. Non melty cheese?! Wrong. If you ever swing by Chitown, give me a call and I will take you to these-world-view-altering nachos for suuuure!

  15. I’ve never been to a sushi place like that either, but it’s such a cool concept! It’s a good way to get to try lots of new things. Everything else you’ve eaten looks amazing too!

The best thing I’ve had from a restaurant recently was a BBQ pulled tofu sandwich with avocado and melted Daiya cheese on it. It was seriously SO good – I actually liked it just as much as a real pulled pork sandwich!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

It definitely was a cool experience, but I wouldn’t recommend going in overly hungry…otherwise you do what we do and grab a million plates in the beginning before you get a chance to see everything rolling around on the belt! Right before we got our check, I was eyeing a couple others but was WAY to full to even think about it! Hahaha!

Ohhh, I’ve never had BBQ pulled tofu! Sounds fantastic with the avocado and cheese! I’ll have to see about making something like that soon! Especially since I seem to be on another sandwich kick right now!

  16. I was all into the Wild Hare and its local fare, until I saw my girl Allie. I’m glad you got to have breakfast with her. Enjy the rest of your vacation.

  17. Haha you made me laugh with this one, sounds soooo familiar πŸ˜‰ The sushi looks delish! I need to get me some sushi soon… haven’t had it in a while πŸ™‚

  18. I WANT that breakfast burger right now!! I need to recreate that at home.

  19. Those oats have me drooling! YUM. I really love super-thick oats.

  20. The best thing that I have eaten from a restaurant lately was a Meaty Portobella Mushroom Burger from a place called 500 Degrees in Center City, Philadelphia! Ugh, you have me drooling over the sole thought of it. Anyway, that breakfast sandwich looks divine! The oatmeal does too. I’m glad to see that you are surrounded by such great people. Have a great week, Heather!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Mmmm, I love me a good mushroomy burger! Question is…was it a burger made with mushrooms or did they just slap a portobella cap on a bun and call it done? Oh look, I made rhyme! #easilyamused πŸ˜‰

  21. Gosh I need to come visit you so we can go out to eat! Everything looks delicious! Housemade pickles are the best right!?! I know I’ve had fried green tomatoes but it’s been years and I think I need to revisit them soon!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

It had been forever for me too! I forgot how much I liked them! I could seriously go back in time and kick my younger self for turning my nose up at them every summer when my mom would fry up fresh ones straight from the garden…what WAS I thinking! And oh my gosh, I REALLY need to learn how to make my own pickles! Gahhh, SO GOOD!

  22. Lindsay says:

    I could hashtag this whole post. #YUM #jealous #WANT #FEEDME #freakingloveseafood

  23. I could seriously eat every single thing you photographed. Everything looks so good. The last good thing I eally enjoyed eating was two different types of burritos: one a bean, cheese, rice which reminded me of the burritos Mrs. Flores would cook in high school and the other was a Indian style tikka masla wrapped in naan burrito. #yum.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh WOW! That Indian burrito sounds ahhhhh-mazing! Naan is seriously like the best thing ever…right next to injera…and pitas…and French baguettes…and yeah, pretty much any carby goodness from other lands! πŸ˜‰ #breadlover

  24. OMG, that peanut butter pie… I die, I die. Yum!!!
Looks like a delicious vacation! πŸ™‚
