Don’t answer that!

Anyone else finally giving up the summer berries for warm fall flavors?
As deep as myΒ seasonal denial was, it just doesn’t feel right now that it’s the month of Β the pumpkin –colored food bloggers! πŸ˜‰

HAHA I love this post- great tribute, I must say :)! India seems to be working oppositely to the rest of the world- it has started to get super hot and within the next months, strawberries and peaches will be making an appearance- YAY! I got your back girl – I will be sure to eat enough on your behalf too ;)!

  2. The funny or maybe not so funny for you thing is that we are just getting more berries in season now. But what I am most excited about are MANGOES!!! OMG I could eat A LOT of them in one sitting, but learnt my lesson when I was 7 as to why eating 5 mangoes in a row is not a great idea.

We unfortunately can’t get canned pumpkin here or Pumpkin pie spice or pumpkin spiced lattes…shed a tear for us Aussies πŸ˜‰

  3. I’m sad berries are going out of season but I am looking forward to soups, stews, and comfort food! haha πŸ™‚

  4. You are amazing. I think my next rhyming post (whenever that is…) will be dedicated to you. Good thing you can still buy berries frozen or I think you would have major withdraw.

Pumpkin it up!! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. πŸ™‚

  5. Admittedly, I’ve been two-timing summer and fall these past weeks [or months?]. Anxiously asking the vendor at the Farmers’ Market how much longer he thought I’d be able to get blueberries at his stall. Fingers crossed he’ll keep his word and still have a pint of the sweetest best berries ever for me this week!
Why did you have to post this, though? Now I won’t just miss the little blue ones as a snack by the handful but regret not putting them to more creative uses before. Oh hey, you know, I’ll just have to wait a scant year until I get the chance again …

    I got your suggestion to
    [still answer] the first question.
    With you there’s nothing wrong
    through painful berry sadness growing
    the lyrics are just flowing
and I feel like rhyming along.

Okay, what did you do to ME now?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Eeeeeeee! Love love LOVE you!!! Ahhhhh!

Quick! Throw those blueberries in a {vegan} cheese sandwich before it’s too late! o.O

  6. I will never say to no to berries. Or goodbye. I’m just glad TJ’s has great frozen blends. I still need to buy my first pumpkin can of the season. My mom already got on the wagon and it’s weird cause I’m usually first! She already made pancakes and muffins with pumpkin. I’ve gotta catch up.

  7. I shed a tear at the title of this post.

I know it’s time for me to turn to the apple (you can keep your pumpkin) but I appreciated your oh so eloquent and poetic ode to berries. It warmed the cockles of my heart.

    Sniff, sniff.

  8. I still really want to try those funny looking kiwi berries! I have been eating pumpkin for weeks now. Actually, I never really stopped eating it im just eating it a lot more now!

  9. I’m SO excited for pumpkin season!!

  10. I am constantly salivating over your delicious eats over on Instagram. That wrap looks so good. Have a great day

  11. So…you’re awesome. I just had to put that out there πŸ˜‰ And while I’m sad over berries, I’m happy about pumpkin, squash and apples πŸ˜€

  12. I think you should write foodie children’s books. You’re a master with the food rhymes. Also, I love berries and I never want them to leave.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, there’s a genre of foodie children’s books?! I am SO getting in on that! Though I’d love to have a co-author…I seem to remember a certain someone with a pretty compelling story about kale! πŸ˜‰

  13. Amry says:

I can’t wait for your pumpkin recipes Heather! Btw, what are those green fruits in your first and second picture? They look like tiny kiwis.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

They are! They’re called kiwi berries! They taste almost exactly like the bigger ones, but they don’t have any fuzz on the outside…which means that I can eat them without having an allergic reaction! Yay!!

  14. Eric says:

I had pumpkin pie custard at ted drewes the other day! Ermagherd so gooood!

  15. But it doesn’t HAVE to be bye-bye — there are still frozen ones to enjoy! I know it’s not exactly the same, but they’re still good in a pinch. I was sad to see berries go for all of about 2 minutes before my misery was drowned out by the plethora of pumpkin, squash, and apple goodness that’s everywhere at this time of the year. I’m sure I’ll be lusting over berries in a couple of months, but for now… eat ALL the pumpkin!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

So true! I’ve got my freezer stocked FULL of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries…just need to pop a few peaches in there and I’ll be set! But yeah, for now, I’m too busy checking my palms for signs of orange to think about them! Lol

  16. You’re cracking me up, as always. Ok woman, I love that we texted nonstop about protesting pumpkin well into Fall…and then on the same day…just days later…we post a first sign of pumpkin! Haha

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I know, right? I couldn’t help but get a kick out of your baked pumpkin oatmeal post…which by the way made me drool all over my freaking computer! πŸ˜‰

  17. This post makes me so sad and so happy all at the same time! πŸ˜‰

  18. This post officially put me into mourning…I managed to wean myself off berry goodness until this post reminded me I have to wait another 8 months to stuff my face my favourite fruits…I’m going to console myself by opening up a can of pumpkin and begin some baking therapy!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahhhh! Why did you have to put a number with it?! Quick, hand me a tissue…or a spoonful of pumpkin…whichever’s closer!!! Waaah!

  19. Chrystal says:

As much as I love my summer berries, I love my fall pumpkin even more. My cousin has a pumpkin patch and we go through the process of picking and even canning. I make my own puree so I can make pumpkin butter and pumpkin sauce too. I’ll free some puree for baking and other yummy treats. Fall is my favorite time of year and I am anxious to get started!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow! That is so cool that you have access to a pumpkin patch! I don’t think I’ve ever even tried homemade pumpkin puree before…I bet it’s amazing!

  20. Love this! I’m definitely sad to see my berries go, but I’m super excited for pumpkin! I opened my first can of the season last weekend to make baked pumpkin doughnuts and they were SO good! I’m already planning my next use with pumpkin. Bring on all of the Fall and Winter pumpkin goodies!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Pumpkin doughnuts? Oh YUM!! And I feel ya girl…I swear I’m going to break Pinterest with all the pumpkin I’ve been stuffing into it! Lol

  21. This cracked me up. So thanks for that!!!

  22. What’s wrong with you? It’s just a case of food blogger-itis. Don’t worry, I have it too. πŸ˜‰

I said goodbye to my precious berries over a week ago and I thought I would be devastated, but I’ve actually barely missed them. Pumpkin, pears, apples, bananas, and figs have been keeping me more than satisfied!

  23. Thar’s that big ole thing of pumpkin!!

I’m going to start eating it with a spoon…. hoping to turn ginger like I said πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! Just remember…Oompah Loompahs have GREEN hair! πŸ˜‰

      • Crap, totally NOT the kinda ginger I want πŸ˜‰

Although my youngest son did the turning orange hue when he wa a babe – he was so allergic to EVERYTHING that was limited to potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots pretty much. hehe.

        • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, you turned your baby ORANGE?! haha! Hopefully he can eat more than that now?

          • Oh crap, is that bad parenting??! πŸ˜‰
At least it was just his nose. Hehehe.

Yes, food wise he’s a lot better. He used to be allergic to wheat, eggs, tomatoes, green beans, milk, soy, peanuts, to name a few. ha. Now it’s just mainly eggs and peanuts, with really bad seasonal allergies.

          • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, that must be quite a challenge for your family. I never had any problems growing up…just developed my allergy to kiwi and lactose intolerance in the last 3-5 years. And I SERIOUSLY can’t imagine being allergic to peanuts! πŸ™

  24. What’s wrong with you? I thought we had a deal you would keep up this berry-ness in honour of ME entering the Summer season. Its not all about you. its all about ME.

kidding. sort of. I cannot wait to see this #strangebutgood concoction- My mouth needs a party, its palate is getting abit bored.

That also came out much dirtier than I expected. See what your blog does to me?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Bahahaha! Oh geez…just don’t tell you mother I’m such a bad influence! 😯 And seriously, I would have kept it all about YOU if these darn things didn’t end up tasting like watery mush in less than a months time! Do me a favor and frolic in the berry glory over there in Aussie land! πŸ˜‰

  25. I LOVE this! By the end you had me saying everything in a sing song voice and I had to go back and re-read it after I finished the first time, bc I enjoyed it so much.

I’m with you on the denial. I hate saying good-bye to summer berries, there is absolutely nothing like them, just wish they stuck around longer.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Aww, thank you, Jillian! You just made my day! And so glad I’m not the only one a little torn up about the “berry breakup”! πŸ˜‰

  26. I haven’t craved a sandwich in twelve thousand years, but you’ve totally made me WANT fresh berries oozing with cheeseee right now!!! πŸ™‚ YUM

  27. I snickered the whole way through this! You are amazing. And so are your #strangebutgood tendencies. πŸ˜‰

  28. I almost feel like I could’ve written this post myself…let’s welcome in the orange together!

  29. Oh this was painful! you reminded me of the berry less time πŸ™
And all those pretty amazing yummy berry pictures – cruel you!!! πŸ˜‰

  30. I’m slowly making my way there… I still haven’t bought pumpkin though!
