February: The Month of Deliciousness and Deliriousness

What up, peeps?!

Since a certain smoothie is planning on making it’s GRRRR(roll the “r”)AND appearance tomorrow, the good ol’ “Currently” is getting bumped up to today. And since I almost always look back on old posts when I copy and paste ALL THE LINESΒ I’m reminiscing about months prior, I thought it was a little misleading to see a bunch of books as the first picture for every.single.post.

So, how about you just look at my beautiful and of course, always humble/modest/whateverwhoamikiddingimgorgeous face instead?

February Current Outfit Selfie

Hey there good lookin’! Come here often? πŸ˜‰

Current Book:Β

February Books

Yes, now let’s talk about some bookage! And the fact that every one I read this month had to do with an animal?? Yeah, I swear I didn’t do that on purpose. Lost & Found was a little REALLY peculiar in the beginning, but it got better, Cleo was a tear-jerker slash ab workout (think Marley & Me), and Dogs of Babel? Yeah, how about I finished it at work and was doing the whole fan-the-face-don’t-you-dare-smudge-your-makeup dance? Get it, read it, you’re welcome! πŸ˜€

Current Music:

Β I’ve seriously played this song FOUR times while typing this post! How have I never heard of these guys before?! LOVE!

Current Guilty DISPleasure:

The fact that I’ve fallen SO behind in responding to comments and reading blogs lately! Promise to find time this weekend to get caught up! πŸ™

Current Nail Color:

Β Nub…is that a color? Because that’s totally what the end of each of my fingers resemble right about now. Note to self: Apply strengthening polish yesterday.

Current Wish/Needs:

Besides a nail transplant, I am in desperate, serious, β™ͺβ™«Β URGENT, URGENT, EMERRRRRRRGENCYΒ β™ͺβ™«Β need of some murther erffin’ SLEEP! I tend ride waves with my sleep patterns working the night shift (yep, just typed “shit”), but for the last two weeks, I’ve been caught in some serious undercurrent! Sadly, the meds I got from the doc isn’t knocking me the furk out, but I DO have an appointment with a therapist next week who can Β hopefullyΒ give me a lobotomy help me out!

Current Entertainment:

iPhone - Spotify

Am I gonna be that annoying girl who flaunts her new iPhone all over the place until you want to wring her skinny little neck? Why yes, yes I am! C’mon guys, I haven’t had a new phone in three years…that’s like a mil-bajil- a freakin’ LOT! And seriously, how am I only now discovering Spotify? It makes my OCD music-lovin’ soul sing…and cracks the wine glasses in my cupboards!

Current Drink:

Wine

Speaking of wine, I like it…like, a lot. I kinda forgot that. It’s been a while since I’ve had any, but after my trip to ATL, I’ve been having these cool little wine parties. There’s cheese and these freaking delicious crackers and it’s pretty low key…usually just a few guests me…at like seven in the morning.

Can you see the reflection of my beautiful new iPhone? Huh? Can you??

Coffee

Dear God, thank you for wine to put me to sleep…even if it’s only for FOUR FREAKING HOURS and then lots and LOTS of coffee (I’ve made it to a tolerance of 3/4 caff now) to help me power through blog writing at 4am. And cups half the size of my coffee pot, yes, thank you for those too!

Current Food:

Pizza

Don’t ever EVER allow me to lie to you by saying anything is better than a Hugh Jass, thick, doughy slice of pizza. Seriously, who was I kidding thinking that thin crust was where it’s at!? Shaaa!

Beet Smoothie

I am in LOVE with this smoothie and I seriously canNOT wait to share the recipe with you guys tomorrow…and that glorious color comes from, you guessed it, MORE BEETS! I can’t even tell you how many of those sweet ruby gems I’ve eaten lately!

Hashtag pinkpee πŸ˜†

Graham Cracker PB&J

Annnnd PB&J grahammiches! Nom nom NOM!

Let it be noted that I am deliberately avoiding the subject of how many vegan pancakes I’ve eaten this month.

Current Triumphs:

Workout Gym Selfie & Smoothie

I’ve finally found a good stride in my workouts again! Earlier in the month, I could feel myself getting bored with my workouts, but after a little “kick” in the booty down in ATL, and armed with some new kicks myself, I’ve been busting out some sweaty sessions! And look at that…another smoothie! πŸ˜‰

Current Bane of Existence:

Β Well, let’s see…I’ve almost made it through an entire week of work onnnnnn wait, let me count them…plus three, carry the two…FOURTEEN hours of sleep!

Hashtag shootme

Current Blogger Crush:

Ok, enough complaining! Wanna laugh? Of course you do! I mean, what kind of Scrooge says no to a question like that??! Click over to this woman’s blog and try, just TRY not to giggle pee your pants! Also, drool all over her food pictures. Melissa, I am forever in your debt for “introducing” us! πŸ˜‰

Current Indulgence:

Cookies & Cream Quest Bar

Can’t…stop….eating….Quest bars! Also, #questbarporn

‘Nuff said!

Cookies & Cream Questbar with Peanut Butter

Actually wait, no. Cookies & cream Quest bar. Microwaved. Topped with peanut butter.

Now, ’nuff said! πŸ˜‰

Current Blessing:

Friends to text until 3am and all the positive energy vibes on Instagram that got me through one HELL of a sleepy shift on Tuesday morning. Oh and waterproof, smudge-proof eyeliner that actually helps me fake the whole I’m awake thing.

Current Outfit:

Pretty in PINK! See gorgeous selfie at beginning of post for proof.

Current Excitement:

I seriously can’t even TELL you how excited I am for the weekend (Thursday-Saturday) to be here! Not only for a chance to mayyyyyyybe, hopefully? please, God?! get caught up on some sleep, but I actually have a pretty FULL schedule of activities! Dinner with an old friend tonight, hanging with the besties on Friday, and a wine party with my work/yoga friend on Saturday…I think we’ll push back the time a bit…maybe like noon.

Current Link:

Ben & Jerry’s New Core Ice Cream Flavors 😯

Current Mood:

Umm, der, sleeeeeeeeepy!

What flavor of Ben & Jerry’s would you want to try first?
I got dibs on the peanut butter fudge!

What are you CURRENTLY excited about?

  1. You are so cute and I love your face! OMG spotify is the best thing ever. I love love love it. And I’m jealous if your new phone!

  2. I can totally relate on the lack of sleep, and I’ve realized the older I get the harder it is to push through the day with 3 hours of sleep- how did I do that at least three times a week in college?? I always say I will catch up on my sleep during the weekend, but babies don’t know it’s the weekend and wake up at 6 every morning.. One day I will be well rested, one day.

  3. um the music geek in me loves you, I just listened to them and now will be spending my work day listening to them in the background. thank you for that one πŸ™‚

  4. The smoothie curiosity is killing me now. I love a beet smoothie… and I need to branch out from my chocolate beet or the orange beet. MYpee is never red though. Is that weird?

I just JUST tweeting with Sarah and Gaby about those B&J flavors last night!!! The description of the chocolate-PB core having the exact PB consistency put me over the edge. You should add this to your wine party. LOL!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Done! Oh and speaking of wine party…I tried that Bermuda triangle cheese last night and OMG!! At first, I wasn’t so sure about it, but after it came to room temperature it was soooo much better! And my friend brought over something called Raclette Cheese to our little wine party for two last night and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! She got it at Publix of all places!

And you know, I’ve heard not everyone is as sensitive to beets, but I swear, I can’t even eat half of one without seeing a difference! Ha!

    • My current excitement is that I get to go back to ATL myself at the end of March…where I will also be reminded how much fun it is to drink wine (and other things). Funny how Laura does that…. πŸ™‚

  5. Sarah says:

So I finished the Dogs of Babel last weekend (and it only took me so long becuase of the olympics!) but now I can’t stop thinking about dog experimentation – so I need a new book to replace those haunting images. Maybe I’ll give Cleo a shot… I’ve been into the animal books lately too. Have you read Karen Jay Fowler’s newest book “We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves”? I guarantee you won’t be able to put that one down either.

I hope you can get your sleep stuff figured out. I have the same issue of only being able to sleep for about 4hrs. and then wake up and can’t get back to sleep. It sucks. Not just because it’s annoying to be staring at the ceiling for hours on end, but because it makes my body so wonky in so many ways when I don’t get good sleep. So I feel your pain and I hope you can get it figured out soon. For what it’s worth, melatonin has been helping me a little bit at least. Mostly I just feel like I’m getting better quality sleep of the few hours I get, but every little bit helps. But I’m glad to see that your lack of sleep has not interfered with your culinary geniousness. Or maybe it’s helping… I mean who in their right mind would think to put a quest bar in the microwave?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awwww! Besides the nightmares, did you like it though? I know I was a blubbering idiot toward the end, especially after what happened to Lorlei, but omg, I just thought it was written so well…I got completely lost in it! I haven’t heard of that book by Fowler, but I just looked it up on Goodreads and now I’m really curious! Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll definitely have to check it out!

Ugh, I hate to hear you’re going through the same crappy sleep stuff! I swear, those short hours really catch up with you before too long! I feel like I’ve tried EVERYTHING though…melatonin, sleepy tea, deep breathing, no caffeine, no technology before bed…this visit to the doc last week was seriously like an act of desperation! If the therapist that I’m scheduled to see this week can’t help me, I might seriously consider hypnotherapy! Ha!

  6. Medium to thick crust all the way!! Can’t wait for that beet smoothie recipe. Prettiest thing I’ve seen all week aside from my reflection (just kidding). I hope you get to catch up on your sleep soon/get that all figured out. Lack of sleep, for me, eventually starts poking itself into other areas of my life and it’s no good!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

“Prettiest thing I’ve seen all week aside from my reflection” <- Haha! LOVE it!! And you couldn't be more spot on with the lack of sleep statement...it's only a matter of time before it starts taking over your entire world! Luckily, I was able to get caught up a bit this weekend so here's hoping this week turns out a bit better! *fingers crossed*

  7. I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight after reading this post. I have so much commentary. But I’m witholding it until you comment on my blog.

I’M JUST KIDDING!!! Nothing makes me happier than waking up to a KMB inbox rape.

Tell those quest bars to get their ass to Canada. My therapist encourages wine consumption. Ben and Jerry’s makes me believe in God.

    Adios.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! Oh Davida! Girl, you…seriously, I just freaking love you! And I’ve BEEN commenting on your blog…but I’m STILL behind! I swear, one of these days I’ll get caught up…and then you’ll slap up another 5 posts in one day and I’ll be behind again! Whyyyyyyyy?! πŸ˜‰

  8. Denise says:

Number 1: I LOVE that coffee cup! and B: FLASH that phone! I’m waiting for the one I want to be available as a refurb (REFUSE to pay full price!) and I’ll be flashing that sucker too!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thanks! I got it at TJ Maxx and have actually been using it merely for decorative purposes (since it’s the size of a small child) but last week’s sleep deprivation definitely warranted a BIG cup! Haha!

  9. Eric says:

Step 1: Become your boss’ boss

    Step 2: Create schedules

Step 3: Never work nights again πŸ™‚

    Step 4: Sleep profit!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ugh…only bad thing about that genius step-by-step plan? Becoming my boss’s boss is basically the equivalent of signing up to be the residing Wicked Witch of the West…hospital politics…so not going there!

  10. Ahhh I saw those Ben & Jerry’s flavours! That is one of those things that better make their way up to Canada or I’m basically going to throw a fit/figure out a way to smuggle them across the border.

And ugh, sleeping when you work a night shift. I’ve had two jobs where I had that shift, and the last one just about killed me. I would be in bed at 8, and the latest I could manage to sleep would be like 12, and I could maybe get in a nap before going in that night. Seriously, death.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahhh, someone who REALLY understands! My thing is, I have no problem getting to sleep, it’s STAYING asleep! And while I did manage to catch up a bit over the weekend, I’m really hoping I don’t have to suffer through another four days of that mess until I can do it again! Hopefully the doc will be able to work some magic on me come Tuesday…otherwise I’m gonna have to hunt down this ice cream and drown my sorrows! Ha!

  11. Heather, I can’t believe you stood me up on our date last night! I found a stash of ginger, peppermint and peanut butter Chimes! Now I truly believe miracles do come in small packages. AKA, Marshall’s food isle. Sigh, of course I had to blog about it because it blew my mind. Please tell me you’ve tried the PB ones. I actually started smiling like Willy Wonka after he just tasted his first piece of chocolate.

Damn, I probably freaked the people out in the car next to me. Oh well.

I don’t know what Spotify is because I am old school with my Pandora-ish ways, but I am currently downloading it now thanks to you. And since you ditched me I expect lessons on how to do recreate your perfect cat-eye, sistas got makeup skills! You look stunning πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Awww, thank you! I’ve actually just started playing around with eyeliner in the last year…and then more in the last few months since I actually found some good ones at Sephora. I used to be SO bad at putting it on…like you could see a line BETWEEN the liner and where it should’ve been! Ha! I’m still learning though…the other day, once I got to work, I realized I cat-eyed one and not the other! Oops?

Omg, the peanut butter Chimes are undoubtedly a gift from the heavens! I go back and forth, but that one and the mango are my favorites! Actually, I have a bowl right next to my computer right now…I think I’ll have one and pretend I was there with you, jumping up and down in the middle of Marshall’s! πŸ˜‰

PS, how are you liking Spotify? I finally downloaded it on the computer last night (yeah, I’mma dweeb and didn’t realize it was more than just an app! Ha!) and now I’m totally convinced that Pandora has seen it’s last play! The only thing that kills me…and I mean KILLS me…is that stupid greeting card advertisement they run every 20 minutes!

  12. betty says:

i feel ya on the sleep thing girl! 2-3 nights a month I have nights where I cannoooot for the life of me go to sleep.. it takes a few more nights to recoup from that, then I have another one not to long from that one. ugh. so frustrating!

currently excited about: a half day at work tomorrow.. and i’ll be able to try a new little local restaurant for lunch!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh man, so sorry girlie! Those recuperating nights (days in my case) can sometimes be just as worse! Wouldn’t wish this crap on anyone that’s for sure!

Hope you had a good weekend lonnnnng weekend! πŸ˜€

  13. PS Ben and Jerry have a PB&J flavor at Target that makes me cry every time I see it

  14. Kat says:

    1. Tone down the gorgeousness will ya? You’re making the rest of us feel bad. πŸ˜‰
2.I have yet to try the cookies n cream questbar and its pissing me off that you’ve had like, three entire boxes already. Share the freakin’ wealth Heather!!
    3. GET SOME SLEEP!! Man….I thought I had sleep issues! Although mine is the whole insomnia thing while your is an actual work thing. Bright side…at least you get paid!
Hope you get some rest soon love πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      1. Haha! Umm, sorry?
      2. Girl, it’s good, but it still doesn’t make me moan like a cookie dough.
2a. Did I really just say that?
      2b. Yes, yes I did!
      3. I GOT SOME SLEEP!! Now let’s just hope and pray and cross our fingers and rub a lucky rabbit’s foot that I can switch back to my night shift sleeping schedule and not have a repeat of the last couple of weeks. Yeah, I’m getting paid…but NOT when I’m pacing the floor in the middle of the afternoon when I SHOULD be sleeping! πŸ™

  15. Lyric says:

Gah that quest bar is perfection. I cannot even explain how badly I want to give em’ a try but driving a couple hours for a protein bar is a little much; so I just need an excuse to go to the big city. I want the Salted Caramel. Swoon. Sadly I don’t think Canada will be getting them anytime soon. We are usually pretty late in the game when it comes to things like that. Currently I am excited to go see Luke Brian in May!! Eeep.

  16. Girl I feel you on the no sleep issue. I’ve dealt with insomnia for as long as I can remember. I have tried every script out there only to either not tolerate it well or have it wear off after a few weeks. I know its hard for you with your work hours. I think in time I just learned to accept it as part of life and work with it. I read when I can’t sleep or do some writing for my books. Sometimes I just sit and be still, like meditate. It usually doesn’t take long before I can clear my head and get a little rest. Other times I’ll finish that novel thats been collecting dust on my nightstand.

I’m seriously going to have to order some Quest bars. I have been hearing so much about them from so many people, I am starting to feel left out πŸ˜‰

As for the new Ben & Jerry flavor, I am with you on the PB, but I am still angry at them for discontinuing Dublin Mudslide. Best. Flavor. Ever.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Dublin Mudslide?! Omg, HOW did I never even know such a thing USED to exist?! That sounds amazing…and now my life may never be complete! πŸ™ Haha! Girl, you gotta get you a Quest bar! A cookie dough one. They’re the best! I swear they lace them with crack…especially since today is like the first day in like TWO WEEKS that I haven’t had one…yet! Haha!

I think I might pick up another book. The last time I remember sleeping really well was when I was reading every day. After I finished Dogs of Babel, I kinda took a break…and then the 3-4 hours of sleep nights days started happening…maybe it’s a sign that my inner bookworm is a little PO’d! πŸ˜‰

  17. Girl… I’m so behind too. bad. Since you are dealing with insomnia… why don’t you come hang with baby d at night? He’s up too. πŸ˜‰

  18. Julie says:

Pizza is the best ever, and I finally tried the red velvet wine – not bad for a non-wine drinker like me. I love cheese so that’s probably why I made the switch to wine.

  19. “Yes, now let’s talk about some bookage!” <— At first glance I thought that said "bondage" and I was like "Woah, hello, what kind of books has Heather been reading?" Haha! πŸ˜‰

Totally agree about doughy pizza – the best! Thin crust is just never as satisfying.

Currently I'm excited about seeing my guy tomorrow. It sucks only getting to see him on weekends!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Bahahaa! Oh no, my Fifty Shades days are over! πŸ˜‰ And THANK YOU!! I feel like so many bloggers are all about the thin crust, gluten-free crust, paleo crust…I just like, “GIMME ALL THE BREAD!!” Lol! Awww, I hope you and your honey had a good weekend…hopefully it involved a little bread and not bondage…well, unless you’re into that! In that case, don’t forget your safe word! πŸ˜†

  20. It’s definitely getting to the point where I want to wring your skinny little neck… I want a new phone! I’m still rockin’ the 4 — not even the 4s — and it’s so slow that I barely ever want to log on to Instagram or Twitter anymore because it takes forEVer. Ugh. Jealous. But happy for you anyways… I guess πŸ˜›

    • kissmybroccoli says:

That’s why I finally had to cave! I had a 4 too and didn’t even realize it was as slow as it was until I visited Laura…we’d both open our camera apps and she’d already have like 5 pictures taken before mine even loaded! I was like a year overdue for my upgrade anyway, but that definitely motivated me!

  21. #pinkpee <— This is why I love you (among other reasons of course πŸ˜‰ ). I having been eating ALL the Quest bars lately and I'm not even sorry about it.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! πŸ˜‰ I’ll never forget the first time I noticed that and was like…omg, do I have a kidney infection?!? Lol

And I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! True story…I was so dog-ass tired last week and didn’t want to think when it came to my last meal of the day so I totally had a Quest bar every morning! Haha!

      • I’ve been doing the same (although my Quest bar consumption occurs at night since I have a slightly more normal schedule hah). Honestly, it is not unusual if I have two of them. They are just so delicious and convenient and prevent the hunger beast from waking me up at unholy hours.

  22. Love that mug, the new Quest bar and I would love to try that wine! I have heard good things about it but I haven’t gotten around to trying it out. I am not a fan of wine… but so what I will give it a try lol πŸ™‚

  23. Wow! So much good stuff in this blog post. First, I’ve never heard of Quest bars & these look very yummy. Going on this weeks shopping list. Done! Second, that smoothie looks I incredible. I must try just to taste how the cottage cheese plays into the mix. Last, I thought your pizza was a brownie lol!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hmm, pizza flavored brownie? #strangebutSTRANGE 😯 Haha! The smoothie is great…I think the main benefit from using cottage cheese instead of Greek yogurt (besides having a little more protein per serving) is that it tends to be thicker so it helps keep the smoothie from getting runny. I don’t know about you, but I like my smoothies/shakes spoonable! πŸ™‚

You’ve GOT to try a cookie dough Quest bar! Just make sure when you’re shopping for them, that they are super soft and bendable through the package…the harder they are the less flavor they tend to have IMO.

  24. Totally with you on the PB Fudge Ben & Jerry’s. Kind of brilliant.

  25. So completely off topic but-
    1. You have an iphone.
    2. You work nightshifts which = Daylight Australia time.
    3. iMessage = free = free = good = boredom killer= phone romance with your favourite aussie.

and to end on a 4….You’ll probably like an upcoming giveaway I’ll have happening! πŸ˜‰ Which ties in to something I’m currently excited about- my blog makeover. Finally.

  26. I seriously laughed out loud when you called your nail color nub. Girl, you kill me. πŸ˜€
Coffee, questbars, pb&j, smoothies? Yes, yes, yes, and yes!
I hope you catch up on your sleep soon.

    Looking gorgeous as always! πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Honestly, I think I cracked myself up! Haha! Thanks hon, you’re the best! πŸ˜€ I’m definitely feeling a bit better after this weekend on the sleep front…now here’s hoping I can snap back to my night schedule this week! *fingers crossed*

  27. 1) You are too fuh-reaking cute in that picture and I love your top. Also as a fellow green eyed gal I think we rock some pink ;).

    2) I LOVE THAT SONG. It came out probably 3 or 4 years ago and I remember I had it on repeat for basically a year (only a slight exaggeration). Thanks for the reminder! I know what I’m blasting during my workout today.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Aww, thanks Jess! And yes, I’m all about some pink and purple to really get my peepers poppin! Haha!

  28. I know you need some sleep, but you’re pretty damn funny without it. Love all the hashtags, love the new wine addiction, and love the book reading. Three books in one month is quite impressive and very well deserved. Yep, I think I’m going to scrap working on my new Recipe widget for book reading instead. It’ll be there next weekend. And the one after that. And the one after that.

Now go the EF to sleep. Another great book. πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Actually, I thought the same thing! This past week may have been one of the most sleep-deprived, but I felt like I was ON FIRE when it came to blogging! Maybe it’s because I was too tired to overthink things? And I’m pretty convinced that I need to pick up another book since the last time I was sleeping soundly was when I was sucked into Dogs of Babel…I think it’s a sign that my inner bookworm is a little pissed! Ha!

Update: I DID get some sleep this weekend…let’s just hope it’s not the last time I get rest until NEXT weekend! >.<

    Have a great weekend sweets.
