Confessions

Hey guys! So I saw this post on Katy’s blog today and I thought I’d do a little confession post of my own. I know it’s not the first time I’ve “bared all” here on KMB, but there seems to be some habits I’ve developed over the past few weeks that I feel I need to just get out there…plus, I here it’s good for the soul! Or wait, maybe that’s chicken soup?

πŸ˜‰

1. Although I live alone, and have for quite some time now, I seem to think I am a bottomless bit when it comes to fresh produce…either that, or I’m a little addicted to the local farmer’s market.

Exhibit A

And B

Annnnnd C

Um, is it just me, or is Mr. Aloe Plant flippin us off??

2. I buy foodie items with absolutely NO idea what I’m going to do with them…please refer to Exhibit B. Quick! I need ideas for rhubarb!

3. For someone who used to think coconut was “gross,” I seem to have developed quite aΒ liking obsession with it!

4 POUNDS for 10 bucks?!?! Heck yeah!

5. No matter that I probably have 20+ books in my office that have NEVER been read…I’d Β  Β  rather read food blogs instead!

6. Apparently I also think I’m kin to Dr. Seuss!

7. I didn’t have one sip of water yesterday! πŸ™

8. I don’t even remember the last time I actually put some effort into cooking dinner!

Dinner: Egg sandwich with homemade roasted potato chips
(I hate the word “tater”)

9. The entire time I was eating dinner, I was dreaming of oatmeal.

Yes, PB&J BBQ oatmeal!

Mmmm!

10. Sometimes I put food I’ve never tried up on a pedestal…

Only to be disappointed in the end.

Why Mighty Maple…why?? πŸ™

Anything you’d like to confess?

Oh I hate the Mighty Maple was a disappointment πŸ™ I was so happy for you when I saw it on Twitter.
I am also a bottomless produce pit, especially fruit. A girl on another blog last week commented that she had eaten a pound of strawberries in two days!! (like it was unbelievable) and I was like, yeah? I just got done eating a pound of strawberries while reading this blog!! Yeah, they were that good. I do better with my other fruit, but I still am a bottomless pit!
I have seen some recipes for rhubarb-strawberry compote that can be used to put on top of oats – they looked yummy!
I don’t put in much effort in cooking either because I love my smoothies and fruit too much!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

“I was like, yeah? I just got done eating a pound of strawberries while reading this blog!!” <- Bahaha!

I have been eating fruit lately like it's my job! It's crazy! Guess my body's just been craving more water because of the heat!

  2. I will gladly take that mighty maple off your hands!!! And you should definitely make a rhubarb crisp πŸ™‚

  3. Well now that you mention it, there are definitely a few things I’d like to get off my chest… First off, I killed one of my mom’s plants. It’s true. She left me in charge of taking care of her plants while she was on vacation, knowing full well that I lack plant keeping skills of any sort, and one kind of “slipped” off the stand while I was watering it and made a big mess on the floor. I’m hoping that I can just buy another one and she’ll never know. It works that way with goldfish, right? And another thing, I always hide the good food, or the last cookie/muffin in the depths of the fridge so that no one takes them from me. Plant killer and food hoarder. I know… I’m a horrible person πŸ˜‰

    <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Works with goldfish! Bahahaha! You know, if the plant is still intact, you can just put it in another pot with some potting soil and “surprise” her with the gift of a brand new pot!

When I was little, I totally used to hide the last Little Debbie Cake in my room so that my dad wouldn’t eat it!

  4. Hahah you crack me up. I love the pictures at the end. Was that your first time trying that flavor or that brand? I still haven’t tried PB&Co. yet.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

First time with that particular flavor. I’ve tried White Chocolate Wonderful, Dark Chocolate Dreams, and Cinnamon Raisin Swirl…the last one is the only one I’d ever buy again. The DCD was good, but MaraNatha’s dark chocolate almond butter is waaaay better!

  5. Amy says:

I unfortunately am just a bottomless pit when it comes to food in general. I tidied up my pantry this past weekend and had to admit to myself…..that I have a bit of a problem. I think I could fill a bomb shelter with food from my pantry and have enough in there to feed a family of 10 for at least a few years :s

And I really hate disappointments πŸ™ I forced my parents in law to bring me a jar of white chocolate wonderful back to Australia from the US last year only to open it up and find nothing but peanut butter with far too much sugar in it πŸ™ I’d asked for mighty maple too but it got lost somewhere in customs. Maybe it would have disappointed me too………

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yeah, I wasn’t too impressed with the WCW either. Cinnamon raisin swirl is really my only fave from them. What I really want to try is the Naturally Nutty brand! Have you seen all those flavor combos?! Crazy!

I’m definitely a non-perishable food hoarder too! You’d think I lived with a family of four by the look of my shelves!

      • Amy says:

Sadly we don’t get Naturally Nutty here (we in fact don’t get any kind of flavoured peanut butter at all! We get peanut butter and no added sugar or salt peanut butter. That is it. Lame.) Never mind, it’s probably good for my waistline that we don’t get so many flavours. I’m sure I’d walk around all day eating them with a spoon!

  6. qq:) says:

wa so glad that you can have so many fruits in your fridge!!
my family only but apples and oranges…
    no change!!

  7. hah, i do the same with produce πŸ˜› just last friday there were 8 1-lb containers of strawberries in the fridge. there’s half of one left. save for a couple berries here and there…i’m the only one who’s responsible for that. and i like it. All of your farmer’s market loot looks sooo good. I made some rhubarb compote a while back that was really good, as well as some muffins. And I just saw this recipe posted that I’d love to try: http://fooddoodles.com/2011/06/10/rhubarb-crumble-bars/
And re: dinner? oh. my. god. I have been SO lazy with my meals lately. Hello, fried eggs & waffles. Sunday night I finallllyy put a little effort into a sweet potato pizza. …but made enough to have leftovers into tomorrow.
And for the record, I am absolutely not complaining πŸ˜‰
Sorry for your Mighty Maple disappointment! I tell myself I’m not a huge fan of it either. I’m not sure if it’s truly because I don’t like it or because I’m too cheap to want to buy it, anyway. I’m all about the natural, $1.99 stuff these days.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

$1.99?! What a steal! I’d be all over that too! Actually I’m thinking of making my own maple pb…just adding my maple extract to a PB jar! Badda bing, badda boom!

8 pounds of strawberries in 5 days?! That’s got to be some kind of record girlie! haha!

  8. lindsay says:

Eggs are real dinners to me! and have not tried mighty maple, good thing! I’ll pass. I take your word for it.
    πŸ˜‰

  9. PB out of the jar is the way to go πŸ˜‰

  10. Cait's Plate says:

Haha – loved this post. I too could confess many of the same things πŸ™‚

Sad that Mighty Maple was no good πŸ™ I think Justin’s Nut Butters makes a maple peanut butter, maybe try that one and see if it’s any better?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’ve tried Justin’s maple almond butter and I want to marry it and have it’s baby! It’s THAT good! Haha!

  11. I confess that I had a baked potato smothered in nutritional yeast and ketchup for dinner last night. That was it…I was in heaven though. I’ve developed a slight obsession with nooch, potato and ketchup. I think I covered most of the food groups though. Those oats…I need to make them soon! Oh and great deal on the coconut!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohh, LOVE a potato with nooch and ketchup! That was one of my first ways of trying nutritional yeast!

  12. GIRL !! drink your water! I am the same way with produce, right now and always!
nooooo – you didn’t like the mighty maple? πŸ™

I love that you have an aloe plant – they will forever remind me of my Grandpa Z. when he died I was given one of his plants, and my confession? I cried Like A Baby when that plant was no more…

and no effort into dinner? that looks great to me!

  13. Megan says:

i buy far too much produce at the farmers market. I can’t get over how fresh everything is and I kind of go crazy. The rest of my family doesn’t understand the love for veggies so most of the time i eat them on my own. Things rarely go bad so I don’t feel the need to slow down πŸ˜‰
Idea’s for rhubarb: make jam! it’s so easy. there are tons of recipes out there. I make blueberry rhubarb jam and it is to die for πŸ™‚

  14. I’m still scared of nutritional yeast…I need to conquer this fear!
Make rhubarb pie!…I wonder what rhubarb would be like in oatmeal?

  15. I’m not a fan of the Mighty Maple either. Tasted like plain old pb to me. I wish I had that much fresh produce!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      That’s what I thought! Plain peanut butter…with 8 grams of sugar…for $4.65! Oh I want to cry! πŸ™

  16. Allie says:

I consistently buy waaay too much produce as well. There have been some great posts on rhubarb crisps and various desserts floating around, wish I’d bookmarked ’em, they all looked delicious! I have yet to try that PB brand…I find it hard to veer away from plain ol’ (but amazing ol’) peanut butter.

  17. Ragnhild says:

Haha, loved this post- as I always do!
You should make rhubarb- strawberry crumble pic! I made Candle Cafes last year, and it was SO good!!

  18. Aw, that picture of you at the end is so sad! Haha, I hate when something doesn’t live up to my expectations. I still haven’t tried that maple peanut butter, so now I don’t feel as desperate to find it!

Confession- I haven’t had any water today either! I should probably get on that…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ugh, thank you Kate! I swear sometimes I feel like I’m the only one that has to force myself to remember to drink water every day!

  19. alex says:

strawberry rhubarb pie!!! best pie ever

  20. Brittfit says:

I have to confess….I could eat carrots for every meal of the day….I snack on carrots more than anyone I know…… it’s crazy

  21. Rach says:

Mmm… your egg sammie looks yummy! Love all your confessions πŸ™‚

  22. I MISS YOU. I am back in action & i looooved this post :)))

I’m upset that mighty maple was not that good… I have yet to try it but it sounds delicious. Still want to try it not gonna lie πŸ˜‰

And I have a feeling my communal fridge next year is going to be similar… and I will be attacking the produce pretty much all by myself ecause my housemates are not really vegetable aficionados. πŸ˜‰

    <3
    n
PS you are beautiful as usual πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, I miss you too!! I just caught up with you on your 7 things post! You’ve been BUSY!! Glad your back!

  23. Gina says:

You always have the most incredible pictures πŸ™‚

That smoothie sounds amazing I love the chocolate & spice combo!

  24. ew I dont like that pb either… or the chocolate one. its too gritty =( whyyyy do you fail me PBco!? I havent tried any otheres b/c they dissapointed me so!

anywho! the word tater sucks to me too — but i want your potato chips! =) and HOLY PRODUCE WOMAN! i’m jealous <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      Well I’m jealous of your jalapeΓ±o plant…so there, we’re even! πŸ˜‰

Oh and btw, my tomato is STILL green and STILL tiny!! πŸ™

  25. Katy Widrick says:

I would like to confess that my fridge has NEVER looked as clean as yours.
