M is for Monday

M is for…

Making off with the title of this post after seeing it on Allie’s blog!

Being totally MIA for the last day and a half…sorry to leave you guys hanging…I come bearing a recipe today in exchange for your forgiveness! πŸ˜‰

A wonderfulΒ MEET UPΒ with the “delightful” Brittany

Blogger Meetup

We started out a Sweet Cece’s for froyo and ended our night FOUR HOURS LATER with dinner at Olive Garden!Β It was SO good to catch up with her and made me even THAT much more excited for Blend next month! πŸ˜€

A weekend spent with my “mysterious”Β MAN-FRIEND

Haha, I really am having a good time teasing you guys with this! Perhaps one day you’ll eventually see his face!Β And yes, he gardens…while I sit on the deck sipping coffee and taking pictures! πŸ˜‰

Purposefully MAKING a fool out of myself in public…

Hula Hoop

I’m totally not above rocking a hula hoop in the middle of Wal-Mart or trying my best to embarrass the man-friend! πŸ˜‰

Movie shopping and subsequent watching…

MoviesWhat can I say, I have a bit of an eclectic taste…and I’ve been looking for Beetlejuice for FOREVER!!

Mall-shopping pointing and taking pictures…

Candy Store

Yeah, we had a bit TOO much fun in the candy store!

IMG_3482Did you know they still sell candy cigarettes?!

Mmmm’ing over new-to-me-but-seriously-OLD-treats…

IMG_3483The ONE thing we left the store with…we had too after seeing it on Beetlejuice the night before…especially since I’d never had one before.

For the record, it’s basically what I would imagine if Earth Balance’s coconut peanut butter and a Butterfinger bar made a baby (minus the chocolate coating)…and in case that needs further explanation…it’s FREAKIN’ AMAZING!

Modeling shoes that I would never be able to actually wear…

Hooker Heels

Seriously, how do some of you girls do it? I couldn’t even stand up on my GOOD leg!

Marketing in my two very favorite places…

Grocery HaulAnd for the record, only spending around FIFTY dollars! Woo hoo!

PS, the KeVita drink is soooo good!

And finally, not MISSING out on a chance to play with one of my favorite fruits…

Be sure to head on over to Better with Veggies to check out all the blueberry-filled treats everyone concocted for this week’s MMAZ!

I’ve been in a bit of a recipe rut lately, so I decided to go with something quick and easy…

Blueberry Coconut Almond Sauce with YogurtAnd besides, who doesn’t love a good sauce?

Blueberry Coconut Almond Sauce

by Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: N/A

Keywords: microwave breakfast snack appetizer no sugar added blueberries bananas

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 medium fresh or frozen banana, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons coconut flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons dairy or dairy-free yogurt (optional, but delicious!)
  • 2-4 Tablespoons unsweetened almond milk to thin

1. Place blueberries and banana in a small microwave-safe bowl and cook on high for 30 seconds.
2. Combine fruit with the remaining ingredients and process in a small blender or mini food processor until creamy.

Powered by Recipage

I used frozen blueberries and frozen bananas for this, but feel free to use fresh, you may just have to add a bit more liquid to get things nice and saw-seeeeey! πŸ˜‰

You could use this sauce for just about anything: pancakes, oatmeal, the contours of a spoon…

French Toast with Blueberry Coconut Almond Sauce

Or it makes for oneΒ MOUTH-WATERINGΒ addition to French toast!

Or perhaps VEGAN Coconut French toast?

I’ll let you decide! πŸ˜€

Tell me something…ANYTHING…I miss you guys and we need to catch up!

  1. I’m so jealous of your Kevita! That sounds amazing! I might have to request my Whole Foods starts carrying it πŸ™‚ Looks like you had a pretty marvelous weekend!

  2. Madi says:

BeetleJuice and Hoodwinked? Sounds like the best night ever! Also, fun fact: I learned how to hula hoop at 3am in a Walmart in the middle of the desert!

  3. Every day I’m more and more excited about Blend! It’s going to be a blast. πŸ™‚

So when will we “meet” the man friend?!? He gardens? Sounds like a keeper! πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Me too! Can you believe it’s only a few more weeks away? I swear I thought it would never get here and now I’m all like, “Ahhh, I still need to buy a suitcase!!” Lol

Not sure yet when the “big reveal” will be…right now I’m kinda liking his mysteriousness! πŸ˜‰

  4. yummy πŸ˜€ I was hoping you’d submit a recipe for MMAZ πŸ˜€ I was curious all weekend as to what you were making πŸ˜‰ I was pretty stumped this week!

I’m really excited for BLEND, too πŸ˜€ I can’t wait to meet you, sis <3

I am loving that you haven't shared too much about the manfriend on the blog yet. Are you getting a lot of people asking about him? I am getting a lot of q's about mine as I have only mentioned him and not shown his face just as you haven't. Personally, I just think it's not the time and it's not like they opted to have thousands of people looking at their face you know? Like, it was OUR decision and they just happened to meet us πŸ˜‰ lol

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I couldn’t agree with you more, hon! I’ve had a couple of questions, but for the most part, I think people understand. I figure I’ll introduce him when I feel ready…be that next week, next month, or never…that’s the good thing about this being MY blog…I get to do whateva I want! πŸ˜›

Can’t wait to meet you either sweetie! Blend is going to be an absolute BLAST! xoxox

  5. Ha – Beetlejuice is amazing! You kind of have me wanting to watch that movie now…

  6. Ahh, so jealous of your adventures with Brittany, I hope you girls had a blast! I’m thinking that everything in this post sounds pretty darn marvelous, especially the recipe. πŸ™‚ I am trying to be a good local farm supporter and am patiently waiting for blueberries to show up at the farmers market, but all these MMAZ Mondays are veryyy tempting!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh I hear ya girlie! This sauce was made from the VERY last of my stash of frozen blueberries from last year’s farmers market…I was forced to go to the store today and pay $4 for a tiiiiiiiiiny bag of frozen organic ones JUST so that I can make Sarah’s blueberry coconut bread…but I have a feeling it’ll be totally worth it! πŸ˜‰

  7. Oh YES!! I’m glad you went with simple today too, I’m finding that it can be just as good (and sometimes better). And the suggestion to make with french toast…oh yum. I love the way you made your vegan french toast, I’m going to have to try that. Then maybe a french toast tasting party between your recipes & Meg’s. Oh this is sounding like a fun Saturday morning. Why is it only Monday?! πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I couldn’t agree more! I love participating in MMAZ, but I think the reason I missed out so much last time was because I stressed out too much about the “uniqueness” of my recipes…simple really is the way to go sometimes! πŸ™‚

Ohh, I love the idea of the French toast tasting party? When should I be there? πŸ˜‰

  8. Emily says:

What a fun weekend! Seeing BeetleJuice and The Goonies on here put the biggest smile on my face- I swear I will never be too old for those movies!
And good job with your grocery shopping! Sticking to a food budget is one of my goals this week and it’s much easier said than done. PS: That EatPastry cookie dough is un-freakin-believable. Swoon…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, thank GOD! I was SO nervous about getting it…it was by far the most expensive thing I bought but I really wanted a cookie dough without eggs…because well, I have no intention of actually baking any of the dough! πŸ˜‰ #noshame

  9. Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much I’ve missed you
    Yes, I’ve been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted.

Did you buy the book? I’m fascinated.
P.S. He gardens too… this friend impresses me more and more each and every day, and his back side doesn’t look too shabby either (I know you’re reading this Mr. Man Friend, and I’m ok with that).

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! No, I didn’t buy the book! Actually, I didn’t even look inside as I was much too busy running (err, hobbling) around the store snapping pictures of everything while waving it in front of the man-friend’s face going “awwww, remember THESE?!!” Haha!

And yes, he definitely knows a thing or two about veggie-tables…who needs a CSA when I’ve got a SMF (skilled man-friend)? πŸ˜‰

  10. There is so much to comment on… I feel my thoughts are best expressed in list form:

    1. I cannot WAIT for Blend!! Love you lovely ladies.
    2. I have seen his face in person. Mwhahahaha!
    3. Goonies… heyyyy yoooouuu guuuyssss!
    4. I have actually seen that poo book… and bought it for a friend.
    5. Those shoes are killer. Literally. Can’t we all just agree to wear running shoes and flip flops?
    6. Your recipe look berry good. BUT I want PANCAKES!!! πŸ˜‰ Get your spatula ready for BLEND!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yes!!! Nothing says love like a comment in list form! πŸ˜‰

Running shoes and flip flops all the way! If my feet weren’t so tender, I’d give up shoes completely! Lol And oh yeah, I am TOTALLY ready to get my flip on…the spatula will be the FIRST thing that goes in the suitcase! Wait…I still need to buy a suitcase! Shit! Lol

  11. I need that giant sheet of Rice Krispie treats in my life. Oh. man. First you find a bag of Lucky Charms marshmallows, and now a huge sheet of my favorite treats?! Clearly I’m living in the wrong place. And I totally remember “smoking” candy cigarettes as a little kid and thinking I was too cool for school πŸ˜† Ohhhh good times.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, me too! And pair that with a bottle of root beer or cream soda and I thought I was totally bada$$! πŸ˜‰

Seriously, the Rice Krispie treat could feed you for MONTHS!! Lol

  12. I loooove the Kevita Mojita!! It was one of my spiciest market discoveries last week. Initially I just bought one, because I wasn’t so sure about probiotics mixing with a cocktail-wannabe, but I’ve been chugging one during my 5 o’clock cocktail hour every day since. Let’s plan on clinking bottles in Park City, k? πŸ˜€ I would also suggest following up our bottle clinking with a hula-hooping marathon in WalMart (I used to get into so much trouble in that store in high school!), but I’m guessing Park City isn’t WalMart worthy, so we might need to search for fun elsewhere…Maybe a cowboy bar?

The Blueberry Coconut Almond Sauce looks uuuhmaaazing. I haven’t seen any blueberries in the store lately, but once I do, this is going to happen.

    Hugs! <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh I know, I used up the last of my frozen stash from last summer’s farmer’s market…I was forced to go out and buy a $4 bag of organic frozen ones today to replenish…because I just HAVE to make Sarah’s coconut blueberry bread! Did you see it? It looks amazing!

And I am all about some bottle clinking in Park City! But if we do it in a cowboy bar…I have one request, there HAS to be a mechanical bull involved! πŸ˜‰

  13. I love the recipe! I have a ton of coconut flour that I have been trying to use up, and I never thought to use it to make a sauce, but you have now inspired me!

My husband was given that poop book for his birthday! It is too funny! Being that Keenan is potty training right now, that book is SO appropriate for our household, as that is all we seem to talk about these days, ha!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Too funny! I never actually looked at the inside of the book…I was too busy running around the entire store snapping pictures of all the things that reminded me of my childhood! Lol

Coconut flour makes some of the best sauces! I do a mix of coconut flour, almond milk, and stevia to put on pancakes all the time…you can also add in spices like pumpkin pie spice or ginger to mix it up a bit too! πŸ˜€

  14. Lucie says:

I love Mamma Mia! Such a ‘feeling good’ movie. And I like a man who gardens an you can sit and sip coffee. That’s how it is supposed to be in today’s world, right?

That sauce looks oh-so-delicious. I guess I would eat it like a smoothie in a bowl with a spoon and no addings πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, a smoothie? That would TOTALLY work! Good thinking!

PS, I left one thing out from this weekend’s shenanigans…a trip to the post office to send off some wonderfully tasty goodies to a certain blonde bombshell in Switzerland! πŸ˜‰ xoxo

  15. i just discovered kevita myself and i am obsessed! delicious!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yeah? Which flavors have you tried? I picked up the strawberry acai coconut, but I put it back and got the mojito since I’ve seen that one so much on other blogs.

  16. A wonderful time & in light of yesterday, glad that you embraced fun & life! Love the recipe too! πŸ™‚

  17. I LOVE Mamma Mia! I actually just went to see it on Broadway in NYC and it was so so so good! Haha nice butt, manfriend ;P

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ha! I KNEW someone would say that! Hahaha!

So lucky you got to see a show on Broadway! Definitely a bucket list item of mine!

  18. Sorry but … why don’t I see “Tangled” in that pile of DVDs, Heather??? You might have made up ever so slightly by getting Mama Mia but still.
Maybe other readers will get angry with me for saying that but I kind of like you keeping the man-friend a secret – for now ;). Why not add a little mystery, huh? Keeps things interesting.
Ha, no shame in rocking a hulla hoop in public. I think I need to go shopping with you one day :D.
Oh, and that sauce? The blueberry and coconut flour addict in me is so happy seeing the recipe!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Seriously?! If it had been in the $5 bin I totally would have snagged it…LOVE that movie so so much! But alas, I was bargain shopping only! πŸ™ Oh goodness, if we went shopping together? Or better still, if we went GROCERY SHOPPING together?! Ahhhh, we’d probably get kicked out for sure!

Thanks girlie…I’m kinda liking his mysteriousness for the time being too! πŸ˜‰

  19. M is for MAGNIFICANT! Much needed Mentions of Milestones and Munchies.

Love that recipe. Love YOU. Can’t wait to be bedmates at Blend. πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Love YOU…LOVE the alliteration…and I’m totally serious when I call little spoon!

PS, I think you need to make a blueberry coconut almond butter…just saying! πŸ˜‰

  20. This would be good as a dip.. Maybe with more banana or a carrot or rice cakes? Sounds good to me πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yes! I can’t even tell you how many times I changed the name on this from dip to sauce to spread…I almost called it “whatever”! Haha!

  21. Lily says:

I love your blog sooooooooooooooooo much please never stop blogging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live in the UK and loves seeing what it’s like in the USA!! Thanks for your blog you are so totally awesome haha x

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Well…I couldn’t very well stop blogging after a comment like that, now could I?? Thanks sweetie, you just made my day! xoxo

  22. Holy crap! What’s in the container that says “cookie dough”???
Totally would die in those heels! I wore some 3” ones the other night and was MAX’d out! They had a peep toe, which is normally fine, but omg, because of the slant, my toes were steadily being squeezed through the peep! Omg, absolutely terrible, like my toes were having a “tube of tooth paste” moment. I’m just so classy like that πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ummmmm, that would be COOKIE DOUGH! Duhhhhh! πŸ˜‰ Haha! To be more specific, it’s VEGAN cookie dough…bought especially for the purpose of eating straight out of the container! What can I say, I had a craving! πŸ˜‰

Ok, I just finished reading your comment and totally spit all over myself at the “tube of toothpaste” thing! Bahaha! Your poor toes!! Awww!

  23. Mamma Mia and The Goonies… such great choices! I’ve seen Mamma Mia way too many times, but I never get sick of it. πŸ˜€

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has that much fun in candy stores. I always love reminiscing about all my old childhood favourites and checking out all the whacky candy. I can’t say I’ve ever seen bacon gumballs before though – I’m intrigued!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, me neither! And the pickle mints? I was like, “really?!” Haha! Yeah, I had a little too much fun…I was like a kid in a… Haha! Sorry, couldn’t help myself! πŸ˜‰

  24. Lisa says:

    That dressing looks simply marvelous!!
    As does your weekend.
How fun that you also got to meet up with Brittany, she’s adorable! I wish there were more bloggers around me!
Hahah those cigarette candies. Oh man, my friends just bought some a few months ago and caused quite a scene at a club where they were pretending to smoke, it was really funny at the time not so much once the drinks wore off;)
And BeetleJuice may be one of my top favorite movies ever!

  25. Anie says:

Perfect – I was just looking for a recipe to use up the rest of the huge amount of blueberries I froze last year, and that sauce sounds so so good! And, oh my gosh, I JUST bought those exact shoes – well, except mine are purple πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Great! I actually used up the last of my frozen stash making this…sad day! Can’t wait until the farmers market opens up so I can get more!

And I am totally ENVIOUS of your ability to walk in those things! I bow down to your fashion forward footsies! πŸ˜‰

  26. Allie says:

M is for M-ALLITERATION. I know you’re a fellow fanatic for it πŸ™‚ I didn’t even mean to use three Fs in a row. It just happened. So, you still need to get to Menchie’s and REAL froyo (okay, okay, Sweet Cece’s is OKAY, but it really doesn’t compare…). I also bought that ketchup last weekend. TJ’s makes the best stuff!
