Stack it UP September

So you know how the saying goes…

“____ is the best thing since sliced bread”?

It makes perfect sense…I mean, let’s face it, bread by itself IS pretty freakin’ fantastic, but man, then you go and slice that baby up? The possibilities are practically ENDLESS! I feel compelled to make the following addendum to that old adage…

The Greek Sandwich

The best THINGS are BETWEEN sliced bread! 😀

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that my ‘wiching ways never ended last month. Oh no, my love for the sandwich has now grown into an all out obsession! Now, while I could seriously wax poetic about each and every one of these “lustiments” I’m about to share with you, I feel I’ve been chatty enough this week, so how about we just let the FOODPORN tell the tale of my most recent MOUTHGASMS? 😉

“The Greek”

The Greek Sandwich.Lettuce, turkey, red onion, tomatoes, sprouts, kalamata olive tapenade, and crumbled feta with roasted garlic hummus.

“The German”

The German Sandwich

Lettuce, turkey, aged Gouda, sprouts, pickled red cabbage and smoky onion mustard.

“The Californian”

The Californian SandwichLettuce, turkey, cucumber, avocado, strawberries, sprouts, and red onion with mayo.

“The PCB&J Tornado”

Peanut cashew butter, lettuce, turkey, red onion, sprouts, sliced peaches, and homemade “jam” (mashed raspberries).

“The Wine Lover”

The Wine Lover SandwichLettuce, turkey breast, aged Gouda, red onion, sprouts, annnnnnnd Cabernet Sauvignon jelly (a fun find from this past weekend!).

“The UP and Down Under”

The Up and Down Under SandwichTaking a cue from Arman, I started with Vegemite, lettuce, turkey, and avocado…but then I just couldn’t STOP and added with bell pepper, red onion, sprouts, cucumber, AND tomato!

“The Eiffel Tower”

The Eiffel Tower Sandwich

Herbs de Provence mustard lettuce, turkey, cucumbers, red onion, sprouts, homemade pickled beets, bell pepper, avocado, and fresh blueberries + blueberry preserves.

“The Chelsea”

For some other blogger love, I FINALLY got around to trying the combo that Chelsea is always raving about: turkey, sharp cheddar, apple slices, and fig jam all melted to perfection…of course, I HAD to add my beloved sprouts!

“The Fridge Purger”

The Clean Out the Fridge SandwichSunflower seed butter, lettuce, tofu that may or may not have expired in May 😉 , leftover baked sweet potato, shredded zucchini, strawberries, and my homemade raspberry “jam”

And of course, saving the BEST for last…

“The YOLKPORN”

The Yolkporn Sandwich

Raspberry “jam”, lettuce, sprouts, a {second attempt} PERFECTLY fried egg, sharp cheddar cheese, and more jam.

  1. The Yolk Porn has to be my favorite of the bunch. The bread, jam and egg combo sounds fantastic.

I would have to continue along your train of thought with different ethnicities/cultures and go with Asian. For the Asian I’d probably top some bread with Japanese barbecue chicken, extra sauce, white rice, seared broccoli, and lettuce…. Or a beef and broccoli would be amazing!

  2. The chelsea!!!! Without a doubt!!!

  3. The Yolk Porn for me please!! (does that sound whorey now – is whorey even a word?)
I would make a Fondue Sandwich. Actually, I did that before. You know Swiss CHeese Fondue? So you take the cheese before it is melted (it’s like a buttery cheese spread), spread your bread with, add whatever you like (I think of olives, grapes, tomates and avocado) and put it in the oven, so the cheese melts and the bread gets crunchy – someone said pizza -fondue-sandwich??!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Fonudue?! Holy YUM! <- See what I did there...the "heavenly" idea of your sandwich tooooootally negates any whorey labels we might have previously established! Hahaha!

  4. Order up for one Yolkporn please! Yum yum and yum

Also beautiful pics! Ahh good ‘ol ‘wiches- such pretty models.

I would make a sandwich that had egg, avocado, swiss, pesto, sun-dried tomato on a hearty oatmeal bread. I’d call it the Wacky-Veg-Head (first thing that came to mind)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, that sounds like an amazing combo…especially since I’m on such a pesto kick right now! And love the name!

  5. I want the Greek one! They all look great though. I love over stuffed sandwiches, with lots of turkey, veggies and mustard. Sandwiches are funny, my stepdad is from London and if he makes a sandwich it will have 1 thin slice of meat, butter and bread. Talk about boring!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ha! My dad’s favorite sandwich is one slice of bologna and Heinz 57 sauce…interesting combination (hmmm, maybe THAT’S where I get it) but not NEARLY enough layers for this girl! Lol

  6. Eric says:

Those are some tasty looking sammiches!

  7. My favourite sandwich up there is the chelsea for sure! But if I was to create my sandwich right this second, it would probably resemble something like this…

Cheese (always), Coleslaw, lettuce, red onion, Bacon, all on seeded wholewheat or granary! And now I am drooling… oh and did I mention that it’s toasted.

  8. Can I please just pin every single one of these without being judged? 😛 Your food always makes my mouth water. One of my fav food blogs!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you so much, Julie! And by all means, pin to your little heart’s content! Spread the BROCCOLI LOVE! Haha!

  9. Jess says:

What type of bread do you use? All the sandwiches look amazing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’ve been using a few different ones…Pine Valley Organic Multigrain (found at Costco), Food for Life Sprouted Grains and Cinnamon Raisin, and my all-time favorite, a seedy bread I picked up from Publix Bakery…only has EIGHT ingredients and three of those are the seeds! 😀

  10. now I have to go eat lunch, because this post made me hungryyyyy. I’m not sure if I could choose between the ‘chelsea’ and the wine lover. they all look pretty damn good tho!

  11. I actually can’t even remember the last time I had a sandwich…you definitely make me want to whip one up soon! I’d have to try the yolkporn sandwich – because eggs makes everything better, and because that looks like cinnamon raisin bread and that stuff is amazing :-p

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yes it is and YES it was!! Omg, it had been forever since I’d had cinnamon raisin bread…I could KICK myself for not picking up a loaf sooner! But seriously, you need to remedy this no sandwich thing…I think a good ol’ PB&J (maybe with a little yolkporn?) is calling your name! 😉

  12. I’ll have a wine lover, but with blue cheese. And a Yolk Porn, sub smoked gouda and add bacon.

  13. OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGggggggg.

The Greek, German, and Chelsea look AHHMAZING.

I really want a sandwich now. 🙁 You have inspired me! 🙂

  14. WOW! I am not a huge sandwich lover but your sandwiches may convert me!!!

  15. OMG all those sandwiches look to die for! I wish I had one right now! I would do the up and down under or the chelsea!

  16. wow this was awesome and totally doesn’t help that I am starving right now lol. I’m going to go with the yolkporn… love me some yolk-y eggs 🙂

  17. Damn girl! You are impressive. I love the mix of savory and sweet with all the different spreads, the cheeses and the fruit. I don’t even know which one I’d order because I want them all. Although I would add some bacon to the Chelsea to take it over the top. Bacon, cheddar and apple slices are a wonderful combo.

I bow before you and your crazy sandwich skillz.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Dude! I bow before YOU!! Can’t believe I didn’t think to add bacon! Wait a minute…I can’t BELIEVE a vegetarian just suggest that I add bacon!! Hahaha!

  18. Alright, you are now officially declared the queen of sandwiches. Not only are they ALL creative, but they LOOK amazing, too!!

  19. Okay, I hadn’t even reached the bottom of the post yet and already thought I’d tell you to open a restaurant, no, better yet [for me over here at least] delivery service. Mail me the The PCB&J Tornado minus the meat and the Fridge Purger [despite the name ;)]., s’il vous plaît, Madame du brocoli 🙂 Expired tofu is totally fine for me. Whom expiration dates were invented for? Not me, that’s for sure.
Oh, and hey, I’d swap the sandwiches for some of my grandma’s absolutely addictive traditional red cabbage dish and a nice heart loaf of locally made whole-wheat bread.
[All of that said I’m not even a fan of sandwiches – don’t give me the looks – but your creations might convince even me.]

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! I won’t give you the stank eye…just don’t go saying things like “I hate pancakes” or something just as blasphemous! 😉 An international delivery service, eh? And I can get paid in local whole wheat bread? Where do I sign?!

  20. lindsay says:

This is such a fun post! I just love sandwiches and don’t branch out from my “usual” very often. Pinning this!! 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you so much Lindsay! One of my favorite things about sandwiches (and salads and pizzas) is the fact that it’s like a blank canvas…just let your mind run wild! 🙂

  21. I have been seriously admiring your “wiching ways” this past month. Although I am not a huge sandwich lover, your photos may just make me willing to reconsider…

  22. Emily says:

A greek inspired sandwich sounds heavenly right now! I’m on such a feta/olives/cucumbers/hummus/falafel/everything mediterranean kick right now…it’s ridiculous.

This post totally inspires me to kick my sandwich game into high gear! Yeee!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh I hear ya! Ever since I cracked open a huge jar of artichoke hearts (and I mean HUGE…it came from Sam’s Club), I have been Greek-ifying everything! I’ve actually got a few recipes coming up soon so be on the lookout! 😉

  23. The YolkPorn looks devine! Eggs + Cinnamon Raisin Bread = Heaven.

  24. Helene says:

I WANT ONE OF EACH NOW!!!! YOLK PORN RULES!!!!

  25. OMG, I get a sandwich named after me!?! I’ve seriously never been more excited haha. I usually grill mine to make it a panini though – the melty cheese with the fig jam is to die for! 😉

  26. I bow to you, my sandwich temptress.

Those creations…. seriously trademark those bread bandits immediately. Creativity and food porn at its finest. LOVING the last one- especially on raisin bread! and so proud you added the vegemite and avocado duo (and more ;))

  27. holy yum!! And seriously, why don’t I remember to buy sprouts?! They’re one of my favorite things on a veggie sandwich!

  28. I think it’s time for a good old fashioned sandwich 🙂

  29. Oh my god oh my god oh my god. Have I ever told you that sandwiches are my #1 favorite food in the whole entire world? I want to live with you. I’m moving in. See you soon, bye.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you SO much, Brenda! I have to say, I’ve always liked sandwiches, but it wasn’t until this summer, that I became completely addicted! Ha! Thanks so much for stopping by!
