Moonwalking to Portugal

Peoples, up what’s?!

Ok, I know, that miiiiight be a little much for most of you to comprehend on a Monday morning (BAM, alliteration!), baaaaa-ut…well, this weekend got off to such a MARVELOUS start, that I’m pulling out the reverse UNO card! Yep, skip you, back to me, reverse, skip you again, ohhhh look at that, I’m winning! Wait, what was I saying??

*whistles* Awwwwk-ward! *whistles*

Umm, yeah so grab that cup of coffee, or tea, or smoothie, or whatever seems a suitable sip (man, I am ON it today!) and grab some dancing shoes because we’re about to moonwalk our way through the weekend!

Homemade KombuchaIt all ended with me buckling down and finally choosing a flavor for my homemade kombucha! Ha, yeah right! Anyone who knows me, knows that when it comes to decisions, I am NOT the one to look to!

My motto: When in doubt, choose them ALL!

I went with a different flavor for each bottle keeping one plain:
Lavender (hoping to recreate my favorite GT’s blend!), lemon-lime, strawberry-lemonade, strawberry-limeade, strawberry mint, and lemon-mint!

Mom, Tori & Me

But yesterday wasn’t ALL about me…oh no! Tori and I secretly planned another Mission: Mother’s Day Surprise for Broccoli Mama at Work! Flowers, a card, and helping her sign up for Instagram on her NEW SMART PHONE (thanks for one-upping us, DAD!) does a proud mama make! Let’s just pretend that smart phone thing didn’t happen…but it did…because my mom fiiiiiinally joined the 21st century!

Oh, umm…hey mama! 😛

Kori - Sushi

The plan for Mission: MDSFBMAW was well worked out over a plate (or three) of sushi at one of my old favorite restaurants. We shared the Playboy Roll (spicy tuna, krab, and avocado wrapped in soy bean wrap with fried banana on top), the Cowboy Roll (teriyaki steak, avocado, and cream cheese), and the New Ware Roll (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and avocado in a soy bean wrap)!

Tori & Me

Of course, before even leaving the house, we had to take a minute for a sister selfie…truth be told, it took FOUR shots before we were both happy! Lol Honestly, I thought I cleaned up pretty nice given the fact that only a few short hours before I was driving over to the bestie’s looking like this…

Crazy Selfie

That moment when you decide to be a total lazy ass save the environment and let the 60mph wind stand in for your hair dryer! 😉

Oh and didja notice all that strawberry action going on up there with the kombucha?

Say hello to my impulse buy on the way home from yoga Saturday! Or should I say, ‘Say hello to the sweetest, most amazing strawberries, I’ve ever (carefully) put in my mouth!’? Thank you farmers for standing in the intermittent rain showers in order to share your bounty with strawberry-crazed Clarksvillians…or maybe that’s just me! 😉

Friday…wait, what happened on Friday? Oh yeah, THIS:

Southern Cooking - Ribs

And ONLY this…REAL southern cooking…out of a to-go container…from a gas station…that was the best damn NINE BUCKS ever spent…since it fed me is STILL FEEDING ME for multiple meals!

And the reason for the low-key day? Recovering from the night before…

Where apparently, if you put a campfire together

Campfire Spread

With all this shit…

You end up taking 17 pictures of a giant sparkler and waking up with melted marshmallow in stuck to the side of your face! Ok, I may be kidding…about ONE of those!

But seriously, I had the greatest time! I went to a friend of a friend’s house and ended up making a NEW friend! What started out as some simple talk about music (since someone mentioned we liked similar stuff) ended up being a night-long iPod library comparison and now we are MUSIC BUDDIES FOR LIFE! Orrrrr maybe that was the booze talking and I’m actually a total stalker! 😉

Portugal.The Man - Evil Friends

But for SERIOUS!

The band – Portugal. The Man

The album – Evil Friends.

Download it NOW and thank me LATER…as in every day from now until the end of your life! It’s been on repeat for the last three days and I can’t get enough! Just don’t make me pick a favorite song! 😉

What did YOU do this weekend?

When’s the last time you held a sparkler?

  1. I saw Portugal the man a few years ago! They’re amazing 🙂

  2. teach me your kombucha ways… please??

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, girl, you wouldn’t BELIEVE how easy it is! And yes, I’m well aware that everyone says that! I just Googled/watched a half dozen different videos and then followed the steps just how they told me…the hardest part was waiting to see if I did it right! Lol

  3. The last time I held a sparkler?I don’t know…but now I think I need to pick some up for the long weekend coming up…

  4. Missy says:

That is the prettiest looking Kombucha I have ever seen.

I’ve never seen that Lavender GTs before! The hunt is ON.
The hazards of blog-stalking… spying something on a blog is pretty much spending money right then and there. You KNOW as soon as you locate it you must get one. Or three. (0:

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh lord, I know those hazards ALL too well…and so do my near-busting pantry shelves! Hahaha…ugh! 😉

  5. Thanks for introducing me to some new music—been looking for something to break me out of a jag.

    Your kombucha is so pretty!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

You’re welcome, Jess! I love discovering new music so I get that much more excited when I can pass along the favor! I’m actually thinking about putting together a little music post soon with some favorites that I’ve found over the last few weeks!

  6. Listening now!

That natueral haridryer pic cracks me up – I LOVE IT!! And you and your sister and Mom look just so beautiful – how can it be that she is your MOM? She looks like the third sister!!

Booze talk is best. Laura and me had some every night last week, LOL.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, thank you, my sweet friend! I will be SURE that Broccoli Mama sees this comment…I keep telling her she looks so young but she never believes me!

And yeah, I’m still a little upset that I didn’t have time to figure out how to cram myself into one of Laura’s suitcases before she left! *pouty face*

  7. Girl, this post is like one giant sparkle. I’m glad to see you’ve gotten your sassy groove back. Being able to whip your hair around doesn’t hurt either. Nor does the first, fresh farmers market berries of the season. To hell with that allergy and the doctor who prescribed 12 pounds of meds to deal with it. You shall have to introduce me to this evil Portugal Man. He sounds appealing.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, right? And this was just from a random roadside stand! The actual farmers’ market opens TODAY!! As in FOUR HOURS FROM NOW! I may be…you know, just a little excited about that! 😉 And seriously, this album…STILL on repeat…though I will say I’m finally moving on to some of their other stuff, but I’m loving it ALL!

      • SQUEAL! Ok, now I’m excited for you. You better buy all the things. But remember you’re going to be at Blend soon so only buy the things you’ll eat in time. If not, just bring them to Blend.

        • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh girl! I was actually trying to hold myself back and I still ended up spending sixty bucks! And here I am, two days before another market day, and I still have half of what I bought! Looks like I’m gonna be eating some Hugh Jass salads today and tomorrow! Lol! But who cares about all that because I get to see you in ONE WEEK!!!!! Ohmaaaaaaagawwwwwwd!

  8. Eric says:

    Fun weekend!

  9. This looks like an awesome weekend!!!

  10. Ooh good call on making multiple flavours! Which one do you like best? 😀

This weekend I went out for Italian with JZ and demolished the most amazing prosciutto pizza, checked out a new farmers market, and went out for a Mothers Day brunch with my parents and grandparents. It went by way too fast, like weekends always do. 😛

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Well how about I JUST made a proscuitto pizza at home yesterday…with FETA too! It was ahhhhhh-mazing to say the least!

I’d have to say the lavender was my favorite one…actually, the ONLY flavor I really liked. Guess it’s back to “the books” this weekend for kombucha flavoring round TWO!

  11. Tina Muir says:

Yay! Found your blog! And I love it 🙂 I am a big fan of Kombucha right now, but have not seen the lavendar one! Sounds great! I am glad you posted a sushi pic, as that is what I am having tonight, cant wait!!! Have a wonderful day! I miss sparklers!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you, Tina! I’m so glad you found me! If you have a Whole Foods near you, that’s actually the ONLY place I’ve been able to find the lavender flavor…it’s subtle, but SO good! And we need to get you some sparklers…or at least a couple of handfuls of glitter…which for me, helps feed the need for sparkly things just as much! 😉

  13. You need to be hired for those sappy commercials with wind blown hair. Like your hair, I am blown away by the quality of that gas station meal. The best gas station meal you’d get here is a can of tuna and a stomach bug.

Confession- I’ve always had a fear of those sparklers and even hid at birthday parties as a kid if anyone had them on a birthday cake!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I have to say, I was beyond surprised/impressed with this meal…guess that’s why they had a line almost out the door! Haha!

Note to self: Take sparklers OFF Arman’s surprise birthday cake! 😯

  14. Your mom looks so freakin’ young. What a gorgeous group of ladies!

It’s been a while since I’ve played with fire… At least in the literal sense ;). Remind me to get my hands on a sparkler ASAP.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, thanks, love! And I’ll be SURE to pass that little compliment along to my mom! I keep telling her…
