Things I’m Loving This Christmas
Hello my little elves!
Only 3 more days until Christmas! Is everyone finished with their shopping?
Well guess what! I AM!
Ha! How’s that for the world’s worst procrastinator? In less than an hour and a half, I had presents for everyone on my list…and a few extra just for me! ๐
I’ve been excited about so many things this week (besides my record-breaking Christmas dash), that I figured it was about time for a ย “Thursday Things” post…so, in no particular order, I present to you:
Thingsย I‘m Loving this Christmas!
Decking the halls my scrubs and breaking out the Christmas accessories!
I’ll have you know I drove my co-workers crazy while flicking my jingle bells all day long.
Festive DIY manicures
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while but hadn’t been able to track down a good green color until just the other day…
Wet ‘n Wild’s SaGreena the Teenage Witch and Essie’s Jag-u-are
I’ve gotten so many compliments! ๐
Lights, lights, and more lights!
I’ve actually driven out of my way a handful of times this week, just to see this one house…the picture really doesn’t do it justice…each and every aspect of the architecture is outlined in lights making it look like a little gingerbread village!
I would LOVE to hang lights on my house, but the weather never seemed to act right whenever I found the courage to actually step foot on my roof…I do not have a fear of heights…I have a fear of falling…and I do that rather well.
Perhaps you’ve seen the shirt that I was the inspiration for?

Feeling the Love
I can honestly say that even though we’ve been pretty busy at the hospital this week (everyone trying to get all their medical needs taken care of before the end of the year aka “We’ve met our deductible honey, looks like we can finally take Timmy to the hospital for his broken leg”), it’s been a week of good laughs, Christmas spirit, and well, you already know about the cookies! ๐
Just this morning, I had the sweetest little old lady in for a CAT scan. She was extremely nervous since she had no idea what to expect. I did my best to help ease her worries and by the end of the procedure, she was smiling and laughing saying, “I can’t believe I thought you were going to stick needles in my head!”
On the way back out to the front lobby, she turned to me and said, “Honey, I hope you have a very Merry Christmas” and gave me one of those characteristic grandmotherly hugs…with the back rub and everything! I went back to the department and told the guys I wanted to put her in my pocket!
The Saga of Good vs. Evil
Evil…
Meet your destiny!
If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear I was sweating sprinkles…”swinkling”?
I have not missed a single workout ALL week…I even got up this morning for a run and went back to the gym after work for Bodypump!
Woo hoo!
Oh and just so you know, I’ve been cookie free for 2 whole days now…I honestly feel like a different person (you know, the kind of person that doesn’t start twitching at the mere mention of “dough” or “bark”). Of course, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without this little healthified treat…

So good, that it’s appeared more than once this week!
Oh and obviously, there’s one more thing left to mention…
My love for holiday-themed dishes!
Look, it matches my nails! ๐
We’ll just ignore the fact that this is one of like 6 or 7 other festive mugs that I keep finding in a box labeled “Christmas miscellaneous”…bought most of them last year after the holidays and forgot all about them…so it’s like Christmas each morning…because of course I’ve been drinking out of a different one every day…duh!
What are you loving this Christmas?
Do you buy gifts for yourself for Christmas?
I blame my sister…she’s so much like me that anything I get for her I want too! haha!
The Cookie Conundrum
What’s up guys?
Looks like it’s time for another edition of What I Ate Wednesday hosted by the ever talented Jenn of Peas & Crayons. Be sure to stop by P&C and show some love and support for all of her hard work getting this shindig up each week…especially with the stress of the holiday season!
Speaking of the holiday season, I hinted at this in yesterday’s post, but I’m totally leveling with you today…
My name is Heather and I’m addicted to Christmas cookies.
[source]
I am an equal opportunity addict as well…discriminating not against any cookie the season may offer, be it chewy, crunchy, layered, or sugar coated….hell, I don’t even have to be hungry!
But before I get too ahead of myself, allow me to show you how my morning started:
Plain Greek yogurt mixed with a little peanut flour, Kashi Golden Goodness, fresh organic raspberries and an un-pictured cup of black coffee…healthy enough right?
If only I had known what awaited me once I got to work…
The above is a picture of a tray of cookies that my co-worker brought in on Monday. Each and every year his wife sends him to work with this plate of sugar and I always vow that the next year I will be more selective and not overdo it.
And each and every year, I fail….miserably.
It always starts out innocently enough.
“I’ll just try one cookie…”
“Oh wow, that was good…maybe I’ll have just one more…”
Then suddenly I lose all conception of life’s simplest tasks (stressing that on COUNTING) and end up like that person standing in a 15 items or less line with many many more than 15 items…all the while oblivious to the rest of the world.
Seriously guys, I think I ate almost half the tray by myself! ๐
I had grand plans for lunch. There was going to be salad, a steamed sweet potato drizzled with cashew butter, and toasty bread…
I somehow managed to find room for one of those things…and the thought of nut butter at the time was nauseating so I went with my trusty BBQ seasoning.
For the rest of the afternoon, I guzzled water and told myself
“NO MORE COOKIES!”
Though before heading out at the end of the day, I ended up eating at least 3 more!
Damn you, Sugar Gods!
Needless to say, I drove straight to the gym after work:
And well, it turns out, cookies may be the next experiment in carb loading:
BAAAAAAM!
After my run, I continued to guzzle water and actually didn’t get hungry until a few hours later.
Then I realized what I was craving and I wasn’t at all surprised…
Massaged kale salad (Bragg’s liquid aminos, dijon mustard, nutritional yeast, and a little water) topped with orange bell pepper and mushrooms
And it totally hit the spot…
For an hour.
Then, I found myself in the kitchen scraping down the sides of this:
Turns out, I have a sixth sense for finding cookies in my cookie-less house!
And with that, I’ve decided that I need an intervention…
Either that, or I’m going to reserve myself to eating only stale bread and unsweetened applesauce for the rest of the year. I may have got a great run time out of this, but it doesn’t change the fact that I feel like gum stuck to the bottom of a sneaker!
Help!
How do you get off the cookie train once you’ve jumped on for the season?
Anybody know if they’ve developed sucrose patches yet?…you know, like nicotine patches only for quitting sugar! ๐
