Five a Day? I’ve Got This Thing In The Bag!

So, I now know from all your comments that I’m not a total weirdo for liking almond milk straight up, but now there is a new question: Am I the only one that can eat her weight in fruits and veggies over the course of a day?? Below we have the day’s eats:

6:00am: 1/2 a PB Chocolate Chip Larabar for my pre-work out snack

First time trying this flavor. Not really a fan. I think it reminds me of an old protein shake I used to drink all the time that I got sick of. 🙁

8:30am: Veggie Omelet, Yogurt Fruit Salad, and a steamy cup of "H" Joe!

Omelet Insides: Mushrooms, sweet peppers, onion, tomatoes, spinach, nooch
Omelet Outsides: Salsa and avocado

Yogurt Fruit Salad: 1/2 cup 0% Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup blackberries, 1/4 cup raspberries, and 1 mandarin orange, sprinkled with unsweetened coconut shreds and cha-cha-chia seeds! 😉

12:30pm: Veggie Burger Topped Salad

Bowl ‘O Salad: Spinach, mushrooms, mini sweet peppers, pea sprouts, carrots, red onion, Sunshine BBQ burger (crumbled), bread ‘n buttah pickles (my fave), and avocado.

5:00pm: Honeycrisp apple & 1/2 pack of PB

8:30pm: Antipasta on a bed of Spinach

Antipasta: Sauteed eggplant, onion, sweet pepper, artichoke hearts, and tomatoes
Toppings: Parmesan cheese, pine nuts, capers, and chopped fresh basil

Right after I inhaled this bowl of goodness, I ate the rest of the 1/2 of kabocha squash (not pictured) that I got over the weekend! No more kabocha! Sad day! 🙁

Funny, it looks like I’m a vegetarian doesn’t it? This is actually a typical day of eats for me only bump up the veggie cravings by like 10! I just can’t seem to get my fill this week! I’m already 2/3’s of the way through the 3 pound container of spinach that I bought on Saturday!

At this rate, I may wake up in the morning to find I have leaves instead of hands and roots for legs! Hmm, hope I don’t end up green! Wow, I just imagined myself as a human vegetable and the first thing I’m concerned with is my complexion?! Lol!

How do you do on getting in your fruits and veggies? Are you a bit of an “overachiever” like me or do you struggle to get your 5 a day?

it is weird, some days i will have no problem getting the fruit and veg in, other days i will go ALL day without a single one!

  2. Overachiever all the way =) I usually clock in at 2-3 servings of fruit and 5-8 of veggies. Maybe more! =)

    • Awesome! I used to eat a lot more fruits and hardly any veggies, but since I’ve been trying so many new veggies, I’ve been wanting to eat the ones I love everyday!

      • Yay! Good goal – keep it up! =) I used to hate fruit! weird right?! Ooh and the dryer balls are only noisy with a small load, but not as loud as tennis shoes. I dont notice them after the first minute =)

        xo

        • I’ve always loved fruit, but totally used to hate all vegetables! I was a seriously picky eater growing up though you wouldn’t think it at all by what I eat now! Good to know about the dryer balls. I definitely will be getting some of those soon! Such a money saver!

  3. Oh man, I put the fruits and veggies away like nobody’s business! This morning – green smoothie with spinach and banana. Lunch – More like several small meals throughout the afternoon, but one of which consisted of a huge bowl of brussels sprouts and avocado… also an apple and 3(!) clementines. Dinner was an awesome thrown together meal with mushrooms, frozen veggies, and chickpeas simmered with some vindaloo sauce and served over leftover mashed potatoes from the other day! Chock full of fruit and veggie goodness!

    • Mmm, I love thrown together type dinners! Your’s sound great! And what is it about those little orange cuties?? I have already gone through half of my 5 pound bag of mandarin oranges since Saturday! I think its because they’re so simple to eat: a breeze to peel and no seeds! A lazy girl’s dream fruit!

  4. I am a totalll overacheiver! Its never enough for me! Just load me on the veggie wagon!
    Your yogurtt salad looks yummy!!

    • Alright! You can have the seat next to me between the pumpkin and the broccoli! And the yogurt fruit salad was definitely a winner! I was just throwing random stuff in until I had a good combo of fruit and yogurt, but it turned out to be the best fruit salad ever!

  5. I used to be really good about eating a ton of veggies, but lately I’ve been struggling. You make it look easy! I have no problem eating entire squashes, though 🙂

  6. oh wow that looks great! i usually have maybe 1 of them during the day and about 4 at dinner time! ahaha LOTs of veggies!

I never have trouble getting my fruits and veggies in. If a fruit is sitting idle or unclaimed in the fridge or the fruit bowl, it is mine!

If you are a fruit and yogurt person, I would suggest adding freshly diced pineapples to any yogurt, greek or plain with sugar/agave/stevia. It is nothing short of stellar!

I am the same way, some days all I want are fruits and veggies, others not so much. Thats when I bust out my amazing grass supplement. hehe! I love the H mug. I have one with L on it.
Oh I tagged you in my last post, passing along the fun friend!

  9. It really depends. In the summer I have no problem getting in tons of fruits and veggies because I crave them so much. But in the winter I crave comfort foods so getting in my veggies means that I have to cook with them or have a salad with each meal. I’ve been bad about it in the past, but much better this year. 🙂

Wow, I think I would eat everything in your menu, I am a GF Veg, and aside from the eggs which I don’t do well with, I am in love with all your choices.

    • Thank you! I am an occasional meat eater, but I think it’s funny that there are so many more choices when it comes to vegetables than there is with meat dishes. Most days, I don’t even realized that I’ve gone meat-less until I stop to think about it!

  11. Kayla says:

Your omelet looks absolutely beautiful! Haha!

I usually get enough fruit, still working on getting in all those veggies!

    • Thank you! I used to be so afraid of making omelets and I went through many a failed flip attempt, but now I’ve “mastered the art” and love making them! I always stuff them to the brim with veggies!

  12. dude I eat SO many veggies. I suppose if there is something to eat TONS of, it’s veggies 🙂

I get those bowls of chopped veggies from TJ’s and they’re so crunchy and delish. I just top it with hummus and call it lunch. Sooo what if it’s like 4 cups of veggies?? 🙂
