These Are My Confessions

Hey foodies! Hope everyone enjoyed the little surprise at the bottom of yesterday’s post! Anyone else ever tried the Saltine Challenge? If you haven’t, I definitely recommend going with the unsalted tops…I think it might have helped! But ya know, that does pose a VERY interesting question: how can an unsalted cracker be referred to as a saltine? Shouldn’t it be un-saltine or a just tine? I’ll leave that for you to ponder! 😉

Forgive my lack of modesty, but I must say that my breakfast this morning was a beauty!

Siggi’s Vanilla Icelandic Yogurt, 1 medium banana, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup Kashi Go Lean, handful of butter toffee almonds, and a sprinkle of ch-ch-ch-chias!

L-O, L-O, L-O, L-O-V-E!

Turns out that breakfast was the first AND last beautiful meal of the day!

So as not to totally ruin my reputation when it comes to good-looking food and do a regular post, howabout a few confessions for tonight?

Random Confessions of a Broccoli Kisser:

1. Sometimes my food just ain’t purdy! Tonight’s dinner was a prime example! Close your eyes (No, not yet! You have to finish reading this sentence first!) and use your imagination on this one: 1/2 cup cooked quinoa mixed with a 1/2 cup steamed edamame, topped with HEAB’s cocoa roasted sweet potatoes, warm cinnamon apples, a few raisins, all topped with a drizzle of Justin’s maple almond butter!

Now doesn’t that sound a whole lot better than this looks??

Let me just say that the buttery taste of edamame rocks this girl’s world!

2. I intentionally put too much milk in my cereal bowl. That way I have an excuse to add more cereal to the bowl after the first serving is gone! Can’t waste the milk, right?

3. I never rinse my quinoa before cooking. Not too ashamed to say I’m just plain lazy…but hey, I don’t taste the difference!

3. Hello, my name is Heather and I am addicted to Twitter! I never thought in a MILLION years that I would “tweet” or even know how to “tweet” for that matter. Now, I find myself making special bathroom breaks at work just to check my Twitter! Wait, that sounded kinda dirty! 😉

4. Dressing up makes me feel pretty! And for this I must take pictures of myself!

I love this dress I found when I was supposed to be shopping for a New Year’s Eve outfit! Hey, it was on sale!!

5. Speaking of clothes…my clothes hangers must ALWAYS point to the left! Call it OCD, but whenever I hang my clothes up, if the hook of the hanger doesn’t point left when the piece of clothing is facing me, then I have to take it off the hanger and turn it around!

6. I don’t just take pictures of my food! And believe it or not, this pic was taken with my point and shoot!

7. I am extremely sensitive to chamomile tea! I started drinking a mug at the beginning of this post, and now I can barely focus on the screen! I’m such a lightweight! Haha!

And I totally just added that last one so that I could have 7 confessions! Love my lucky number 7! Oh and since titling this post I’ve been singing that Usher song in my head!

Got a random confession of your own? Please, entertain me!

Confession: #1. I have been singing that song in my head when I saw the name of your blog! and #2. We are more alike than we thought….7 is my lucky number along with 11, I have to have my clothes face the same way as well, and I am super sensitive to foods and teas.

PS…love that yogurt too….. I bought some at Publix the other day!

  2. Heather, you are absolutely GORGEOUS!!! You look fantastic in that dress! 😀 I <3 belts at the waist. 🙂

You food is making me hungry!!! 🙂

    xoxo
    Kathleen

  3. Your yogurt looks tasty! I haven’t tried siggi’s before. I usually just get Fage. Does it have a similar taste to greek yogurt?

    -Katie

    • Thanks for your comment Katie! The creaminess and thickness of Siggi’s is pretty similar to Greek yogurt, almost spot on, but not as thick as Fage. I love Fage! It’s one of my faves!

  4. 1. I think that bowl looks gorgeous, and I would eat it right up.

    2. I don’t rinse my quinoa either. Well, most of the time anyway.

    3. I also put extra milk in the bowl for a second helping of cereal!

    4. I love that dress. But I love your face more. <3

  5. Uh so turns out you’re gorgeous? Fun fact. 🙂 i have yet to try siggis but I totally want to… how does it differ from greek yogurt?

    • Haha! You’re so sweet Nicole! I’m practically blushing here! 🙂

Siggi’s is VERY close to Greek yogurt…not quite as thick but definitely not as thin as regular yogurt. It’s strained several times in processing so it has a high protein content like Greek yogurt and the flavors are excellent! So far I’ve tried the plain, vanilla, and pomegranate passion fruit and they were all amazing!

  6. Confession: I’m actually a lightweight. In terms of alcohol. And tonight I went out for the first time in over a month and I might be kind of tipsy (Please don’t judge? lol).

But I just actually read this all the way through and ironically I just had to refill my cereal bowl coz there was too much milk 😉 heehee great minds think alike!

sometimes my ugliest looking food tastes the best. No shame! oh and I hate rinsing quinoa. Its too hard! haha.
    You look gorgeous Heather!

    • Thank you Linds!

Much too hard to rinse quinoa, especially when all those little buggers get stuck in the strainer! Erg! I have to agree that most of my best tasting “throw together bowls” aren’t the least bit photogenic! I like to think of them as the “diamond in the rough”! Haha!

  8. HAAHAHH i dont rinse quinoa either? am i meant to??.. uh oh

are you kidding that still looks delicious!! that is NOT an ugly photo at all!!
    confession: I eat 3 bananas with pb a day……

    • Yeah, SUPPOSEDLY they say that it will taste bitter if you don’t…whateves, I don’t taste a difference!

3 nanners?! Heck yeah! I’m gonna start calling you Chiquita!

  9. I’m the same way with my clothes hangers. Totally OCD in some ways – I’ll admit it. I figure someone in this house needs to be or it would be a complete chaotic mess!

Breakfast was beautiful Heather as are you. 🙂 Also, I thought your dinner looked quite lovely, and if it makes you feel any better, I forget to rinse my quinoa all the time. I’ve been trying to soak my grains lately, but that requires advanced planning, and sometimes I just don’t know if I’ll even want quinoa 24 hours from now, you know? Also, I don’t always wash my fruit and veggies. I’m lazy that way.

Looking forward to lunch tomorrow. I meant to tell you, it’s the 12th Ave location (in the Gulch). The Turnip Truck on the East side doesn’t have a hot/cold bar.

    • I totally agree! OCD for me is what keeps my place looking good! Oh my gosh, I totally forget to wash my fruits and veggies! That’s why I’m always glad that the spinach I buy is tripled washed…I’m so lazy! I figure, God made dirt and dirt don’t hurt, right? haha

Thanks for letting me know about the location. I was going to text you to ask! Can’t wait to see ya and try some of that delish food!

  10. You are so funny. I don’t wash my quinoa either. I usually end up losing half of them down the drain and I just don’t see the difference in the taste.

Dinner actually sounds good and it doesn’t look bad to me! I LOOOOVE edamame! Love those little green treasures.

See you on Twitter, I have Tweetdeck so it’s gotten worse. I’ve been pretty productive this week considering…

Your breakfast is making me hungry as I haven’t even eaten yet so I need to find a way to recreate this. I’m behind in my reading so I’m curious about the ‘tine challenge! I hope you are having a good weekend, my dear!

  11. I HATE rinsing quinoa! I end up loosing half the little buggers when I do. SO, sometimes I skip the rinsing, too. When I can I try to buy the no-rinse required kind to solve this. And your dinner concoction actually looks amazing! 🙂

    • Thank you, the close up shot was the only one that didn’t look like total poo! Haha! They make no rinse quinoa? I didn’t know that. I usually get mine from the bulk section at WF’s.

  12. Sere says:

I do the same thing with milk! And I didn’t know that was necessary to rinse the Quinoa, ooppss

  13. i do the same thing with milk and cereal! love to have too much!

and you have gorgeous hair…love the color.

    • Thank you Lisa. I think it looks really red in that pic, but it’s really a mix of red, blonde, and light brown…I’m a bit of a calico! 😉

How are you liking your new place?

  14. Lee says:

Hmm, let’s see: I don’t rinse my quinoa either, I take naps every weekend, I don’t change my sheets as often as I should. I could go on and on..

  15. Mowenackie says:

I don’t rinse my quinoa, either! I think the boxed kind is pre-rinsed. Now for my random confession. Hm. Okay, how about this: My favorite TV show of all time is M*A*S*H. I own all 11 seasons on DVD and I watch it frequently.

I know, I’m 20 years behind the times. But that’s how I roll.

    • Haha! I love Mash! It’s funny, when I was younger, I would stay up late and watch back to back episodes of the Golden Girls before bed, but then when Mash came on afterwards, I always turned it off thinking it was some kind of boring guy show! I didn’t see my first episode until a few years ago! Can’t believe I missed out for so long!

  16. Jenny says:

I loved hearing your confessions! My food isn’t pretty most of the time either, which is why my dinners are hardly ever pictured lol And where did you get those toffee almonds? I want! 😀

  17. paijery says:

    1. You are goooorgeous!! Love the dress!
    2. Your pictures are ridic. Your “ugly” photo is better than my best photo!
    3. I don’t wash my quinoa eitherrr!
    4. My hangers must always point to the left too! Woo OCD!!

  18. What are you talking about?! Your dinner sounds AND looks good! Also, I do the same with my cereal- although lately my favorite way to enjoy it has been straight out of the box with my hand 🙂

  19. The pic of you in the dress is amazing! You are one smokin lady 🙂

Thanks for all the wonderful comments you left me tonite…they just kept pouring in…thank you!

As for the same detangler, very cool.

A heab meetup that you mentioned?! Beyond jealz, i wanna meet both of you!!

And her sweet taters…after you left me that comment the other day about her cocoa roasted taters i stalked her site and found them. Amazing.

    Need to make them.

    🙂

  20. spabettie says:

I think that bowl looks pretty!! I do know what you mean, though… some of the worst LOOKING food tastes the best… I do love when my food is bright and vibrant, though.

ha… I’m that way with hangers too. 🙂 and I only SOMETIMES wash my quinoa.

  21. Looove that dress! So cute!

  22. carlee says:

You look SOOOOO pretty in that dress! I’m a wee but jealous! Ok a lot!!!

You are simply gorgeous! Nugh said!
