Hey guys! Hope you are all having a fantastic night. I loved reading all of your ideas for your own homemade peanut butters! I can’t wait to try out some of your combos!
Also, the recipe page got a majorly needed update last night. Feel free to take a gander! ๐
So I’m sure you’re looking at the title of this post and thinking…huma-wha?!
Please, let me enlighten you. You see, there once was a collection of white beans and chickpeas that didn’t make the final cut in the dessert hummus auditions. All those little beans dreamt that someday they would become a smooth and creamy hummus…and (on the other side of the refrigerator) there lived a container of tomato puree that envisioned a future as a perfectly seasoned marinara sauce.
*Insert lightbulb!*
I introduce to you huminara (hummus + marinara) sauce!
Huminara Sauce:
- 1/2 cup white kidney beans
- 1/2 cup chickpeas
- 1/2 cup tomato puree
- 1/2 tablespoon Italian seasoning {edited, originally typed 1 tablespoon…oops!}
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- salt to taste
1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until creamy.
2. Enjoy as a pasta sauce, pizza sauce, dip for bread sticks, or on a spoon!
I made this from scratch and it was super easy, but for all my Sandra Lee lovers out there, you could always use pre-made hummus and marinara sauce. Which would be helpful if you do not own a food processor. Also, I think the addition of fresh basil would take this to a whole new level!
So what does one do with such a fabuloso creation? You make spaghetti of course!
Whole wheat linguine topped with” huminara” and freshly grated parmesan cheese served with a side of steamed broccoli sprinkled with Garlic Gold nuggets.
And FYI, it reheats very well…I had this for my lunch today and it was just as tasty as the day I made it!
Well, I’m off to finish up my Dexter oogling watching so I can get it back to Netflix before the craziness of the move sets in! 3 more days! Ahhhh!
What’s your favorite Italian dish?
I love manicotti…well, anything stuffed with mounds of cheese is alright in my book! ย ๐
Looks good!
Favorite Italian Dish?
So hard! Anything Mr. Fish or Grandma Fish makes! ๐ Although, cheese filled ravioli would have to be my number one. ๐
Spinach stuffed shells are one of my favs…. hmmmm and veggie pesto pasta too! ahhh i want!
your huminara sauce sounds so fun! I’ve got to try this one out! =) love it!
You copy- cat
Hehe, I’m totally kidding.
That’s what makes the blogging world go ’round, huh? ๐
Dude! Have you made this? I had no idea!
No, haha. I’ve made something like it though. I recently shared an idea for nooch+ hummus sauce. Nothing quite as fancy- smacy as yours, though!
Looks delicious!
Genius! This looks so good. A great way to get some hidden protein into spaghetti, too.
P.S. Tried your broccoli cheese sauce tonight and loved it!! ๐
I know, I just saw your post! So glad you liked it!
Looks and sounds great!! I have made humus without a food processor before, so I can say that it IS possible ๐ But it would certainly come in handy here.
Huminara, what an amazing idea!! I’m 100% Italian and love me some marinara sauce. I love hummas too, so I’m sure I would lover huminara too! Thanks for such a great idea!
OMG I LOVE THIS– making this when i run out of my hummus batch! cant wait!
Perfect combination! You could even stuff it in your manicotti! YUM!
Brillant!! Sarena, my dear…you are in fact a genius!
italian is pretty much my least fave cuisine. however, its pretty safe to say that an exception would be very necessary for noodles with hummus.
It’s probably my least favorite as well…point me in the direction of the nearest Mexican dish!
I wouldn’t doubt you’d turn down a dish with hummus in it! ๐ Isn’t that your lifeblood? I mean, besides Star-take-your-bux?
Love the name Huminara – it’s cute. ๐ The sauce sounds amazing as well!
How can you make everything look so dang delicious?!
Magic! What’s your address? I’ll be sure to send you some magic dust! ๐
Awesome!

I will eat any kind of Italian food! So much cheese and carbs… favorite foods right there ๐
Yum.
I don’t know if this is exactly Italian, but I love mussels.
AH! this looks awesome! I go through phases where i crave hummus, i’m currently NOT but maybe this will bring it all back in full swing.. with bread sticks of course ๐
My favorite Itallian dish is definitely Gellato! ๐

Ohhhh, good one! I do love me some creamy gelato!
Hummus and tomato paste is one of my favorite quick pasta sauce combinations, but I’ve never made all the components from scratch! Pure awesomeness, lady! xo
Made this tonight! It was really good, but a little too much Italian seasoning for me and I ended up adding some olive oil!
I’m for sure going to make it again, just a little less italian seasoning!!
Oh my goodness, I just checked the post and I totally didn’t mean to type a whole tablespoon! I just edited it to 1/2!! So sorry I’m a ditz! ๐
