Eighteen Dollars

Hey everybody! I hope you guys are having a marvelous weekend! As I sit here typing this post, it is POURING down with rain outside…and I’m convinced it has nothing to do with precipitation buildup and everything to do with the fact that I took my car to the car wash today.

Oh, the sacrifices I make for our little town of Clarksville!

BEFORE the Persians and Poodles started falling from the sky, it was actually a really nice day. Following my summertime Saturday ritual, I got up early this morning and met my friends at the local farmer’s market. I didn’t really need much. I still have plenty of veggies leftover from last week’s market trip since I’ve been doing a lot of eating out this past week (sacrifices made to have a social life again…geez, at this rate, I’ll be a martyr before Labor Day!).

That being said, I’m not quite sure how I managed to spend my last eighteen dollars before I made it back to my car! Though, I have a few ideas…

It all started with the tempting loaves of bread from the Evawood Bakery booth.

I couldn’t help myself when I saw a new-to-me flavor…Cranberry-Pecan Bread!
C’mon, HOW could I walk away from THAT?!

And as with all the other breads I’ve tried from Evawood, this one did NOT disappoint!

Mysteriously, a soft, doughy, perfectly-glazed cinnamon roll found it’s way into my bag along with the bread.

Then, I ended up haggling my way into nearly 3 POUNDS of okra for $9

Anyone up for some gumbo?? πŸ˜‰

And I got him to throw in a tomato as well!

Don’t mess with the veggie loving bargainista! πŸ˜‰

I also picked up a cantaloupe the size of a small child.

Trust me…it’s even bigger than it looks! (that’s what sheΒ he said??)

And lastly,

because I’m easily amused…

because I’m a curious kind of foodie…

because I just can’t say no to a cute little melon…

I paid a buck for an “apple melon”

Supposedly, you eat it rind and all just like an apple…haven’t tried it yet, but we’ll see!

What I didn’t wait to try was that big doughy cinnamon roll!

Plain non-fat Greek yogurt, 1/2 a crumbled cinnamon roll, dried cranberries and toasted pecans (and you’re surprised I bought the bread??)

And for lunch?

Cranberry-Pecan bread topped with mashed avocado, banana half moons, local honey, and a dash of cinnamon

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Hit.tha.spot!

What did you do today?

Have you ever tried an “apple melon”?

Oh gosh that oatmeal and that sandwich looks so good! I definitely didn’t have any meals that looked that good today lol.
I DID have some pancakes post-workout though that were delicious πŸ™‚ & spent hours at the pool today swimming and getting my tan on with my momma.

Well, oddly enough I met my friends also at the farmers market (hehe), and bought all of the above…give or take a few items. The cinnamon roll was awesome! I swear she puts crack in them!!
P.S.–> I love our Saturday morning rituals!!!

  3. Sounds like you scored some amazing food finds!

My Saturday was out of the norm because I’m on vacation! I hiked up to a waterfall, went to a natural creek, and rode my bike. It was a lot of fun, but also pretty tiring.

I’ve never tried an apple melon, but I’m so curious now. Can’t wait to hear what you think.

  4. It’s way too easy for me to spend money like it’s nothing at the farmer’s market. So much yummy food and produce + hefty pricetag + my inability to say “no” to the friendly farmers and yummy food = trouble for this girl πŸ˜› That said – it’s always well worth it! That bread looks SO good.

I’ve never tried an apple melon…I’ve never even heard of an apple melon!! Do let us in on how it tastes πŸ™‚

let me know how the apple melon is! I am so easily amused.

    p.s.
one of my good friends just moved to Nashville for L.A. She is AWESOME! you have to meet her.

  6. I haven’t had a cinnamon roll in years. I need to change that.

    I.need.that.cinnamon roll.
Looks so gooooooooooooooooooood! Was it extra gooey in the middle?!! That is the best part!

  8. Hahahaha I went to the Farmers Market yesterday and God help us if we ever went together…I’m pretty sure we’d spend WAY too much money on curiosities. I ended up buying a ton of baby vegetables (including teeny tiny SWEET POTATOES!) and a watermelon that was so ugly I felt bad for it…

I think if you DIDN’T buy the bread I would have been really really really worried about your sanity πŸ˜‰

Can’t say that I’ve ever tried (nor heard of!) and apple melon. I’m actually not a huge fan of melons (aside from the water variety) so I have a feeling I probably wouldn’t love it. I’ll take my apples pre-crossbreeding please πŸ™‚

  10. I bought red okra yesterday. I’ve never even seen that before. I hate okra, but Tony loves it and wanted to try it. I’ve never heard of an apple melon before, but I can’t wait to see what you think. I also bought a cantaloup the size of a small child or a large baby and it is delicious! Ya gotta love the farmer’s market! I hope you have a great Sunday and thank you for washing your car! We definitely needed the rain here!

  11. It’s so hard to resist food from the farmer’s market! Even if I just bought produce at the grocery store, I’ll still stock up at more from the market because freshly picked local fruits and veggies always taste SO much better!

I’ve never even heard of that melon before. I’m curious to hear what it tastes like!

  12. Ahhh the joys of food shopping!!! Never heard of an apple melon…hmmm….I’d like to try one, though!

  13. That apple melon looks so cool! I totally want to see what it looks like inside too πŸ˜€ Amazing how fast money goes at farmers markets eh? It’s all so good, how can I pass it up! I remember buying so much that I couldn’t carry it all(plus my daughter, when she couldn’t walk yet). Kind of embarrassing when people have to help you to your car with all your stuff, hah!
That bread sounds amazing. I hope it cools down so I can start making bread again! πŸ˜€
