Chucking My Way to the Pacific

Hello my beautiful people! How are you? Good I hope! Just thought I’d pop in for a quick post and borrow HEAB’s idea of Chuck Taylor Tuesday

I just had to share a few shots from Emilia’s and my trip to Pleasure Point the other day. Plus, it was…

My first time seeing the Pacific Ocean!

First, we made our way down the strip to the ocean front…

We spotted some surfers hoping to catch a wave…

While silently rooting them on…

Until one finally came!

One day, I’ll give it a go myself (it’s definitely on the bucket list)…though I’d prefer it to be in water that is above freezing! 😉

We spotted sailboats in the distance…

Then, in the words of Julia Roberts,
we “copped a squat” and just watched the waves come in…

While I sipped on some perfectly roasted local coffee.

If you ever find yourself in Santa Cruz and in the mood for a good cup of Joe, I definitely recommend stopping at Verve!

And after our relaxing trip walking around downtown and enjoying the view, Emilia and I put together a delicious dinner…

Sauteed kale with onions & garlic, roasted SWEET corn, and barbecue tempeh

With my new favorite BBQ sauce recipe

Like seriously, people, I could drink this stuff through a straw!

Kathy really knows her stuff! Mmm!

Have you ever tried surfing?

What’s something that’s on your “bucket list”?

  1. I love your kicks! Mine are the same, but they’re certainly seen better days 😛 By the way, do you find it ironic that you miss an earthquake back home on the east coast, only after you’ve traveled to the west coast?

I love the pictures. It certainly is gorgeous – though I agree, it does look awfully collddd.

I know! It’s totally nuts! People were talking about it on the bus yesterday and when they said, “Did you hear about the earthquake?” I thought they meant around here! Soooo weird!

I need some Chucks, I think. I just wish they had better arch support.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, I here ya there. I wish I could do more of my traveling excursions in them, but I know my feet/legs will kill me if I do!

Just got a pangs of “I-miss-the-west-coast” from this post. Ooof I love California.

My bucket list? I have a few.

-MOVE TO CALIFORNIA. I’m giving myself a 6 year deadline for this goal. Eventually, I want to settle down out there.
    -Sky dive
    -Go to Asia and Africa.
    -Write a best seller/front page article/important restaurant review/food-related piece
-Get a culinary degree (or the equivalent in experience)

I have so many more, but those are just a couple 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, Evan! I LOVE your list! So many incredible things! Though I may have to skip out on the whole jumping out of a perfectly good airplane thing! 😉 Haha!

      • evan says:

haha, it’s not for everyone 😉

Thank youu! I think every person has a bucket list that’s worth talking about…so I love your question here!

  4. yes i surf! i lived in australia for 6 months and bought a board + learned out there. now when i go to the beach here i bring it with me. its hard but so fun, and incredible when you catch a wave 🙂 looks like your having a great time!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, Australia? That’s awesome! We’re you studying abroad? It definitely looks like a great workout once you get the hang of it…I’d just need to work on my balance…I can be such a klutz! Yeah? Chewing gum and walking upstairs? Not pretty! Haha!

  5. Beautiful day! And YAY for your first time seeing the Pacific! I have totally been to Pleasure Point and I’ve surfed there a few times too! I learned how to surf in Hawaii which was awesome. I usually go to Hawaii a couple times a year and surf as much as possible when I’m there. But, out here? I practically have to be dragged out in the water. I have a nice warm wetsuit but it’s still cold and usually dark and foggy at the coast. Not as magical as surfing in Hawaii! For me, anyway. Woody, on the other hand, gets up at 5:30 in the morning and surfs most days of the week. I admire his dedication and passion 🙂

Anyway, I hope you and Emilia continue to have a wonderful time together! Let me know if you make a trip to San Fran because I could *maybe* try to meet you there, since it’s so much closer 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I can’t believe I missed your comment! It would have been so great to meet up in San Fran! Ugh!! There WILL be a next time for sure…waaaaaay too many things to see in one day! We’ll definitely have to get together then!

The verve is amazing. I was just there a week and a half ago. Perfect stop after dinner at Betty’s Burgers (which is AMAZING. there are a couple locations in Santa Cruz including downtown).

  7. you are SO close, yet so far away… 🙂 glad you are loving the West Coast!

my bucket list includes attend a Grand Slam tennis match (I used to play + teach), host a big party with The Dan Band playing, learn to drive a race car.

    😀

enjoy the rest of your vacation!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

A race car, huh? Woo hoo! Miss Spa-eed Demon! Hahaha! Ohhhhh, I CRACK myself up! But seriously, those bucket items are awesome! How fun would that be?!
