Hey guys! I hope you all are having a great week…and if not, relish in the fact that tomorrow is Friiiiiiiiday! π
I’m gonna be honest with you guys, this has not been the best week for me. The little bit of rest I got on Sunday was not enough to help my shins make it through a week of four 10 hour shifts standing on concrete floors. I actually took today off because I couldn’t stand (cheap pun) the thought of working one more day…plus, for some strange reason, Thursdays seem to be one of our busiest days. On top of all that, I’ve been dealing with some personal things over the last few weeks that has gotten me down.
Buttttttttt, rather than wallow in self-pity (so not my style), I decided to take charge and find the things that make me happy.
Things like…
A big bowl of protein oat bran topped with bananas, coconut, chai-coconut sauce, and Warrior Crunch granola followed by not one, but TWO cups of cinnamon coffee
My favorite magazine, a DIY mani/pedi, and Jack Johnson’s sexy, soothing voice π
A little endorphin rush after laying out for two days
Rest is rest, but I needed a little something…and this was a good way to do it with hardly any impact on my shins.
A much needed soak in the tub…don’t worry, I left my phone outside the bathroom this time π
The sweet smell of roasting sweet potatoes
The beauty of fresh green aspargus
And finally breaking out that bison steak for dinner tonight.
Which I will enjoy with a glass of this:
And (hopefully) a few good laughs while watching this:
What are your go-to happy things?
Blech, Jack Johnson! Don’t hate me π Glad to hear you took a day off. Aching shins and personal problems are never a good mix π Hope everything gets better fast.
Eh, I’ll forgive you for not loving Jack…but only because I love you…and all your yummy looking eats! I mean, seriously?? I could dive into that pumpkin spice steamer on your last post!! π
Girl I’m sorry about whatever personal stuff you’re going through! I hope everything is okay!
I love cooking myself up a nice dinner to help get me out of a funk too. Yours looks delicious! And of course wine is always a good idea. π
My go-to happy things are running outdoors, going to the farmer’s market, new magazines, buying a new food product, and sushi!
totally know what you mean about things adding up to just make your week blah. my week was kinda like that too… crazy happy that tomorrow’s friday! i’m glad you got a day of “you time” and indulged in your favorite things.
my happy things are curling up with a trashy magazine (aka US Weekly..yes I get a subscription and I’m not ashamed) or not-so-trashy, like Shape, drinking hazelnut coffee…or baking something…blogging/blog reading… going for a long run.. and watching dvds of sex and the city and Friends.
What is it about trash magazines that can turn a bad day around? I don’t get a subscription, but every time I see one in the waiting room at work, I always steal it and sneak a peek at “fashion faux pas” section! I’m terrible, but I love it when celebrities make fools out of themselves! Haha!
Sounds like you have a great night planned! I hope you end up feeling better π
When I need personal “me” time, I like to enjoy a bowl of ice cream or some chocolate, watch one of my fave TV shows on hulu, listen to music, or curl up in bed with a good book.
Glad to know I’m not the only one feeling down lately…. My pms isn’t helping much either! I usually feel better if I just vent it out and eat some cookies π Hope things turn around soon! Xoxo
Thanks Maria…and I agree, sometimes a good venting sesh is just what the body needs! My car/steering wheel can attest to that! π
Always good to be thankful for the good things. Sorry you are feeling down – rant if you need to anytime π
I wish I could find bison around here – fat chance! But that looks really good!
I’m sorry you’re going through tough times, friend! I can totally relate; the past couple weeks have been beyond CRAZY. I do hope you feel better, rest away!
All your “me” things look totally awesome– soak it all up!
Hey Heather! You’ve been on my mind and in my prayers most of the week due to the shin splints and at least my thoughts on what some of the personal stuff. You are loved! Hope today goes better for you. And if I remember, I’ll text you what I’ve meant to text you all week…
aw Heather-kins! It pains me to hear that you’re going through a rough patch. Please please please contact me if you want to chat, ok?
I’m glad you were able to find solace in some of life’s simplest pleasures though π pampering + good food are what life is all about.
Sending positive vibes your way! **hugs**
Thanks lovie! xoxoxo
Right now? Gingerbread coffee, eggplant roasted in Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, chai spices in anything, big bowls of curry, and warm flour tortillas (the super thin ones that still somehow can be broken apart into two, paper-thin layers)
Totally with you on the chai spice addiction…so warming…so delicious!
happy time = snuggles with my dog & copious amounts of cheese. π
And that, Sarah, is one of the reasons I love you! Not just cheese…copious amounts of cheese! Hahaha!
I love everything in this list!! I hope you feel better soon girl, keep your head up! π
Thank you Brittany!
Hot tub time machine! I literally just had that from netflix like a week ago. I love giving myself mani-pedis, which reminds me that I need to paint my nails. They are looking so bad.
My happy things are sweets, white wine, bubble baths, and curling up with my cat while reading a book.
Great minds! What did you think of it? I thought it had a few funny moments, but for the most part, it was kind of stupid…the ending was the best though!
Your bowl of oat bran looks delish!
Feel better real soon! π <3
Thank you Shannon! There’s nothing like a big bowl of fluffy oat bran to start a day off right! π
sounds like an amazing day to me!
my go to happy things are spending time with my mom, grocery shopping, a warm bowl of oats, and going out and partying it up with my best friends!
My cat is my go to happy thing.
Awwww! Mine tries to be…but then he just gets annoying! Haha!
Hot tub time machine was a great movie! Things that make me happy are cooking and good healthy food that keeps ya full π
How did you make the chai-coconut sauce? It sounds amazing.
