WIAW: The Little Piggy Edition

Oink Oink!

You ever have those days when you have a practically insatiable appetite?

You know, the ones where you can honestly visualize yourself eating something without even bothering with cooking or preparation of any kind because you’re just so freakin’ hungry?

Veggie lovers think ripping up some kale straight out of the ground and going to town dirt and all.Β Meat heads, well…I won’t go there…we don’t want to scar our veggie loving friends, but you know what I mean. πŸ˜‰

Well, THAT is the day I had on Monday.

And thanks to Jenn of Peas & Crayons and the ever famous What I Ate Wednesday, you guys get to see it all!

I started my rather chilly morning with a big cup of black coffee…
and a side of fluffy white robe πŸ˜‰

Then, with thoughts of this past weekend still in my mind, I assembled a ham and pineapple omelet (4 egg whites) with a bit of mozzarella cheese melted to perfection!

I thought about having some toast or maybe an English muffin to go along with it, but I figured the stats were pretty good to keep me satisfied for a few hours before snacktime rolled around…I was wrong.

I got to work at 8:00 and by 8:30 I was chowing down on this beauty:

I went to the cafeteria looking for something…but I didn’t know what…until I spotted my long lost love, the self-serve waffle station!

I swear when they first started it up a couple of years ago, I had a waffle everyday for WEEKS!

I mixed a little cinnamon and some raisins into the batter and topped it with maple syrup, chopped pecans, and a sliced banana.

Hit.the.spot!

For a few hours anyway…

I don’t know what these are…and I can’t really remember how they got into my hand…all I know is that they ended up in my belly.

And then not long after it was lunchtime…and I was so happy…because I was STARVING!

Romaine, ham, pickle, mustard on whole wheat bread with a honeycrisp apple and more pickles.

Ham twice in one day? Hey, I told you I “pigged” out! πŸ˜‰
(Sorry, couldn’t resist)

Luckily, lunch kept me satisfied for about 4 hours. On my way to the gym for yoga class, I snacked on some Greek yogurt.

Β Not my favorite flavor, but not bad…plus it was on sale for 99 cents…SCORE!

I got home from yoga around 5:3o and started feeling hungry AGAIN. Having already made plans to meet a friend for dinner, I didn’t want to spoil my appetite, but in the end, I was just too tired (and lacked the willpower) to say no to a few of these:

Yes, that would be the same Ritz/almond butter/pumpkin butter combo from this weekend…I am officially addicted. All I can say is it’s a good thing I’m out of Ritz crackers now!

Afterwards, I got ready and headed over to Kori (my absolute favorite local sushi restaurant) to meet Lettie for dinner

Her roll is on the left wrapped in the cucumber and mine is on the right (it had eel in it, but that’s all I remember…well, other than it tasted fan-freakin-tastic!)

Miso soup was also involved…I swear I could have a bowl everyday and not get tired of it!

I left feeling quite full and thought, “Ugh, FINALLY!”

And then, about 2 hours later, this happened:

Yep, straight outta the container…because I’m classy like that. Luckily it’s not the BEST flavor in the world (too much chocolate and not enough pb in my opinion) so I didn’t go totally crazy, but I’ll have you know I jumped in bed with a quickness after that little snack before I found myself gnawing on the kitchen sink!

I seriously don’t know what got into me because today has NOT been that way at all! In fact, I actually waited until I got to work today to have breakfast (yes, I caved and got another waffle) and didn’t feel hungry again for nearly FIVE hours!

So weird how the body works sometimes!

Do you ever have those “eat everything but the kitchen sink” days?

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten lately?

  1. I definitely have those days… like way too often for my comfort! But I am much better about embracing them now and just eating whenever I am hungry. Which usually turns into eating a large portion of my pantry… ah well, love it πŸ™‚
Ritz crackers are fabulous, I can understand why that combo is rather magical!

  2. katie says:

The pig pic is SO adorable!

I love ritz crackers even just plain, so that would make them even BETTER!

    Happy Wednesday girl! <3

  3. Oh I feel ya on this! Some days I’m insatiable…and others, all of the things that were so appealing the day before I cannot even imagine stomaching. [I usually can still eat, though. ;)]

I have a bunch of Late July “Classic Rich” (aka imitation Ritz) crackers that I opened for a potluck this weekend and didn’t use…now I think I have an idea of what to do with them….

Also, now, like a pregnant woman, I want nothing more than a jar of pickles to dip in a jar of mustard. [and yes, it is before 8 AM]

    • Sarah – for a sec I thought this said you ARE pregnant and I almost choked on my kombucha. LOL!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

That has GOT to be one of the oddest combos I’ve heard in a while…and I love it! Haha!

Yeah, the only reason I had the crackers (actually Back to Nature brand…very, VERY good I might add) was from our family’s holiday get together a couple of weekends ago when I make chocolate covered pb sandwiched “ritz” which I ended up sending home with my folks because having them in the house with me would have been all sorts of dangerous!

  4. Vien says:

OMG! I’ve never seen a dairy-free pb ice cream!!!!! but pity about the lack of peanut butter! πŸ™
And I absolutely need a waffle station in my life!!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜€

  5. Sarah says:

mmmmmmm waffflleee! OH AND I LOVE the peanut butter and jelly ritz πŸ™‚

  6. ha, I had a few of those day’s over the holidays! I never seem to know what causes it but I try and just go with the flow and not worry about it. I can not believe you can get waffles at work, that’s fab!

  7. Constant snacking? Um welcome to my life! Haha. I actually just posted as well about how much I’m eating! But we eat when we’re hungry right? Right. I always do the ritz dippings too, but latest obsession has actually been graham crackers! I made a pie for Matt’s work and had leftovers and somehow in the morning one or two (ok sometimes 3) end up dipped in a nut butter HAR (because I, like you, have about 10 nut butters)

Owell things could be worse. Haha.

    Have a great week doll!
    How is the boyfriend?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh gosh, graham crackers are so not safe around me! I can put away one of those little packs that come in the box in like 2 days…and that’s with consciously telling myself to “stop eating the damn grahams!” Haha!

And thanks so much for asking! BB is really good! He lives about an hour away so we only get to see each other on the weekends (which is kind of a bummer and hence the reason for the lack of Fri, Sat, Sun posts!) but we try to make the most of the time we DO get together.

How did you do on your muscle quiz today?

  8. It would be nice if auto spell didn’t take over my post. HAR = jar

  9. Some days I’m literally a bottomless pit! did you go running the night before or something? Because that’s usually what does it for me! (Or… if I’m PMSing… just saying.. haha)

    Happy WIAW!

  10. Aww, what a cute little piggy! πŸ™‚
Ahhh! Your posts always make me so hungry! I’d like to eat everything in this blog post right now! (Except the pig!) πŸ™‚ Happy WIAW!

  11. Lauren says:

That pig picture!! I definitely have “hungrier days.” I’m jealous of your sushi dinner.

  12. I definitely have days like that too! Strength training and swimming always turn me into a bottomless pit.

You have a make your own waffle station at your work!? I just turned 10 shades of green with envy. That is so cool!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah! Unfortunately, everything else that they serve (besides breakfast) I wouldn’t even feed my dog…if I had one that is! πŸ˜‰

  13. I’ve changed my workouts and my nutrient sources and have noticed I’ve been a lot hungrier. In a good way because I feel so much more energized, but I eat all the time!

  14. Kiah says:

Haha, I have “those days” every day! Love little piggy…I just want to snuggle it–do you think he/she would mind?

  15. i definitely hear you on the can’t stop eating days! it’s so weird too – usually it’ll happen after a super intense workout day, but the times that it’s out of nowhere are the most bizarre.

this morning i had a delicious bowl of overnight oats with strawberries that i froze last summer & thawed last night!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, I’ve never thought to freeze overnight oats! Sarah! It’s like you just slapped me in the face with an oatmeal spoon! (don’t look at me like you don’t have at least one spoon that you dedicate to oatmeal! ;)) I have GOT to remember this!

  16. I had a day like this the other day! I literally was a bottom-less pit and an hour after dinner I was famished even though I was in bed…so I roamed to the kitchen and ate again! I want a self-serve waffle station…too cool!

  17. i have these kinds of days often! at least you kept all your eating pretty healthy! that’s all you can ask for.

  18. Emily says:

That pig is so cute I want to weep…

Omg yes, just yesterday I was completely ravenous all day. Every item of food that I laid eyes on ended up being consumed.

I am completely craving an omelette right now πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

And reading food blogs doesn’t really help during days like that! I had to steer clear the internet that day for sure…otherwise I may have electrocuted myself trying to lick my computer screen! hahah!

  19. Aww I have those days! It’s like I am a bottomless pit. Never satisfied, always hungry. Atleast you were able to maintain a relatively healthy diet. I always end up eating a bag of chips, cookies and ice cream.
Ps- I love a mini PB&J sandwich. It is so delicious.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

The only reason it didn’t come down to cookies, chips, and ice cream is because I refuse to buy any…I know it will never last more than a couple of days around me! Shhh, don’t tell me that I’ve hidden a pint of Almond Dream ice cream in the back of my freezer! πŸ˜‰

  20. Emily says:

I LOVE the pig picture. I actually have that saved on my pinterest. Pigs have always been my favorite animal and, when I’m older, I definitely plan on having a miniature potbelly as pet. (:
I have days like this all the time! Everything you ate looks delicious though. And you managed to stick with really healthy options. Props to you! When I have those days, all bets are off. And the So Delicious Peanut Butter ice cream is perfection! <3

  21. I do this ALL the time. An article I read recently said women are often hungrier the day after a good workout because we don’t eat enough the day of the workout (not being hungry immediately after the sweat session is not uncommon). I realized I am probably guilty of that!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, I’m rarely ever hungry right after a workout…I usually have to force myself to at least drink a plain protein shake or something…don’t want all that hard work going to waste ya know!

  22. #1. That pig is way too freaking adorable, I want to adopt him. Or her.
#2. YES! I had a day like that on Monday, no matter what, I could not get enough to eat!!! It was madness.

  23. Pumpkin butter? Yum!
I do have those kitchen sink days. Kind of like today actually…
Best thing that I have eaten in awhile- I had the most amazing dinner last friday night, lots of grilled meat, dry roasted potatoes and steamed squash, and (how could I forget?) freshly made multi grain bread.
So that soy ice cream- does it pass for the real stuff? I am lactose intolerant and haven’t ventured into the world of soy ice cream yet.
    Happy WIAW!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, what.a.feast! I just finished dinner and you seriously have me drooling over here! And homemade bread?! Ugh, you’re killing me!

This was my first time trying the Soy Delicious brand…and only because I happened to win a coupon in a blogger giveaway a few months ago. It was just…ok. You could definitely tell that it wasn’t real ice cream. But what you need to try is any of the Almond Dream line (http://www.tastethedream.com/products/adfrozen_category.php)! I’ve tried the praline and the cappuccino flavors and they are AMAZING!!!

  24. I’ve noticed my appetite revs up HARDCORE about a week and a half before the monthly visitor. Like… an incredible difference in the amount I need to eat to not be crazy hungry. I just try to roll with it. I love that ice cream flavor, but I hear ya on the not enough PB. And allow me to comment on that sweet little piggy photo… DAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Though ironically, this post has me craving ham now, ha! πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! Just think of it like we did when we were kids…ham is pig, but pig is pig! I swear I never made the correlation when I was younger that my McDonald’s hamburger once had 4 legs…which I’m sure was a GOOD thing being as I was one of the world’s pickiest eaters! Quite the opposite now, huh?

And holy crap, you just hit the nail on the head with the timing! I never thought about that, but it makes total sense! Well at least now I don’t feel so bad for eating half my pantry!…oh wait, I kinda do! ;-P

  25. That piggy is adorable! And I know what you mean by waffles. ADDICTING.

When I was in junior high I would have two belgian waffles every morning topped with lotsa butter and syrup. Not anymore though :S

  26. Jessica says:

I certainly can relate to these kinds of days! Sounds like you did a great job of listening to hunger, and that is the most important thing! Your body knows what it needs!

  27. Thank goodness it’s not just me! I had an insane insatiable appetite today, too. I love that you made a Hawaiian Omelet – I love Hawaiian Pizza and Omelets so I can’t wait to try to make this.

  28. Lexie says:

Tcch. You’re appetite wasn’t as crazy as mine. I can eat two BIG breakfasts within two hours. Unbeatable. I hold some record here. The best thing I had to eat today was French Onion dip on Roast Onion Crackers (getting my onion intake in) and I had a smoothie alongside it but I accidentally put way to much guar gum (you know when your hand flicks too much…) and it was SO GROSS AND JELLYISH. Ekk. That peanut butter icecream looks delicious! Speaking of which I had a peanut butter AND butter sandwich today. For a snack. (does that count as an insatiable appetite? =P It was an old childhood favorite and today I just thought, dammnit, I’m eating it. It was so good. Happy WIAW darling! x

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I totally just read that as “jellyfish”! I was like, huh? See, I told you I can’t read sometimes!

Peanut butter and butter? Don’t think I’ve ever heard of that combo before…interesting. Oh and I hate it when you accidentally get heavy handed with the gums…bleh! Hope you popped a mint after all those onions! Hahaha!

  29. Sonia the Mexigarian says:

i had one of those days yesterday. πŸ™‚ i could not stop eating. almond butter made numerous appearances last night.
