How to Have a Perfectly Lazy Day and What to Eat

Hey kids! How’s the week lookin so far?

Since I had the day off Monday (that I used paid time off for…yeah, no “holidays” in the medical profession), yesterday was definitely a Munnnnnday sort of day. I think I did a bit too much lazy-ing around this weekend because when the alarm went off started screaming like a wild banshee this morning, I was so not ready to greet the day!

But don’t you think for a second that if I had it to do over again, I would change a thing!

I’m of the mindset that everybody deserves a day to lounge around in their pajamas till 4pm, study the art of how the rear end can form a perfect mold of itself into a couch cushion (or two), and never once think about leaving the house without feeling an ounce of guilt.

With that in mind, allow me to offer up a few important “lazy day” factors and a photo-tutorial for you to use as a model for your own torpidΒ experienceΒ (oh, how’s that for using a thesaurus?!)

Big thanks to Jenn of Peas & Crayons for rounding up our links each week. Be sure to head on over and show some love in the way of comments…don’t be a blog stalker stranger!

So, I don’t know about you guys, but I always like to start my laziest of days off with a little booze…

But I’ve found if I add it to my coffee and make it look pretty, it makes me seem a bit more normal! πŸ˜‰

*21 and older peeps…and please, drink and loaf responsibly*

Also, it’s good to have a sleep over the night before, because then someone else can cook you breakfast:

Perfectly toasty French toast topped with peanut butter, banana, and maple syrup compliments of BB…don’t worry, I didn’t make him do all the work…I totally sliced the banana all by myself!

To conserve energy (and keep up with idle appearances), leftovers for lunch is entirely necessary:

I shall call it, Squash-etti! πŸ™‚

Or maybe I’ll just call it “yum”!

And hear this…BB tried nutritional yeast for the first time and LIKED it!!

As far as entertainment goes…one can only be amused so long with the in-depth study of couch cushion construction…

Your best bet is to have a new TV series on DVD (preferably of the flesh-eating zombie variety) that you can get totally sucked into and suddenly misplace several hours out of the middle of your day.

Cannot.stop.dreaming.about.zombies!

As necessary, feel free to pause for bathroom breaks (don’t forget to check the shower for the undead) and snack breaks:

Always good to choose a snack that builds muscle and strong bones…makes you less likely to become a zombie victim…you know, in case there IS one lurking in the shower.

And of course, don’t be alarmed, if after a long day of dilly dallying, you happen to get a small surge of energy (it’s probably the adrenaline) and all of a sudden want to whip up something delicious in the kitchenΒ see just how much more nutritional yeast you can get into your boyfriend’s system.

Mmm…kale chips!

Which happen to go really well with wheat beer….ummm, I mean ROOT beer…yeah, that’s what I meant! πŸ˜‰

Feel free to tote your “kale and ale” back into the living room for more brain-eating entertainment.

Unfortunately, if you aren’t lucky enough to have access to more silver discs of moving pictures (otherwise known as DVDs), you may at this point realize that you haven’t showered all day and excuse yourself to go “wash off the funk”…

Just be sure to check the shower.

And finally, at the end of the day…if you’re a dedicated foodie like me…you might get an itch (hopefully it’s not of the infectious skin disease variety) to get in the kitchen.

There is only one rule here: Regardless of cooking times, hands-on time must be kept to a minimum (you don’t want to over do it ya know).

One of my go-to meals on such an occasion?

Stuffed chicken breast!

1. Slice chicken breast in half, careful not to go all the way through,
2. Flatten it out with a meat tenderizer (or plastic wrap and a glass like us classy people),
3. Stuff with veggies, sauces, cheese…whatever you like
4. Seal it shut with toothpicks* and throw some breadcrumbs at it,
5. Pop it in a baking dish and cook for 1 hour in a 350 degree oven.

Note: Be sure to count the number of toothpicks you use to be sure you collect them all after cooking…or prepare to give your best “whoopsies” look to the boyfriend when he pulls half of one out of his mouth. πŸ˜‰

I went with one of my favorite combos to make…what I like to call
“Pizza Chicken”:
Spinach, mozzarella cheese, turkey pepperonis, coated in pizza sauce (this time “Pizza Pizza” Cashew Cheese Sauce) and bread crumbs.

Served with a side of roasted broccoli that I just threw in next to the chicken during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

And finally, with a full and satisfied tummy, you can tuck yourself into bed knowing you had one of the best languorous days in the history of allΒ lackadaisicalness.

Just be sure to brush your teeth…and check the shower πŸ˜‰

And just in case you were wondering, yes, all these pics ARE from Instagram…another lazy day rule: no breaking out the big camera!

What is your favorite thing to do and meal to “make” on a perfectly lazy day?

Walking Dead is awesome! We bought the first season too! Scary zombies for sure!

Glad you are having a great week and your french toast looks fabulous! <3

  2. Hahaha I love you for having Kahlua in your coffee. Now *that’s* a way to start off the day. πŸ˜‰

Kudos to BB on the French toast – it looks very blog worthy!

I like to eat oatmeal, eggs, grilled cheese, and roasted veggies on lazy days. Or if I’m really lazy, take out sushi. πŸ˜€

  3. Isn’t it great having someone else cook for you?! Yumm πŸ˜€

  4. That sounds like a fabulous lazy day! I like to get the crock pot going on a lazy day. It makes the house smell great, it’s super simple and I can continue to be lazy!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I was just telling my co-workers the other day how my crock pot has not gotten enough action this season. I am totally busting it out this weekend! I love putting a whole pork loin in all day and then shredding it up with some BBQ sauce…that should feed me all next week!

  5. Haha, sometimes lazy days are just needed! πŸ™‚ I’ve never had stuffed chicken breast before but will try it out sometime!

  6. Mmmm….now I want some squash-etti for dinner tonight. πŸ™‚ [Although, to be honest, just covering spaghetti squash in nutritional yeast is pretty darn YUM.]

I wish I knew how to have a lazy day. I do like your advice…but it’s so hard for me NOT to get up and try to take on the world!

  7. Looks like the perfect lazy day to me! Love how you started off with kahlua. Haha!

  8. the stuffed chicken breasts look delicious! And I love spaghetti squash! love your blog!

  9. Kate says:

i LOVE walking dead. doesn’t it make you just want to start hitting people in the head with shovels and running/screaming for your life? No? Just me?

  10. julie says:

haha! i need some of that kaluha in my coffee this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. oh i love lazy days. i think i perfected the position to get optimal ass-print-on-couch action.

favorite lazy day meals = leftovers. anything i don’t have to prepare, really! if it’s a true lazy day, no cooking is allowed. πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! You know, people really should take things like ass-print to couch ration more seriously…you never know when you may need that knowledge! πŸ˜‰

Oh yeah, leftovers are a MUST on lazy days!

  12. Mmm, that pizza chicken sounds great! That’ll have to make an appearance on my plate in the near future.

I love Shocktop…have you tried the raspberry kind? My fave πŸ™‚

    [Found your blog through WIAW]

    • kissmybroccoli says:

No, I haven’t. This was actually my first time trying the Shocktop and I really liked it! I may have to pick up the raspberry kind next time I’m at the store.

Thanks so much for commenting! Love finding new bloggers to stalk thru WIAW…off to take a look at yours now!

  13. ” and throw some breadcrumbs at it” This conjures amazing mental images in my mind, a la the Swedish Chef from the Muppets. Bork bork bork! πŸ˜‰

  14. Love it! Was that nutritional yeast on your squash-etti? What a great idea?
I love baking cookies and baking chips on lazy days.
    And drinking wine. Often. πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yes, wine is another drink of choice for my lazy days…I swear I’m not an alcoholic! Haha!

And yep, that’s about half the amount of nooch that ended up on my squash-etti…can’t get enough of that stuff!

  15. I’ve been meaning to ask you this for awhile now and I’m sure you’ve probably had to answer it dozens of times, but where did you get your “H” coffee mug? I really want one of those. Well not one with an “H” but you know what I mean. Oh and thanks for the great stuffed chicken recipe. I have a couple breasts (hehe) in the fridge that are nearing their expiration date and this sounds like the perfect way to cook em up. I’m sure the hubby will agree πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I got it at Anthropologie for $5…I love that place…course this was like, the only thing I could afford! Lol

      Breasts…hahaha!

  16. Oh man do I love lazy days! Especially filled with good food, like everything above! I definitely want to stuff chicken sometime soon.. that just sounds odd? haha

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      Haha! Well, I guess it’s better than…slapping a chicken? Sorry, it’s late…I’m tired…and that’s all I’ve got! Lol

  17. Haha I saw (some of) these on instagram and I was getting jealous! so much deliciousness!!! I had a super lazy relaxing day on Monday (Yay for holidays!) and it was AWESOME. Like a serious day of lazy, haha.

And BB liked the Nutritional yeast?! That’s AWESOME!!! I can’t say the same about my man πŸ˜‰

  18. Lexie says:

Hahah, I have a really scary bathroom downstairs with all these moulding shower curtains and fungus (dont ask, the person using it refuses to clean it as it looks ‘nice’ apparently. Ahem.) And whenever I go down there, I swear I can see a dead body in the shower. IT FREAKS ME OUT SO MUCH. When I’m feeling lazy I generally just stick my hand into the pantry and then the fridge and call it a date between the two. I used to spend so much time making meals…now I’m constantly lazy =P Maybe food mojo’s come and go. Speaking of zombie movies, HAVE YOU SEEN ZOMBIELAND? (don’t know why that was in capitals. I felt desperate.) It’s amazing. And Shaun of The Dead is incredibly funny too. Happy WIAW pretty!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ugh, I hate it when there is a not so fine line…practically a ravine…between what you think is clean and what others find acceptable. That’s one of the reasons I always had a hard time with roommates in college…well, that and I happen to be very mothering. Not in the creepy kind of way that scares people off though. More like, “oh look, she’ll take care of me so I don’t have to do anything!” sort of way…yeah, I really know how to add needless stress to my life! ANYWAY!! Total tangent there! I HAVE SEEN ZOMBIELAND AND IT WAS HILARIOUS!! <- I felt the caps were appropriate, don'tcha think? πŸ˜‰ I frickin love Jesse Eisenberg! Did you hear they're coming out with a sequel? But not until sometime next year. Boo!

  19. Jessica says:

I’ve heard so many good things about Kale chips, but I still haven’t tried them! Your pictures are inspiring me to make them!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Soooooo easy…just don’t cook them for more than around 6-8 minutes…otherwise they come out tasting like yard clippings. Sadly, I speak from experience! πŸ™

  20. Emily says:

Oh my goodness- what a perfect lazy day!
I went a little crazy with buying kale at the Farmer’s Market this week. They had so many different varieties and it all looked amazing! So, naturally, I bought a ton. Now I’m trying to use it all up! (Not that too much kale is ever a bad thing…) Kale chips are on the agenda tomorrow!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Not that too much kale is ever a bad thing <- NEVVVVVVVVVERRRRRRRRRR! Have you tried adding it to soup? So good! Just throw it in in the last few minutes of cooking so it gets all warm and wilty! πŸ™‚

  21. Kelsey says:

yum – love the french toast, spaghetti squash. and broccoli! …who am i kidding? you had me at lazy! (and booze.)

yay for BB liking nooch! total points!!

  22. Oh my goodness, I love everything about this post! It sounds like THE perfect day to me! πŸ™‚

  23. I want a lazy day like that! My kids having monday off of school has totally thrown me off schedule, I’m a day behind!!!

  24. Your stuff chicken looks absolutely yummy! I’m going to have to try it πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you Maria! I’d have to say it’s my favorite way to eat chicken…why bother with toppings when the stuff can go INSIDE…with CHEEEEEESE! πŸ˜‰
