Lamb Burgers with Greek Yogurt Tzatziki Sauce

Hey guys!

I hope you all survived the weekend…seriously…have you seen all the storms happening around the country? I’m not one for snow, but c’mon Mother Nature! Tornados in the middle of January?! You’re sense of humor sucks!

We had some pretty high winds resulting in fallen trees and down power lines, but I’m happy to report all in Casa de Broccoli are alive and counted for…though if Tiger does NOT stop trying to eat my newest house plant, we might be down a family member πŸ˜‰

So Friday night, I decided to whip up a little something different for BB and I for dinner. While thinking of what to make, I spied in the freezer the pound of frozen ground lamb I picked up waaaaaaaay back when the farmer’s market was still going on. Remember when I said I was going to make some Greek-style burgers? Don’t worry…I don’t blame you if you don’t…I can’t even find the post! But anyways…

I FINALLY did it!

BAM!

Greek Lamb Burgers with Tzatziki: (serves 4)

  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 egg
  • 2 handfuls chopped fresh spinach
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt & pepper
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat bread crumbs

1. Preheat your indoor or outdoor grill to medium heat (I used a grill pan skillet).
2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and (now’s not the time to get girly) roll up your sleeves, and dig your fingers in.
3. Work ingredients together until well combined and then pat out evenly into 4 large patties.
4. Rub grill down with a napkin soaked in olive oil to prevent the burgers from sticking.
5. Cook approximately 6-7 minutes per side or until browned and grill marks appear.
6. Serve on a whole wheat bun with homemade tzatziki sauce (recipe follows) and red onion slices.

Greek Yogurt Tzatziki Sauce: (serves 4)

  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 medium-sized cucumber, peeled and finely diced
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt & pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Serve atop Greek Lamb Burgers.

I could not help but be impressed with the way these burgers turned out! The combination of the spinach, feta, and lean ground lamb was already a winner, but the homemade tzatziki sent it over the top!

Warm grilled lamb with tangy feta, cool drippy sauce, and the nice crispness of sliced red onion…better known as heaven on a plate!

I had the last one for lunch today and it was just as good as the night I first made them! I seriously cannot wait to do more experimenting with ground lamb in the future…such a great flavor!

Have you ever eaten lamb or what is your favorite Greek dish?

Any of you get any crazy storms over the weekend?

I’m always amazed at how… not particularly normal (?) lamb is in other countries. It is HUGELY popular/mainstream/a staple at every barbecue, etc etc here in Australia. I LOVE lamb burgers, especially with tzatziki (again, really common here… huge Greek population). My dad makes the most awesome, SUPER garlicky meatballs – mostly lamb, but with a bit of beef too. And ALWAYS served with (equally garlicky πŸ˜‰ ) tzatziki.

And yes! Definitely not the same ones, but we’ve had some nutso weather and crazy/spectacular storms here too!

    Hello love!!!

I actually do not eat lamb, but I have to say my parents would love these! They like lamb ; ) who knows, Mike might too! Look amazing!

We had storms yesterday! It was almost 65 degrees here! Crazy! Of course today its back to being cold as hell!

    Love ya girl!!!

  3. It’s been so long since I last ate lamb that I can’t remember if I like it or not lol! But these do look delicious. I made Greek turkey meatballs sort of similar to this a few weeks ago and they were amazing!

We got some rain and high winds here yesterday, but nothing too crazy. Glad to hear you’re all okay! πŸ™‚

  4. HEATHER! these look fab! beautiful photos πŸ™‚

  5. Those look fantastic. I’m not a big meat eater, but I might have to try this recipe next time I get hit with a craving for it.

We had some snow here this weekend but nothing too crazy, fortunately.

I have never made anything with lamb. These look amazing and, as always, great photography!

  7. Uh, NICE ONE! The last lamb burger I had at a restaurant was a little on the dry side, and these look like the complete opposite of that! I love lamb but have yet to really experiment with it myself. I need to get on it!

is it wrong that i’ve never had lamb before…these look AMAZING. i love feta turkey burgers but i really love the idea of making tatziki! its my fav dip πŸ™‚

  9. I don’t think I’ve ever had lamb but this looks amazing!!!

Oh I love the red onion spirally topper!

Lamb is really delicious… I CRAVED it when I was pregnant something mad…. probably because I was seriously low in iron. From memory lamb, yoghurt, feta and basically everything you have put together here is fantastically delicious – I used to top it all with a little sweet chilli sauce and a squeeze of lime.

    Not any more though!

Bet BB was one stoked bloke πŸ™‚

Crazy weather here too – we almost flooded this morning! argh

I have had lamb and really like it in a gyro. Lamb chops are good, too. My favorite Greek food is baklava πŸ™‚

No crazy weather, but we did get a sprinkling of snow. My theory is that Spring is still pissed off that Winter lasted so long last year and encroached on her time so now she is trying to take over as much of Winter as she can!!

  12. Obviously I’m not gonna be eating any lamb πŸ˜‰ but I HAVE been curious about making my own Tzatziki sauce! Especially because I always have greek yogurt on hand. I think I could totally make a rockin pita with this!

  13. I’m a greek girl through and through. Gyros were a usual of mine when we would go to Greek restaurants. I wish I could master this flavor combination dairy and meat free…a girl can dream, right? Looks amazing Heather!

Oh I used to be ADDICTED to the little gyro place in the mall when I worked next to it in college…I swear I was in there AT LEAST twice a week!

  14. Lexie says:

I know how immature this sounds…but your onion rings are stacked in such an aesthetically pleasing way, it makes me so happy. I don’t know wether I should be borderline worried for my sanity or proud I’m so unique for saying that. Ahem.
AND I’VE NEVER EATEN LAMB. EVER. Before I was vegetarian I only ate bacon and sausages because that’s all I could buy…I feel like I’m going to be depriving my taste buds for the rest of my life. Sniffles. Sometimes, vegie burgers just dont cut it =\

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, I’m going with “unique” on that one…you just have an eye for food photography! πŸ˜‰

Aww, if I ever finish my time machine, I will totally pick you up, cruise back to the past and make you the biggest bestest Lamb-est burger ever! πŸ™‚

  15. I love burgers and I love Greek food- what a combo, these look amazing!
