WIAW: Feelin’ Festive!

Don your Santa hats and reindeer antlers…pull on those ugly sweaters and crank up the tunes…

wiaw what i ate wednesday button happy healthy holidays

It’s time to have a little holiday fun…WIAW style!

Be sure to head over to Peas & Crayons, thank our lovely hostess, Jenn, and check out all the other fantastically delicious link-ups for this week’s What I Ate Wednesday!

Like I said on Monday, I’ve really gotten into the Christmas spirit lately…

Christmas Scrubs

Love my Christmassy scrubs…and my new owl cup! πŸ˜€

I’ve been sipping on warm holiday spices…

IMG_0208

I’ve started spiking my egg nog coffee…

IMG_0148

Aww, c’mon, what’d you THINK I was spiking it with? πŸ˜‰

And I’ve also been doing a bit of indulging…

In some of these:

Christmas Cookies

A couple of these:

And maybe just a few of these:

IMG_0209

Ok, ok…so maybe it was the whole damn plate!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again,

Cookies are my kryptonite!

And SINCE I know I have absolutely no perception or understanding of the word “willpower” once faced with a platter of buttery sugary delightment, I’ve taken some steps to help maintain a little balance…

With creamy green smoothies,Β

Mouth-watering salads,Β

And just about anything stuffed inside collard wraps!

Yep, there has been a LOT of green around here lately.

What can I say, it’s not TOO easy being green!

IMG_0182

Whoops, how’d THOSE get in there? πŸ˜‰

But seriously, even though I have entered at least one sugar coma due to cookie over-indulgence, I have to say I’m doing a heck of a lot better than I have in the past. Honestly, some of the treats I’ve eaten haven’t even tasted as good as I thought they would.

Proof that it pays to eat clean!

And besides, my cravings have been more for the PAN-cookie variety anyway…

Chocolate Chip Cookie Protein Pancakes 1

But really? Can you blame me? πŸ˜‰

How are you doing maintaining balance over the holidays?

What’s the best TREAT you’ve eaten this week?

  1. I made chocolate cranberry orange scones! I died and went to heaven! Have them in today’s post, recipe tomorrow morning! πŸ™‚

  2. lindsay says:

i think it all evens out. Plate of cookies, then a big green smoothie. Right?
    p.s.
I want those scrubs just to wear around. that’s ok, right?

  3. I’m loving the green smoothies and mouth watering salads.

I did a similar post today on tempering my sweet cravings and indulgence with healthy eats.
I too have an addiction, so you are not alone. Hopefully when the holidays are over and everyone else starts their juicing and no solid foods cleanse, they won’t find us shivering in a cornor eating cookie crumbs left on the floor. We’ll get through this.

  4. Too many goodies…they’re coming to get me! πŸ˜‰ Second time I’ve seen the gingerbread spice tea today…I MUST find some! Have a great WIAW, Heather!

  5. Lot-O-Choc says:

your snowman scrubs are so cute! love gingerbread spice tea too yumm!

  6. Meg says:

lol I don’ t think you realize how much I’d love to meet you, babe!!

That salad seriously has my name ALL OVER IT

    Love you

  7. I too have found that some treats don’t taste quite as awesome to me as they used to. Of course, there are plenty of awesome goodies (ie: the peppermint cake ball pops I had the other day), but a lot are worth skipping.

  8. Mmm I can’t turn down homemade Christmas cookies either. πŸ˜€ A few days ago I made How Sweet Eats’ snickerdoodles and they were amazing!

  9. I think the candy cane ice cream that’s in my freezer has to be the best treat I’ve had lately…seriously, that stuff is delicious.

  10. Farrah says:

Oh these pancakes! Anything chocolate is my weakness, so I can’t keep my hands off anything that has chocolate.

  11. Those Christmas scrubs are cute! And I love the owl mug.

And I love the picture of the Buckeyes!! Coming from an Ohioan those have a special place in my heart πŸ™‚

  12. Kendra says:

That green smoothie looks delicious, as do all those sugary cookies and brownies:) Though I definitely have a sweet tooth, too much sugar definitely does NOT agree with my stomach; I go into a sort of “sugar coma” when I consume a large amount. Those collard green wraps look fantastic–even though I am not exactly sure what is inside them:D

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yes, I’ve suffered many a sugar coma…but I swear with all the holiday eating that continued into this past weekend, I bypassed sugar coma…actually, I’m pretty sure I died a few times! πŸ˜‰

The collard wraps were stuffed with curried chicken salad!

  13. Those have got to be the most perfect pancakes I’ve ever seen. Oh, and I *will* get my hands on that owl cup! Maybe I can get the hubs to get it for me for Christmas?!?

  14. Allie says:

Coooooooookies. You KNOW I’m drooling over here. And pondering when, where and how I can find some cookies of my own–and soon. I also just bought that g-bread tea and am loving it! Not a fan of the sugar n’ spice CS tea, tried that one too.

  15. So many cookies, so little time! Love the look of the collard wraps too! I have to say, my intake of greens has been slightly offset with holiday goodies, but those would get me back on track!

  16. purelytwins says:

    Christmassy scrubs adorable!
best Holiday treat that we have enjoyed lately is our pink peppermint cream cake πŸ™‚

  17. Kristina says:

wait, WHAT. how did I miss those cookie pancakes? leaving THAT window open until lunch… πŸ˜‰

I have been spiking my coffee with peppermint too… and my water. Basil’s water. WHAT?

    your scrubs are Too Cute.

  18. You’re so cute in your Christsassy scrubs!

Cookies were my treat of choice Sunday night. That cookie swap was fantastic… But I had the sugar shakes when I left.

  19. Yummy. Love all of the treats and cookies and of course, the pancookies πŸ™‚
Your scrubs are adorable! I wish I was feeling more festive and it’s almost already Christmas. Sigh. I want snow!

  20. Love that you are enjoying the goodies of the season! For me, I am enjoying lots of workouts, so that I can enjoy lots of goodies. πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I need to be enjoying lots of workouts…thanks to my jam-packed schedule this weekend, I haven’t been to the gym in over four days and it’s killing me! I’m definitely going for a run tomorrow! Lol

  21. Are those BUCKEYES?!?!?!

If they aren’t, well, you need to find some…stat.

And minty green M&Ms are kryptonite. Actually, any M&Ms. Peanut butter, dark chocolate, peanut, almond…remember the crispy ones? I am not a fan of the pretzel ones though. I’d much rather eat a pretzel and a handful of M&Ms simultaneously. But I digress.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yes ma’am! LOVE Buckeyes…one of the best pb/chocolate combos of ALL time! I’m a sucker for peanut butter M&M’s too, but yeah, I totally feel ya on the pretzel ones…they never really did it for me!

  22. Wow, that quinoa and fig salad looks so good! I love quinoa salads. πŸ™‚ And those pancakes look beyond amazing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you Olivia! And yes, quinoa salads are the best! I love mixing up my salads with hot and cold toppings! πŸ™‚

  23. Julie says:

Those buckeyes look yummy and I agree – after not eating sweets for so long, I don’t need as much.

  24. Mmmmm cookies. I just baked up a batch of ridiculously buttery and sweet chocolate chip cookies tonight and couldn’t help but indulge in a few… seriously the best things I’ve eaten this week; and I’m planning on baking some snickerdoodles soon as well, so hopefully those turn out just as good. You make a good point about balance, though… maybe I should throw a few baby carrots and cucumber slices into some of my meals πŸ˜‰

  25. Jessie says:

Heather, you are adorable in your Christmas themed scrubs =) Glad to see you’ve been enjoying all the delicious treats that come around during the holidays!

  26. Lucie says:

Oh my God, the scrubs are to die for!!! I want one too! πŸ™‚ I am a cookie monster. but I have to admin, i am doing pretty well, considering I work next to a cookie bakery. I feel that meditating is good to balance my cookie inbalance πŸ™‚ The collard wraps look SOOO good!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, I would die! I’d have to quit my job for sure! Lol …I need to learn how to meditate…or maybe just self-hypnosis…I could convince myself that cookies are nasty! Hahaha!

  27. Kat says:

Balance has basically gone out the door for me right now!! I do fine until I see the plate of goodies, then I just throw my “healthy” mindset to the side of the road and grab a couple cookies. Im using only red peanut butter m&ms for some rudolph cupcakes this friday, so my hubby and I decided it was only right if we dug through the bag and ate all the green ones. That was a good night:)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I like the way you guys think! And that balance I spoke of? Yeah, it TOTALLY went out the window this past weekend…two days later and I’m STILL trying to recover! Lol

  28. You are too cute!! I haven’t had time to make gluten free goodies this year. Plus, I’m still battling being sick so nothing sounds good. Lose-lose. After I get better, I am going to join the cookie party late!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh honey, I hope you get to feeling better soon…well, since I’m a few days late on this, hopefully you’re ALREADY feeling better! Love ya and Merry Christmas!
