Boozy Cranberry Pomegranate Sauce

Happy Monday, friends and welcome to day ONE of
The Broccoli Birthday Bonanza! πŸ˜€

Before we get into our planned festivities, I believe it’s MORE than acceptable to pop open a bottle of wine and let loose a bit, right?

Boozy Cranberry Pomegranate Sauce by www.kissmybroccoliblog.com

Hey, it’s five o’clock somewhere!

This year for Thanksgiving, I had the honor of making the cranberry sauce that would show up sit next to my father’s gelatinous mold on the dinner table. Since it’s MY blog’s birthday week and all, I’m gonna go ahead and take the liberty of saying that I TOTALLY outdid myself with this one! I mean, when your mom takes a taste test and can’t catch her breath afterwards, you KNOW you did good! πŸ˜‰

I took a cue from my girl, Melissa, and decided to booze it up a bit this year and seriously, it made SUCH a difference! The red wine that I used is from a local winery here in Clarksville and is one of my absolute favorites…it’s very similar to a Cabernet Sauvignon but feel free to use a Merlot, Pinot Noir, or other dry red wine.

I LOVED the contrast in this sauce…the soft, squishy cranberries with the “pop” of the pomegranate seeds and then the faint hint of orange in the background? HEAVEN! I kept the sweetener low so it’s more on the tart side, like my family prefers, but if that’s not your deal, feel free to add a whole cup of your favorite granulated sweetener.

  1. Okay, so admittedly I already have a nice stash of NuNaturals, but I love it and a girl can never have too much stevia right? πŸ˜‰ And I would make your breath-robbing crnaberry sauce for Christmas of course!

  3. Sara says:

NuNaturals is the only brand of stevia I like. All the others taste so fake to me, the only down side is that NN tends to be pretty pricey so unless I have a gift card I go for the cheaper junk then kick myself. Id love to win this prize and be set for awhile!

  4. Christine says:

Coffee and tea sweetening for me!

  5. Lol, Tagatose…my future child’s name AGAIN.

Cherry vanilla- wow, I only just tried normal vanilla stevia. Admittingly, I haven’t tried this brand before but I’m game! I’d use the nunaturals as a object to pose next to.

PS making your donuts this week. Even stole my mother’s donut pan πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, really?! Yay! I can’t wait to hear what you think of the donuts! And yeah, I just want you to know that I will forever think of you any time I used tagatose now! Haha!

Oh my goodness!!! NuNaturals as the giveaway? I’m dreaming, right…? I used to always be looking around and experimenting with different brands of stevia and they always tasted a little funny to me until I met NuNaturals. I have only ever used their packets so if I got these FLAVORED drops… oh man… I would be in heaven! I would create millions kinds of oatmeal (since, yanno, I’m a poor college kid with only a microwave in my dorm… oatmeal is all I can make) and jazz up my frothed milk that goes into my latte every morning!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I thought the same thing about other brands of stevia…always a funny little aftertaste…so I was pleasantly surprised the first time I tried NuNaturals. 46. I would use it to sweeten my tea, smoothies or oatmeal!

  47. melissa.simon.9@facebook.com says:

I use it in my smoothies!

  48. Kat says:

Funny story, my mom#2 actually works for Gallo Winery and she just sent me home with some goodies. A bottle of chocolate and berry red wine as well as a Red Velvet champagne. Now, Im not much of a drinker, but both those drinks have me drooling just at the name!!
As for your recipe, Ive actually never made anything apart from Sangria with alcohol!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh I love cooking with wine! It lends so much more flavor than water or broth! And I’ve tried some of that chocolate wine. The one I had didn’t taste much like wine…more like a creamy liquor but it was fantastic added to my weekend mug of coffee…just sayin’! πŸ˜‰

  49. You should bottle me up some of that cranberry sauce and send it over immediately. πŸ™‚ I promise to eat it all and tell you about it. πŸ™‚ I love NuNaturals stevia in everything – oatmeal, protein pudding, desserts, you name it!

  50. Sarah Pie says:

Cranberries, pomegranates, and WINE!? This sounds ahh-mazing and it’s making me sad that I don’t have any of the ingredients hanging out to make some. I may have to head to the store on a “study break” so I can whip this up.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh, I do hope you get a chance to make it! I’ve tried a lot of different recipes/combinations for cranberry sauce, but this one is by FAR the best one I’ve ever made! I actually plan on making another batch in the next couple of days since I’m down to my last couple of spoonfuls but stil have PLENTY of turkey to eat! πŸ˜‰

  51. kolya says:

Wowza…double whammy! Great recipe and perfect place to use NuNaturals. I haven’t tried the tagatose or flavored ones though I was tempted at TJ’s last week. Not currently in the budget, sadly ):

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you so much, Kolya! I’ve never tried the kind from TJ’s…and really I don’t use plain stevia all that much since I don’t really have a sweet tooth, but if you can ever get your hands on some of the flavored liquids, they’re definitely worth it in my opinion! Great for pancakes and oatmeal or even yogurt bowls! πŸ™‚

  52. Sarah McLaughlin says:

Oh this would be awesome! I would definitely try this cranberry sauce and use it in coffee and oatmeal!

  53. Molly C. says:

  57. Jen Lyle says:

Yum yum! Cherry vanilla! Happy Birthday to KMB! πŸ™‚

  58. Yoojin says:

i would use the stevia drops for pretty much everything, but particularly green smoothies! since i try to keep them minimal in fruit, the stevia drops (especially cherry vanilla) would be the perfect addition πŸ™‚

  59. Maria says:

Pomegranate seeds in your cranberry sauce? Genius. Cranberries popping is hands down my favorite thing about Thanksgiving. Besides the eating of course.

You know I don’t think I’ve ever tried NuNaturals and I’m pretty sure I have like 10 recipes bookmarked that call for them…so I NEED these.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yeah, I’ve done the pom seeds before, but this one by FAR is the best I’ve ever made! So much so that I’m totally making another batch this weekend since I still have plenty of turkey leftovers to get through! πŸ˜‰

  60. Amry says:

I would use it to make one of your pancake recipes of course!

  61. Melissa says:

I’ve never used flavored stevia, so I’d love to try adding these flavored ones to pretty much everything. I sense some lemon banana oatmeal in my future if I get my hands on this…

  62. Ashley P says:

I’d add this to my oatmeal!

  63. Kayla R says:

I’ve never true NuNaturals so I would definitely have a field day.. Especially with flavors like these!!!
I would start by attempting to make some exciting new pancake recipes as creative as the flavor combos the Pancake QUEEN.
Then I would play with oatmeal, baked goods and all that other fun stuff πŸ˜€

  64. Katie says:

    Gosh I love your recipes!

I would add it in EVERYTHING- esp oats and coffee!

  65. Ashley says:

Cherry vanilla would be SO good in an almond milk latte!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhhh, I LIKE what you did there! πŸ˜‰ And I’ve been thinking of doing the very same thing since I’m now down to my last couple of spoonfuls but still have PLENTY of turkey to eat! There will most definitely be a round TWO! πŸ˜€

  67. Kaitlin says:

My husband would find soo many uses for these stevias!!! With my gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, and now having to be on the candida diet long-term…as the awesome cook he is, he reinvents and reworks so many reicpes for me so that I never feel deprived or left-out. He even made me my own Thanksgiving where I could eat everything!

  68. Le says:

Hm that with turkey might just be amazing.

  69. Caroline says:

I’ve never tried it before, but think it would be especially good in tea, baked goods, and oatmeal!

  70. Abby says:

I would use it in granola and other yummy baking recipes!

  71. Kayla says:

Wow this recipe looks awesome! I never actually tried stevia before so I would love too! It would definitely be amazing in oatmeal!

  72. Cora says:

To show how much I adore Stevia, I wrote a little poem.

    Eh hem..

Ohhhh Stevia. You make my heart Heavy-a.
Your sweetness so big and bottle so small,
Have me dancing for joy, my taste buds and all.

You help me each day by sending sweet love my way.
In pancakes and cocoa, coffee and jam,
Now cherry vanilla? I say, “hot damn!!”

  73. Oh this sounds good! I like the idea of adding Pom seeds and wine! I made a cranberry sauce with amaretto and oranges this year. I might have to try it with wine next time.

  74. Rebecca says:

Pancakes or oatmeal! Breakfast is the best meal of the day πŸ˜‰

  75. Hannah says:

I would love to use the cherry vanilla stevia to make a chocolate cake! Mhm, sounds like a delicious holiday treat..

  76. Kristen says:

I would use the stevia in my baking and oatmeal! I loveeee stevia. It adds the perfect sweetness (:

  77. cranberry and pomegranate is probably a STELLAR combination!!!!

  78. Ruta says:

I think it would be perfect to add to a simple mug cake.

  79. Nicole M. says:

Most definitely in oatmeal and mug cakes! But that peppermint one would be fantastic for a homemade peppermint mocha! Yummy!

  80. Better yet ask what not to use NuNaturals in. Yogurt bowls and mug cakes are a great way for sure. And I know you just forget to add in the description that you’ll add a jar of your cranberry sauce to the winners’ packages ;).

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I totally would if I knew it would travel decently! I swear, I’m down to like my last couple of spoonfuls and I’m hoarding it! Looks like I’ll be making some more this weekend! Why don’t you come over and help me eat it! πŸ˜‰

  81. Emily says:

I’d use NuNaturals to bake holiday treats!

  82. So you had me at the addition of booze. The pomegranates and the orange zest didn’t hurt either.

  83. Booze, pomegranates and cranberries. Heather, you’re after my heart. Admit it. πŸ˜‰ Hell. Who needs the holidays to make this. I’ll whip some up next week. Happy Birthday KMB!!! <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

My thoughts exactly! I decided the other day that on my next trip to Costco, I’m totally stocking up on GINORMO bags of cranberries and stuffing them in my freezer! Lol
