French Vanilla Protein Sundae

Hey guys! I just got in from having dinner with my mom and sister at our favorite hibachi style restaurant. My belly is fully and my eyelids are heavy, but I thought I’d pop in real quick and say hi!

Hiiiiiiii!

Plus, I just HAD to share with you guys the stroke of genius I had while making breakfast the other day…ok, well I’m sure I’m not the FIRST person to think of it, but hey, when you combine two of your favorite things for breakfast and it ends up tasting like a decadent dessert (that’s also healthy), I think it deserves a little morning dose of narcissism. πŸ˜‰

It all started with a craving for yogurt…but not just any yogurt…

Stonyfield’s French Vanilla low fat yogurt!
(The last of the stash from the “milk and yogurt” run)

The sugar content is a bit high on these, especially being that it’s just vanilla flavored (21g) but lately I’ve had an out-of-this-world raving sweet tooth, so I haven’t even batted an eye…I mean c’mon, there are worse things I could be doing a face plant into, right?

So anyway, it started with a craving for yogurt…but then my ADD self got to thinking that maybe I wanted a protein smoothie…and then I spotted some preeeeeety ripe bananas…

Get it?

…”spotted”…

Oh, I crack myself up!

Behold the wonderment that was my bowl of breakfast Heaven!

Confession: I may have been holding out on you with this post, until I could recreate it in my new pretty bowl!

True story…I went to TJ Maxx looking for a good “banana bowl”

Yep, some dreams DO come true! πŸ˜‰

Meet my breakfast “sundae”!

1 cup French vanilla yogurt plus one scoop vanilla whey protein powder

Equals

Pure, decadent, make-you-forget-what-you-were-saying deliciousness!

Wait…where was I?

…………………..

Oh yeah, you know what you do when you find yourself on the cusp of the most brilliant “dessert meets breakfast” moments?

You raid your pantry for a bazillion toppings to take it over the top of course!

Go big or go home!

Ahhh, if only I had had some whipped topping…

Well, looks like banana, carob chips, goji berries, slivered almonds, chia seeds and super plump cherries will have to do!

Oh the troubled life I lead…

And you know what? Sometimes such deliciousness was meant to be shared…

Lickin’ it clean!

I think I got Tiger’s seal of approval on this one!

I’m not sure why it took me so long to combine yogurt and protein powder, but now I’m super excited to try out more combinations with different flavors of protein powder. I figure I’ll stay with the basic vanilla or maybe a plain flavor for the yogurt so it keeps it’s richness, but how good would this be with chocolate protein powder? Or peanut flour!?

What yogurt/protein powder combo would you try?

What would you top your protein sundae with?

Well, I’m off to bed! Gotta get up early for a run…I missed my workout this morning because the ever-so-soft cotton containment beneath my head just wouldn’t allow me to budge…even when my alarm went off for the FIFTH time! Let’s hope I can defeat the little cushy devil tomorrow! I don’t know…

It’s so FLUFFaaaaaaay!

Yes! I love mixing Greek yogurt with my Jay Robb protein powder – great protein packed snack I like for work. I also use it in smoothies.
I love caramel on a sundae with whipped cream and strawberries.
    Cute bowl!

  5. Joanna says:

Greek yogurt with peanut flour is amazing .. makes a great base for all sorts of yogurt mess combinations or even a great pancake or waffle topping .. so many possibilities!

  8. Haha I’ve totally held out on sharing delicious meals before just so I could recreate them in prettier bowls. Oh the life of a food blogger πŸ˜€ But this meal DOES look delicious… I especially love the hardcore toppings πŸ˜‰ I’d definitely be adding chopped nuts, chocolate chips, dried cherries, and granola to my sundaes… and maybe a bit of almond butter and pudding for some ooey-gooey ness…

  9. Lizzie says:

    Omg that looks so good!!!
I love the bowl πŸ™‚ Definitely worth going to TJ max!

  10. Lauren says:

LOVE that bowl!! I love scouring the aisles at TJ Maxx to find fun bowls. I must admit, I’m very intrigued by goji berries. Maybe I should try them.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

In my opinion, they’re just ok…but I practically had to carve out my spleen to pay for the ittt bitty package that I bought from Whole Foods! Definitely not worth all that (besides, you know you’ve got all that missed work, recovery time, and then there’s those pesky stitches!), but since I have them already, I like to throw them into parfaits and stuff…and they’re pretty! πŸ˜‰

  11. This looks delicious, especially in that bowl! I buy so many bowls and plates from TJ Maxx and Target- they have the best stuff πŸ™‚

  12. Robyn :) says:

OMG a banana bowl!! I had a yellow one made by Chiquita bananas when I was a kid!! Now I wish I still had it. I will have to look for one on Ebay. LOL

    • kissmybroccoli says:

How cute! Did it look like a banana or was it just a curved yellow bowl? Oh yeah, they have EVERYTHING on Ebay! I was looking for some old tupperware type stuff that my mom had when I was younger and got on Ebay…WOW!…Never knew “antique tupperware” could cost so much! Eek!

  13. I LOVE your banana bowl. seriously. I want one now. and obviously this looks delicious.

  14. Love that super cute bowl and protein sundae! I love to mix cottage cheese and yogurt for a good protein fix πŸ™‚

  15. I cannot get enough of Greek yogurt and protein powder. Can’t. Your yogurt banana bowl looks SO good! Love the bowl!

  16. elise says:

stonyfield has the best yogurt. well, i just love the company’s principles. and its organic.
soooo, those pics are looking gorgeous btw. i want! tiger’s a lucky kitty cat. i mixed peanut flour and greek yogurt today before adding it to oats. it was yummmmmmy πŸ™‚

ps here’s what i learned to make goji berries good. soak them. they plump up and get sweeter. wayyyyy better that way.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah! I tried that once and they were MUCH better! Didn’t think about it when I added them this time…hate how hard and chewy they are without soaking! :-/

  17. Laura says:

I want, no, I NEED this now! nomnomnom, thanks for the great idea!
Stonyfield yogurt is the best πŸ™‚
