WIAW in Real Time

Hiya peeps!

Ohh, that’s one I haven’t used before! πŸ˜‰

Well, it’s that time of week again…

Oh yeah, time to bring out the drool-worthy foodie pics and join in on my favorite weekly block blog party!

Please be sure to see our hostess with the most-est, Jenn, over at Peas & Crayons for other mouth-watering link ups and of course leave a little comment love!

I totally sucked at planning this week’s WIAW post and didn’t take pictures of all of my eats yesterday, so since I’m working night shift again this week, this post will soon catch up to real time…but for now, let’s start with breakfast!

I woke up this afternoon around 12pm, but forced myself to stay in bed until 1pm…

It was a gloomy rainy day today…the perfect sleeping weather, in my opinion.

After I finally rolled out of bed, I warmed myself up with a big mug of coffee with a little something extra!

I’ve heard Janetha sing the praises 0f adding a tea bag to coffee, so I thought I’d give it a whirl…not bad, kinda tasted like crumbled cookies were in the bottom of my mug! πŸ™‚

And of course, I had my tablets-o-sunshine…aka multivitamins!

While sipping my cookie cofftea (you liked that didn’t you?!), I started craving dessert…

And what better way to satisfy a dessert craving than with a big bowl of oats?

Last week, I ordered these sample packs of Nectar protein powders and I was so excited that the package came in today!

I mixed 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, and 1 packet of cappuccino whey protein, popped it in the microwave for 2 minutes, and then topped it with chocolate chips, a little whipped cream and cocoa powder and…

BAM!

Dessert!

Oh my gawd was this delicious! I am definitely buying this flavor! And I can’t wait to try the others!

Before heading into work tonight, I spied some turnips hiding out in the fridge that needed to be used up. Right away I knew I wanted to roast them, but I swear I changed my mind 5 times as to what I was actually going to make to eat!

In the end, I decided to roast the turnips and 1/2 a sweet potato in some olive oil and BBQ seasoning and throw them on a plate of spinach along with 3 egg hardboiled egg whites.

And then there was the dressing!

[print_this]

Peanut Butter BBQ Dressing: (makes 1/4 cup)

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Bragg’s liquid aminos (or soy sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and whisk well.

[/print_this]

The dressing paired perfectly with the salty sweet flavor of the BBQ seasoning! Seriously, don’t look at me like I’m crazy…peanut butter can make some of the best savory sauces…you HAVE to try this stuff!

So here we are…

All caught up to present time…

(Not that I’m typing this post up at work or anything…;))

Right now, I am enjoying the same snack I’ve been having all week…

Chobani yogurt and puffed millet aka, my “hunger eliminator”

And as for later…

there will be some leftover Lentil SoupΒ for dinner
(recycled photo…sue me!)

Thank God for the freezer…it smells just as delicious as it was when I made it in July!

And if I get the nibbles toward the end of my shift like I’ve been getting the past couple of days, I am armed with a bag of baby carrots…and I know how to use them! πŸ˜‰

What’s the best thing you ate today?

What is your go-to stop-the-hunger-in-it’s-tracks snack?

  1. Coffee-tea, huh? Will have to give that a go. Beautiful photo of the soup, btw. πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you, Jill! And yeah, it’s pretty tasty…I can’t wait to try it out with the chocolate black tea I just bought! Mmm!

  2. adding a tea bag to coffee? Sounds kind of like a cookie. I always find that coffee has a bit more “body” than tea does, if you catch my drift. My snow drift, if you add that holiday tea I see lurking in the background. Sounds good to me, perhaps I’ll try it. I prefer tea, but perhaps the combo might be good. Yes, cofftea. haha
Those protein powders look great. I’m going to get some now. When I’ve finished commenting.
Don’t you always just change your mind so many times before actually eating? I must look half mad taking things out and putting them back again.
I love puffed millet. I miss it here in Londontown.
I’ve got Zucchini bread in the oven. It WILL be the best thing I eat today if it ever bakes πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Mmmm, it’s been a while since I’ve had a good zucchini bread…I hate how loaded down with sugar a lot of recipes are! I meant to do some experimenting this summer, but yeah, now it’s November…I guess time kinda got away from me didn’t it? πŸ˜‰

Snow drift! Hahaha! I love your sense of humor girlie!

  3. I never heard of adding tea to coffee…may have to try that. The oats look delicious!

  4. Cappuccino oatmeal sounds amazing! I’ve been craving coffee flavoured foods ever since I stopped drinking coffee. πŸ˜› I think that’s a sign I need to start drinking it again.

I’ve never tried turnip before! What does it taste like?

It’s only 7 am here, so I haven’t eaten yet today, but the best thing I ate yesterday was apple pie oatmeal!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Mmm, apple pie oatmeal…another dessert turned breakfast! Love it!

Hmm, I guess turnips taste kind of like potatoes, but with a slightly bitter aftertaste…similar to rutabagas (if you’ve ever had them). Pairing them with a sweet dressing/sauce/seasoning or combining them with other roasted veggies that are sweet like sweet potatoes or parsnips (mmm, one of my faves) helps to balance the bitterness perfectly. You can eat them raw too, though I’ve never tried them that way, but I hear they taste a bit like radishes.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Wait a minute! STOPPED drinking coffee?! Blasphemy! I command you to go make a cup right now or we cannot be friends! πŸ˜‰

  5. Girl your eats always make me hungry!! All your food looks great! πŸ™‚

  6. Ok I MUST try the cofftea situation. YUM.

And cappuccino protein powder?! Why do I not have this?!

I also need to get puffed millet. Ok, do you see how long you just made my grocery list?! πŸ˜‰

    Happy WIAW!

  7. katie says:

I love your blue mug, I like the style of it ; )

    Millet puffs rock!

The sauce you created, oh yum!

    Happy WIAW! <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thanks, TJ Maxx special baby…they’ve practically stocked half my kitchen with mugs, bowls, and plates! Perhaps I should look into buying stock? πŸ˜‰

  8. mmm, the puffed millet intrigues me.

i haven’t eaten breakfast yet, but my socca pizza for dinner last night was pretty delicious! i kind of want to make it again tonight…

  9. Dessert look De.lish! Think I need to try that one. Like Cookie Madness in a bowl. πŸ˜‰

  10. Marlina says:

PB dressing!? That’s something new, I’ll have to give it a try sometime ! I mean, PB does make everything better πŸ˜‰

  11. lindsay says:

oh score! i might have to order those samples packets ASAP. what was your favorite?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

So far, I’ve only tried the cappuccino and the lemonade and both were awesome! I can’t wait to try more of the fruity flavors! A friend of mine told me she tried the lemon tea flavor and wasn’t much of a fan though so that one may be the last one I try! πŸ˜‰

  12. janetha says:

I have used that protein powder for years–love the peach and the lemonade!

  13. Lauren says:

I need to add that tea to my grocery list for next week — it’s one of my favorites! And that dressing looks to die for.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Girl, I started to panic a little bit yesterday when I realized that I only have a few more bags of this one left…and I haven’t seen it in ANY of the stores in my area! I might just have to make a trip to Nashville for some more…and of course hit up Trader Joe’s while I’m there. It would be a shame to go all that way and not… πŸ˜‰

  14. I need to find a good protein powder other than peanut flour. I don’t want egg white either since I already eat so many eggs. Your eats look perfect! I’m normally a peanut butter and apple fan when the hungry beast shows up. I hope you’re having a great day!

  15. That soup looks like it’s to die for!!

  16. Courtney says:

well that all looks fan freaking tastic! i am making a sweet potato salad for dinner tonight!

  17. I see the Peet’s coffee in the background! My favorite!

  18. Apple with a big ol’ blog of peanut butter usually does the trick. Those powders look awesome!

  19. A tea bag in coffee?? Might have to try it! The best thing I’ve eaten today is the mushroom stroganoff I’ve just had for dinner – your bowl of porridge looks so good too πŸ™‚

  20. WOW! that variety of flavors that protein powder has is.. wow! The chocolate truffle and vanilla bean torte one totally caught my eyes… πŸ˜‰

  21. Peanut butter BBQ Dressing sounds amazing! The best thing I ate today was mexican – my absolute favorite.

  22. Can’t wait to hear about those other protein powders… finding good tasting ones is such a crap shoot sometimes!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Amen! I’ve definitely had my fair share of bad experiences when it comes to protein! I swear it’s amazing how some companies are still in business!

  23. Hmm interesting idea with adding tea to coffee! I ought to give it a try sometimes… just to shake things up πŸ™‚ Your porridge looks rather tasty too!
Best thing I ate recently was the pork and sweet potato toss I made over the weekend

  24. Kris says:

I am a FREAK about trying new product, especially protein… I need to try this!

best thing I ate today?? SPRAY WHIP CREME!! It has been TOO long since I have had it, and got a package in the mail yesterday with the rice whip I ordered… in perfect time because I had a dinner party tonight… I made this beautiful dessert and topped it with whip creme, and all I wanted to do was spray it directly into my mouth!!

    so I did. πŸ˜€

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Funny you should mention that, because I may or may not have had a mouthful of whip cream just a minute ago! hahaha!

  26. Lindsay says:

Cherry chobani may be the greatest flavor EVER. I am seriously addicted to that stuff. It is so popular at the grocery store it usually is never in stock when I go, so I have to have my mom look around during the day for me haha. Dedication. Those protein powder flavors look really interesting. I may have to order myself some.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, the black cherry is by far my favorite! Have you tried it with cocoa powder mixed in? Makes it taste like black forrest cake! πŸ™‚

  27. I am so trying this dressing. Looks awesome.

  28. Mmm desserty oats. Looks so good. Great way to start the day.

  29. adding a tea bag to coffee and it tasting even better and like crumbled cookies? Im sold! πŸ™‚
