WIAW: Around the World in a Weekend

Hey guys!

I’m so glad to hear that so many of you were celebrating Pancake Day with me yesterday…and if you missed it…I allow you a free make up day! πŸ˜‰

Well, it’s that time of week again:

Happy What I Ate Wednesday!
B
e sure to head on over to Peas & Crayons and give Jenn a little comment love for being our gracious host each and every week!

Thanks to having Friday off as scheduled and asking off for President’s Day on Monday, I had a bit of a mini-vacation this past weekend, and after looking over the pics I accrued over the last few days, it seems I went on a little foodie trip around the world!

FRIDAY

It all started Friday night when BB came over and we both realized we were
STARVING…he suggested a little hole-in-the-wall place called Brunie’s that he claimed serves “the best bratwurst sandwiches”

And boy was he right on the money!

Served on a hot and toasty bun with warm German potato salad and a side of red cabbage…I thought I had surely died and gone to heaven Germany!

SATURDAY

When we woke up Saturday morning, it was cold and dreary outside…the perfect weather for a nice big bowl of oats:

Pumpkin peanut flour oats topped with dried cranberries and crack nuts

Later in the day after running some errands, all I was craving was a big plate of veggies and eggs so I broke out my latest TJ Maxx find and got to work:

Is this not the cutest thing ever?!

Ok, ok…so obviously it’s not cute enough to do the work for you…guess I need a little practice πŸ˜‰

After lunch, I got a craving for something sweet, so broke out the Godiva and plucked out this little guy:

Eat a plate of green and get rewarded with chocolate…that’s how it works, right?

Saturday night, BB and I met some friends for dinner at a new-t0-me Japanese hibachi place called Sakura across town:

And let me just say, we had the best cook in the building…so entertaining!

BB ordered the fried calamari and soft shell crab for our starters. This was my first time trying the crab…not bad, but the calamari was ahhhhmazing…I swear I think they used the same breading/spices that is used for mozzarella cheese sticks…and I’m not sure what was in the sauce but it tasted of sweet jammy goodness!

I chose the Korean short ribs for my entree and along with it came fried rice, noodles, and stir fry veggies…yeah, I ate about 5 bites of this and the rest went home in a box!

SUNDAY

Sunday morning was pancakes…of course…

But you’ve already seen those πŸ™‚

Or if you haven’t…go take a look…I’ll wait!

Sunday night, we met up with our friends again for dinner at our new Buffalo Wild Wings. This was only my second time there, but I knew before I even sat down, what I wanted:

Fried Pickles!…aka my kryptonite in the form of an appetizer πŸ˜‰

I wasn’t really in the mood for wings, so I decided to go with the 1/2 rack of ribs seasoned to a saucy perfection and a side of french fries drowning drizzled in ketchup.

Let me just say this was my first time having french fries in I don’t even know how long!

MONDAY

Monday morning, I stirred up this bowl of yum:

Cold leftover pumpkin peanut flour oats with plain Greek yogurt and cranberry syrup

Mmmm, I forgot how much I love “yoats” πŸ™‚

Monday afternoon, BB and I headed to the gym. I love having him as a workout partner…he helps motivate me to push harder AND I’m always learning new techniques or moves from him!

When we got done at the gym, we were both famished!

While he snacked on some salmon straight out of the can (yes I know, we were meant for each other, right?), I fried up some eggs for egg and avocado sandwiches:

I also threw in some steamed spinach and black beans mixed with salsa…and that plate satisfied every craving I had!

For dinner, we finally made it to that new Greek restaurant I was telling you guys about. It’s actually a hookah bar too and even more of a dive than the German place we went to on Friday, but I have to say the food was pretty decent.

My side salad with falafel and our shared basket of warm pita bread.

Then came our entrees!

His:

Khafta kabob with yellow rice, tabouli, and hummus

Hers:

Hummus platter with lamb gyro

And yes, that hummus WAS as creamy as it looks!

For some reason, every time I think about trying new restaurants, I always think I have to drive to Nashville. I forget how many places there are in my little town that I have yet to discover. I had so much fun this weekend “exploring the world” with BB…who knows, maybe one day we’ll get to do it in real life! πŸ™‚

What is your favorite international cuisine?

What’s the best thing you ate this past weekend?

Every one of your eats looks really really delicious! I love my fries drizzled with sauce and all these pictures are making me hungry!!!
hmm.. it’s pretty tough choosing my fave international cuisine but if I have live my whole life eating a cuisine besides Malaysian, I’d have to go with Japanese!

  2. I like your plan…eat the greens, get the chocolate…works for me!!

  3. Eric says:

This is the best and worst post i’ve read in a while…worst because now i’m sooooooo hungry!

  4. What makes me the most happy about this post is how happy you are! It really reminds me of when I first met Matt!!

Your food makes me a little happy too of course. Obviously <3

Love ya girl have a good week!

  5. Your breakfast looks divine! That egg contraption does look very neat! πŸ™‚ All your eats look scrumptious πŸ™‚

  6. My favorite international cuisine is Indian – yum! I am, once again, drooling over your pics!!! Thank goodness it’s lunch, although my green smoothie is looking a little dull compared to your eats!
    Happy Hump Day!

Haha! I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have felt my meal (planned or just eaten) paled in comparison to blog foodporn!

  7. That’s so awesome that you went to a hibachi place! One just opened up in my town and I’ve been dying to go.

Oh gosh I don’t think I could choose a favourite international cuisine… I guess it would have to be Japanese since I eat so much sushi haha. But I’m also obsessed with Greek/Mediterranean food. Pitas, hummus, souvlaki and feta cheese…. what more could you need?!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Amen sistah! And to think, the first time I tried hummus, I HATED it! And life without sushi? Well that would just be sad!

  8. Wooowezers! So much good food in this post!

  9. Alexis says:

All your eats look amazing! I need to get on that pumpkin cinnamon roll pancake asap. it looks awesome

  10. Lizzi says:

It is 9:08am and I want hummus and falafel and ribs and fries and nooooodles! Curse youuuuu!

Faves: Greek (I was born in Melbourne – the Australian one πŸ˜‰ – which has the biggest Greek population outside Greece… so a LOT of delicious eats. Greek food is just in my cells!), Italian, Indian, Thai, Korean, Malaysian, Mexican and.. maybe French. Haha okay so clearly I suck at choosing just one.

(i’m also OBSESSED with real homey American comfort food..my dream is to roadtrip across the South of the US and just…feast. hahah lucky for me, a few restaurants here are catching on to this food, and specialise in American diner/southern/comfort cooking…none in my city though πŸ™ but again, that’s probably lucky!)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I’m dying here! Obviously us foodies have a hard time with decisions when it comes to food! And, well…if you ever do make it to your foodie roadtrip across the south, you’d BETTER stop by my kitchen for some pancakes! πŸ™‚

  11. Oh my, you really did go around the world! Hibachis are the best kind of “fast food”…so entertaining!
And I have to say I love those little egg things! We have a frying pan/spatula set from there too, and it makes cooking eggs so much fun. I also have a piggy wisk from the same company!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahh, I saw the piggy whisk! I thought it was the cutest thing, but talked myself out of buying it…but only because I couldn’t hold one more item…buyers denial: I think if I go in without a cart, I won’t spend too much! Lol

  12. Julie says:

I want a poachie. That would make my life 10xs easier since I eat so many eggs.

And I haven’t seen those pancakes before, but I’m bookmarking them!

  13. What I ate looks shameful compared to your week! my veggie burgers were the highlight of my week, but it seems sad next to your eats! I LOVE Greek food, Mexican and Italian…American is pretty darn tasty too. I can’t decide!

  14. Every single meal you had was drool-worthy! I love that Sakura restaurant you went to. It looks amazing πŸ™‚

  15. Those Godiva chocolates looks amazing! Did you actually manage to restrain yourself and eat only one? If so you must have amazing will power! We would have scoffed the lot!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, yep I only ate one! The box is only dark chocolate and they are REALLY rich…the thought of having another would put me into a sugar coma! Lol
