I’ve Got Good News & Bad News

So which do you want first?

The way I like to do it, is give me the bad news first…then end on a happy note. Work for you guys? Of course it does!

Bad News?

Last night, after heading to bed around 10:30pm, I had the worst case of insomnia ever…and that was even AFTER I took something to help knock me out for the night. I just could not find a position that was comfortable for my back. I FINALLY ended up falling asleep on the couch around…are you ready for this…4:30am!

Good News?

I had one of the most amazing midnight…er, 1am snacks EVER…

Plain Chobani topped with carob powder, crumbled graham cracker cookies and mini marshmallows. I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how amazing this combo was!

I honed in on my artistic abilities on my new favorite app Draw Something…
If you play, look me up (kissmybroccoli)

C’mon, you can’t tell me that isn’t ELTON John! 😉

And finally, I got caught up on some of my favorite blogs!

Bad News?

I was forced to model some highly UNfashionable attire at the orthopedic’s office

No joke, they totally stood up on their own!

I’d like to think this would be similar to what MC Hammer would wear during the summer.

STOP…Hammer time!

Good News?

The photo shoot went nicely…and I even got some 5×7’s and wallets for myself 😉

It’s totally different being on THIS side of the imaging process!

Bad News?

I’m broken…

Well, not technically, but the doctor pointed out a few things from the x-rays.

The one on the left shows some spondyloysis at the level of my 5th lumbar vertebra. The doctor explained that this could be something I’ve had for years, but it is sometimes caused by stress fractures. I asked him if it could’ve happened while running and he said it was a possibility…which, I’ll admit is a little scary to think about, but he didn’t seem too concerned.

The other image shows the temporary abnormal curvature of my spine. Now, I’m not the best artist (refer to stickman example above) but the yellow line is supposed to represent the way my back SHOULD curve. The only reason it is as straight as it is is due to muscle spasms/tightness in my lower back.

Oh yeah, and I can’t go back to work for a week…I’m gonna go crazy!

Good News?

The doc introduced me to some new “friends”:

Meet Mr. Anti-Inflammatory, Mr. Muscle Relaxer, and Mr. Pain Killer

As someone who rarely takes anything for a headache, I’m a little nervous about my new gang, but at least they’ll keep the crazy down to a minimum.

And even though I had to wait an entire HOUR to get the prescriptions filled, I did hobble around a few aisles and found some simple pleasures:

Since I was a teenager, I’ve always gotten excited about new makeup…and I picked up the facial cleansing wipes so I don’t have to practically take a shower when washing my face at night (kinda can’t bend over the sink…womp, womp!)

Bad News?

The doc also ordered for me to undergo 4 weeks of PT. What? You don’t think that’s so bad? You DO know what that abbreviation stands for, right?

P.T. = Probable Torture!

I’ve done it before, they may make me better in then end, but I swear it’s just a mix of techniques to see how long before you cry out for your mommy! 😉

Good News?

Someone cancelled their appointment for tomorrow, so I was able to get in even sooner!

All I have to do is finish filling out this paperwork before tomorrow at 11am…must they REALLY ask about my sex life? Lol

And with that, I am already starting to feel Mr. Painkiller that I took a couple of hours ago…

Nighty night!

Is it easy for you to follow doctor’s orders and stay put or are you like me and get a case of ants in the pants?
Now I know how my mom always felt when we were little and she got sick…I feel so useless!

Gimme your best yogurt comination!
C’mon, you guys KNOW I need at least a few ideas! 😉

  1. oh darling – I can only stay put if i’m not supposed to.. tell me not to move and i cant stop wont stop! 😉

Feel bettahhhh!!!! Ask your doc if you can have some MSM and add some extra hot pepper [cayenne powder, red pepper flakes, actual peppers, hot sauce] to your eats to help as well maybe =) Though ask first since I can’t legally make you do this =) haha it helps me when i’m injured! <3

love you like woahhhh! catch up date soon! mwah!

  2. elise says:

dude, i was wondering about the midnight chob tweet and then the comment crave in the wee hours. i was up too because im on nights this week, haha.

    those shorts…awesome.
those xrays…boo 🙁 [i can see your colon, hehe]
i did PT for my back and it was actually really helpful. not always practical since i have to lift patients regardless of the proper form a lot. just make the most of it i guess.

So awesome! I felt like I was practically strutting to the x-ray department from my exam room…of course it was more like a drunken scuffle! And I know…the first thing I thought when I saw the x-rays was, “Oh my gosh, I’m full of poop!” Hahaha!

I know what you mean…it’s easy to teach good form, and everything can look so simple in a textbook, but every patient is different. And sometimes, it doesn’t matter if you do everything possible to maintain your posture and balance. Like just a few weeks ago, I gave a man my arm to hold as he sat himself up from the scan table, and out of nowhere he grabbed my other shoulder and pulled so hard I nearly fell over on top of him…and SURPRISINGLY that put me in my present state! :-/

  3. meredith says:

Oh boo! that just stinks! Hope you get some relief soon and glad you found yourself a nice midnight snack. looks yummy!

  4. Love the shorts, super styling! 🙂 Ugh, sorry on the PT, hope things get better soon!

  5. Emily says:

I know some people are against them, but girl…get yourself to a good chiropractor asap!

  6. janetha says:

ahhahaha twenty SIX new posts. i hope to god you didn’t read them all, i am a bore. still sorry about your back 🙁 glad you are getting fixed up!

  7. Wow so sorry to hear about that ! I would definitely get super antsy but I try to listen so that I can get better asap. I hope you feel better soon! That yogurt combo sounds amaaazing and you are good at draw something! I feel like a kindergartner just learning to draw haha

  8. katie says:

Awwww sorry to hear that girl, but just rest and do what you need to and you will be better!!!

Love that essie polish ( of course the nail polish whore I am, had to comment on that ) I have that color!

BB will take good care of you too 😉

I have no problem staying put if I have pain meds. They do not affect me normally, though. Like with Percoset, most people tell me it knocks them right out, but with me I can either sit on the couch and concentrate on a simple task for hours or lay down and be totally relaxed, but my mind works on overdrive. But if I can’t leave the house for more than 2 days I get ansy.

Not a yogurt combo, but I like to mix some ricotta cheese with vanilla and then add chocolate or carob chips. Sometimes I add in some honey, too.

I have seen carob powder in the health food section of the grocery store and have debated trying it. I do like carob, though.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow…for me it’s the opposite. It doesn’t necessarily knock me completely out, but if I stay awake, I almost feel like I’m sleep walking. I feel like I’m moving in slow motion and it takes me a while to comprehend things…basically it turns my mind into total mush. :-/

Ricotta is something I’ve never really experimented with. Actually, I think I’ve only bought it a couple of times and that was just to make lasagna…but your combo with the chocolate chips and honey sounds delicious!

I like to grab the carob if I’m having a snack at night…not that I’m afraid the caffeine in the chocolate will keep me up, but more because I seem to have the weirdest dreams if I have chocolate right before bed (and oranges…totally random) but I don’t with the carob…plus I like that roasted almost-like-coffee taste! 🙂

  10. Oh Heather, I am so sorry you are so miserable. Looks like you have a nice cocktail there to take care of all your pains. I am the worst at taking pain meds. I avoid it at almost all cost. They don’t make me feel good at all, but if they make me sleep through the pain then sign me up! I hope you have a quick recovery! Good luck tomorrow.

  11. lindsay says:

oh girl, not good. Fahsion faux paux! just kidding, you look sexy in it and your poor back. Not good. I hope you have a good male nurse… hehe.
    Feel better soon.

  12. I’m glad you got some answers from the doctor! And thank goodness it’s nothing too serious! I hope those meds help it feel better soon.

Hahaha I’m totally cracking up at your Elton John picture. I can definitely see the resemblance. 😉

My favourite yogurt combination lately is vanilla Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cocoa powder, bran flakes, granola, and dried coconut. Best night time snack ever!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you Chelsea…I’m hoping after this weekend, I’ll be feeling at least close to normal again.

I LOVE adding cocoa powder to yogurt…it’s like fooling yourself into thinking your having chocolate pudding. I haven’t tried mixing yogurt and cottage cheese together before…I may have to try that one…as long as I take my lactaid that is 😉

  13. Lou says:

Dude, you crack me up…. and SEXY shorts by the way, smoking 😉

Great you got some answers from the Dr though… I’m sure you will get some relief soon (in the meantime…. hurrah for pain killers!)

Favourite yoghurt combo…. vanilla soy yoghurt, tahini, dried figs and walnuts (sounds weird, but seriously, I LOVE this!)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hmm, interesting…I’m not a HUGE fan of tahini by itself, but I may have to try that….plus, anything with dried figs is delicious in my book!

Too bad they didn’t let me keep the shorts…I totally would’ve mailed them to you! 😉

  14. I love your blog! You’re really funny 🙂

PT does hurt, but (for me at least) it always feels better afterward! I’ve never had trouble following doctor’s orders before, but this summer I’m going to be having two surgeries with 4 weeks of practically bedrest each. I don’t know how I’m going to do it! Lots of blogging haha.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you Miranda! I love making people laugh. I have to say PT wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be…they used electro-therapy on me along with a heating pad…it was pretty relaxing (well, as relaxing as you can be with a constantly flexed back muscle!)

Good luck with the surgeries…I know being off my feet for that long would kill me too! Thank god for blogging! 🙂

Yikes! I saw the word “spondylosis” and immediately cringed! One of the most common patient referrals we get from PT is Lumbar Spondylosis (I work for a DME company that specializes in E-Stim, specifically IFC). I’ve heard patient’s tell me how painful it is! Hope you get some relief soon 🙂
