WIAW: The His and Hers Edition

Hey guys!

Sooooo…didja miss me?

Sorry about leaving you guys hanging for Pancake Sunday, but unfortunately I had an e-date with Uncle Sam hosted by the Service de Internal Revenue which ended in me lacking the brain cells necessary to measure ingredients.

Note to self…next year, don’t procrastinate!…haha, yeah right!

But you had to know I missed you guys…and look, I’m back just in time to party!

Be sure to head on over to Peas & Crayons for all the deets on the biggest block blog party to hit the interwebs!

Plus, you know…it’s always fun to drool over other people’s food! πŸ˜‰

This week, I decided to do things a little differently. I’ve been doing some thinking lately and as ashamed as I am to admit that the idea had to come in the form of a veggie pizza slap in the face, I’m willing to face the truth…

Remember mine and BB’s Friday the 13th pizza?

My plate of yummy cheesy (and vegetable-y) goodness!

And then BB ate the REST of the pizza!

All of a sudden it dawned on me…I’m not feeding my man enough!

After being on my own for a while and learning to cook for one, once BB and I made it official, I thought,

“Well, I guess now I’m cooking for two!”
Only that’s not the case when you have a man who works out 4-5 days a week thus giving him the title of “bottomless pit”

So this weekend, I experimented a bit…and took pictures for comparison πŸ™‚

And so the His & Her’s Edition of WIAW was born!

Two slices of French toast with 1/2 a banana and about 1 tablespoon of PB

FOUR slices of French toast with 1/2 a banana and probably 2 tablespoons of PB!

Spinach topped with Salmon salad*, tomatoes, and 1/4 an avocado

*super simple recipe coming soon!

Spinach topped with salmon salad x 2, tomatoes, and 1/2 an avocadoΒ

The difference is subtle…but his bowl is actually about two times the depth of mine.

Five egg WHITES mixed with Incredible Greens, two slices of toast with PB,
and 1/2 an orange

Three WHOLE eggs, two slices of toast with 1/2 an avocado, and 1/2 an orange

Two of Jamie Eason’s turkey muffins*, roasted asparagus, and steamed carrots

*Seriously, if you haven’t tried these yet, make them NOW! They are so simple to make, so filling, and the spices can easily be switched around for endless flavor combinations!

FOUR turkey muffins, roasted asparagus, and steamed carrots

Believe it or not, he only ate half his carrots…I finished the rest!

Oh, and I just HAVE to show you the ninja pic I snuck in the car the other day:

That would be ONE Dr. Pepper and TWO Red Bulls to my ONE liter of water!Β

Where DOES he put it?…but more importantly, how were his eyes not bugging out from all that sugar?! Lol

One thing I love about BB is that he will eat ANYTHING I set in front of him….he is not the least bit picky, but I just have to remember that he is my “growing boy” and I have to amp it up a bit in the kitchen if I’m going to compete with his metabolism.

So now…

Now, I just need to know where I can get some industrial-sized cookware so I can start getting in touch with my inner cafeteria lady! πŸ˜‰

If you are in a relationship, how do you prepare meals for you and your significant other so you are both satisfied?

Fill me in! What exciting things did you get into over the weekend?

Oh AND check it out…

  1. this is fantastic! I actually can’t imagine having to cook for more than one… I only really learned to cook when I started living on my own.
aaand now I really want that veggie pizza.

  2. Awesome post. I love the his and hers, I always note his and hers on my blog too. Men can really pack it away!!!

Hilarious post – love it!! πŸ™‚ Since living with my boyfriend (about 3 years now) who used to be a really picky eater and who has become a liiittle bit more flexible, I mostly cook meals where I can easily vary the carb portion or the protein part. Plus I also had to learn to “share” the fridge πŸ˜‰ and learn to shop differently! At least my man is NOT happy with a fridge full of veggies and mason jars of quinoa and nuts, so I do buy more convenience stuff, more pasta and more frozen pizzas than I’d like. But I also don’t want to force my eating on others so I have to accept that he is fine with eating more “crap”. Every little bit of veg or healthy variation that I can throw into his dishes is a success to me! πŸ™‚

Ahh, I always feel so accomplished when I get my loved ones to try new vegetables…my SUPER picky aunt had some of the steamed asparagus I made for Easter lunch and surprisingly enough, liked it! I was sitting at the table at the time, but you better believe I did a happy dance later! πŸ˜‰ Like you, I don’t want people to feel like I’m forcing my beliefs on them, but I love it when they make healthier choices due to my example!

Yes, it feels like SUCH a victory, right?! I almost fell over when my boyfriend requested a veggie chili that I had made before … or when he admitted that he really liked my gluten-free banana bread with coconut oil (both were NOT fed to him but he voluntarily picked them up when they were “just standing there in the kitchen” and he was too lazy to cook something for himself πŸ™‚ ).
On the other hand, suddenly you have to share all those yummy things πŸ˜‰

  4. Heather, thanks for the info on Incredible Greens. I went to their site and requested a price. I’ll see what happens!

  5. Loved this! It’s funny how guys tend to eat SO much more than we do. My brother eats a lot and I’m just like.. how can you still be hungry?!?! And he like never eats ANY veggies or fruit.. πŸ˜›

All your eats look super yummy! πŸ™‚

  6. katie says:

This post is awesome! Oh men they can eat SO much and it’s like, Where the hell does it go?!!

Loving the his and her french toast, there are definitely days where i could be the “his” and eat 4 slices!

LOVED every single one of your comments you left me, love your comment sprees!! haha!

    Happy Wednesday! <3

  7. Ugh no fair! Sometimes I wish I had a guy’s metabolism! πŸ˜‰ Although sometimes I really feel like I do… last night I went for all you can eat sushi and I even surprised myself with how much I could eat haha!

  8. I like the his and hers theme! I don’t know how guys can eat and eat and not gain a pound. I have to work out, run or do something like crazy to maintain weight let alone lose any πŸ˜› Ugh. Your version of the french toast with pb looks absolutely decadent!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I know! If I breakdown and eat some cookies, I swear I can feel my hips getting bigger…of course that’s probably because I can never just eat like one or two cookies! πŸ˜‰ Lol

  9. Dudette says:

I love the his/hers idea! Awesome pictures!

  10. Congrats on being featured on Foodista!
& all of these eats look simply AMAZING. Wow. I am jealous.
And I love how you compared both of you guys’ eats. It’s awesome.

  11. Seriously, watching my boys eat freaks me out! Crazy how much boys eat! Everything looks delicious! Congrats on getting done with your taxes! That’s a HUGE accomplishment!

  12. it really is amazing how much more guys have to eat than girls! its good you are able to adapt his meals from yours though!

  13. Haha!! The trick is to not let the size of the hers portion grow to match his portion (I have to really focus NOT to dot that). πŸ™‚ Love the comparison photos!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Isn’t that the truth?! When we first started dating, I didn’t pay enough attention and a few months later, my jeans were starting to feel tight! Haha!

  14. Amber Schaefer says:

I really love the his & hers WIAW! πŸ™‚

  15. You read my mind! I so need to do this. My BF is a foodie and he’s slowwwwwwly starting to eat healthier, but I covet the stuff he eats sometimes, and I need to post about it because 90% of the time we eat similar things, but with modifications for our tastes/needs.

  16. HAha you gotta love a males metabolism! That’s just like my brother, he will eat anything x 302842349823 and not gain an pound.

  17. love this post! my boyfriend and i are the same way. so fun to see side by side like this!

  18. Great post! Haha. When I am cooking for my fiance I usually have to make two completely different meals, as he won’t eat what I eat! It’s awesome that you two share the same taste in food…makes cooking easier for sure!

Hope you have a great week:)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

It DOES make it a lot easier! I can imagine what you’re going through though…my dad is the same way. If it’s even remotely good for you, he won’t touch it with a ten foot pole! So you know what I do? I sneak the veggies in, ask him how he likes it, and then spring the news on him when he says it was good! Muhahaha!

  19. Jessica says:

The salmon salad looks amazing…can’t wait for the recipe!

  20. oh my gosh i love your idea of his and hers wiaw!! so cute!! (and really tasty eats!!)

  21. Ah, yes, the “man” metabolism! When I make dinner, I’ll normally eat a serving and my Dad will eat 3 or 4. It’s crazy! I prefer to cook for myself because of that actually πŸ™‚
Dr. Pepper is tasty though, can’t fault him for that!

  22. Your pics are too cute with the his and hers. I love it!

  23. Tt in nyc says:

In my relationships i always am happy to cook more of what i am making anyways- my only “rules” were i dont/wont cook meat/chicken/fish- so if he cant manage a veg meal than he had to buy/cook/deal with the meaty bits. (as a veg not only do i not support it but i went veg as a kid- i would prob give someone food poisoni g!!)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, BACK AWAY FROM THE CHICKEN!! Those rules seem acceptable enough to me…sharing food with others should be a happy time, no need to make someone uncomfortable!
