Juicin’ June & Other Goals

Happy first day of June my little bunnies!

[source]

Did you guys remember to say “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit” this morning?

I know it’s a British tradition (shout out to my UK readers), and although I’m not really superstitious, it’s something my family has done for years! Of course, I did NOT remember this morning so I guess I’ll just be on the lookout for black cats and broken mirrors 😉

So, with this year already at the halfway point, I’ve been doing some thinking…

After reading this post by Amanda and this post by Colleen, I started considering the making a few goals of my own. While I’m not usually a goal-setter…I mean, how many of last year’s New Year’s resolutions did I keep?

The answer…um, 0.5?

But like my girls Janetha and Lindsay, I AM a list maker…and a wanna-be artsy fartsy type.

So…allow me to present to you what took up about 4 hours of my afternoon today:

Ta-daaaaaaa!

And in case you’re wondering, I AM still picking dried bits of mod-podge off my fingers! 😉

So why did I spend the majority of my Friday off, pouring over a table covered in
half a dozen magazines with scissors in my hand and cut out letters stuck to my face (don’t ask)? Well, I think there are a few things you should know about me…

1. I have an EXTREMELY poor memory

2. I am a visual person when it comes to ANYTHING

3. Ever since I got back from BLEND I’ve had a really hard time regaining my focus and direction (guess my brain’s still on vacation)

So now, I not only have a constant reminder of my goals (that fits oh so perfectly on my refrigerator door) with lots of pretty pictures to look at, but it is also something to hold me accountable and motivate me in a positive way.

June Goals:

Mind:
Finish reading Mockingjay
Paint a picture (without a tutorial)
Go ONE WHOLE DAY un-plugged…no internet, no Netflix, NO CELL PHONE!

Yeah, pretty sure that last one’s gonna kill me, but I have become SO dependent on my connection to social media lately that it has really gotten sad and that really needs to change! BB doesn’t even have to ask what I’m doing half the time…he knows I’m Instagram stalking! 😉

As for Mockingjay…I’m halfway through today!

Body:
Juice every other day
Aim for 4 liters (128oz) of water each day
Strength training at least 3 days a week
Run 5K at LESS THAN a 9:00 pace

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve had a good run…barring any MORE self-inflicted injuries, I hope to get back that inner peace I used to find out on the pavement.

Blogging:
Host a guest post on KMB
Finish reviewing NuNaturals liquid stevia AND post the giveaway (oh, you LIKE that one, don’t you? ;))

Now I know you’re probably wondering about the whole juicing thing…but Heather, you don’t have a juicer!

Well, I do now!

BB and I went into K-Mart last weekend to check out patio furniture…they didn’t have anything I liked so we ended up wandering around for a bit. BB headed straight for the tools while I just happened to find myself in the kitchen aisle (I know, who knew, right?).

After about 15 minutes of perusing, I turned to leave the aisl and track down BB when all of a sudden, a yellow clearance tag caught my eye…

20% off baby!!

And, since I made a trip to Sam’s Club last night JUST to pick up some carrots in bulk, I decided to break it in today!

Yum!

Lemon Parrot Juice

Parrot juice…get it?

It was soooo fresh and delicious…took me straight back last summer in Cali!

What goals do you have in mind for June?

So, who wants to be my very FIRST guest poster?! 😀

The carrot juice sounds good! The carrot juice mustache…hahahaha….”got juice”!!! I love, love, love the poster. You always made the cutest posters when you were in High School.

Aww, thanks mom! I was telling BB that it totally took me back to Spanish class with all those magazine cut outs! 🙂

Next time you’re over, I’m DEFINITELY making you juice! I think you’ll really like it!

  2. I am dyyying to try some fresh juice ! It looks so delicious!

  3. I’d love to be your first guest poster! I guess that means I’d have to figure out what I want to say though, huh? (I think that can be arranged) 😉
And I too love me some goal / dream boards. They definitely give a sense of focus. I think I’m due for another one soon!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awesome! I’d LOVE to have you on here! Just let me know what you want to do…a random post, a “get to know you” type post, or if you want, I could make up a list of questions to help introduce you! 🙂

  4. Those are some awesome goals! And I love your collage! I made one a few years ago, but I haven’t made one since. I attempted to over the winter, but I only got as far as cutting out a few pictures haha. 😛

Also I’m so jealous of your juicer! That’s a pretty good price for one, even not on sale. Do you like it so far?

My goals for June are to run 7 miles and to try out new recipes!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I am in LOVE with it! I’ve only used it three times, but it’s so easy to use AND clean! And…since I’m a toddler, I find it amusing to just throw random fruits and veggies in it and see what comes out! 😉

Good luck with your goals this month! Feels like it’s been FOREVER since I ran 7 miles…and I used to do it once a week!

  5. Ahh I want a juicer so badly now! I love fresh juice – I won’t drink it any other way, haha. But seriously, what a great way to kick off summer. Goals and all.

If you’re still looking for guest posts, I’d love to throw my name in! Let me know if there’s anything in particular you would want a post about 🙂

  6. We have the same juicer, but in white, it’s so fun! But a big pain in the butt to wash….I hope you have a dishwasher unlike me 🙁

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I DO have a dishwasher, but so far, I’ve just been rinsing it off right after I use it and it seems to work just fine…I know if I put it in the dishwasher, I’ll forget about it and then not have it clean when I need it!

  7. Hahaha I love the clever name of that juice 😉

I think it’s a great idea to visualize your goals! My big one for the month (which may or may not be a semi-repeat from last month) is to keep track of our grocery budget!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I don’t blame you for rolling it over from last month. For a foodie to be given a grocery budget…that’s like telling a person with a gambling addiction that he can only buy 2 lotto tickets each week! Lol

  8. Carly says:

I want to get a juicer; but then again I don’t want it to become one of those kitchen gadgets that I use once or twice and then forget about (hehe, maybe this list includes a kitchenaid mixer and a spiralizer) but if I keep seeing your recipes for juices it may inspire me to put some money together(: My goal for June and this summer in general is to go to yoga at least once a week; maybe i’ll be able to touch my toes soon!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I thought about getting a Kitchenaid mixer for a while and then I stopped and asked myself, “How much to you REALLY bake, Heather?” And I actually owned my food processor for about a year before I ever took it out of the box! Now it’s one of my most used appliances…which may be surpassed by the juicer in the near future! I think this is something I’m really going to stick with. It’s so much fun to throw different fruits and veggies in a see what happens! 🙂

Good luck with your yoga goal! I remember when I used to not be able to touch my toes…just takes practice!

  9. elise says:

i thought it was just rabbit rabbit. do you say it 3 times?

ps i have a jack lalane juicer too 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I always thought it was just twice too until I Googled it…and Google is never wrong, right? 😉

  10. I gotta get a juicer!! I’m just afraid everything will end up tasting like grass and I’ll throw it out.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

As long as you remember to add some sort of fruit to each batch, you’ll be fine. I thought I’d squeak by with a fruit-less juice over the weekend (pretty sure you saw it on IG) before I went grocery shopping and it tasted straight up like freshly mown grass! And of course, in true I-can’t-wasted-anything form, I drink it all! Ick! Luckily I redeemed myself this morning with a mix of some greens, cucumber, celery, AND APPLE!

    You’re a real good juice model 🙂
