It’s ok “my precious”, she didn’t mean it! 😉

Two loaves of organic bread for only three dollars?! Thank youuuuu, Kroger! Half points for almost matching the manicure!
Like using your FREE basil and FREE bread to whip up one HELL of a roasted veggie sandwich!
That would be kale, portobello, cheese, tomato, a basil with homemade pasta sauce.
Like deciding that one little can of tomato paste was all your homemade sauce needed to reach that thick consistency you were looking for.
FYI, the original recipe has been edited. 🙂
Bonus points for matching the manicure!

Hooray for light bounces AND recipe coming tomorrow!
Like finally taking a break from the tomatoes and throwing something #strangebutgood into your grilled cheese sandwich!
This was SO good, there was NO WAY I could wait till Friday to share…warm blueberry basil sauce, ooey gooey melty cheese, crisp toasty bread…a little bit of sweet and savory HEAVEN!
Blueberry Basil Grilled Cheese
Prep Time: 3-5 minutes
Cook Time: 8-10 minutes
Keywords: grill microwave entrée sandwich blueberries cheese basil summer
Ingredients (Serves 1)
- 2 slices whole wheat bread
- olive oil spray (or butter)
- 1-2 slices sharp flavored cheese (I used white cheddar, but Asiago would also be a good choice…or goat cheese for the less adventurous! ;))
- 1/3 cup blueberries
- 1/8 teaspoon arrowroot powder (or preferred thickener, ie: cornstarch, xanthan gum)
- 1 1/2 teaspoon honey
- 1-2 Tablespoons fresh chopped basil
1. Heat a non-stick skillet (or grill pan) over medium heat and coat with cooking spray.
2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine blueberries, honey, and basil and cook on high for 1 minute.
3. Remove from microwave and stir in arrowroot powder (or choice thickener)
4. Take your bread slices and coat one side of each with a spritz of olive oil (or spread with butter).
5. Place one slice of bread spritzed (or buttered) side down in your skillet and top with cheese slice(s).
6. Spoon blueberry basil sauce over cheese and place the other side of bread on top.
7. Cook for 4-5 minutes or until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted before flipping and cooking an additional 4-5 minutes on the other side.
Bonus points for matching the manicure!
What can I say? I’m easily amused! 😉
Be sure to head on over to Meghan and Katie’s blogs and see what everyone else is reviewing and marvelous-ing this Monday morning!
Tell me something marvelous from your week! Oh, and feel free to link up some pesto recipes! 😉
Ohhh my goodness, basil is one of my FAVORITE herbs! (Cilantro is a close second I think…) that sandwich sounds epic! And YAY for free basil & bread! Food tastes better when it’s free 😉
AaaaaasaaaaMEN! And seriously, I was just telling my friend at work (the one who gave me the basil) that it has now officially booted cilantro off the top of my favorites list! Lol
I’m in major need of a manicure. At one point this weekend, I thought I was going to actually give myself one. Nope, didn’t happen. But I love how yours kinda matches your grilled cheese! 😉
I think cheese and jam all warmed has to be the best combo. those chocolate bars sound awesome, super bitter dark chocolate still tastes so good to me. have a great Monday!
Oh yum! That sandwich sounds delicious. I love freebies too – I think it makes the product taste nicer too when you know you haven’t paid anything for it!!
I really need to do my nails! Love your manicure!
Right?! I’ve always said that about free food! Haha!
My horribly chipped nails could really use a manicure about now – I’ll get around to it eventually 😉 And I love the look of that sandwich! I love blueberries and cream cheese, so blueberries and cheddar sounds pretty amazing.
I want that veggie sandwich recipe!
It’s not really a recipe…all I did was grill a portobello cap in my grill pan until it got soft, topped it with some cheese and then layered it up with all the other stuff…easy peasy! 🙂
Marvelous indeed my friend! Six bucks is incredible. I find that veggies cost significantly more at farmer’s markets than my local grocery store. womp womp
Awww, that stinks! I know some of the other farmer’s I’ve bought from tend to do a bit of price gouging too…no bueno!
I need to get my hands on the pink nail varnish!
EVERYthing looks delicious, Heather! Especially the roasted veggie sandwich. The lasagna looks wonderful too. Did you or will you post the recipe? Love lasagna. Have a great day!
Thank you, Fran! I posted the recipe yesterday! Here’s the link: http://www.kissmybroccoliblog.com/2013/09/24/roasted-eggplant-portobello-lasagna/ 😀
*drool*. Also hell yeah, why is free stuff so great?!
Cute nail polish colors! I like them a lot!
And that blueberry basil grilled cheese looks superb! Holy amazingness.
Why is homemade pasta sauce so good. I literally just eat it as a meal itself sometimes. Who needs pasta when you have the sauce?!
Right?! I was just thinking the same thing the other day when I was trying to think of what to put it on! Bread…eggs…SPOON! Haha!
I am SO adding blueberries to my next grilled cheese! Yum!!
Also, isn’t Ezekiel bread so stinkin’ good? It is by far my favorite bread! It definitely makes for awesome grilled cheese, too!
OMG! All the food looks sooooooo good, Heather!
Here’s a link to my pesto recipe for you 🙂 Hope you like it.
Whenever I can, I prefer using pine nuts in pesto, that time I just didn’t have them at hand 🙂
Thank you so much for linking Lena! I actually made it just the other day…though I put a little Heather spin on it and it came out GREAT! It was actually my first time making “traditional” pesto too! 🙂
That’s great! What was the Heather spin? 🙂
Nothing huge…just a little tweak! I’ll be posting about it tomorrow! 🙂
Hummm something marvelous? Well I made a bajillion things! I made homemade Harissa which turned out AMAZING and you’d hate it because it was spicy but that didn’t stop me from licking the spatula (and then coughing quite violently because it was spice—ay!).
And I made Camper Chow which will knock your SOCKS off because it’s a brilliant mix of puppy chow and s’mores: http://www.treatswithatwist.com/2013/09/camper-chow.html
And … well I could drone on and on about my amazing new body products I bought at Target. 🙂
Amazing? Body stuff? Target??! Tell me! Wait, don’t tell me….no, TELL ME!
Confession #1: I had to Google harissa…because obviously I live in a hole…a hole that is very far away from Mexico and other latin culture! 😉
Confession #2: I stared at that CRACK for a good two minutes before I could even form words to leave you a comment! Holy SHIT!
1) I’M SO JEALOUS OF YOUR MANI. Starbucks doesn’t let you have painted nails and it breaks my heart.
2) I gotta have that grilled cheese. Everything looks NOMNOMNOM!
Have a great week!
Really? Man, that’s crazy! I mean, I work at a HOSPITAL and can have painted nails for crying out loud! And for that Starbucks, you have been labeled a fun sucker! lol
3 dollars for 2 loaves of ezekial bread, awesome!! Those are the kind of deals I look for. And I love the farmers market, Ill be sad to see it go but I think the one by my house is open through October, yay!
I heart you and your delicious sandwiches, your farmers market produce (Viva la summer!), and your perfectly coiffed and matching nails.
I love a good old blueberry grilled cheese!
That looks like a beautifully delicious grilled cheese (and I love that almost everything in this post matches the manicure!)
Mmmmm… I have been craving tomato sauce hardcore. Fall, perhaps?Except it’s 80 degrees…
Oh my lord that 1st sandwich looks bomb! Like I want to eat it right this second! The blueberry basil also looks tasty!
Oh my lord!! I neeeed those sandwiches. Holy freaking crap. Both of them sound so good! Although I must admit, I am slightly intimidated by the basil and bloob one. I don’t often mix sweet and savory…Im that girl who prefers her sweet taters with ketchup and not nut butter if you catch my drift!
Both of your sandwiches look incredible! I love the combo of blueberry, basil and cheese! That looks SO good! I’ll have to try it.
I love farmer’s markets because you can get so much produce for such a little price! I miss ours because I could get a week’s worth of produce that would feed our family for under $20!
Um, a free loaf of Ezekiel?! You definitely had luck on your side this weekend! Jealous.
And that chocolate edamame bar sounds heavenly! I buy the dark chocolate covered edamame from Trader Joe’s and it’s one of my all-time favorite treats. I’m actually embarrassed to admit how quickly I go through those little cartons!
If there was anything exciting me almost [read: there isn’t] as much as grammar it’d be manicure matching food :D. All I’d be able to offer on that terms today would be – not even intentionally – manicure matching my running short and (!) the dress I wore for my [kind of] graduation ceremony later in the day. You beat me to it by colour-coordinating your foods to your nails, though ;). I’m currently trying to decide on which Essie polish to buy next and you didn’t make my decision any easier adding two more options. However, if I was to simply match them with my favourite food … hm, not sure how I’d feel about kabocha green nails, though 😉 …
Marvelous about my weekend were a walk in the woods with my parents and dad hugs – you know me.
Ahhhhhh! Dad HUGS!!! Oh, MP, I wish you could SEE the smile on my face right now! It was already there once I started reading your comment, but now it’s taking up my entire face! xoxoxo
Hmmm, maybe not green but orange kabocha nails just might work! Hmmm, that might just have to by MY next color…obviously the seasonal denial extends past food since I refuse to give up my summer manicure colors! 😉
Essie is my favorite! I definitely notice that it stays on longer…except at my new job where I break my nails once a week now. Sad days!!
I love how things matched your nails and how awesome is it that you are getting free food left and right?? Marvelous indeed! 🙂
Oh girl, I feel your pain! It is SO hard for me to keep my nails looking good while working at the hospital. I’ve been doing really well keeping them up since I got back from vacation, but after ONE day of going without polish, I swear half of them ripped and/or broke! I had to bite the bullet and cut them all off yesterday! Boo!
All that produce for $6?! No way!!! I love shopping at my farmers’ market, but I never get deals as good as that!
Also both those sandwiches look amazing. I love the looks of the blueberry and cheese one – cheese and fruit just pair so darn well together.
I LOVE your nail colors! So pretty.
I am way jealous of your Ezekiel bargain!
Ohhh mama, that grilled cheese – like heaven on a palate. At least in my imagination. I haven’t made it yet but oh man, I bet it is glorious. Oh and your nails – LOVE the color!
6 dollars for all that produce??? 😯 Okay, I seriously have to start cozying up to my farmers a little bit… I have to pay 6 dollars for one medium sized bag of sweet carrots. Maybe I need to start coming at the end of the day and keeping my fingers crossed that they’re just wanting to get rid of some things 😉 And I can’t even talk about that sandwich right now. It’s almost time for bed and if I think about it too long, I’ll have visions of blueberries and cheese dancing through my head all night long.
I can’t really see how that would be a bad thing…unless you wake up in the middle of the night with blueberry sauce all over your sheets! 😉 Six dollars for ONE bag of carrots? Dude! Are they made of gold?! I started visiting this particular booth a couple of months ago and the lady and I just happened to strike up a conversation…since then, she always recognizes me and instead of pricing everything out individually for me, she just gives me a price for whatever I shove in my bag! Of course, on the days she’s not there, I have to pay “common people” prices! Lol
blueberries in a sandwich… oh Geebuz what will you come up with next? Secretly I’m hoping its another epic pancake recipe!
Well you’re in luck, because it seems like a little six month hiatus was all I needed to rejuvenate my pancake making self….I’ve been scribbling down ideas ALL WEEK! Any special requests? 😉
That sandwich sounds delicious!! free food? —-> jealous!! 🙂
I will LOVE this recipe! Definitely something I’ll be making 🙂
You are the sandwich queen! Totally making these grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner this week!
Aww, thank you! And I’d love to know what you think…though I’m of the opinion that you really can’t go wrong once melty cheese is involved! 😉
Whew, what a score for you! That’s one of the BEST reasons to shop at the Farmer’s Market I love it!! Also you’ve given me lots to think about when it comes to experimenting with my grilled cheese…..hmmm 🙂
LOVE YOU! I have been so absent over here, just got baby busy, haha!
LOVE the nails! I have both of those colors and I love how you did them together, so pretty!
The sandwich looks to die for! You are the sandwich queen and pancake queen now!
Love ya girl! I hope all is well! <3

Gosh girlie, I miss you so much! It may not have worked out with us all getting together, but you and I should definitely try to plan something soon…even if we just meet halfway like we did last time!
