A Very Green Day

Hey guys! Hope you are all enjoying your Saturday! I have to say mine is going rather peachy! 😉

The other day as I was driving to work, no not THAT day, but another day, I heard something on the radio about a green event going on here in Clarksville. They said something about local farm stands, a recycled art contest, and free goody bags to the first 100 people to show up…welllll, you don’t have to twist my arm! 😉

I got pretty excited about it before I even arrived! For those of you unfamiliar with the south, it really is hard to find people who are interested in sustainability, renewable resources, or even recycling. I think a lot of it is due to plain ol’ ignorance when it comes down to it. People don’t understand how easy it is to make certain lifestyle changes that can benefit the environment, their health, and their wallets!

Anywho, enough ranting! How bout some pics?!

First up, the recycled art contest put on by some of the local elementary schools:

A “quilt” made out of woven plastic grocery bags

A recreation of some buildings from downtown

A hornet made from plastics and empty TP rolls

T-Rex! Love his bottle cap teeth!

 The “Good”

Versus the “Bad”

And the bridge between!

 A recycled recycling plant

I loved all the little details!

And I couldn’t get enough of the “bolt men”!

Seriously, how flippin’ cute are these guys?!

They even had their very own stop light!

So I’m sure you guys can guess which one I voted for! 😉

After checking out the art contest, I perused some of the other stands.

I found this stand selling local honey, jams, fresh eggs, and veggies

And well, I couldn’t turn down $2 for a dozen!

Then I found these guys! Guess where Heather’s getting her grass-fed beef from now on?

I already pre-ordered 4 pounds! 😉

Then I admired a local artist’s take on old pieces of jewelry.

All made from old bracelets, earrings, etc! Aren’t they beautiful?

I learned a lot about some of the new ZERO ENERGY homes being built on the base
(I live very close to Ft. Campbell)

And I talked to a woman about “clean” household cleaning supplies.
I REALLY need to look into this…I was sure to get a catalog from her!

On the way out, I admired all the pretty things that I would kill if I took them home! 🙁

 Gorgeous!

Then I spotted tomato plants for a BUCK!

And of course, one screamed “Take me with you!”

He fit nicely in Andy’s cup holder!

Just keep this little guy in your prayers! I swear I have a black thumb!

He needs a name!

Any suggestions?

Eggcellent Entertainment

Happy Friday everybody! Got any exciting plans for the weekend? Do tell since I have no life and would like to live vicariously through each one of you! 😉

I realized today (ok, I’ve actually known this for a while) that I’m a little weird. Well, at least to NORMAL people anyways. Let’s face it, we food bloggers are a rare and misunderstood breed! Am I right, or am I right?

Some of my “weird foodie quirks”:

Most of my food revolves around the color green

I get THISEXCITED over a nearly overflowing bowl of oat bran
And now I am craving oat bran!

I have started a heated romance with Kombucha
It’s seriously all I want to drink now! Good for my body…bad for my wallet! :-/

I think a butternut squash stuffed with tofu, chickpeas, and chocolate peanut butter is totally sexy 😉

I make smoothies with mixed salad greens because I’m all out of spinach
Btw, you can’t tell the difference at all!

I think beans make a perfect dessert

Just say the word “hummus” around me and see what happens!

But one thing that certainly is NOT weird: recording my first Cadbury Egg experience! Nope, not weird in the slightest keeping in mind the steep price of this little creme filled nugget! 😉

So what did I think of the creamy goodness that has people raving the moment Easter season approaches? Well, you’ll just have to watch the video!

What are your plans for this weekend?
We’re supposed to have great weather tomorrow before it starts raining again on Sunday so I hope to get out and enjoy it!

I’ll Tell Ya What I Want

What I really really want…is to get that Spice Girl song stuck in your head for the rest of the day! 😉

[source]

Seriously though, when’s the last time you told anyone, or even just yourself exactly what you wanted and then did something about it? For me, it’s been too long!

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to find a “balance” in my life. Since the move, the wreck, and everything in between, my life has been…dare I say, a little hectic? Needless to say, I’ve been stressed to the max and this morning, I just had to do something about it.

I woke up this morning at 6:00am to the sound of my alarm and my workout clothes waiting for me next to the bed….but I didn’t want to workout. My muscles were sore from “trying on” Level 3 of The Shred yesterday (hello pylometrics!) and all I really wanted was a nice quiet morning before a 10 hour shift at the hospital. And even though I already took a rest day on Tuesday, I made a decision: the DVD will be here tomorrow…my sanity, may not be!

No regrets what-so-ever!

You know why?

Because my morning consisted of:

A mug of 1/2 caf coffee half the size of my head
with a side of Google Reader and a few of my favorite blogs!

A peanut buttery banana scramble topped with blueberry jam

Ahhh, blooby jam…I’ve missed you so!

Packing the same exact thing for lunch 4 days in a row
because I’m STILL not tired of it yet!

Picking out my favorite scrub top to wear
I love the cinch below the bust!

Straightening my hair for the first time in weeks and
actually being able to get a comb through it (simple pleasures)

Spending 10 minutes

taking

ridiculous pictures

with iPhoto!

Check it! 😉

And finally

Spending a little time with this guy!

When’s the last time you gave yourself what you wanted?
