Saturday Shopping Extravaganza!

Hey everybody! How was your day? Mine was ho-hum. All that lovely 80 degree weather we got over the weekend abandoned us today for gray skies and pouring rain. No matter how long I live in Tennessee, I’ll never get over the crazy weather!

This morning, I didn’t have time to have a sit-down breakfast (read, I spent too long reading blogs after my shower and was therefore running late), but I HAD to have some of the leftover Coconut-Mango Yogurt Pancakes from yesterday morning so I threw them in the oven to toast under the broiler while I whipped up a quick smoothie.

Breakfast to go anyone?

Coconut-Mango Green Monster Smoothie: (serves 1)

  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup leftover mango pulp
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 handfuls fresh spinach
  • 1 tablespoon coconut flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon coconut extract
  • 5-6 ice cubes

Whirr, whirr, whirr in the MB it goes! Where it stops nobody knows in my bellay!

Ok, so today it rained…and then it rained…oh, and after that, it rained a little more. Booooring! Howabout we talk “loot” from Saturday’s Shopping Extravaganza?! (Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?)

So I knew it was going to be a good day when it started out with this:

Iced 1/2 caf coffee with a splash of soy milk

Followed shortly after by this:

Veg-tastic burrito bowl from Chipotle

Oh yeah! Ya with me?

After meeting my friends for lunch at Chipotle (hi Cat & Erik!), it was time to get my shop on. And what kind of shopping gets a foodie THIS excited? Grocery shopping of course! Before I show you the loot, I want you to know that this was my first “official” grocery shopping after the Clean Out the Kitchen Challenge (read, there’s a LOT of stuff here!)

Trader Joe’s:

  • Yogi Ginger Tea x 2 (on sale for $2! AND I had a coupon for $1/2)
  • Veggie Masala Burgs (lurve)
  • Canned Alaskan Salmon
  • Organic Refried Beans
  • Unsalted Creamy Almond Butter
  • Peanut Butter Cream Cheese (say wha?!)
  • Cinnamon Cat Cookies
  • Punjab Eggplant Dish
  • Vermont Maple Syrup
  • 21 Seasoning Salute (since I see it ALL the time on Janetha’s blog!)
  • Fully-cooked Brown Rice
  • Organic Galas
  • Organic 3-Grain Tempeh x 2
  • Single-serving Non-fat Greek yogurt x 2 (blueberry and honey)
  • 2% Greek Yogurt
  • Fresh Basil
  • Potato Medley
  • Whole Wheat Tortillas
  • Dried Bloobs
  • Slivered Almonds
  • (Un-pictured) Smooth & Mellow Coffee x 2 (decaf and regular)

Whole Foods:

  • Whole Wheat Honey Grahams
  • Chickpea Flour
  • Yogi Chai Tea
  • Carob Powder
  • Sunshine Burgs
  • Unsalted Pretzels
  • Unsweetened Shredded Coconut
  • Coconut & Maple Extracts
  • Organic heirloom tomato
  • Blueberry Muffin Larabar (FINALLY got my hands on one!)

Behold the Pink Ladies!

Coconut Chocolate Chip Paleta

A little treat for the road! 😉

K&S International Market

  • Discount zucchini (I got this whole pack for 2 bucks!)
  • Kabocha squash x 3 (even though I wanted to just back the car up to the door!)
  • Calavacita squash
  • Cilantro
  • Beets
  • Yucca (so I can make Allie’s yucca fries)
  • Ginger Root
  • White Asian Pear

Notice the first three items are squash? Yeah, that’s no coincidence! 😉

Anybody heard of this one?

Cue sappy love music: “You’re beauuuuuuuuutiful!
“You’re beauuuuuuuutiful, it’s true!”

One of the best pears I’ve ever tasted
Sweet and juicy with the texture of a watermelon!

So…you guys wanna know how much I spent? You ready for this?

…….

$1083.43!

What a steal, right?! Oh wait…I guess I should’ve told you about this little purchase first:

Say hello to Heather’s shiny new washer & dryer!

While I was in Nashville, my dad called me and had me meet him at an appliance store to shop for a new W&D.  They had a super weekend sale running and this set was only $800! How could I pass up a deal like that?! On a front loader? Thank you!

What’s the best deal you’ve gotten lately?

Your so cute! i love you hair and complexion! SO pretty! 🙂

I had a coconut-pineapple ( aka pina colada) smoothie today! and it was D-lish! Oh and what does coconut flour do? I JUST bought some yesterday!

  6. YAAAY for new foods! …and you’ll think the deal is even better when you can have a big energy saving tax write off too – when we got ours we had a HUGE write off! 😀

  7. I love how curly your hair is!!! 😀

  8. Can I go grocery shopping with you?! I need kabocha and peanut butter cream cheese! I started cracking up when I read what you said about backing your car up to the store to load up on kabocha… pretty sure I’m going to do that next time I buy some 🙂 It’s getting really expensive near me, even at the Asian market! What am I going to do without my precious?!

    • Girl, we could do some major damage in the squash section of a grocery store…and then raid the canned pumpkin section! They wouldn’t even know what hit em! 😉

Oh no! That totally stinks about the price! Maybe it has something to do with gas prices?

  9. Lindsay says:

Yumm I love squash too. I’m obsessed really. But at least I can admit I have the problem 😉 I just discovered kabocha recently though, as it’s not readily available in my regular supermarket, and I had to venture to Wholefoods to find it.

  10. i love your hair, you ‘dorbzzzz 🙂

and i am SUPER jealous of all your loot! someone take me grocery shopping… nevermind that my poor little dorm room is packed to the brim with, well, food. adn clothes. 😉

Kombucha is my love, too bad the only place i can find it is whole foods an hour away!
Love your washer and dryer – so shiny, that is a steal!
I’ve never tried that squash before but it must be good if you wanted to back the car up, lol 🙂

  12. Kristina says:

Way to rub in that Trader Joe splurge-ughhhhhh!!!!! haha. love it all! and your chipotle looks 10x better than the mess they served me my first time!

  13. Ooh la la; great loot!! Both of the edible and non-edible variety 😛 I still need to go on a “real trip” since my own Clean out the Cupboards challenge. I’ve grabbed a few things quick but other than that, I’m starting to get…rather…creative 😛
Best deal lately…well, I was pretty happy to get a box of cereal for $1.69…hah. I’m wild, I know.

  14. BrittFit says:

I LOVE YOUR HAIR I need that smoothie and that bar. asap! haha

  15. That is seriously one good deal!!
Yesterday I made a stop at Marshall’s and got a few great things! My favorite is this black skirt I got for only $16.99! i love that store.

  16. Congrats on the pretty washer/dryer. Our car was a have to purchase and while I love it, it makes me sick paying for it. You loaded up on groceries! I can’t wait to see the goodness coming from that gorgeous kitchen!

  17. Anastasia says:

Everything looks so good.. especially that paleta and iced coffee!

I love seeing what other people get at the store. This makes me wish we had a TJ’s here even though I’d way too much!

That’s an amazing deal on the washer and dryer!

  18. That grocery bill scared me for a second ha. Everything looks so good! Isn’t it the best when you have a fully stocked kitchen? Love that feeling! 🙂

And beautiful washer/dryer, too. I’m totally jeolous, as it’s rare/impossible to find an apartment with a washer/dryer. I still trek down the block to my laundry mat!

  19. Emilia says:

I’m trying not too look at all your foodie loot photos, as I’m currently starting a pantry clean-up myself. No, i’m not moving, rather trying to decrease the shopping foodie addiction in me, as well as eat up and get creative what I have. Often I’ll just go to Whole Foods or what not when I really want something, but am not out of food. $100 dollars later each week, my wallet is not a happy camper.

I think i just shed a tear seeing your coconut extract buy. 🙂

    • I know what you mean girlie! Notice the only grain I bought was oats…and that is only going to be for baking. I can’t pass up the opportunity to get them from the bulk section! They’re just so cheap! I’m still trying to work my way through all the grains I have in the pantry now. Here’s looking at you, bulgur and wheatberries! 😉

  20. janetha says:

Hahahahaha.. I laughed hard at your grand total. Yay for the new W&D! Suh-weet! And I am envious of your Trader Joe’s shopping ability! I need one in Utah! Haha that way I don’t have to buy 4 21 seasoning salutes when I am in Cali.

  21. kbwood says:

wow what an AMAZING grocery loop!!!
love that smoothie- must find me some coconut flour!!!

  22. Sarah Banks says:

OH NO! i went to trader joes last week and TOTALLY forgot the peanut butter cream cheese! I guess this means I HAVE TO GO BACK ASAP!

  23. Peanut butter cream cheese and 21 salute are on my must buy list every week. SO dang good!!!

  24. Hell to the YES on your washer and dryer purchase!!!!! Front loaders <3 <3 <3!!

  25. HOLY CRAPBOMBS- you got SUCH A LOOT!!!!!!!

  26. Literally my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw how much you spent. I LOVE grocery shopping, glad I found someone who has a similar love like me 🙂

  27. Ma Ma Megan says:

Look at all that good stuff!! Jealous is what I am right now 😉
I love leftover pancakes. My favorite way to eat them is cold right out of the fridge.

  28. Hello Heather’s new washer and dryer. Jealous! We need a new dryer as ours is squeaking. CD is in charge, and I hope to have a new one ASAP as I do laundry almost everyday.

Sad we didn’t get to meet up Saturday, but hope to see you soon. I need camera tips!

I also need kabocha. I see a trip to K&S in my near future. 🙂

So grateful for the beautiful weather we had today!!!!

    • Oh yeah, I forgot how much laundry is involved with a new baby…crazy! Hope you can get a new one soon! I can’t wait to get my set in (have to wait until Saturday so my dad can pick it up in his truck) just to see how long it takes to wash a load! I’m a little excited…and wow, I can’t believe I just said I was excited to do laundry! :-/

I’m sorry it was such short notice about Saturday…we’ll have to coordinate schedules soon! Not sure I’m much of a wealth of knowledge when it comes to DLSRs since most of my learning has been: point, shoot, delete crappy pic, point, shoot…, but I’ll do my best! 😉
