My Breakfast Date

So you know how I mentioned in my WIAW post that I was a little “fond” of my newest combo of dates and sunflower seed butter? Well, what I failed to disclose is that me and SSSB (“Studley Sunflower Seed Butter) have been “talking” for a while.

I was a little nervous, but I agreed to meet him for breakfast this morning…which gave me a good reason to break out the new hair straightener that Santa I just got me!

Ok, so I was a teeeensy bit excited…

And then he showed up!

In all his banana slice/carob chip glory!

Isn’t he breathtaking?

You think he’s gotten any work done?

Eh, I digress…

I could feel the chemistry from the very beginning…

But I just closed my eyes and jumped inΒ took a bite…

(Ok, ok…so my eyes were open!) but then I knew for sure…

Love at first sight bite!

Sadly my romance was short-lived.

That is, until his twin brother showed up!

The world is right again!

Banana Carob Chip Oats (In a Jar):

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 Tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons nutritional yeast (trust me on this one!*)
  • 1 small banana, sliced
  • 1/2-1 Tablespoon carob chips
  • 1 near-empty SSB jar

1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine oats, milk, water, and extract and cook on high for 3-4 minutes, stirring halfway through.
2. Stir in nutritional yeast and chia seeds and allow 2-3 minutes to thicken.
3. Transfer to waning nut butter jar, layering with banana slices and carob chips.
4. Prepare to swoon!

Β *If you’ve never tried it before, let me just tell you now that SSB and nutritional yeast were MADE for each other…the mild sweetness from the butter…the savory taste of the nooch…match made in heaven!

What’s the last breakfast that made you swoon?

Have you ever tried OIAJ?

Gah….sunflower seed butter. I haven’t had it in wayyyyy too long – but I’d agree. Definitely the best nut/seed butter out there :]

I actually haven’t ever had OIAJ. I know, I know, don’t yell at me πŸ˜‰ IN my defense, I’m not much of an oats person. (which is only to be met with more shock, I’m sure, so I’m not sure why I’m using that to defend myself, lol) BUT! I love cereal in a jar. Mmmm!

  7. Hahha you’re too funny πŸ™‚

  12. Lauren says:

You *may* have lost me at the nutritional yeast. Every time I go to the grocery store I spend 2 full minutes to staring at the sunflower butter, wondering if it’s worth it to buy some. I guess you just answered my question!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Definitely worth it!! And I promise you…SSB and nooch…deeeeelicious! First time I ever tried the combo was on sweet potato fries and I loved it!

Yowza… Can’t get enough. In fact, since I had a (super delicious) omelet this morning, I’ll be cooling off with some cold and creamy O.Os for lunch and I absolutely can’t wait!!!!

Thanks Alex! I’m so glad you left a comment! I love when loyal readers “de-lurk”! πŸ˜‰

Ohhhh yes, nothing like a cool bowl of OO’s on a hot summer day…and PB&J oats? Right up my alley!

  15. Love your hair! Oat bran apple cinnamon muffin slathered in PB had me in a food-gasm the other day!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, who knew those words could have such an affect on my central nervous system! I’m drooling! Haha!

  16. Dawn says:

Not sure if you’re using a macbook camera for these pictures, but if you are, while looking at the picture, you can hold the command key, and F and it flips the photo so things aren’t backwards. I just noticed coffee was backwards in a picture and I’m feeling especially nerdy commenting on this..

  17. MzSlyde says:

Your hair looks awesome straightened – You are so pretty.
I am waiting for my jar to be empty enough so I can have OIAJ…… Waiting Impatiently Patiently..

  18. The last bfast that made me swoon was an amazing breakfast pizza I made a lil while ago, but breakfast has really been disappointing me lately! It was my favorite meal for ages, but lately it has left so much to be desired. I dont know whats going on. Help?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I went through a little breakfast funk myself recently. I kept trying different things with my bowl of oats (because I THOUGHT that’s what I wanted) but kept getting so disappointed so I gave up the oats and moved on to other things. The first day I had a yogurt parfait…disappointment…but then the second day I had French toast (with TONS of cinnamon!) and life made sense again! Haha! I guess it’s really just about trying to figure out what it is your body is craving. And then sometimes when I’m just at a complete loss for ideas, I just do a little blog-stalking until I find something that instantly makes me drool! πŸ˜‰ Haha!

  19. oh my gosh. it’s seriously taking all my will power not to dive into my kitchen after seeing that breakfast. looks incredible!!

  20. Lindsay says:

hahaha you crack me up. I was thinking you had a good date story for us at first. But hey, sunflower butter breakfast date is kinda preferable anyway (at least in my book!) hehee

  21. Priyanka says:

  23. Ha ha! I’m just now getting a chance to catch up on some posts, this was TOO funny!!

I just bought my very first jar of sunflower seed butter! I hope its date worthy πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh oh ohhhhhhhh! Let me know what you think!! If you guys get serious, I totally want the recognition! πŸ˜‰

  24. I have an empty sunflower seed butta jar waiting to be used as we speak. Giving this one a try ASAP πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to make creative combos with you post- run πŸ™‚
