What I Punned Wednesday

It’s time to parrrrrtay!

And nobody throws a party quite like my girl, Jenn!

C’mon in, kick your shoes off, grab a mug of something warm, and check out the delicious eats I enjoyed yesterday!

Every day party should start out like this, right?

As good as a nice big bowl of Zucchini Protein Oats sounded the night before, when I woke up yesterday morning, I had ONE thing on the brain…

French Toast!

I forgot I was out of milk until I’d already whisked up the eggs, so I just threw in a half a scoop of vanilla protein powder…and now I’m out of THAT as well! πŸ™

I threw just about every spice I had into these babies: cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, cloves, nutmeg, and a little maple extract

What can I say, I was looking for a way to “spice” up my breakfast! πŸ˜‰

And guess what…it worked! Topped with 1/2 of a farmer’s market peach, a little shredded coconut, and a good splash of maple syrup and I was on my way to Mmm-ville!

And it kept me full all the way to lunch!

My salad of randomness

Romaine, leftover quinoa, red bell pepper, zucchini, yellow tomatoes, mustard beef burger (as simple as it sounds: 1/4 lb beef, mustard, spices) topped with feta cheese, sunflower seeds, and freshly ground pepper

Is it just me, or do those tomatoes look like lightbulbs?

Just wanted to “shed some light” on the subject! πŸ˜‰

The other half of my peach from breakfast made it’s way into a delicious afternoon snack:

French Vanilla Chobani, diced peach, Grape Nuts

Or as Walmart so lovingly refers to them:

Crunchy Nuggets

I’m sorry, but I can’t help but laugh every time I say that!

I had never tried Grape Nuts, or Crunchy Nuggets (tee hee), before I bought this box about a week ago, but since then, I have been adding them to EVERYTHING!

I thought about calling them my new “fiber crack”…but that just makes me laugh even harder!

Get it?……..Fiber?…….Crack?

Oh, I “crack” myself up! πŸ˜‰

Anywho! Moving on! Time for breakfast…er, I mean dinner!

The temps have dropped pretty drastically here in the south over the last couple of days, so when I got home from the gym today, all I wanted was a big, huge, fluffy bowl of comfort!

Voluminous Oat Bran
Using Carrie’s tried and trueΒ micro-method

Spiked with peanut flour, cinnamon, and maple extract and topped with a microwaved Mutsu apple, chia seeds, FROG preserves, and…

Who say’s airline food is strictly for inflight?

Let’s just say, this meal “soared above” my other dinners of the past week! πŸ˜‰

Ok, ok…I ran out of food to talk about so I guess my fun with puns is done…

Oh yeah, NOW I’m rhyming!

Just call me the Rhymenoceros! πŸ˜‰

No questions today! Just enjoy a little Flight of the Conchords on me!

girl, your photos look FANTASTIC! as do all of the eats – you know I love my vibrant colors in food! πŸ™‚

  2. Leelu says:

Ooh, that you for inspiring me – I know what I’m having for breakfast now (and it’s not oatmeal :P)

I wish I could find my love of oatbran. It always looks so delish when other people make it, but whenever I do I’m always disapointed. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong somehow…

    Have a great week!

  3. I need to try maple extract. Sounds delish! Loved all the puns…hehehe!

  4. Victoria says:

Loving the FOTC reference! “I’m horny, I’m horny!!” hehe.

I might join in with this Wednesday thing. It looks fun!

  5. Carrie says:

im in LOVE with all the peach action here!! and of course the oats! thanks for the mention πŸ™‚

  6. Cherie says:

    Cute mug!!! I want one.
Seeing the peaches in this post is getting me excited for summer.
Crunchy Nuggets is probably the best cereal name I’ve ever heard!

  7. Haha for some reason I thought you were a vegetarian?

  8. katie says:

    Love the mug! so cute!

Love the huge oatbran bowl too!

Your pics are amazing! I can’t get over it!

    xoxo <3

  9. testing to see if this works… that french toast looks ammaazing! question- what kind of camera do you have?

  10. Shannon says:

Yum, those pancakes look delish! Perfect way to start the day πŸ™‚

  11. I freaking love Flight of the Chonchords!!!!! hahahaha It’s business time πŸ˜‰

They came to Ohio State when I was in school and I got to see them live. So funny!!!

Your eats look delicious as always, darling. Happy WIAW!

  12. I love crunch on things so anytime I find a good crunchy topping of some sort…it goes on EVERYTHING! Have a great Wednesday Heather!

  13. caroline says:

heather! i saw on your guest post that you have never tried sardines!! oh myy this HAS to change….i love sardines, they are my go to protein, soo flavorful with good oils! you have to give it a try and i know your creative food combo brain could put these babies to use!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hmm, sardines and peanut butter?? Ok, so maybe that’s a little much…haha! Alright, I have my motivation! This weekend, I’m trying me some fish food! πŸ˜‰

  14. Hahahaha I am with you on the fiber crack…and I chuckled at that. In-flight food is definitely NOT for just in-flight…especially as I usually pack so many perishable snacks that I don’t have time to eat it until I get home and a snack attack hits. πŸ™‚

  15. Lauren says:

I have a Chobani in my fridge that is dying to be eaten with a fresh peach on top. But alas, no “Crunchy Nuggets” over here. Your salad looks amazing! If only my salads looked so pretty and not just like a giant mess with everything heavy at the bottom…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Funny you should mention that…because after I dumped all of that in a bowl and took it to work, that’s EXACTLY what it looked like! πŸ˜‰

  16. Courtney says:

oh my gosh this all looks so good!! I love mish mash salads they just are such a good filling lunch!! the oat bran looks amazing, I am going to have to try that and who in this earth doest love a good french toast!

  17. oh my kitty cuteness!

and that french toast looks amazing. I had a fresh peach this morning too! love LOVE peaches!!

have a great day doll ♥

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I know, peaches are SO good right now! Probably the thing I’ll miss the most about summer…I love me a good juicy peach!

  18. chelsea says:

I’m officially craving yogurt now. Thanks πŸ˜‰

  19. Thank you! Because now, for the rest of the day, I’ll be secretly giggling at “crunchy nuggets”. Seriously, GV has the funniest names for stuff. Have you seen the purple drink? It’s grape juice but they actually call it purple drink- haha!

  20. French toast always looks so amazingly tasty, but whenever I make it, I end up being less than impressed. Oats I can cook, but French toast not so much, I guess. Maybe you’d like to volunteer to come cook breakfast for me? πŸ˜€ Or dinner? I know you’re a big fan of the breakfast for dinner club πŸ˜‰

Crunchy nuggets crack me up as well, but then again, so does the term “grape nuts”. What do grapes or nuts have to do with a high fiber cereal that doesn’t contain any nuts or grape flavoring. False advertising!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

That’s so true! I didn’t even think of that! Wth?! Grape nuts! Haha

Girl, you’ve got yourself a deal! I’ll make you french toast any day…just as long as I get some eggy bananafied oats! πŸ™‚ And oh yeah, I swear breakfast tastes 100 times better after dark!

  21. Alexis says:

You make me want french toast and I was never a french toast person! And I found FROG perserves at this little local place we have and I picked some up!!! It’s delicious! I was pretty excited when I found it cause I saw it on your blog and have been curious to what it tastes like.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yay for the FROG! I thought it was the weirdest thing when I first picked it up at the farmer’s market, but I’m SO glad I decided to get it! Best jam ever!

  22. Yummy french toast! I hate when I just find out I’ve ran out of something I need lol

  23. Missy says:

Love the mug shot (ha ha)

How did you eat just half a peach? I would not have been able to save the other half for later!

I made a faux “pecan” pie out of grape nuts for a girl with a severe nut allergy – she loved it as did everyone else – said it was very close to the real thing.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

It was a REALLY big peach! And I knew a whole one wouldn’t fit in my yogurt so I figured, voila! French toast topper! Haha!

Grape Nuts as faux pecans? That sounds interesting!

      Mug shot…touche! Lol

  24. I make zucchini bread oats! So good. πŸ™‚

And those airline peanuts? Staples in my desk drawer. I thought I was the only one. LOL!

  25. Heather, what camera do you use? I always LOVE your pictures!

  26. Lizzie says:

yayy i love all your eats! they seriously look drool worthy! i really need to try that french toast…

  27. Nikki says:

Could you describe how you make the oatbran – the link does not work.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Of course! It’s basically 1/2 cup of oat bran mixed with 2-2 1/2 cups of water. Put all that in a BIG bowl and microwave it in 1-2 minute intervals, stopping and stirring as you go. After you’ve let it go about 6-7 minutes, take it out and stir in your add-ins. I used to use either peanut flour or protein powder, a flavor extract, and spices (you can also add sweetener too!). Hope you like it! πŸ™‚

      • Nikki says:

Thanks! That is crazy! The ‘voluminous oats’ measures I have been doing are what Chocolate Covered Katie recommends, which is only 1.5 C water to 1/2 C oats, so this must be even bigger! Have you tried your recommended ratio with quick or rolled oats? Does it work as well as with the oat bran? Peanut flour is flour from heaven isn’t it?! That and cocoa powder are necessities of life, I am sure of it. I love maple extract, or good ol’ vanilla (I made several varieties – Ugandan, Indian, and Tonga, and Tonga with Rum) and also have bought Mexican, and Tahitian vanillas right now. Then there is almond extract. I bought a hazelnut extract, but it tastes about as good as the water I cook my oats in… perhaps just a lame brand or something. Peanut flour and raspberries is like PB&J in a bowl. I can get carried away talking about oatmeal concoctions…. so I’ll just stop myself here.

        • kissmybroccoli says:

I’ve actually never tried it with oats before, but I’d love to know how it comes out if you give it a try! Peanut flour! Oh gosh, I honestly have no idea how I ever lived without it! And yes, mixed with raspberries, it’s the best! Or hell, mixed with anything! Lol! Sounds like you have quite the well-stocked pantry…maple extract is one of my favorites!
