This Is How I Cho!

A few months ago…ok, more like five (ugh, bad blogger alert!), the lovely Shari with Chobani put together a wonderful tasting package for me! You see, in my little town of Clarksville, I can only find Chobani at ONE grocery store and unfortunately, they only think it’s necessary to offer oh, about 5 flavors to choose from. That means that while everyone was going ga-ga over the 3 new flavors to hit the shelves earlier this year (lemon, mango, and black cherry), I was left alone…in the dark…crying into my empty spoon.

Ok, so maybe that’s a bit melodramatic, but I was going crazy not being able to get in on the flavor fun like everyone else. So you can imagine my excitement, when one evening, after a long day at the hospital, I come home to this:

Meet my yogurt pyramid!

Now, I have to admit…as excited as I was to try each and every flavor (some of them new to me and some known favorites already), my food hoarding instincts kicked in big time! I think it took me nearly a month to finish them all off!

So here’s the scoop spoonful on a grading scale of A – F:

First: The new guys!

Lemon: I wasn’t sure if this flavor was going to have a crisp and fresh lemon flavor or one more subtle, like a lemon cookie so as I took my first bite, I was completely open minded. I tasted…I swallowed…I tasted again…sadly, the lemon flavor was so faint, I could barely tell that it had lemon in it at all.  Grade: D

Mango: Luckily, the mango flavor made up for the lemon-lacking cup! Until this cup, I had never tried any Chobani flavors that weren’t fat free. Let me tell you…that little bit of fat makes a HUGE difference. It was so thick and creamy! And the mango flavor was perfect…not too subtle, but not “in-your-face” mango tasting either! Grade: C

Black Cherry: Hold the phone, we have a winner, folks! This is my new FAVORITE yogurt! It actually came as a big surprise being as I’ve never really been a big fan of cherry-flavored foods, but this? If I could only eat one yogurt flavor for the rest of my life, I would definitely go with Chobani’s Black Cherry! Grade: A+

Next up:

The little guys!

Honey-Nana: Obviously, you can tell from the open package, which flavor I was most excited to try. This guy barely made it out of the box before it was in my belly! It’s a little sweeter tasting than I’m used to (the honey flavor comes through more so than the banana), but I thought it was pretty good. Grade: B

Verry Berry: But this dude was perfect! Just the right blend of berry flavor and paired with a bit of cereal, makes for the perfect mid-morning snack, in my opinion. Grade: A

“Berry” Good! 😉

Moving on to the big guys girls:

The Plain Janes

You can’t really go wrong with plain Greek yogurt. I loved both varieties, but I have to say that the thickness of the 2% makes SUCH a difference and it’s super filling!

And last but certainly not least:

Berries & More!

Strawberry-Banana: This has been my all time favorite yogurt flavor since I was a kid and I’m happy to say that Chobani did not disappoint with this one…the perfect blend of strawberry and banana goodness! Grade: A

Raspberry:

The raspberry is one of my new favorites…and it also helped me find a new favorite oat combination: warm peanut flour-infused oats with cool raspberry yogurt, topped with FROG preserves, chia seeds, honey roasted peanuts, and banana…yum! Grade: A

Pineapple:

Like the lemon, I didn’t really get much of a pineapple-y taste out of this…kinda made my “tropical overnight oats” topped with Trader Joe’s Mango Butter, Crunchy Nuggets (heehee), coconut, and lime zest a bit anti-climatic… Grade: D

Strawberry: I have to say that out of all the berry flavors, and especially after my love of the strawberry/banana, I was a little disappointed in this flavor…well, that is until I added some cocoa powder and made my own “chocolate-covered strawberry” yogurt! 😉 Grade: C

Peach:

I already knew the peach was one of my favorites…Sunday morning’s pancakes just served to further set it’s place in the top 3! Grade: A

Blueberry:

LOVED the blueberry…especially in this bowl of blueberry-coconut overnight oats! Yeah, can you tell what my favorite way to eat yogurt is yet? Well, besides this! 😉

Vanilla:

This flavor wasn’t included in my tasting package, but thankfully it’s one of the few flavors I can find in my little narrow-minded town so I had to include it in the review. Out of all the flavored yogurts that Chobani offers, the vanilla ranks the lowest in the amount of sugar so it’s definitely one that I buy a lot. I love the clean taste of it…especially when popped in the freezer for a couple of hours and topped with carob chips and peanut flour for a fro-Cho sundae!

All in all, I’d say I give Chobani a B- for their line. They definitely have the competition beat on the variety of flavors and the texture alone is one of the best of all the Greek yogurts I’ve had, but I do wish they were a little lower in sugar and (on select varieties) higher on flavor. Now if only I could scope out more of that Black Cherry!

I’d like to say a BIG thank you to Shari and Chobani for allowing me to taste all of their flavors that eluded me for so long!*

*While Chobani did give me this product free of charge, I was not compensated in any way for this review. The contents of this post are of my own personal and honest opinion.

Have you ever tried Chobani yogurt? If so, what is your favorite flavor?

What are your top THREE favorite yogurt toppings?
Crunchy Nuggets

I like the peach and strawberry, but I want to try the black cherry now!! I was not crazy about the mango.

I like granola on my yogurt, but after reading this(and being hungry from some medicine I am taking) I went straight to my fridge and got out a yogurt(not Chobani, though) and added carob chips 🙂

  2. Shannon says:

I love Chobani! Theyre not sold where I live so I only get to have them when Im in the States 🙁
    Loving your yogurt pyramid! 😀

  3. Susan says:

My ability to digest lactose got up and walked away two years ago. I’m waiting for them to create a dairy-free yogurt that is as thick and creamy as the Greek stuff. I miss it! Back in the day though, I loved mixing it with cottage cheese. Whoa, just thinking about that gives me a tummy ache. Another favorite was adding tempeh and maple syrup.

  4. Lee says:

    My top three are
    1. 2% plain
    2. black cherry
    3. peach

  5. PB&Jenny says:

strawberry banana chobs makes me weak in the knees! the 2% flavors are just off the charts !!

favorite yogurt toppings = granola, dark chocolate, and PB 🙂

  6. Caroline Lunger says:

have you tried fage yogurt?the plain 2% is the best!!! i used to eat it all the time before i found out i was allergic to milk :(…my favorite flavored is blueberry but i have only tried the okios version 🙂 have you tried these brands?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’ve never had the 2% Fage, but I have had their 0% and the strawberry flavor was the very first Greek yogurt I ever tried. I’ve seen that they’ve come out with a lot of new flavors, but I’m not really a fan of the sweetness anymore. I don’t mind Okios if it’s the only option, but I like my Greek yogurt to be a bit thicker than theirs tend to be.

Bummer on the milk allergy! It’s kind of funny (or well, really sad I guess) that by the end of my tasting trials with all of these, I think I may have a bit of a sensitivity to dairy myself. 🙁

  7. I have to drive 2+ hours to buy Chobani yogurt so I don’t have it very often. 😛 I don’t like their vanilla flavour as much as other brands, but their strawberry and raspberry flavours are good! I would love to try the strawberry-banana flavour – that’s always been my favourite flavour pairing too!

  8. Lauren says:

Bummer about the pineapple flavor because those oats look awesome! I tried the strawb-banana and mango a few weeks ago. Loved the strawb and loved the mango until I got to the actual mango chunks. They were not ripe! Favorite toppings = granola, granola and granola? 😛

  9. Lizzie says:

    this is awesome!!!
this is probs the best review ive ever read–i love how you grade them A-F!
i so wish my body cud tolerate lactose just so i cud try greek yogurt!

  10. I love the way they’re called crunchy nuggets, sounds great! My favourite yoghurt topping has to be granola and vanilla pumpkin seeds; I’m with you on the crunch factor, even if I haven’t got the nuggets 😉

  11. I looooove Chobani. The lemon is my favorite! I haven’t been a huge fan of the other flavors. I usually just buy plain in bulk because it’s cheaper, but once in a while I splurge 🙂

  12. I really think Chobani is the best yogurt, although I always get the plain 0% kind. (I know, could I be anymore lame?) If they’re out of that one, then I usually just get vanilla. I like to add tons of blueberries to my yogurt, so I don’t usually like anything with a strong flavor.

I have tried some of the others (blueberry and strawberry) but I still liked plain the best. I haven’t been brave enough to try the 2% but I might have to give it a try!

  13. Thanks for taking the time to give such an honest review! I’ll be sure to pass the kind words along to Shari. 🙂
