California Friday #5: Under the Sea

Or as Sebastian would say:

Undaaaaaaa da Sea!!

C’mon, click the link and sing along to the video…you know you want to! 😉

Ok, so where did I leave off last week?

Ohhhh yeah!

So after our near death experience with the territorial sea lion, Emilia and I returned our kayaks and continued up the bay…

And made our way to…

The Monterey Bay Aquarium!

Emilia’s dad was gracious enough to give us some FREE tickets to the aquarium and with them boasting new exhibits including jellyfish, seahorses, and the arrival of toucans, I was more than excited to check it out!

Up first…the jellies!

Such beauty and grace

There were so many to see…all shapes and sizes

These Gooseberry Jellies were only about the size of the end of your finger!

Look, mushrooms! 😉

Anyone care for an anchovy? Good luck catching one of ’em!

Loved this!

Faces only a mother could love! 😉

Is it just me, or could the caption read:
“Whoa, dude…you’ve GOT to try this seaweed!”

‘Sssssssup?

So after getting a contact high from these guys…dude, we should have gone to see the jellies AFTER that! ;)…we took a stroll outside to get a bit of fresh air.

Snorkelin’

With water this cold, I was perfectly fine with my observer status! 😉

If you ever need a reminder that you are NOT a skilled photographer…try chasing down a tiny little seahorse for a shot….without motion!

You don’t want to know how many pics it took to get this!

Grrr!

But my frustration quickly faded when I realized they had my absolute favorite seahorse:

The Sea Dragon!

And his leafy cousin!

After the seahorses, I think I got a little photography boost…

Doesn’t it look like these guys are posing?

Then things really got freaky:

You put your left foot in and you shake it all about…

You do the hokey pokey…

And you turn yourself around…

That’s what it’s all about!!

It was great seeing all the exhibits (and singing along when necessary) at the aquarium and snapping a few shots (some posed and some candid) of all the sea and sand life. I’m so thankful I got the opportunity to see so many amazing creatures!

Have you ever been to an aquarium?

What is your favorite sea animal?

This post just reminded me that I had “Part of Your World” from Little Mermaid on my running playlist this morning.

ATL has the biggest aquarium in the country (I think). It’s pretty cool. My favorite sea animal has always been a manatee.

Nice! Haha! You know, I can never think of songs to download whenever I get to the computer…it’s like my brain shuts off or something and I forget every song I’ve ever mentioned that I liked! Thank god for Pandora!

  7. Lauren says:

I have always loved jelly fish and seahorses. Both are so cool! We have an aquarium in Denver but it’s pretty crappy and the restaurant is GROSS. Never again.

  8. Haha I love that song from The Little Mermaid! Sadly enough, I actually know the whole thing by heart. 😛

Thanks girl! Unfortunately, I can’t make it to Foodbuzz this year. I couldn’t see paying for two trips to Cali within 3 months of each other, but hopefully (fingers crossed!) I’ll be able to make it next year!
