What I Ate AFTER Thanksgiving

Hey hey hey!

Happy What I Ate Wednesday!

Be sure to check out Peas & Crayons to see all the delicious link ups this week…and as always, a big thanks to Jenn for hosting our weekly party!

I don’t know about you guys, but ever since Thanksgiving, my appetite has been crazy weird…for two days post the day-o-gluttony, I couldn’t stand to even THINK about food for breakfast!

Ice cold chocolate shakes and gingerbread coffee to the rescue!

Surprisingly, this kept me full for hours (thank you tummy for shrinking back to normal-size!), but as lunch and dinner times rolled around, I Β just couldn’t help myself from digging into the leftovers I hadΒ pilfered been sent home with… πŸ˜‰

Spinach salad with chopped ham, red onion, carrots, and my FAVORITE honey mustard dressing.

Turkey wrap with my Caramelized Onion, Cranberry & Kale Saute

Spinach, cornbread dressing, turkey, and cranberry honey mustard

There was also a KILLER salad of spinach, red onion, cranberry cinnamon goat cheese and turkey with balsamic vinaigrette and a CHEESE-IRIFIC egg white omelet, but both managed to escape the foodie paparazzi. πŸ˜‰

As far as snacks go, I may or may not be guilty of standing in front of the fridge with a fork and the bowl of my grandmother’s cornbread dressing and well, while I was in there, I couldn’t ignore these babies…

Incredible, edible, and devilishly delicious!Β

But now, almost a week later, my leftovers runneth empty and I am left to my own devices experiments…

Pumpkin Pie TVP “Fauxmeal”

Because obviously I need more natural self-tanner! πŸ˜‰

Recipe coming soon!

How have you been enjoying your Thanksgiving leftovers?

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten this week?

Sometimes I wonder if Thanksgiving leftovers are better than the actual meal itself ;)! You clearly made delicious use out of them…I’m especially loving the look of that wrap! It definitely looks like something you would order at restaurant :D! Best thing I’ve eaten all week was at the Mediterranean buffet we went for lunch on Sunday- hummus, mezze, char-grilled prawns, chicken kebabs, baba ghanoush, warm flatbread—> you better believe I ate my heart out :)!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I was just telling my mom the SAME thing a couple of days before Thanksgiving! We were having trouble finding the time to get everyone together on one day so I was trying to talk her into cooking everything and then serving the leftovers for our meal! Lol

That buffet sounds AMAZING!! I going to buffet-style restaurants for new-to-me cuisine so I can try a little bit of everything! What is mezze?

  2. That turkey wrap looks awesome!! Yummy!

  3. Everything from the leftovers to your own devices looks so freakin’ good. Seriously, I would eat your food scraps, although I do want a whole egg. πŸ™‚

  4. Your photos are seriously amazing, Heather! I haven’t really eaten any leftovers (turkey isn’t really my thing! haha) but I am still eating smoothies for breakfast, despite the fact that it’s getting cold out!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you Liz! I’ve actually been doing quite a few shakes lately too…but then again, our weather has been really weird here. It’s supposed to get up to the 70’s today! πŸ˜€

  5. Your leftovers look yummy, Heather! I need to find the TVP so that I can add it to my oatmeal. Wish I could remember what company I used to by from. Have a great day!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you Fran! Bob’s Red Mill carries the TVP, but I usually get mine from the bulk section at Whole Foods since it’s way cheaper! πŸ™‚

  6. I’m jealous of your Thanksgiving leftovers! Eating turkey sandwiches every day for the week after is the best! Your turkey wrap looks awesome – I love how you combined it with the kale saute!

The best thing I’ve eaten this week was a Cajun shrimp and rice recipe from The Food Network – it was so good! I’m addicted to my Cajun spice blend.

  7. Farrah says:

As usual, everything you put together looks amazing! I’m really loving sweet potato and carrot soup right now. πŸ™‚

  8. that wrap you made with the kale salad looks amazing!!! and i love the sound of gingerbread coffee!

  9. Jessie says:

That turkey wrap looks awesome girl!!

  10. How is it possible that you can even make bowl of leftovers look drool-worthy?? I need to take your photography class.

  11. Allie says:

Yest to cornbread-from-the-fridge! There’s really no reason to haul the whole container out when you can just stand there with a fork. Or your fingers. Not that I’d ever eat without silverware or anything (oh, wait, you saw me at the Ethiopian restaurant–which, no, it’s never too soon for round two! Come back to Nashville!).

And I started my day today with gingerbread coffee! Nice and gingery-spicy. I need to pick up another can of each, since, you know, seasonal. Get it while it’s freshest!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Yeah, I’m totally guilty of foregoing the silverware…and sometimes I drink my almond milk straight from the carton! I’m such a rebel! πŸ˜‰

We’ll have to coordinate soon…I need to get back down there for a trip to the farmer’s market…and yeah, I’m sure you could twist my arm into running into TJ’s too! Lol

  12. You might be a healthy living blogger if being too stuffed means starting the next day with a chocolate shake. Hahaha!

I adore my pumpkin TVP oats. Can’t wait to se how you do them!!

  13. We had to travel for Thanksgiving, so no leftovers to bring home! Both a good and bad thing. Eh, my grandma will make up for it come Christmas time when we are seriously left with a whole refrigerator shelf full of food in reused cool whip containers. πŸ˜€

I love how you livened up all of the food though! Last year when we did have leftovers I mixed some turkey, veggies and broth together to make a Thanksgiving soup!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Mmm, I LOVE making a good turkey soup out of leftovers! I did that a couple of years ago and added wild rice…it was fantastic!

Just let me know when I need to show up after Christmas to help you polish off that mountain of leftovers! πŸ˜‰

  14. I’m absolutley loving the look of your fauxmeal and wrap. I love caramelized onions. Super yummy.

Best thing I’ve eaten this week, mmm, my mama made some delicious homemade cod fishcakes served with swiss chard with smoked garlic. That was lovely.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow! That sounds amazing, Nikki! You know if your mom is open to adopting any 27 year old children anytime soon?? πŸ˜‰

  15. Your food looks amazing, loving the photography!

  16. Your leftovers look amazing! I’m loving some gingerbread coffee too this week. I almost broke down on thanksgiving and made deviled eggs in addition to the 50 other things I was already making, but didn’t. Now I have to go make some deviled eggs.

  17. I want the pumpkin meal! I’m turning a little orange too but I think I’m white enough to pull off the tinge πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! I’m the same…just wish I could will it to turn more on my legs…I swear I would blind people if I put on a skirt right now! Lol

  18. If there was a competition for most creative use of leftovers you’d totally win that. All of you meals look great!

Said natural self-tanner is my favourite food πŸ˜€ especially if it’s of the kabocha variety.

Aaah, all of those TVP “fauxmeal” pictures showing up in the blogworld lately will clearly make me pick up a bag of the magical stuff soon, too. Because, you know, it’s not like my pantry wasn’t overflowing already or anything ;).

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I know what you mean, I see stuff on blogs all the time and I’m like, “I HAVE to go get that”…that’s PROBABLY how I ended up with like 8 different kinds of flour/grains! Lol

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE kabocha!! Definitely my favorite squash!

  19. I’ve been enjoying a lot of that natural self tanner too!! lol!
I haven’t had an appetite this week until today… and now I can’t get full! I’m eating everything in sight!

  20. I -wish- I was enjoying Thanksgiving leftovers, but seeing as Thanksgiving was about a month and a half ago for us, I think I’d run into some serious stomach problems if I still had leftovers lying around… I’m open to donations though! πŸ˜‰ And I kind of hate to admit it, but the best thing I’ve eaten lately might just have been the McD’s fries I had about a week ago. Nowhere near healthy, but sometimes oh.so.necessary.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! Yeah, I’d say that would lead to a few problems if you were still munching on month-old leftovers! At least Christmas is right around the corner…another chance to break out the favorites from Thanksgiving! πŸ˜€

Geez, it’s been FOREVER since I’ve had Mickey D’s anything…I used to be obsessed with the chicken nuggets…like seriously, I could (and would sometimes) eat them 2-3 times in ONE week!

  21. Seema says:

Ahhhh Heather, come be my personal chef pretty please?? πŸ˜€ Everything looks delicious!

We went a bit overboard on the amount of pies this year for T-day so we’re still working through those slice by slice…french silk pie breakfast waffle…pumpkin pie oats…apple pie chunks stolen bit by bit from the box…

The best thing I’ve eaten this week is a new to me yogurt — Brown Cow cream on top in coconut ( http://www.browncowfarm.com/our-yogurt/cream-top). It totally hit the spot as a snack after lunch

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you Seema! And I’m on my way…just be sure to stock my room with plenty of pumpkin! πŸ˜‰

Sounds like some of the BEST ways to enjoy those pie leftovers…silk pie waffles? YUM!!

I’ve heard of that yogurt, but haven’t seen it anywhere. Now I really gotta try it!!

  22. lindsay says:

yep, that’s us. scraping the leftovers and trying to go a few more days with the grocery store run. But i kinda like it. More fun ideas. But i’ll take yours any day!

  23. Yum to all! And to all a good…night? Afternoon?

Hey-Hey-Hey! Yum-Yum-Yum!…..After finishing stuffing our faces with turkey and stuffing….then we had 4-key lime pies we ordered from Anita and Kutchie Pelaez’s Key Lime Pie Factory and Grill . It had to be the best Thanks Giving meal we ever had,
especially those pies. Hope you had a good one to…..,thanks, Jen
