Ok, all sappiness aside (sorry I’m not sorry), how was everyone’s weekend?

Was it MARVELOUS?

If it was, join Katie and all of us MIMM-ers in celebrating!

My weekend was FULL of marvelousness…starting with the fact that once I hit publish on Friday’s post, I had two whole days of blog-free life. Not that I don’t love blogging (or that I have any intention of leaving), but you know, sometimes you just gotta step away from the computer and just…LIVE!

First bit of LIVING I did, which I have absolutely NO pictures of…

I met a friend in Nashville and tried a new-to-me restaurant called The Yellow Porch and I loved EVERYTHING about it…from the decor, to the wine list, to what I FINALLY decided to order off the amazing menu:

Use your imagination…then add about 5x the amount of drool!

He went with one of the specials…grilled steak with the most amazing whipped mashed potatoes and sauteed spaghetti squash (yes, I totally stole a bite or two!)

And if dinner wasn’t enough, we stopped by The Fresh Market afterward for some of their bakery’s finest gourmet cupcakes…Boston Cream Pie for him and Pumpkin Spice for me (both delicious, but sadly his was better!)

Saturday was more of a low key day…

BEFORE I ended up getting called in to work at the hospital (womp womp), I made the most out of the morning/afternoon…

With kitty cuddles…

An iTunes overhaul, a new HUGE workout playlist and…

SUSHI!!!!!

BB and I met at Fujiyama (my new favorite sushi place) and had quite a lunch feast…we started with miso soup and an appetizer of grilled squid which was cooked to PERFECTION and drizzled in a sweet teriyaki glaze and then we ordered two large rolls to share…

The Broadway Roll
In: Spicy tuna, snow crab, avocado Out: Spicy crab, white tuna, masago

Golden Salmon Roll
In: Spicy salmon, avocado, spicy crab Out: salmon, mango, chef sauce

Since it was back to the grindstone on Saturday night, Sunday only left room to head to the gym (and workout to my new playlist :D) and stop by the grocery store for a few things for the week…

But boy did I find the DEALS!

I may or may not have come home with THREE things of figs while still considering going back for more! 😉

And on the way home, I relished in my money-saving glory while hanging my head arm out the window and enjoying some unseasonable but VERY welcome warm weather!

I’m sorry, but I am NOT dreaming of a white Christmas (or any other days for that matter) so if mother nature feels the need to have near 70 degree weather in Tennessee for the first week of December,

I’LL TAKE IT!

😀

What was marvelous about YOUR weekend?

When was the last time you un-plugged?

  1. I really need to overhaul my workout playlist… and go out for sushi. Sushi is a priority right now. Oh, and I took your inspiration for zucchini bread oats and mentioned you in my post today. Thanks!

Sushi is ALWAYS a priority of mine! 😉 Aww, yay, I’m so glad you tried them! Off to check out your post now! 😀

  2. lindsay says:

oh i unplugged a lot last week, it was forced but much needed! next time, i’m unplugging and coming to dinner with YOU! WOW!

  3. katie says:

    LOTS of Marvelous action!

I bet that porkchop was good! Sounds like it was by the description of it on the menu!
The sushi , I drool! I saw your pics on instagram and was soooooo jealous!
Yay for fresh market, love that place! We are getting one here very soon, yay!

    Happy Monday! <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you Katie! Yes, that pork chop was indeed marvelous…best one I’ve ever had at a restaurant (ya know, since I’m still a little partial to my own grilled version! ;)) And I could kick myself for forgetting all about Fresh Market! I used to go there all the time before I discovered Whole Foods and I loved it!

  4. Jessie says:

Yay for awesome food finds! Glad you were able to just unplug this weekend (besides being called into work.. boo) =)

  5. I really need to unplug. I kind of did (though not really). I was mid-meltdown last night and turned off the tv, went to my room lit only by xmas lights and tried to relax / space out looking at pinterest on my phone and shut off my mind. It kind of worked…

  6. Isn’t this weather fabulous? I couldn’t believe it when I went running in a tank top yesterday. Too bad it was cloudy – I could have used a tan.

Unplugging is the best. I typically try to take a day of rest on Sunday. I think I only posted once yesterday. #addiction

  7. I unplugged over Thanksgiving…four days without turning on my computer once. It was MUCH needed! I hate cold weather, so these unseasonably warm temperatures are JUST FINE with me. I’m sitting here in my classroom/office, staring out the door, counting down the minutes until I can dash away (figuratively) and then dash away (literally) on a run! Bring on global warming!!!! 😉

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, YES!! I swear I need to move closer to the Equator…I’m just not cut out for cold weather! I don’t understand how some people love it…what’s cute about dry skin, chapped lips, and runny noses?! And I’m totally jealous of your run…it was amazing outside the other day (from what I hear) but I, being the zombie that I am, slept through it ALL! #sadday

  8. hahah I DO want White Christmas but I am not against the warm weather up until the Christmas week comes around :3 But yeah, I am drooling at the sushi… I haven’t had any in FOREVER it feels like. This needs to change!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I don’t know how winter typically goes up there, but down here, we rarely EVER get snow before January. I think it snowed before Christmas ONCE in the 20+ years that I’ve lived here…so if we end up getting one this year, I’m hunting you down! Lol

Now go eat some sushi and get those winter-white thoughts out of your mind! 😉

  9. I got to hang out with so many friends this weekend, it was marvelous 🙂 I also made a huge pot of vegetarian chili and I have leftovers for today’s lunch! YUM!

  10. I did some good deal shopping this weekend too…I found an awesome deal on chicken breasts and now my freezer is full of them :-p

And yay weekend sushi! The boy and I had sushi takeout for dinner Saturday, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made recently. 😀

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Nice! I just “found” some chicken breast that were hiding in the back of my freezer…does that count as finding a good deal? 😉

And yes, sushi is ALWAYS a good decision!

  11. Between the restaurant menu and sushi pics, this post had me drooling waaay more than is cute…yummm! 🙂 My husband and I are obsessed with sushi.

My weekend was filled with a lot of holiday prep and fam time – I thought it was pretty marvelous. 🙂

    Have a great week!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, nice! And I love a man who knows his way around a pair of chopsticks…the couple who sushis together, stays together! 😉

  12. Unplugging every once in a while is SO necessary! I can’t remember the last time I did it… oops! I guess that means it’s about time I took a few days off!

That restaurant menu looks awesome! I think I totally would have gone for the pork too – all the flavours in the dish sound like they would be incredible together!

My weekend was marvelous because I went out for sushi too! 😀 Also I had a low key movie night in with some friends, which was exactly what I needed after my week of writing papers.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

The only other thing that caught my eye was the vegetarian lasagna with the kalamata olive marinara sauce, but I just couldn’t turn down “country style braised greens”! I’ve tried too many times to make a good batch of greens but they never come out quite right…I think it’s because I try to “healthify” them too much…sometimes you just gotta give in and throw a half-pound of butter in it! Haha!

And you know, I couldn’t help but think of you when I went out for sushi! You would LOVE this place! Just let me know if you ever happen to “be in the neighborhood” 😉

  13. Kitty cuddles + sushi = great day in my book!

  14. I LOVE to unplug and I do it every weekend now! I’ve GOT to get to Nashville and meet up with you asap! 🙂 I have been looking for figs and can’t find any ANYWHERE!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I honestly couldn’t believe that I found them…I thought fig season was over already! But I’ll tell you, they are the sweetest, JUICIEST figs I’ve EVER had! If I had had some like this when I first decided to give them another chance this year, I would have been buying them non-stop!

  15. Love the kitty!! Is he yours? He’s adorable. Unplugging is so necessary sometimes.

  16. Happy belated birthday. The sushi looks fantastic!

  17. Unplugging for a bit always leaves me refreshed. The restaurant you went to looks amazing. Sweet potato custard and spicy maple glaze together in one dish? Yes, please!

  18. Kim says:

OMG that Sushi looks so good!

You work third shift? I’m going back to it tomorrow… How do you arrange your days? I’m trying to figure out how to fit in everything including school and errands and sleep before going back to work at 11 pm every night?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

My shifts are Sunday-Wednesday, 8pm-6:30am. On Saturday night, I usually stay up as late as I can and then wake up early on Sunday morning (only allowing myself 4-6 hours of sleep tops). Then I “try” to take a nap around from 4ish-6:30 (yeah, sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t). When I get off in the mornings, I go straight to bed and usually end up sleeping until about 2 or 3pm which gives me about 3-4 hours before I have to get ready to do it all over again! 😉 I know everyone is different, but it took a few months to figure out a good schedule and this is what I’ve found works best for me. Hope it helps!
