What I Ate in a Cabin By the Lake

Ya know, as opposed to a van down by the river! πŸ˜‰

This past weekend, the man-friend and I escaped life…

Lakeside Cabin

No cell phones, no tv, no internet…

Just GOOD company and even BETTER food! πŸ˜€

Coffee

Like morning coffee by the fire.

Omelette

Another of the man-friend’s “famous” omeletts.

This one with spinach, tomatoes, bacon, and mushrooms and a side of addictive cuties!

Kettle Corn Kettle Corn Crack

Kettle Corn 1

x a BAJILLION!

Kettle Corn Bag

I swear I had (a little) help! πŸ˜‰

Salad Fresh salads for dinner.

Steak & AsparagusFollowed by a perfectly grilled steak, mushrooms, and roasted asparagus.

Fireplace

Un-pictured wine by the fire.

S'mores

And then the most genius idea ever conceived.

S'mores 1

Like seriously…

S'mores 5

You haven’t LIVED until you’ve had a toasted coconut dark chocolate s’mores!

I really need to unplug more often! πŸ˜‰

oh, what a great idea to just escape!! that must have felt so good and it looks totally peaceful! well, now I have a problem. How can I continue living without toasted coconut dark chocolate squares??? I live in Switzerland, which is unplugged the entire time! πŸ˜‰ All the other food looks pretty darn good too, I wish I had that omelette skill!

  2. A weekend getaway…how very nice, and the Man Friend’s presentation skills are improving by the day. I’ve got a fridge full or oranges right now, so I’m eating them like crazy, but they are not the same as cuties. So sweet, so supple, so teeny tiny….I’ve lost focus. Was I talking about oranges or those perfectly delectable smores. Now, that’s a weekend.

  3. YUM! All these different flavors of marshmallows are the worst thing ever…at least in terms of my sugar addiction. πŸ˜‰

  4. A steak followed by a COCONUT s’more….I die! Your weekend sounds awesome..and delicious :)! Best thing I ate all week was in the form of dessert: Pain Perdu (fancy way of saying French Toast) with caramelised bananas & vanilla bean ice cream..mmm!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I know, I haven’t been able to get them out of my head since! And holy yum! That French toast sounds TO DI FOR! *drool*

  5. OMG,I so want a coconut marshmallow now! I loooove those thingies, unbelievably delicious!
I must admit I cannot imagine when was the last time I completely unplugged… Especially since I have my iPhone,I can’t really keep myself from quickly checking my emails on the go. It’s awful! :/

  6. Not that the food didn’t look fabulous but cuddling up by the fireplace? I’m jealous! Did you spontaneously go or had the trip planned for a while?

Wait, coconut dark chocolate s’mores? Not only have I never had a s’more in my life – hey, I’m not living in the US! – but that sounds like the best of best. My “best” food of the weekend – plenty of Lindt Chili dark chocolate – sounds lame in comparison.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Actually, it was a bit of a surprise. The man-friend had planned it the week before, but didn’t tell me about it until the beginning of the week! It was one of the best surprises I’ve had in a while!

Oh honey, we need to change this whole “never had a s’mores” thing QUICK! I actually didn’t have my first one until a few years ago and let me tell you, your life will be changed forever! Lol

  7. What a fun weekend, Heather! Beautiful spot! Is it still a s’more if you leave out the marshmallow? Not a fan…just curious. Have a great day!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I think it can be whatever you want it to be…just as long as it makes you smile and say, “Yeah, I’d like s’more!” πŸ˜‰ And for the record, chocolate and peanut butter s’mores (no marshmallow) are pretty darn delicious!

  8. Just leave it to Heather to find the best eats! Seriously girl, I can never come to your blog when I’m hungry… It would just kill me. Hahaha!

  9. Jessie says:

Your little getaway sounds so relaxing & absolutely perfect!!

  10. Umm, I need to make that s’more ASAP. It looks amazing! Sounds like you had a nice weekend, it’s nice to get away and unplug for a while!

  11. Meg says:

Mmmm morning coffee by the fire <3

I haven't unplugged in a VERY long time πŸ™ So happy you got the chance to xo

  12. Your weekend away sounds perfect! I last unplugged over Christmas and it was so nice to just enjoy time with family and do puzzles/watch movies at night instead of reading blogs.

I bet those marshmallows are amazing! And what a good idea to use them on a s’more. We don’t have those marshmallows here but I’m going to try adding coconut flakes to my s’more next time I make them! πŸ˜€

    • kissmybroccoli says:

It wasn’t until I started unplugging more in the last few months that I realized just how much I was missing in REAL life. I mean, I love blogging and I love staying connected to my blog friends, but I swear I used to spend the better part of my weekends on the couch sucked into my Google reader. It’s amazing how easy it is to get “tunnel vision” and forget about the real world sometimes. I just wish I knew a way to better balance things out. And now…I’m off to get caught up with my favorite munchkin! πŸ˜€

  13. There are coconut marshmallows?! Seriously? Where the heck was I for this?! Haha that’s awesome! Looks like a wonderful weekend, I’m jealous. Glad to hear things are going well with the mend. (M(an fri)end

  14. TOASTES COCONUT marshmallows?!?! Oh.my.word. I will be on the look out for those! S’mores are THE best!

  15. Sami says:

ugh! now i have a hankering for steak πŸ˜‰

    looks like a fun time!

  16. This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So happy you had a great weekend. And now I’m craving s’mores. Thanks.

  17. How much fun would that be?!? I’m going to tell the hubs he needs to take me to a cabin in the woods! I also want a bazillion of those smores in my face pronto.

  18. Wow, what a relaxing weekend. And great idea on the s’mores! πŸ™‚

  19. It looks so beautiful where you went. I’d love to get away for a weekend.

  20. It’s hard to choose what I like most, that you spent a weekend away frolicking around with your manfriend [always fun!] or your eats [lots of yums] πŸ˜› And oh my goodness, that crack corn is exactly that- I refuse to buy it again [for myself] next year… I’ll have to buy it for Ryan and β€œshare” it!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Hey, “sharing” is caring, right? Same reason I always secretly hope that the man-friend will order French fries when we go out to eat JUST so I can ninja a few off his plate! πŸ˜‰

  21. That getaway sounds like such a nice break. At first I think I would be stressed without laptop and tv… Shoot! I’m stressed just thinking about it now… But after a little “digital detox” as my MIS professor calls it, I bet you both had a great time.

    Your Smore’s idea is genius!!

  22. 😯 Toasted coconut marshmallows? I would DIE! Omigosh seriously… what I wouldn’t give for one of those. But I live in Canadaland and we don’t usually get any of the neat marshmallow flavors. We do, however, get a lot of snow… which makes cozying up by the fire that much more enjoyable. Glad to hear you had an awesome weekend with the manfriend (who IS this mysterious mister??!). I spent this weekend unplugged for the most part as well because I was celebrating my birthday. It’s definitely nice to get away from technology, but it’s scary to come back!

  23. Looks like the perfect time away, I would love to escape to the Snowdonia mountain for the weekend! Can you believe I’ve never had smores?!

  24. Calee says:

oh man, heather, Mark and I need to do this sometime soon. It’s been a long time since we’ve gone away for the weekend. We were unplugged most of the last 2 weeks (holiday break for both of us) but I’d like to have a complete getaway like this.

PS is it a little weird that i half expected to see an engagement ring in this post? πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Whoa mama…not just yet! I’d like to think he would be properly introduced on the blog first before we got into talk of engagement! Lol You’re cute!

      • Calee says:

This is true … buuuuut there are a lot of bloggers whose significant others really don’t like to be blogged about (personal info anyway), and I didn’t know if he was one of them.

Either way, it was a perfect setting for that.

  25. toasted coconut marshmellows?! holy yum!!

  26. That sounds like the perfect getaway!! I need him to make me an omelet! Mine never turn out…

  27. Mmmmm cuties!! Actually all of your food looks amazing! I love those fresh salads before dinner.

So glad you got some time away together! Dave just suggested we head to Colorado sometime together for a weekend…no objections here! πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, that sounds awesome girlie! I’ve wanted to go back to Colorado since Blend! I’d love to try skiing sometime, but I guess I should decide on the color for my cast first. I know my (accident-prone) self all too well! πŸ˜‰

  28. Natalie says:

Your smore’s look so good right now, I’m officially hungry.

  30. Girl…you are so in luuuuuuurve. I can FEEL it through your posts. Seriously. πŸ™‚

I wish I would unplug more. I haven’t in for-EVER. As horrible as it sounds, I’m worried I’d feel a little lonely. Even people who live near me—or those who don’t, like my family–I connect with through electronic means.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! Stop it…you’re making me blush!! :$

But I totally get what you mean about the connectivity. I swear I get more news from my Facebook feed on most of my family than I do from actual phone calls and stuff! Though I have to say I’m actually pretty proud of myself for backing away from it all and refocussing a bit…I used to be TOO obsessed with checking my phone/email/twitter/etc for updates. Of course the only downfall…I may never be able to catch up now!

  31. It looks like you had so much fun! What I would give for a quiet romantic getaway like that right now!!

  32. oh my GOSH! Those s’mores look delicious πŸ™‚

  33. arrrrgghhh please tell me man-friend will be revealed soon! The man-friend mystery is driving meee crazy!
