My Marvelous Valentine

Hey guys!

Wow, so it seems I’m not the only pie fan out there! I’m so glad you all liked the look of yesterday’s Apple Pie Protein Pancakes! They are definitely one of my new favorites! Let me know if you give them a try, I’d love to hear what you think! πŸ™‚

So, how was your Valentine’s Day weekend?

Like I mentioned on Friday, the man-friend and I were gonna head to Memphis for the weekend, but our plans changed at the last minute. No need to worry though, because the past few days were nothing short of MARVELOUS!

Be sure to head on over to Healthy Diva Eats and check out all the other MARVELOUS linkups! And seriously, don’t you just LOVE this new logo?Β

So it all started on Thursday night. I met up with the man-friend in Nashville and we enjoyed a nice Valentine’s Day dinner at a new-to-me restaurant called Mere Bulles. It was a quaint little place…a Charleston plantation house made into a restaurant during the Civil War days…with charming decor and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Sorry guys…no pictures, but for an appetizer, we ordered the Black Forrest ham wrapped asparagus with goat cheese fondue and for our entrees, we both went with steak. I ordered a Filet Mignon topped with horseradish cream served with garlicky mashed potatoes, parmesan creamed corn, and roasted asparagus while he went with the New York Strip with roasted parmesan potatoes and haricot verts.

After dinner, we took advantage of one of the “perks” of being
a frequent red boxer…

MovieWe scooted back to the house with our free rental, changed into PJ’s and spent the rest of the night on the couch…oh andΒ FYI, the movie was fantastic…absolutely captivating!

And even though I would have been PERFECTLY fine had that been the full extent of our overly commercialized holiday evening, the man-friend had a bit more up his sleeve.

He walked into the next room, explaining how he was going to get me flowers, but wasn’t sure if I was a flower kind of gal or not, so instead, he told me he decided to go with the next best thing…

A DOZEN crisp and perfectly preserved…

DSC_0006KOMBUCHAS!!!

With plenty of my new-favorite flavor and a few others I’ve really been wanting to try!

I was seriously speechless you guys…like seriously…NO words!

But wait, there’s more…

DSC_0025

He got me a basket! Isn’t it cute?

Oh but wait, there’s some stuff inside you’re probably curious to see…

DSC_0024

Oh ma…holy cra…what tha…AHHHHHHH!

DSC_0022AHHHHHHHH!

*cracks open jar…dips finger in…licks finger…faints*

But wait…there’s MORE?!?

He tried to keep it a secret, but the poor thing sucks at lying…that night he told me that I had plans for in the morning…

IMG_1846

Ahhhhhhh! <- that’s a sigh, not a scream! πŸ˜‰

A full hour deep tissue WHOLE body massage at the local spa! Annnnnd?

Mimosa & Spa EatsWhile I waited for my masseuse, I sipped on my very FIRST mimosa and nibbled on some of the most amazing aged cheddar!

The rest of the weekend was spent doing a little of this…

Shopping & Movies

Big Lots and Marshall’s adventures (why yes, I DID find some new ginger chew flavors!…cue the intervention NOW!) and since the weather was cold and gloomyΒ (hmm, maybe we should have picked up a couple of those onesies! ;)), more movie watching! First time seeing Pulp Fiction…yeah, that was a weird one, but I’m not surprised since it’s a Tarantino film…and Midnight in Paris was really cute…
well, that is when I wasn’t staring at Owen Wilson’s honker! Lol

And a whole lotta THIS…

Weekend Eats

Details on all of THAT coming Wednesday!

Until then, who wants a ginger chew?

I figure if I share, you guys won’t call the producers of Hoarders on me! πŸ˜‰

What did YOU do for Valentine’s Day?

What’s the best surprise/gift you’ve received recently?

  3. katie says:

He did AMAZING! I did not know the spa present! He is a role model for men everywhere!!! I have to say, my Mike is one too πŸ˜‰

So happy you had a great Valentine’s Day! I love the basket full of ginger chews, too cute!!

    Happy Monday! <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thanks lovie! Guess we BOTH can consider ourselves pretty lucky! πŸ˜€ That card Mike left for you was the absolute sweetest…I actually “aww-ed” out loud! πŸ˜‰

  4. Wow you’ve definitely found a good one there haha! Food presents over flowers any day + a spa trip! Lucky you!
That maple bacon whipped mustard sounds unreal and all those ginger chews!! You’ve definitely got enough to keep you going now πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh I KNOW! I feel like I’ve got my very own TJ Maxx in my pantry! Lol And the maple bacon mustard is fantastic…so smokey and bacon-y! πŸ˜‰ I can’t wait to try it on a sandwich with some avocado and tomato! Mmmm!

  5. He did good! I love kombucha, its so expensive that I only splurge every so often!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Right?! I’ve only bought myself a case ONCE! And that was because they were on sale AND I got a 10% case discount! I’m definitely hoarding these! Lol

  6. Lee says:

Your man is a keeper for sure! I still think it’s so funny that he got you mustard.

  7. Whoa! He totally out did himself there! The spa on top of all that?! Can you please clone him? πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! One thing at a time dearie…I’m still working on my teleportation device! If it doesn’t pan out soon, I’m just gonna start digging a tunnel in my backyard that goes straight to your door! πŸ˜‰

  8. Wow! Way to go man friend! That’s an awesome Valentine’s surprise! I’ve been wanting to try the Lavender Kombucha but am scared I won’t like it. I just recently picked up a bag of the peanut ginger chews and wow! Those things are addicting! Might have to go snag some more!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, they’re ridiculous! I love the creamy flavor at first and then the nice kick of ginger spice! Out of all the floral flavors I’ve tried (Bilberry, Hibiscus, and Lavender), the lavender is by far the BEST! It’s got a really smooth flavor, but not so subtle that you can’t actually taste the lavender. πŸ™‚

  9. man I am jealous! those ginger chews are my favorite kind, the tjmaxx I go to for them was all out this weekend. AHHHHHH

    • kissmybroccoli says:

That was me the weekend before V-Day! I went to TWO different stores and they were BOTH out! Guess I’m stocked up pretty well now though! Haha!

  10. Calee says:

wow! your guy did a stellar job. he really knows you. πŸ™‚

  11. I want ALL the ginger chews. omigod obsessed.

  12. I LOVE that basket! And basically, if anyone gets me a spa gift card, they are my new best friend for life!

  13. Julie says:

Sounds like an amazing Valentine’s Day. Kombucha and ginger chews are so much better than flowers!

  14. Sounds and looks like an awesome Valentine’s Day! I started my night for happy hour at a wine bar with friends and then cooked dinner instead of going out somewhereβ€”NYC is crazy on V-day. Luckily, my guest agreed. Filet mignon & mushrooms with salad at home was way better than fighting the crowds this year : )

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, you did it up RIGHT! Sounds like a fantastic way to celebrate to me! We made our dinner reservations pretty late, so luckily we didn’t have to fight the masses!

  15. Wow, you got spoiled :-p
The boy and I ended up doing our Valentine’s on Saturday – we went out for all you can eat sushi. Cannot go wrong with that!

  16. Oooh, manfriend proved once again to know the way to your heart! Pretending I was still okay with being a single at the moment πŸ˜‰ … No, really, you deserve it!

And yes, Midnight in Paris is a nice movie. Don’t watch “To Rome with Love”, though – it surely isn’t one of Woody Allen’s masterpieces.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thanks sweetie! And good to know on the movie…I think I’ve seen that on Netflix a few times and was curious about it.

  17. Ok your man friend is a serious keeper! He definitely knows how to treat a lady. πŸ˜‰

What’s your favourite kombucha so far?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

That he DOES! I’m totally spoiled! πŸ˜‰

I LOVE the lavender, but I tried the grape chia the other day and it was amazing! I was disappointed with the hibiscus and the bilberry though…hardly any taste at all! πŸ™

  18. So happy for you Heather! You deserve it.
My valentine’s day was not so great. But I did start a karma program at one of my fav yoga studios – I do some cleaning around the studio in exchange for free yoga. Its amazing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, what a DEAL! I’d totally scrub some floors (or anything else) for some free yoga! Sorry your V-Day was less than stellar…text/call me if you need to talk pretty lady! :X

  19. YOU MADE OUT!!! I guess he loves you a lot! πŸ™‚

  20. What an amazing Valentines day basket! I haven’t tried kombucha. Ginger chews are amazing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, YES! Can you believe I only JUST NOW discovered them! I’ve been missing out for sure! Kombucha is a bit of an acquired taste, but it’s SO good for you…I’ve had some ups and downs with my digestion lately and it’s been working wonders for me! If you ever get a chance to try it, I suggest the strawberry, lavender, or grape…they’re my favorites!

  21. Man, this guy is good. Like really good. All that aside, I’m so happy you finally tried a mimosa. What’d you think? Are you destined to drink morning cocktails again?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, right?! I was so thinking of you as I was sipping on it! I wanted to tell you on Twitter, but then I realized you don’t have an account…what’s up with that woman?! πŸ˜‰ I thought it was pretty good, not life changing, but since I had just brushed my teeth before leaving the house, I’m willing to give it another try before making any final decisions! πŸ˜€

  22. What an amazing man! You are one lucky ducky girl!! My hubby gave me his cold for Valentine’s Day.

  23. purelytwins says:

    What a keeper πŸ˜‰
My hubby gave me a nice dinner out for Valentine’s day!

  24. :O Does Manfriend have a single brother or friend that he can hook me up with?! Seriously, your guy sounds amazing and I’m super happy for you! I love a man who can really get a good feel for his lady and shower her with the things she loves. Of course, relationships are about way more than just presents… buuuuuut you can’t complain about kombucha and ginger chews πŸ˜‰ (and yes, I’d like some!)

As for my Valentine’s… I spent it with my mom watching Gone With the Wind and eating chocolate chip cookies. Not too shabby at all πŸ˜€

    • kissmybroccoli says:

So true! I couldn’t help but think back to last V-Day…I got chocolate…and lots of it…I was so disappointed. But my mom was super excited when I regifted it to her for Mother’s day! πŸ˜‰

Man, I haven’t seen GWTW in forever! And now I want a chocolate chip cookie! Haha!

  25. kris says:

I’d say that he’s a keeper for sure! – I mean, ginger chews AND kombucha?? Nailed it.
    Lucky lucky girl πŸ™‚

  26. I already professed my love for the ginger chews on multiple social media so I will go ahead and hold off on that, but it is perfectly acceptable to profess my love for all those kombucha flavors, right? πŸ˜‰ I’m glad you enjoyed your Valentine’s day, even if it didn’t go exactly according to the original plan! Any meal involving goat cheese fondue is a sure winner in my book…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh I know! As soon as I saw it on the menu, I was sold! The only thing that would have made it better would have been some bread for dipping…our waiter totally flaked and forgot it! :-/

  27. Omg, Kombucha is the best gift ever!! I totally asked for it for Christmas. You are one lucky lady πŸ˜‰

  28. Maple Bacon Mustard! FTW! I can’t wait for your WIAW post so I can live vicariously through your eats. Your Valentine’s dinner sounds incredible.

I’ll definitely be renting the Perks this Friday. Glad it was a keeper.

  29. Holy crud, he definitely is a keeper [and probably outdid all of our lovers combined] πŸ˜›

You’ve got one heck of a man-friend! I have yet to get to Mere Bulles–I work next door (practically), but for some reason only the CEO/CMO/CFO-types get to go there on the company dollar ;D Looove that basket–and MIMOSAS! You got one!!

  32. I went to visit miss Brittany in Kentucky for Valentine’s Day–as you know πŸ˜‰ Lucky me!

That is an insane Valentine’s Day gift of kombucha and ginger chew love. Last Valentine’s Day, Mr. Mason Jar gave me roses to which he had died some paring knives and an herb cutter. It was pretty sweet. (Unfortunately I then had to ‘cut’ him out of my life…)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yeah, so I totally just Googled “Mr. Mason Jar” so I could catch that bit of action…can’t believe I missed all of that! Sorry to hear that things didn’t end up working out…sounds like he was a pretty nice guy (with very good taste in menu selections too!) πŸ˜‰
