There’s not much out there that can surpass the comfort
of a forkful of warm apple pie.
Unless of course it’s a forkful of warm apple pie for BREAKFAST!
And, if you hold the same opinion as I do, you’ll agree that the best apple pie comes with…
streusel cereal topping! 😉
With the cold wintry weather in full force this week, I had no other choice but to look to some warm foods for comfort. These pancakes hit the spot like NO other, but it took a couple of tries to get it just right.
I started out basing it off the recipe for my beloved Ginger Pear Pancakes, but I made a few tweaks to make sure that these babies were extra tender, extra flaky, and extra MOIST (it had to be said) just like REAL apple pie…
NNNNNNN-ailed IT! 😀

Nutrition facts for pancakes only using this protein powder:
A WHOLE pie…for breakfast…UNDER 300 calories…with OVER 20 grams of protein?
How in the world could you walk away from that?!
Unless of course you’re a bit of a traditional and think I committed a cardinal sin, denying the pie it’s classic, quintessential topping…
Did someone say al a mode?
…al a Greek yog-ode?
…ala whipped cottage chee-ode?
Or maybe that was a la Arctic Zero-de with warm, golden
accolades apple-ades*? 😉
Whichever way you decide, just prepare yourself, because this is one tender, mouth-watering, stack of…
Warm and melty apple pie DELICIOUSNESS!
*For warm apple topping, combine chopped apples, 1/8 teaspoon apple pie spice, and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Microwave for 1 minute or until apples are tender.
What is your favorite type of pie?
I do appreciate a fine apple pie, but my heart will always “pump” for pumpkin! 😉
What’s the last comfort food you indulged in?
I had some fried chicken (my first in YEARS), mashed potatoes, and collard greens from the Whole Food’s hot bar for dinner last night…YUM!
I’d never say no to apple pie, even at breakfast :-p
My favourite kind of pie is lemon meringue. I’m not a huge lemon dessert fan, but for some reason, in pie form I cannot get enough of it.
I’ve never really been a big fan of lemon desserts either…I blame my grandpa and the time he tricked me into eating a lemon cream sandwich cookie (I thought it was vanilla)! 😛
YUM! Apple pie is such a great flavor 😀
I seriously think I might make these right now… maybe not with ice cream since it’s 10am. Or maybe so… 🙂
Favorite pie: Kentucky Derby Pie.
Made them. Love. Definitely don’t skip the cardamom! Brilliant add. 🙂
Why thank you m’dear! I thought it added just the right amount of “oomph”! 😉
I’ve never been able to eat Derby Pie…it’s just too much for me, BUT now you’ve got me thinking…shall I healthify and PANCAKE it?! 😉
Oh my. I would love to wrap my chops around them.
Oh wowza this looks delicious –
i strangely don’t like any warm pies..i love the flavour of them; like i would love these pancakes but i don’t like the actual pie haha! odd or what!
Actually, when it comes to pies, I’d rather have them cold…ESPECIALLY when it comes to pumpkin pie! It kills me how most of my family wants to dig into the pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving almost as soon as it cools off from the oven! Not me, I’d rather wait, pop it in the fridge…and have it for breakfast in the morning! 😉
I just mmm’ed out loud. I think you nailed it with the crunchy cereal topping.
Favorite pie is most definitely apple. And last comfort food I indulged in was peanut m&m’s (does that count?) which I ate by the handfuls last night. I’ve also been eating lots and lots of chocolate. Can you tell I like sweets? 😉
Haha! Hey, a woman is entitled to her chocolate! 😉
DELISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish mine came out looking like that! 😉
These look fab. My fave pie is pumpkin.. with extra whipped cream, of course.
I picked up a President’s Day cherry pie today, then it slid vertically while we were walking home from the store. It won’t look as pretty as these pancakes, but it will taste delicious.
Last comfort food? I scored some tail right before the Superbowl, so we dined on Ox Tail stew with roasted potatoes. That’s comfort food to me. Though I adore collards, esp off a hot food bar that someone else slaved over.
Oh no!! Poor pie! Totally sounds like something that would happen to me! Haha!
I’ve always wanted to try oxtail stew! Oh, and I am with you on the greens…I’ve tried, but I just can’t seem to make them at home! They never turn out right!
Favorite pie: Tart Cherry Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream!
Last night I had eggplant parm, with a side of spaghetti, bread, and salad with ranch dressing and I finished it. Those 10 miles on Friday had me seriously craving carbs. No guilt at all. 😉
Mmm, what a FEAST! And after 10 miles, you better not have any guilt…you TOTALLY deserved each and every saucy bite! 😀
YUMMM! Oh my gosh Heather you’ve seriously outdone yourself. These look like your best yet! I love apple pie so much – but I love pumpkin pie just a wee bit more. 😉
The last comfort food I indulged in was Montreal smoked meat sandwiches and fries last night. SO good!
Aww shucks, thanks Chelsea! 🙂
Mmm, I’m not exactly sure what’s in a smoked meat sandwich, but it sounds delicious!
Oh my. Those pancakes look so thick and fluffy – YES PLEASE!!
…i’m pretty sure I could eat this for every single meal & be perfectly happy 🙂
Haha! Me too! 😀
Wow, I’m loving the addition of crunch to the top of these. You’re a mad food genius, and I mean that as a a compliment.
Favorite pie: apple or pretty much any type of berry or lemon or really anything with fruit.
Haha! Confession: Sometimes I envision myself as a mad scientist/chef in the kitchen…complete with white lab coat, crazy hair, and of course, my pancake spatula! 😉
And all this talk about fruit is making me crave COBBLER!!
These look soooo goooood! I don’t think I’ve ever met a pie I don’t like, but pumpkin is probabaly my go-to. I made a s’mores pie once from Cookies and Cups that was heaven though.
Oh wow, s’mores pie sounds divine! I was Pinterest hopping last night and spotted the most beautiful peanut butter pie ever! Mmm, peanut butter S’MORES pie would be AWESOME!!

These look AMAZING Heather! Well, not that they ever don’t like sooo drool worthy! 😉 I am definitely making these this week! And the Jay Robb protein powder is the best! I have been using it since Alexandra did a review back last December and I can’t go back to anything else!! Have an awesome day! 🙂
Aww, thank you Sarah! And I can’t wait to hear what you think! 🙂
I can’t believe I’m only just NOW realizing how good JR protein powder is! And it does SO well in recipes! A couple of years ago, I had a coupon and decided to live on the wild side and tried his pina colada flavor…unfortunately I thought it was disgusting and never thought of trying another one until I just happened upon a sale, but I’m not sure about any of the other flavors…maybe I’ll just stick with the vanilla?
I’m picky about my apple pie, but your breakfast version does sound mighty tasty!
Shut the front door – you have totally outdone yourself! Please travel up to DC one day soon and teach me your awesome pancake making ways?! I am drooling… I’ve been obsessed with apple spice anything lately – caramel apple spice pancakes the past few mornings for breakfast, oh yeah – these look like those on ‘roids 😀
Aww shucks girl…you’re making me blush over here! THANK YOUUUUUU! And I’d be MORE than happy to whip you up a batch! I HAVE always wanted to see the nation’s capital! 😉 xoxo
I am SO in love with cardamom in pancakes right now! Randomly threw it into some choco-pancakes over the weekend…why have I not been doing that for years?? And yes, these pancakes look like (yet another) pancake dream come true! Apple pie as pie isn’t my favorite, but I love apple crisp, apple pancakes, apple cake. Don’t ask me why I glance over the pie. Mincemeat pie was my childhood favorite. I was an odd child.
Mincemeat?! I’m not gonna knock it since I’ve never tried it, but I always imagined it tasting like potted meat or Vienna sausage or something! Lol
I like apple pie, but I’d definitely choose a crisp any day…as long as it was served ala mode! 😀
It’s actually not at all savory–it’s dried fruit, liquor and spices, haha. Old school versions have actual meat, but most don’t now.
Oh wow, I never even knew that! I just always assumed by the name that they were full of “potty meat” as my sister and I used to call it! Lol! But hey, I can get down with some liquor…um, I mean dried fruit and spices and such! 😉
Cardamom should NEVER be optional. 😉
These look phenomenal darling. (Don’t they always?)
I am loving on anything apple pie flavored lately, but I am so fickle when it comes to my ‘favorites.’ Last night, peanut butter cream pie was all I wanted. Today, I am thinking that cherry pie would be delicious. In the end, I really just want the filling, so maybe I don’t prefer pie at all?
Haha! Now I have to admit, when it comes to fruity pies with a crust…especially the criss-cross butter/crack filled ones…I am ALL about the crust! I know it’s not technically “pie” but my favorite part of a peach cobbler is the crust where it’s crisp on one side and soggy and warm on the other…swooooon!
