One of Those Weeks

It’s been one of those weeks…

DSC_0009

Where a lack of sleep has had me craving sweets left and right.

And a bag of SWEETENED banana chips has been demolished.

IMG_1660

Where a ice cream for dinner/breakfast/whatevermeal has happened.

With copious amounts of peanut butter swirled smushed throughout.

DSC_0022

Where savory meals have been necessary after OD’ing on ice cream.

Even though I still want chocolate chips afterward.

Where a MUCH anticipated taste of something ended up being disappointing.

#kindatasteslikesuntanlotion 😯

Flowers Collage

Where a mind-clearing walk trumped folding three loads of laundry.

And yes, I’m that creepy person standing in your yard taking a picture of your flowers.

Funny Name

Where an unexpected laugh was very much appreciated.

“A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam BOOM!” 😆

Spaghetti Squash with Creamy Avocado Sauce

Where there just wasn’t enough hours in ANY day to get these photos ready for a recipe post.

Where losing myself to some dubstep has been critical to maintaining my sanity.

Where I will be working ANOTHER Saturday shift because we are that short-staffed.

Where I will spend the next 36 hours living unapologetically…surrounded by people I care about…doing things that I love…and trying to fight off the acne from three days of bingeing on sugar.

Thinking-Out-Loud

Where I will be using Amanda’s ToL as an excuse for publishing this thrown-together post. And hopefully, I’ll be back on my game next week!

What do you do when your week gets stressful?

  1. You know my thoughts already but this one bears repeating: Live unapologetically – yes!! <3

  2. Hilary says:

Oh gosh that sweets for every meal sound so like me right now! Good thing I had no banana chips because I demolish those babies on a daily basis!

  3. Aw I’m sorry! We all have those weeks. At least you got a good laugh and some good music! Love flight facilities. Check out Foreign Language by FF. Might help pull you out of your funk xo

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yep, that one’s on my list too! Actually, I had never heard of it until you posted your Coachella playlist so thank you for that! The healing power of music, huh? It’s amazing!

  4. Courtney says:

I turn to music when I’m in a funk, too. My dubstep go-to is White Satin by Zeds Dead. I’ve been craving sugar like a mad woman lately too, my boyfriend even brought me one of those ice cream drumsticks last night. I don’t know what you (unofficially) call them over in the states, but my parents have always called them “nutty buddies”, haha. 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yep, that’s what I call them too…one of my favorites when I was a kid…though I always had to resist the (messy) urge to eat them backwards! Lol

  5. Oh girl, I TOTALLY understand. I’ve definitely been trying to push down the stress eating from happening these last few weeks. It hasn’t always been easy but sometimes you just need a few chocolate chips. 😉

  6. That is one of my all time favourite songs 🙂

I’m starting nursing in september.. kind of nervous for the crazy hectic day/night shift call you 24/7 schedule!

  7. Lyric says:

I am mos definitely not the best at handling stress but I know that about myself so generally I try and think ahead about weeks or days I know are going to be stressful! Like for example if I know I have a lot of work/school work to get done I will try and make my life just a little bit easier and meal prep/ blog post prep LOL.

And on that not Im sorry your so stressed out <3 Hopefully things calm down a bit for ya but for now you just gotta keep on keepin' on 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you, Lyric! I think I’ve finally gotten past the thickest of the thick now…I’m definitely feeling more recharged and refocussed…of course, I’m sure that’s due to me getting two days of good sleep too! Can’t ever underestimate the power of the snooze! 😉

  8. Just a word to keep you thinking rationally. Knowing you, you usually taste something after building it up in your mind and you never actually like it on the first try. Now that you’ve tried it, give it a few more tries down the road and you may like it better later 🙂 love ya.
And I’ve had the opposite this week. I literally haven’t had chocolate in 5 days. I’m shocked. I feel like I’m coming out of a cloud! Its absolutely insane for me. And for “sweets” I’ve been shoveling dates stuffed with Justin’s vanilla almond butter down my gob so quickly. Addict.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thanks girlie! I think that was part of my thinking last week…coupled with a feeling of guilt for actually liking whatever it was I felt wasn’t “worth” the like…yeah, hopefully that makes sense!

And wait a minute…you have Justin’s vanilla almond butter and you didn’t tell me?! How is it???

  9. I TOTALLY feel you. I’ve had a stressful week too and ended up eating many a thing I shouldn’t have. I usually try to make a to do list because I tend to get stressed from being overwhelmed with so many things to catch up on and then I try to cross them off one by one. I also have been trying to be more realistic with the time that I have. I’m not always going to want to do a billion things after I get off work and I’m going to force myself to not worry about cleaning up a mess in order to spend time with friends. Hang in there!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thanks for the encouragement, Arianna! I like the idea of making out a list to help get things done…I try to do the same, but I usually end up crossing off a few things and then losing my list! Haha! I hope things mellowed out for you a bit and you were able to recharge over the weekend! *hugs*

  10. I hear you about working Saturdays. I’ve been at the hospital almost every Saturday this year, and even though my manager just told me the plan is to get me off weekends and into more “normal” hours, it’s not gonna be for a while still, as we’re a bit short-staffed.

During rough weeks, I try to do something nice for myself like get a massage or take a favorite yoga class. Or maybe it’s simply just saying “no” to an invitation I don’t really wanting to accept. I also like to treat myself to a “brain fluff” magazine or a new kindle book.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, so you know EXACTLY what it’s like! It sucks being so short-staffed…I’m just hoping that since we got a new boss last week that things will start to level out soon! I hope things start looking up for you, hon, especially with the weather getting nicer…Saturdays are meant for frolicking! 😉

And yes to “brain fluff” magazines! I never buy them myself, but one of my coworkers always brings in her People magazines and I can never seem to go a whole shift without sneaking a few peeks! Haha!

  11. This has been me over the past few days. Easter was a jerk to my stomach, I now want chocolate for ALL my meals, work has been driving me insane, there’s been NO sun for the past 4 days, and I’m going to have to switch back to half-caf coffee at Bux because I’ve been getting hit with these weird caffeine headaches in the mornings and early afternoons. Ugh. So basically… you’re not alone 😉 And thank you for that song… Going to get lost in it now.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh honey!! You have been having a rough go at it! I hope this weekend gave you a chance to recharge and get back to feeling like yourself again! *hugs*

  12. Calee says:

tootie louie! haha. I really shouldn’t laugh at people’s names … buuut ….

PS we have had a similar diet lately. I recently rediscovered cereal since I’ve been doing OK with rice. You know what’s awesome? Cocoa krispies with whipping cream instead of milk. Tastes like melted ice cream … but crunchy. Also, I wasn’t binging. That happened because I had leftover whipping cream from making a cake (this is sounding oh-so-convincing, I know) and I was out of milk.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Oh girl, you’re awesome! And you know, I can’t say that I’ve ever tasted whipping cream straight up before. Hmmm…..

  13. KAT says:

Yikes is that a real name? That can’t be real. Parents can be so cruel….
And courtesy of that wonderful month bill us women folk get, Ive been craving all things naughty. Chocolate? YES. My hand has been in the chocolate chip bag one too many nights. Carbs? YEP. Bought a jumbo box of wheat thins at Costco…. BAD idea. Seriously theres no such thing as portion control in my house this week….

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Yeah, Costco sure knows how to ruin the best of portion control intentions with they’re ginormo bags of carby goodness! Totally did that once with a thing of pretzel thins…when I bought them, I was like, “ohhh, these are gonna last forever!” I think they made it a week! 😯

  14. Tootie Louie?! LMAO! That’s what you should name your first born.

Sorry you have to work, friend. You can text me if you need entertainment! Mwah!

  15. I feel like that’s one of those names that you change the day you turn 18…
And I’m 100% with you on the sugar cravings. Between Easter a stressful week, I’ve been eating Easter chocolate like it’s my job…oops.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Right?! Especially if you don’t intend on joining the circus! Lol! Hope the weekend was good to you after such a stressful week, love! I’m behind on my blog reading, but I’ll be catching up with you later tonight! 😀

  16. Heather says:

I was seriously disappointed when I tried that La Croix. It did taste like sunscreen!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Man am I glad to finally find someone who thinks that! I couldn’t believe how many people on Instagram said it was their favorite flavor! Mmmm, Coppertone! 😛

  17. Ohhhh yes. One of those weeks indeed. They threw a new work roster at me and the times are so annoying- especially with the weather getting darker by the minute!

Easter sparked the most bizarre foodie monster in me- I’m craving salt like no other. I had hummus and guac flavoured chips for breakfast today. Like, actually went out and bought it lol.

  18. Aw this blows, especially after coming off such a marvelous weekend. At least you’re doing the things you can to keep your sanity (music: check, walks: check, bagging laundry in favor of said walks: check). I think immersing yourself with those that love you this weekend sounds like a perfect plan.

P.S. I totally got the song reference: A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam BOOM. It’ll be stuck in my head today for sure. I’m kind of excited about it. 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I should’ve known I could count on you my little musical maniac! 😉 And thank you…the weekend had it’s ups and downs, but I’m definitely feeling more recharged now…though maybe not enough to tackle that laundry that’s still waiting to be folded. Wait, didn’t you say the hubby liked to do that sort of thing? Mind if I borrow him?

PS, just thought you’d find it humorous to know that while I was typing up this response, I got an alert from you on Instagram! Lol

  19. Ugh I totally know how you feel – this week has been jam packed busy and I’ve barely had a second to myself. I hope you finally get to catch a break on Sunday!

  20. If it makes ya feel any better- you’re not alone! Crazy how stress affects everything! Hope your weekend brings out a bit of sunshine and brightful cheer somehow:) PS- I am creepy and take pictures of other people’s flowers too:)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Nice! So good to know I’m not the only crazy creeper! 😉 And thanks, Heather, I am definitely feeling recharged and ready to take on another week now!

  21. Lucie says:

Gosh, I’m SO there with you!! My back is half-injured, I have 7000 tons of paper on my desk at work which should be sorted (will need to do that on Sunday – in case that makes you feel better) and my consumption of chocolate is plain crazy.
Sending you tons of powerful and positive hugs girlfriend!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thanks Lucie!! The hugs must’ve found they’re way over the seas because I’m feeling MUCH better! Hope you had a chance to recharge yourself over the weekend…and I hope you back is feeling better! Hugs back! 🙂

  22. kim says:

Ah yes… I know the feeling… just get over the weekend and recoup on Monday. 🙂

  23. lindsay says:

get some rest friend. but i must admit, i love your throw together posts! xxoo

  24. Depending on the week I turn to red wine, or chocolate. The best things I do though is when I’m kind to myself like doing meditation, getting a massage or manicure and telling myself its ok not to exercise and do everything perfect when I’m that stressed. Also nothing beats talking it out for me to help me feel better.

I hope you get the must needed sleep you need!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

“The best things I do though is when I’m kind to myself” <- A-to the freaking-MEN!! I lost sight of how important that is last week, but I'm recharged and refocussed now and ready to get back to taking CARE of me! And thanks girl, I did finally get some rest...two days in a row I might add! You must've been sending me some good strong sleepy vibes! 😉
