Thinking Out Loud: Up Up Up!

What’s uhhhhhhp?!

Happy Thursday, kittens! I hope you’ve all been having a great week. Things have been pretty freaking fantastic over here in Broccoliland…especially since the weather has been looking up a bit. Get this…we’ve officially made it ABOVE FREEZING! Ok, so maybe it’s only a few digits but couple that with the fact that I’ve seen the sun more than not in the last seven days and yeah, I’m a happy girl!

Thanks to the vitamin D motivation AND the momentum I built up last week, I’ve been hitting the gym pretty regularly and may or may not have over a dozen selfies to prove it. I’ll save you guys from all my goofy faces and the “I’m sorry but WHERE did dat ass come from?” revelation pic, but you’re gonna have to see my proud mug at least once! 😉

Gym Selfie

How awesome is it that I’ve only been I’ve times in the last two weeks but I can already see an improvement in my stamina? Oh and I FINALLY got back to the yoga studio! It was so so nice to walk in and see my favorite instructor, David, and receive his warm welcome. It was almost like I never left…well, until we got to crow and yeah, that was just NOT happening. But instead of getting bummed out, I just did my best to listen to my body (and my knee a couple of times when it lamented) and did the best I could. The best part was at the end of the class, right before shavasana where I learned a few new hip opening poses that felt amazing!

After class, I was one relaxed mama…one relaxed mama with a plan to put herself in a coma for at LEAST eight hours. After not having much luck sleeping through Monday’s storm, I was starting to get a little whiney/whimpery/annoying and needed sleep in the worst way so yoga was only number one in a series of steps that I had mapped out…

Wine & Sushi

A stress free dinner, two glasses of wine and one soak in the tub later and I was niiiiiiiiice and hazy. And? Well, it took a couple of tries but I was finally off to La La Land around 5am and then slept for eight.solid.uninterrupted.hours. Victory at last! Oh and FYI, that wine is AWESOME…and only $12 at my local liquor store! 🙂

But the excitement didn’t end there. When I woke up the next morning afternoon, I had a little something waiting for me. Remember those retail therapy purchases last week?

Sephora Makeup

Ta-daaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Is it bad that I get THIS EXCITED about trying new makeup-y things? I’ve been looking into a new cleansing/moisturizing regime (especially since turning the big 3-0) so I was so excited to see these two box sets. I hear that Sephora Favorite collections rarely disappoint so I’m figuring the hardest part is going to be picking ONE favorite to purchase after I make my way through all of these.

And to help me feel better about my little splurge? How about I got Elvira a FULL tank of gas yesterday for only $25?! I haven’t seen prices this low in YEARS!

Gas Station Pump

Hell yeah? HELLS YEAH!!

Now, while I did have a little minor setback earlier this week (that really shouldn’t have been anything but a blip in the radar (remember, whiney/whimpery/annoying), I have since looked past the fact that I had a momentary lapse of judgment halfway through making dinner and made these beautiful white wine simmer mushrooms…

Mushrooms in Wine

Into a curdled mess! 🙁

In case any of you guys don’t know about tempering your sauces before adding sour cream/yogurt, have a little look at this article and learn a little something from me! Also? Whenever you fuck something up, dry your tears, walk away…do what you gotta do but DON’T throw it away! Just toss it in a crock pot with half your kitchen and…

Crock Pot Beef Stew Feed your entire neighborhood for a WEEK!

Or you know, have dinner then separate and freeze the rest. Right, Meghan?

This week’s song choice is not really a choice at all…with that title, I just HAD to (and couldn’t help but jump up and down in my seat a bit when I remembered it. What can I say? This song by the Givers is one of my old favorites and always peps me up!

Yeah, just TRY to sit still after hitting play! 😉

Thinking-Out-Loud

Be sure to hop on over to Spoons to check all out the link ups for ToL! Hopefully everyone else is rocking a big thumbs up like me! 🙂

What do you give a big thumbs up this week?

What’s the last kitchen “disaster” you were able to save?

  1. That wine is $9.99 at Kroger. 😉

  2. I got a sephora gift card for christmas so I’ll definitely be making some make up purchases, soon! It IS like therapy 😉

  3. You are 100% correct, and you’re going to thank me for that freezer stash later, when you’re starving and tired and don’t want to cook, but want something warm and healthy.

Glad you finally got some zzz’s. Have you tried tea with Valerian Root yet? If not, give it a whirl. If you hate it, I’m sure you can freeze the leftovers…or something.

I’ve tried chammomile and lavender, but I don’t think I’ve had valerian. Luckily I’ve been sleeping like a baby for the last week but I’ll keep it in mind for the next time my little sleep roller coaster takes a nose dive!

  4. Katie says:

Okay, you may think you need a new skincare regimen, but may I just say your skin is positively FLAWLESS? Seriously, that picture of you at the gym is amazing!

  5. I am BEYOND excited about cheap gas is right now… it’s crazy awesome!

  6. That Purity cleanser has been the love of my life for the past… 5 years? It’s AMAZING. And I love the Josie Maran argan oil and the Tarte maracuja as well. So, so good. Aaaand there went my train of thought. Sorry. It’s mid afternoon which means that I’m basically brain dead. And rambling. BUT I -can- say that we’ve been having pretty darn awesome weather here as well, and despite the fact that it’s grey and ugly, the temp is warm so my heart is happy. Woot.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yay! It’s been warmer down here too! Even got up to the 50’s (10’s for you?…wow, that just sounds weird to me!) one day last week. Felt like summer! Lol. I couldn’t help but think of you when I saw the Tarte maracuja. But tell me, what’s the best way to use it? It says on the bottle to rub 2-3 drops in your hands and then smooth on face and neck, but after I rub it into my hands, I feel like there’s nothing left! Should I add it to a moisturizer or something?

  7. I hope you review some of those products you bought! I’ve seen some of them at Sephora and wondered if they’re worth it.

This week I give a big thumbs up to shrimp tacos and finding a job!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I definitely will! The only thing about finding great products is sharing them with others.

Congratulations on the new job sweetie! So I guess this means the move is next?

  8. Kat says:

Congrats on getting your booty back into the gym! And I think you should share alllll the booty selfies. Never any shame when it comes to the booty 😉
And pleasssseeeee do some reviews on your new makeup/cleansers!! I stinking love new products and since you and I both are gingers, Im thinking we have similar skin! 🙂

  9. Love some of those sephora packages. I have a gift card and I swear deciding is the hardest part of having it. I want every single thing. 🙂

  10. I’ve been so curious to try the apothic white wine since I love the red so much—I’ll have to check it out!

I changed to the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer a few years ago (the yellow one) and I love it. It’s gentle and somehow manages to moisturize without any greasiness. I don’t use it right now, but I also remember their toner is very nice. Next time I need eye cream, I’m going to try one of theirs too, I think. That’s the one item I really splurge on—maybe it’s worth it?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh, I’ll keep that in mind! I’m always on the lookout for non-greasy moisturizers. I’ve been using the Garnier Fructis moisture rescue gel cream. One of the only ones I could find for combination skin at a drugstore that isn’t overly greasy.

  11. Freezing Food is my lifesaviour. So is wine, sleep and cosmetics. You are SO alive!!

  12. HOLY SHIT THOSE GAS PRICES!! Wow. That is wonderful. We’re in the $2.40ish range over here in NorCal, which still feels amazing compared to the $4ish it used to be in past years.

Oh, and way to kill it at the gym! I love the proud workout face selfie.
