What I Ate Wednesday: Instagrammed

Hey hey my food lovin’ friends!

Are you guys ready to party with Jenn and all the other cool kids?

Well I hope so because I’ve got a new twist on it this week…

What I Instagrammed Wednesday!

For those of you who don’t know about Instagram, it’s a free photo sharing app for the iPhone

and I’m totally addicted!

Breakfast: Oats with peanut flour, maple extract, Baker’s chocolate, and some more of my travel loot…honey roasted peanuts!

Mmmm!

And of course, what would breakfast be without the “usual suspects”?

Snack: New-to-me protein energy bar

I swear this thing tasted like dessert!

A low in sugar dessert with a protein PUNCH!

Lunch: Honey Curried Chicken Salad on whole wheat bread with romaine and cukes

One of the best chicken salads I’ve ever tasted!
Recipe coming soon!

Preworkout: Date-age

Post workout: Shake-age

Where’s My Cabana Boy Recovery Shake:

  • 6 ounces cold water
  • 1 serving vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup diced fresh pineapple
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (or 1/4-1/2 teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 1 Tablespoon coconut flour
  • 4-5 ice cubes
Throw everything in a blender (or in my case, magic bullet) and blend away! Pour into a glass (or just drink it out of the blender/magic bullet container like a classy, middle-aged, drunken woman on the beach). Grab your shades, kick back and wait for “Fernando” to come and take your order (he’s the one in the blue Speedo) πŸ˜‰
*—–*—–*

And then I got ready for a night out

*—–*—–*

A friend of mine and I decided to go out for a game of bowling…

With a friendly little wager…

Loser pays for dinner!

I had high hopes in the first game…yeah, “You Loser” would be me…and that strike would be a first of many granny-bowl mini victories!

Second game: Check out those spares!

Sadly, in the third and final game, granny got tired while he got his second win…

THREE strikes?! Are you kidding me?

Even sadder (more sad?) was his choice in victory dinner…

I’m sure you can recognize this combo: House salad and Minestrone

Yep, of all the places in Clarksville, he chose Olive Garden!

The victory meal itself: The Seafood Brodetto
Scallops, shrimp and delicate tilapia with spinach and mushrooms simmered in a light white wine and marinara-saffron broth. Served with toasted ciabatta bread <- Yeah, believe me, not as fancy as it sounds!

The (only) highlight of the meal:

C’mon, who can turn down an Andes?

Do you like to bowl? If so, what’s your highest score?
I think my highest was around 140 or so…but I’m thinking of improving that someday…I just need to rent a couple of kids so I can score those bumper guards! πŸ˜‰

What’s the best thing you ate today?

  2. lucie says:

I used to love bowling as a kid – I pretty much suck at it though, my 4 year old cousin beat the whole family once, haha. Yummy eats too! x

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! There was this little boy next to us that was hilarious to watch…his ball took like 2 minutes just to make it down to the pins! One time, he actually got a spare and I thought he was going to explode! Too cute!

  3. Jodie says:

    Im with you. OG SUCKS.

  4. Leigh says:

I suck at bowling haha, probably 110 is my highest.
Instagram is amazing, although I’m going to have to have an intervention on my boyfriend soon because he is beyond obsessed. Hipstamatic is a good app too, you have to pay but the effects are really good.

That chicken salad looks amazing, did you make it?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hmm, haven’t heard to hipstamatic…might have to take a look into it. I love playing around with photo effects…hmm, now that I think about how much time I lose playing on picnik.com, maybe that’s not such a good idea! Haha!

Yep, the chicken salad is one of my newest recipe creations. I’ll be posting about it later in the week!

  5. katie says:

Before I forget, Andes Mints are the damn BEST! When I was younger, my aunt was a flight attendant for US Airways and they would give those to passengers on the plane, so she would always take a ton and bring them for my sisters and I ! I looooooove them, loved her for doing that! ha!

I love your smoothie, it makes me feel like I should be on a beach right now, in reality, Im in a house full of damn boxes everywhere, its a disaster ! : p

    love you!

  6. lindsay says:

no one should ever turn down an Andes. Its illegal! nice bowling shoes, very stylish and vintage. haha.

  7. Jessica says:

haha…worst bowler ever right here! always fun though once you realize you’re with a group that is only slightly more talented at hurling a ball down a lane. can all laugh at each other πŸ˜›

your honey curried chicken salad sounds so good! curious about how you made it :]

best thing i’ve had…well…it’s early and i’ve only had breakfast so far…but seeing as how that’s usually my favorite anyway, i’m going with that – banana bread and a banana with peanut butter πŸ™‚

  8. I freaking love honey roasted peanuts!

  9. Sarah says:

OMG I’m the worst bowler ever!!!

  10. Cherie says:

    WOOOAH now giant date!!

  11. PB&Jenny says:

is this “friend” really just a “friend” or is he a “mannnnnnnnfriend!” πŸ˜‰ oh god, I’m so presumptuous! anyhow.. it sounds like a fabulous night out, despite his less than stellar food preferences.

p.s. I’m curious how you incorporated the PF in to your oats. I’ve been trying all different combos but am not sure how much to add or if I should add it as the powder or as a PF sauce (mixed with milk and stevia). Clearly, I’m really stressed out about peanut flour πŸ˜‰

    love you, KMB!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Sorry to disappoint m’dear, but this “friend” is just a friend, but I love you and your presumptuousness! πŸ˜‰

I usually do 1/2 cup oats + 1 cup of water, microwaved, add 1/4 cup peanut flour and then stir the bloody hell out of it until all the clumps break up (the only downside to peanut flour is the clumpiness)! I also like to add it into Greek yogurt or cottage cheese too. Ohhh, or on top of cereal bowls…there’s nothing like spooning up a bit of gloopy peanutty goodness mixed into your favorite cereal! πŸ™‚

  12. Anastasia says:

Looks like some good eatin’! That date looks huge! Out of all the places.. Olive Garden, huh? I’m sorry you had to endure that haha

I suck at bowling but it is so much fun! I never keep track of my score but I know it has never been good.

  13. Shannon says:

I keep seeing peanut flour all over blog world! I NEED to get some really really soon! πŸ™‚ Your breakfast looks delish!

  14. Ty says:

Maybe it’s bad but I absolutely love the salad (dressing) at olive garden. I go and eat approximately 5 bowls. O.o

Haha so I would not be disappointed. Although I am ALL about the salad and breadsticks, not much on the entrees they serve.

  15. You had me at peanut butter + maple. (Add a little coconut and you’ve got my current flavor obsession.)

  16. Hahaha I’m an AWFUL Bowler. Like really terrible.

But I’m obsessed with instagram. Actually, I think the man-friend is even more obsessed than I am. He doesn’t have it on his phone so every 10 minutes he’s like “let me see your phone! I want to instagram that!” hahaha

  17. Kate says:

Bowling is one of those sports I’m horrible at (no really– horrible) and yet I still like it. What sport can you turn down that you can still eat nachos and beer between rounds? I think not!

  18. Lizzie says:

im a terrible bowler! i always have to use bumpers! lol πŸ™‚

  19. I love to bowl, but I suck at it. The eats look good, thanks so much sharing and I love the instagram twist on it.

  20. janetha says:

    HEY this looks familiar! πŸ˜‰

  21. My parents always choose to eat at Olive Garden… Blech! What a waste of a meal!! I try to avoid chains 99% of the time, but sometimes when its someone else’s turn to choose (ie their bday/lost a bet!) ya just gotta suck it up.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’m the same…I rarely EVER eat at chain restaurants! If I’m going to PAY for food, it better be good and it better be something that’s different/special (ie, something I can’t make myself!)

  22. ohhhh I love you! haha
First of all- loving the oat bowl. Who can say no to oats. I need to get up on my toppings. Do you mix them in or eat them off the top?
secondly that bar looks good. Need to eat bars.
thirdly I suck at bowling but I love it. I once tried to bowl a flat 0 but it gave me an automatic 1. Another time I bowled into the other lane and got a strike for some other player. haha.
    ooooh stories of that.
best thing I ate today? Well my kabocha had potential but it was watery for some reason. mehhh

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, I literally laughed out loud at this! You got a strike in another lane?! That is awesome in so many ways! Haha!

I’m a dedicated oatmeal mixer…no matter how good it looks for the pictures, it always ends up looking like brown goop when I’m ready to eat!

  23. Instagram is totally addicting and wonderful! If I’m not playing around with my own pictures, I’m browsing some of the amazing ones that others come up with. I really need to stop letting myself be so easily distractible…

And I used to love bowling a lot. Err… at least when it came to goofing around. I don’t think I’ve ever played a game seriously, but it’s a great way to spend a night out for sure πŸ˜€

  24. Lauren says:

Fact: My boyfriend is a HUGE bowler. I’m talking owns his own rolling bowling bag, 4 balls and is in a serious weekly bowling league. It’s embarrassing. He bowled his first 300 last year! I hate going bowling with him because I pretty much just try to throw it down the middle every time and he insists on coaching me.

Instagram did your eats good πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow…big time! I don’t think I could bowl even a 200 if my life depended on it! I can see how bowling with a “pro” could be a bit frustrating…kinda takes the fun out of it! πŸ™

  25. Alexis says:

Love all your photos! All your food looks amazing! I want to know where to get that power crunch bar. I love bars with low sugar and high protein = win
    I’m a TERRIBLE bowler. I usually stick to a 6lbs ball. Pathetic

  26. Best WIAW!!!! Love the instagram and everything sounds soooo good. Well, besides Olive Garden. Their food looks straight up nasty to me even in commercials. I always tell Peter “if it doesn’t even look irresistible in commercials then you know it can’t be good”.

  27. Oh my gosh I am the WORST bowler! I am rather impressed with your score of 140, I think my highest is maybe 90? Ugh sad but true haha
I am loving all of your food pics…you make Olive Garden look decent! πŸ™‚
    Happy WIAW!

  28. Your pictures look so neat! and I cannot wait until you post the recipe for the chicken salad because that looks so delicious!

  29. I’m HORRIBLE at bowling, but I love doing it because it’s fun to laugh at myself πŸ™‚ That energy bar really looks like a candy bar…I wanna try it!
