Foodie Meets Foodtruck!

What up peeps!

Oh my gosh, thank you all SO much for all the wonderful comments about my new ‘do and yesterday’s pancake flippin’ comeback! You guys are the best!

So I am MORE than excited to share something with you today…

One of the biggest things on my bucket list was officially marked off on Saturday afternoon…and to think, I wouldn’t have known anything about it if it weren’t for one of my fellow Fitfluential Ambassadors…

Tess, I seriously owe you one…BIG TIME!

Oh yeah…you read that right: food…truck….festival! OMG!

But just WAIT till you see the pics!

BB and I headed out on Saturday afternoon and ended up getting to the park around 3pm. We jumped in line to pay for admission and get our armbands…I swear to you guys it felt like I was standing in line waiting to get into an amusement park! You know that feeling right before you go to get on one a roller coaster that you know is going to make you scream your head off in absolute mind-numbing joy? Yeah, this was my roller coaster!

Bring on the endorphins…AND the food! πŸ˜‰

Not gonna lie, I totally wanted to jump in the bounce house with all the kiddos…but of course, there were bigger and better things awaiting to satisfy my ADD! πŸ˜‰

Food Truck-a-palooza!

There were about twelve to fifteen trucks lining the “dining lot” all offering up their specialities. When we first arrived, BB was starving, but I forced him to walk all the way through the lot before making a decision…

C’mon, I couldn’t let him make a rookie mistake and choose the first food truck he saw…true love people, TRUE love! πŸ˜‰

After a few minutes of roaming/drooling around the lot, he made his decision…

Just Like Nannie Fixed It!

He ordered the meat and three: meat loaf, mashed potatoes, pepperoni pasta salad, and country-style green beans which were hiding under the buttery delicious corncake.

And of course, he couldn’t deny himself the peanut butter pie once he spotted it on the menu…and you see why we get along so well! πŸ˜‰

Of course, he let me sample a bit of everything and I have to say that meat loaf was perfectly seasoned and perfectly ketchup crusted and those mashed potatoes? Tasted JUST like the ones my great grandmother used to make…guess the name of the truck holds true!

The pie had a great flavor but a little more mousse-y than I prefer…I like to SLICE into my pie…if I wanted pudding, I would get pudding! BB thought otherwise and demolished it in less than five minutes!

So, what did I chose to sink my teeth into?

As soon as I spotted The Grilled Cheeserie, I KNEW I had to get my hands on one of their gourmet sandwiches.

It was the longest line in the lot and took over 15 minutes to get to the ordering window, but it was totally worth it…

And besides I had my human shade screen!

Boyfriend trumps umbrella ANY day! πŸ˜‰

I actually saw this truck featured on the news a few months back while I was at the gym of all places, and practically drooled over my elliptical while dreaming of the day that I witness first-hand the specialty mac ‘n cheese sandwich!

But once I saw the menu, I just couldn’t do it…

Oh no…the Tex-Mex Turkey Melt had my name written ALL over it!

I switched out the pepper jack for smoked gouda and grabbed a little “tot sauce” (ketchup meets smoky cocktail sauce) for dipping and I just had to get some of their hibiscus lime marinated watermelon!

Warm gooey cheese, creamy avocado aioli, spicy chili-rubbed turkey, crisp sourdough bread…

Everybody say CHEESE PORN!

As for the watermelon, not really knowing what hibiscus should taste like (first timer over here), I thought it was good, but didn’t taste much different than regular watermelon…but totally appreciated on this hot afternoon!

After BB and I finished our meals, we took a little stroll through the park to see the Parthenon and the James Robertson monument (founder of Nashville) for the first time!

There was also a wedding going on…and omg, her dress was gorgeous! I would’ve tried to get a better picture, but…hello creeper! πŸ˜‰

Afterwards, we wandered around the surrounding gardens relaxing in the shade and taking in a bit of the cool breeze that finally decided to show up. With all the colorful flowers, trees, and the fountain, it was an absolutely gorgeous setting…

Not bad for an iPhone shot, huh? I LOVE that I got the bird in there!

And of course, I took about 37926 pictures of all the flowers…the red and yellow lilies were my favorite (if you can’t tell)!

After resting on that awesome looking bench (did you see it? Look ^ there!), we decided to call it a day and head back to the car…

But not before I got some dessert!

After much deliberation…aka, taste-testing, I decided to go with the incredible mango lychee topped with mixed nuts and shredded coconut from Maggie Moo’s

And yes, I totally asked for one of the sample spoons to eat it with! πŸ˜‰

I definitely have to say this day makes it on the list of “Best Days Ever”…right up there with the day I graduated college, the night I met BB, and when I first discovered the amazingness that is a BBQ and PB&J sandwich! πŸ˜‰

Now I just have to work on the other parts of my bucket list…

Run a half marathon, witness the Northern Lights, and travel/eat my way through Europe!

What are three things on YOUR bucket list?

Have you ever eaten from a food truck?

Ahhh so jealous! We have a food truck-aganza here in DC about once a month, but I haven’t yet been. It’s definitely on my list. I’m not sure I could limit myself to just one, though…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

ONCE A MONTH?!!? And you haven’t gone?! Seriously girl, you need to get on that…and then email me pics of the deliciousness! Lol!

  2. How cool!!! I’ve never been to a food truck. That would be awesome though! I definitely want to travel through Europe and practically all over the world. I want to sky dive too πŸ˜€

  3. Lizzi says:

Oh god I LOVEEEE this! So much food that is SO up my alley! I’ve never reaaallly eaten from a food truck, though there are a couple of ‘permanent’ ones near my house that’ve been there for like… 20 years. They sell standard greasy hangover food – burgers, fries, etc – and are only open from something like 9pm-4am. Definitely catering to the.. uhh.. inebriated crowd.
BUT i am going to Melbourne (my favourite Australian city, and where i was born… a mecca of delicious food. it’s in my blood, you see :p) in a few weeks and have every intention of hitting up the slightly more ‘high brow’ food trucks πŸ˜‰

My bucket list (as of this second. And not very well thought out.. I’m sure I’ll think of 374674 other things later):

    – Learn to ride a bike!!! Yes, I am almost 25 years old and cannot ride a bike. Shameful. My boyfriend bought me the most BEAUTIFUL yellow bike for my birthday last year, and it’s so wasted on me! Must fix this in time for Spring/Summer!
    – NYC + me = sexiest rendezvous ever.
    – “THE GREAT AMERICAN ROAD TRIP”.
    – See more of Europe.
    – Run another marathon.
    – Make a real life ‘bacon clafoutis’, a la my blog’s title πŸ˜‰
    – Create a piece of art I’m really happy with.
    – Learn some kind of musical instrument. I played trumpet as a kid, dabbled with guitar and piano in high school, but nothing really ‘stuck’. I want to at least feel semi-confident in something!
    – I’ve been thinking more and more lately of setting up some kind of sugary treats business… i’m always being asked to make my specialties: weird flavours of rocky road, insanely decadent brownies, granola, and caramel popcorn chock full of weird and wonderful bits and pieces! So I figure.. why not sell it?! At markets and stuff. Need to look into it more, but i think it’d be really cool πŸ™‚

    • Lizzi says:

OH! And finally make myself a BBQ & PB&J sandwich, inspired by some hot chick… πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, yes! You should see about getting in on some kind of farmer’s market thing…or even asking local coffee shops and such for a small area of counter to sell from. They might charge you for a little rent, but hello, totally worth it for those goodies! I’m practically drooling over here at the thought of “insanely decadent brownies”…I think that should be the name of them…definitely a good hook!

I’d like to learn how to play the piano. Everyone always asks me if I play since I have really long fingers…which is totally retarded, but it would feel good to be like, “Well yes, as a matter of fact I do. Should I play you a little Chopin?” Lol

Get your ass on that bike girl! But…invest in some knee pads first πŸ˜‰

  4. Ooh looks amazing! I’ve never been to a food truck festival, but living in NYC I’ve definitely eaten my fair share of food truck fare. Love them, so hard.

  5. Ahh that looks awesome! I totally would have gone for a grilled cheese too. πŸ˜€ I’ve never eaten from a food truck, but I’ve always wanted to. Eat St on the Food Network always visits such cool ones!

Hmm 3 things on my bucket list are to run in a race, visit Italy, and hike the Rockies in BC!

  6. We have a food truck meet up in Chicago too but I haven’t gone yet. I want too.. kinda. I kinda don’t because I know it’ll be trouble and I’ll spend too much money and eat way too much haha but it’s so so tempting. gotta love food trucks!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, I actually thought the exact same thing before heading out that day. I knew for sure I’d come home with one of the worst tummy aches due to overdoing it, but really I think I handled myself well. It’s all about the selection…and saving room for dessert! πŸ˜‰

  7. Looks like you had a blast!! I love food truck meetups so that the husband and i can each get what we want! I had a grilled cheese/fig combo a few weeks back and it was amazing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, definitely! The boyfriend probably could have eaten three of my grilled cheese sandwiches before filling full, but I never would have made it through his plate full of country cooking!

Mmm, grilled cheese and fig! I need to try that!

  8. 91% Chocolate Lover says:

Everything looked so amazing, but I think the yogurt looked the best! I had the most amazing breakfast today, thanks to you. I made your secret ingredient chocolate pancakes and topped them with a spoonful of vanilla yogurt, some grilled peaches, some toasted walnuts, and some chocolate chips. Just wanted to thank you!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, YAY!! You just totally made my day! I love it so much when I get feedback from my recipes…sometimes I feel like I’m only making them for people to look at. Thank you so much for letting me know what you think. And holy yum…that topping combination sounds out.of.this.world! LOVE grilled peaches! πŸ™‚

And obviously, by the look of this response, I love exclamation points as well!!! πŸ˜‰ !!!!!

  9. Gourmet food trucks are becoming so popular now and I love it! These eats look amazing and now I really want grilled cheese πŸ˜€

  10. That food truck meet up looks amazing! I just had my first food truck experience over the weekend, too! Eating from a food truck was high on my bucket list, and now I’m officially hooked! I would love to eat from some of the big-time food trucks in LA some day!

    On my bucket list:
    Run a Ragnar Relay
Buy a road bike and complete a sprint triathlon
    Go to a blogger conference/meet-up

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, I’m totally hooked! And you should TOTALLY come to next year’s Blend Retreat! It’s going to be AWESOME!!

  11. Minerva says:

We have a similar event called “The Gathering” here in Baltimore. Chicken and waffles, sliders, fancy grilled cheeses, bison burgers, and my favorite: mac n’ cheese cones with bacon bling. (Yes, it is as amazing as it sounds) Okay, now I’m officially starving.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ok, I seriously think my heart skipped a beat after I read “mac n’ cheese cones with bacon bling”…ohmigod! I need to get to Baltimore!

  12. Oh man, that looks like so much fun! I wish they had something like that where I live πŸ™‚

  13. Carly says:

That grilled cheese looks amazing! mmm avocado(: I have never been to a food truck festival but with this freshman program I applied for we get to go to New Orleans early and experience cajun culture and a food truck festival is on the agenda!!! yay(: Also on my summer bucket list right now is doing a triathlon, bringing my best friends to a Indian restaurant (because boy are the skeptical) and making a road trip down to see where my friend is going to college.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, that sounds like so much fun! I’ve never been to New Orleans, but my mom went once and just raved about everything! She couldn’t get over the drive-thru daiquiri stands! Lol

There’s an Indian restaurant in Nashville down the road from TJ’s that I keep saying I’m going to try someday. I’ve only ever been to one Indian place before that’s here in town and it was very unimpressive. But I’m not giving up yet!

      Woo hoo! Triathlon! Go girl!
