Thanksgiving Eats & Oompa Loompas

Hey guys!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

I’m joining in on the fun with Jenn and the crew and sharing all of the deliciousness over the last TWO days!

Yep! I was lucky enough this year to have not one, but TWO Thanksgivings!

Yesterday was lunch with my grandmother, cousin, and sister, Tori…

Turkey, my grandmother’s FAMOUS cornbread dressing, candied sweet potatoes, corn, and green beans, deviled eggs (all un-pictured), and a salad I threw together that ended up being pretty amazing thanks to a key ingredient I picked up at Sam’s Club…

Even BETTER than it sounds!

Along with some sliced red onion, pecans, and a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette, it was the star of the show…sorry Mr. Turkey! πŸ˜‰

YUM!

And for dessert: a slice of pumpkin bread and a fudgey brownie!

Tonight was one VERY filling dinner at my parent’s house…

Yeah, mom out-did herself a bit (like always)!

CruditΓ©s, candied sweet potatoes, BLT mashed potatoes, deviled eggs (made healthier by moi…shh, they don’t know!), gravy, ham AND turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce (homemade and the franken-variety for my dad), pumpkin pie, waldorf salad, my Caramelized Onion, Cranberry & Kale Saute, and finally, a chess pie.

So much goodness!

So much so that I could only manage ONE BITE of my mom’s
slice of pie by the end of the night!

Guess I’ll just have to request one for my birthday this year to make up for it! On the other HAND, maybe I should stop and think about the amount of pumpkin I’ve been eating lately…

My hand on the left and Tori’s hand on the right…I have problems!

What’s the BEST thing you ate during Thanksgiving?

Anyone else turning into an oompa loompa? πŸ˜‰

I totally ate pumpkin pie at my mom’s house tonight on the EXACT plate that you have your pumpkin pie on! Ha!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! These plates are CLASSIC! I can’t believe how many people on Instagram commented that they’re parents had them too!

  2. Looks like some great eats! I’ve never been big on pie (i KNOW!) but we had a mint pie option this year and I tried a small piece – AMAZING! I think if you swap out the normal crust for a graham cracker, or especially a chocolate graham cracker crust, I’m more like to enjoy it. I’m weird like that. πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’m right there with ya girl…I swear I’ve just never had a piece of pie that felt life changing or anything…now cheesecake is a different story. A friend of mine at work made a chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake that I will dream about till the day I die. Know what’s better than a graham cracker crust? One made out of chocolate chip cookies! πŸ˜€

  3. Both of your feasts look SO good, especially that pumpkin pie. That’s always my favourite part.

Hahaha that hand comparison is hilarious! I definitely have an orangey hint to my skin too. πŸ˜›

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I know, I couldn’t believe it! My mom was giving my sister and me some lotion and she’s like, “why are your hands so orange?” I hadn’t even noticed till then! Lol

  4. Robyn :) says:

The best thing I ate was the turkey πŸ™‚

  5. Two thanksgivings?! Not fair! I didn’t even get to enjoy ONE! Share some leftovers with this poor Canadian girl? πŸ˜€ And that hand comparison pic is hilarious, if a little scary πŸ˜› I used to have an orange tinge to me, but since easing up on the orange veggies because my stomach gets cranky when I eat too many, I think I’ve regained my normal hue. At least you don’t have to do any tanning this winter?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Yeah, right? It’s crazy because until then, I hadn’t even noticed the change!

And that’s one thing about not hosting Thanksgiving meals…the leftovers are scarce! I think I barely have enough for a couple of days…I’m definitely rationing it out carefully! πŸ˜‰

  6. Aww, man! Blog-reading this weekend has been brutal! I need to start taking trips to the States at this time so I can get both Thanksgivings! The food looks delish, and that cranberry goat cheese is like heaven in log-form. Oh, and did you see my little shout out in this post? http://healthinequilibrium.blogspot.ca/2012/11/i-love-my-oats.html

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, it’s SO good! I actually went by the store today and picked up another one since it’s a seasonal item and I think they’ll sell out soon! Lol And thanks for leaving the link…I’ve been out of the blogging loop all weekend…time to catch up! πŸ™‚

  7. julie says:

HAHA! our hands are the same color – actually i’m pretty sure mine are more orange than yours…

  8. I’m totally orange too!!! We can be oompa loompas together!
I’m still in a food coma. We had our 3rd Thanksgiving meal today… I FEEL like an oopma loompa!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, THREE?! I could barely handle TWO! I swear I thought I was going to need my sister to roll me out to my car the other night when it was time to head home! Lol

  9. See, I knew you should have stayed away from that pumpkin!!
Both Turkey Days look great, especially the fudge brownie…and I want to know how you did the eggs..yogurt, perhaps?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, you did didn’t you? πŸ˜‰ And just so you know, I posted the egg recipe JUST for you! I saw your comment last night, but didn’t get a chance to respond. πŸ™‚

  10. yuli says:

All the food looks delicious! Thanksgiving is such a good holiday to enjoy all these great treats.

I’m glad i’m not the only one with orange palms hehe I was starting to get a little worried but reading your post tonight gives me a slight of relief πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, nope…you’re not alone! And I didn’t even think I was eating that much…no telling how bad it would look if I had as much pumpkin as I really want! πŸ˜‰

  11. Yum! The picture of hands made me smile. I’ve been eating so many beets (even in my cranberry sauce!) that I’ll probably vibrantly fuchsia.
    I love your grandmother’s dishes.

  12. Hahaha that’s so funny!!! I’ve been eating a lot of pumpkin but not quite that much πŸ˜‰ Clearly I need to eat a few more pumpkin muffins, hehe

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I seriously don’t even feel like I’m eating that much! I mean, I did make Zandra’s pumpkin muffins so I had one or two of those a day, but that’s really it!

My hands are the same colour as yours! I have a total obsession with carrots and sweet potatoes and am a freaky freaky colour, seeing yours makes me feel slightly less odd πŸ™‚

  15. What beautiful plates of food! One of my favorite things about Thanksgiving, I think, is that everyone, all over the country, eats pretty much the same thing on the same day, one time a year. Sure, there are variations on the theme, and individual traditions, but the whole thing is just way too cool for a food culture enthusiast like me.

    That was a random tangent.

When I was in TX, my principal CONSTANTLY told me to go to a doctor because my hands were so orange. That was because of carrots, though. πŸ™‚
