Show & Tell

We made pet rocks.

We had Christmas parades.

We built solar systems out of styrofoam balls.

But we NEVER had Show and Tell when I was in school.

Clearly this is my chance to get back that time where I longed to share my latest in the Barbie collection, the Indian money I found on the playground, or the puppy I taught to sit, shake, and rollover.

So without further adieu, I present you with…

Things that make Heather squeal (aka what I bought in Atlanta):

Buford Farmer's Market Loot

My collection of goodies from Buford’s Highway Farmers Market!

Lupini Beans – they remind me of butter beans only with a bit of bitter/tartness to them…and they have FOURTEEN grams of protein per 1/2 cup serving!

Eggfruit – Laura said it tasted like vanilla custard…NO WAY I was leaving there without it!

Culinary Lavendar – Hmm, perhaps there will be some pancakes inspired by a certain vegan scone?? πŸ˜‰

Liquid Smoke in APPLE FLAVOR – need I say more?

Passionfruit – My very FIRST one!

Yali Pears – so crisp, so sweet, and so juicy that I made a mess out of my scrub top at work!

TWO YEAR aged Gouda – they had samples…and those samples WORKED! Oh my god, weak in the knees!!!

Teeny tiny itty bitty tittiesΒ patty pans – Oops, did I say that? πŸ˜‰

Dried persimmons – HELLO, persimmons are my favorite fruit…how could I turn this down?

Oat Fit Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal – I LOVE the cinnamon roll flavor so when I spotted these, I just had to get them…now I can’t decide which flavor I like more especially after this:

IMG_1545_2Maple & brown sugar oats + runny egg = KETTLECORN!

I kid you not!

I tried the passionfruit yesterday…it was definitely more tart than I thought it would be but in a good way!

PassionfruitA little stevia and some Cho and I was good to go!

Hee hee, I made a rhyme! πŸ˜‰

While I was pleasantly surprised with my passionfruit purchase, the REAL treat was this beauty:

Behold the all mighty eggfruit!

Never heard of it before? Don’t worry, I hadn’t either…that’s why I took plenty of pictures to share with the class you guys!

EggfruitThe peel is really thin, but bitter-tasting so I had to work like crazy do my best to scrape the flesh out with a spoon. The texture is like an overripe avocado but the taste? The taste is like SWEET pumpkin pie!

A bowl full of pie…

Or a pile of pooΒ of chocolate pudding! πŸ˜‰

I am seriously in love! Look out persimmon, you have some competition!

But there are OTHER things I found in Atlanta besides a carload of food…

My very first trip to IKEA definitely proved sucessful!

After TWO YEARS of looking for a modern looking dresser in WHITE that did not come with Disney princess decals, I finally found the ONE!Β I’m so excited for the man-friend to help me put it together this weekend!

Well, that is if he can forgive me for chasing him around the store with this:

DSC_0074Seriously, you guys, I have wanted one of these since my first REAL art class in middle school!

The man-friend says he’s creepy…

YMCA

I say he’s got style…he’s got grace…and his name shall be…BOB! πŸ˜‰

But Bob’s not the only thing I didn’t know I HAD to have…

DSC_0082Yay for foodprops!

AND a handy-dandy milk frother just like Kat’s! Mmm, chai lattes!

Oh and I also picked up this awesome bamboo salad bowl…

Aka Bob’s swimming pool!

Yeah, I’ve been having a bit too much fun with this! πŸ˜‰

Did you have Show & Tell at your school?

What’s your favorite exotic fruit?

  1. I want to try an egg fruit so bad, I wonder if I could find one in the UK…?

  2. Lucie says:

Ah, that eggfruit!!! It sounds delicious! I would say that you should create eggfruit-pancakes, but then I remember that we don’t have that here, so please no πŸ™‚ You got some pretty cool stuff in Atlanta! I have the milk frother too, love it! Bob….hm. I think I agree with the man-friend. Sorry. But in the end beauty is only skin deep, right? πŸ™‚ Love ya, xxxx

  3. Meg says:

no show and tell!? WHAT!? Thanks for sharing all of this πŸ™‚ I’ve heard of egg fruit before from a nutrition class, but haven’t had the chance to buy one! Your pudding looks amazing holy man!

    And apple liquid smoke!? YUM!

I have liquid smoke and need to crack open the bottle yet! Suggestions!? πŸ˜€

  4. Lee says:

Clearly, you need to move to Atlanta!

  5. You never had show and tell?! That’s inhumane! Please tell me that you at least had dodgeball! And while I can’t say much about exotic fruit (seriously, bananas are about as far removed from home as I go), I can definitely say that I need to make a trip to Ikea, stat. I’ve been eyeing one of their bookshelf units for a while now, but putting off going to the store simply because I get so sucked in every time I walk through the doors. The milk frother has convinced me, though πŸ˜‰

  6. I TOLD you that egg fruit was the shizz!!! I bought those same pears – so pretty and white! πŸ™‚

Does this mean you’ll come back a visit soon? We’ll get more egg fruit and make pancakes!

  7. Allie says:

Ooo ooo ooo! Are lavendar-scone-pancakes about to happen?? They better, I’ve been waiting! I was a bit disappointed by my first passionfruit too–gray, slimy, not really sweet…not sure it quite earns the “passion” name. I need to get on this eggfruit train though!

  8. I love picking up loads of different bits n bobs when i visit various other places!! It looks like you got loads of great stuff – i cant even get liquid smoke never mind in apple flavour wowwwww!

That egg fruit looks amazing too – i love pineapple I think yumm! We never did anything like show n tell at my school πŸ™ i dont think ive seen it in any british schools infact!

  9. This show and tell post is such a cute idea! Love that white dresser!

  10. Kat says:

Yay for IKEA and frothers!! I seriously love that store. and love my frother even more!
And that egg fruit…Im really not sure how I feel about that. Ive never seen anything like that before…it kinda freaks me out!

  11. I can’t get over your finds- definitely things that I wouldn’t initially think of trying myself but now I’m curious to try… Especially about the egg fruit and persimmon, those both would take me out of my usual fruity comfort zone πŸ˜›

  12. Sarah C. says:

I think that what you call Egg Fruit is actually Lucuma (at least it looks just like it). Its native to Peru where they put it in just about everything and it make devine ice cream. πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Actually, according to Wikipedia, they’re the same thing…just two different names! But now that I realize that lucuma POWDER is made from these, you better believe I’m picking up some on my next trip to Whole Foods…vanilla custard smoothies ftw! πŸ˜‰

  13. I’ve never even heard of egg fruit before… but now I really want to try it! I need to start visiting more ethnic grocery stores so I can find neat exotic fruits like that one!

Also I have that milk frother and I adore it. Being able to make lattes at home is awesome! πŸ˜€

  14. Can we roadtrip to Atlanta together??? I so want to go! πŸ™‚ We didn’t have show and tell either in school. What is up with these Tennessee schools???

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, YES!! Mini-Blend in ATL!! How fun would that be?!

And seriously, we need to petition…Tennessee tikes are missing out for sure!

  15. Jessie says:

I want a bob!! I’m pretty sure Joshua would be creeped out by him though too.. gives me more of a reason to get one. How funny would it be to wake him up w/ bob first thing in the morning πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, I’m totally taking it over to his house the next time I stay over just so I can see the look on his face when he rolls over and sees Bob on his pillow! Bahaha!

  17. Betty says:

Putting Ikea furniture together is def a relationship test, hopefully yours last last this weekend πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Well, luckily we passed with flying colors! I was seriously impressed with his patience! Had I been doing it myself, I’m sure there would have been at least ONE mental breakdown/temper tantrum! Lol

  19. I’ve never heard of eggfruit but it sounds amazing!! So jealous! πŸ™‚ I’m a big passionfruit fan….one added to a smoothie is incredible!

  20. I am glad I’m not the only one obsessed with persimmons. My fruit cart guy and my co-workers at shop think I’m nuts because I buy more everyday for my breakfast. Soooo good warmed on steel cut oats with pb. I will be very sad when the season is over.

I am also a huuuuge fan of baked good with lavender. I even had pickled lavender carrots recently and loved it. We have a lavender stand at the farmers market – i’m planning on making a stop by there tomorrow for some v-day inspired baking.

PS I need this eggfruit you speak of.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh, I’ve never even tried warming them before! You just reminded me that I need to pick up some more…the season is TOO short to go more than a couple of days without! Lol

Pickled lavender carrots, huh? Sounds so good! And I know your tastes…you will LOVE the eggfruit! Gah, they’re so good…I wish I could just mail them to everybody! Lol

  21. I really want that egg fruit! I don’t think I have EVER seen one. I have, however, seen dried persimmons at my Asian market. And by have seen, I mean, of course, bought two packages of them. πŸ™‚

Although my favorite Chobani flavor is passion fruit, persimmon will always be my favorite “exotic fruit.”

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh, if Chobani came out with a persimmon flavor, I would absolutely DIE!!! I seriously need to find some around here and be sure to get my fill before they go away for good! I asked a guy at Wal-Mart (ugh, bane of my existence) the other day, and he looked so confused! *eye roll*

Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with my dried persimmons…they didn’t have much of a taste at all! πŸ™ And girl, I know your tastes…you would FLIP OUT over this egg fruit! It’s actually the same stuff that lacuma powder is made from…which I hear is amazing and makes your smoothies taste like vanilla cake! Oh yeah, I am definitely getting me some of that! πŸ˜€
