Merry Christmas Survey

Happy THREE days before Christmas!

Though you wouldn’t be able to tell it by the weather WE’VE been having! It’s been crazy with sporadic storms and yesterday, it got up to 75 degrees with tornado warnings! Umm, happy first day of winter? πŸ˜•

Anywho, I’m not sure if you guys have seen this survey yet, but when I spotted it over on Amanda’s blog yesterday, I just KNEW I had to snatch it up…I’ve been having a bit of a hard time getting (and staying) in the Christmas spirit this year, but I have to say seeing Spoons all done up in red and green, did put a little twinkle in my eye! πŸ˜€

BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Do you send out Christmas cards?
When I was married and felt like I had to be all domesticated and stuff, I did, but since then, I usually don’t even remember until ohhhhh today! Whoops?

How soon do you start shopping?
I’m notorious for waiting until the last-minute (usually the week of) but for the last couple of years, I’ve been scoring deals on Cyber Monday so I guess that’s my new thing now. Gotta love a bargin…and being able to shop in my pj’s! πŸ˜€

Do you have a lot of gifts to buy?
No. Typically, I only shop for my parents and my sister…and of course now I have the man-friend! <3

Do you bake cookies?

Christmas PanCOOKIESNegative, ghost writer. But wait, do PANcookies count? πŸ˜‰

DECORATIONS

Do you put up a Christmas tree?
Usually…but year, I opted for something a little non-traditional…

Christmas Bob

Behold: Christmas Bob! πŸ˜†

If so, is it fake or real?Β
Honestly, I always grew up with fake trees (I think we had a real one ONCE), but I just don’t think they’re worth the extra work. I’ll just stick to my pre-lit tree with my evergreen scented plugin behind it! πŸ˜‰

Do you like tinsel?
Oh this one makes me laugh! Growing up, my dad was ALL ABOUT the tinsel…although we called them “icicles”…the tree was not finished until it was COVERED in those damn things! And you never could get them all off the tree afterward! Nowadays, I wouldn’t even THINK of ruining my crisp green plastic branches with them!

Do you use homemade or store-bought ornaments?Β

Christmas OrnamentsStore-bought…most of which were bought the day after Christmas the year before…what was that I said about loving a good bargain?

Do you put Christmas lights outside your house?
Unfortunately no, but I’ve always always ALWAYS wanted to. I know I’m an independent woman and we are SO beyond the times of gender-specific roles, but I can’t help but always think of that as “the man’s job”. I think it would be the best thing ever if I came home one day to a fully decorated house…hint hint WINK WINK, man-friend! πŸ˜‰

Do you put lights on the tree?Β
Two words: PREEEEEEEEEEEE LIT! Never will I EVER string lights on a tree again!

How about popcorn and cranberries?
And waste perfectly good popcorn and cranberries? How about a bowl for eating WHILE I decorate the tree with something the mice WON’T eat!

Is there a wreath hanging on your door?
Not this year…I know, no tree, no wreath…I sound like such a Scrooge, but it’s really hard to appreciate all that stuff when you live alone AND work nights.

CHRISTMAS EVE

Do you celebrate it?
Yup! The tradition growing up was that every Christmas Eve, my sister and I would open ONE gift (which would always be Christmas PJ’s) and then, after we put them on, we would meet my mom on the couch and she would read The Night Before Christmas to us. πŸ˜€

Do you hang up your stocking?
Yep! And every year, it’s filled with cuties, travel sized bath stuffs, makeup, and other mini-sized goodies!

Have you ever left cookies out for Santa?
We always set out Oreos before going to bed when I was little…mom somehow just KNEW they were Santa’s favorite I guess! πŸ˜‰

FAVORITE

Christmas Movie?
A Christmas Story! I LOVE that it marathons every year on Christmas Day!

Character from any Christmas Movie?

Max!

Christmas Song?
Honestly, it’d be easier to pick my LEAST favorite song: I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus…makes me CRINGE!!

Christmas Memory?
I entered an essay contest one year through my mom’s work and won a train set with an engine that blew real “smoke”! My dad helped me put it together and we spent the whole night playing with it at the base of the Christmas tree! πŸ™‚

Christmas Cookie?

Candy Cane CookiesBack when I DID bake cookies (and give them as gifts), these candy cane cookies I found in a little recipe book in the check out lane of the grocery store have always been my favorite…they’re almond shortbread with crushed candy pieces on top!Β

THIS OR THAT

Give or Receive?
Give…I LOVE seeing the look on people’s faces when they open their gifts!

Ham or Turkey?
We typically do turkey on Thanksgiving and ham on Christmas, but this year? This year, we’re doing BRUNCH!! Cue happy dance!! πŸ˜€

Star or Angel?

Christmas tree 2012I always grew up with an angel, but every tree I’ve decorated since living on my own, I’ve put a big bow on top!

White Lights or Colored Lights?
I think white lights look a lot prettier…and they don’t clash with all my ornaments.

Blinking Lights or Still Lights?
Still…blinking lights make me antsy.

Were you Naughty or Nice this year?
I’d like to say I was nice, but well, I don’t know if Santa would approve of my language! πŸ˜‰

PRESENTS

What do you want for Christmas this year?
Well, I already told you guys that!

When do you open your gifts?
Usually on Christmas Day…unless our schedules clash and we have to celebrate early/late.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever gotten?
A PONY!Β πŸ˜€

What’s the worst gift you’ve ever gotten?
You know those paddles with the rubber ball attached to them by a string? Well, every year, my grandmother would get us kids one for Christmas and every year we would try to hide them from our parents so they didn’t end up seeing our backsides! Lol

Do you like wrapping gifts?

Christmas 2012 GiftsI usually procrastinate and complain about doing it, but once I get in the middle of it, I’m like a gift-wrapping NINJA! I love it!

RANDOM

Can you name all the reindeer?
β™«Β Dasher and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen…but do you recaaaaaaaaaaall the most FAMOUS reindeer of alllllllllll?!?! β™«

Have you ever gotten a kiss under the mistletoe?
Yep! My mom hangs some above the entry to the kitchen every year!

Do you go caroling?
Umm, does anyone outside of a Lifetime movie ACTUALLY do that?

Do you drive around and look at the Christmas lights?

Christmas LightsI do! That’s actually one of my favorite things to do…and now that I think about it, I haven’t done it this year…YET!

Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Almost. We had a HUGE snow storm a few years ago a week before Christmas, but it was pretty much all melted by the 25th…boo!

Who do you celebrate Christmas with?
My mom, dad, my seeeester, Tori…and the man-friend! πŸ˜€

Have you ever had your picture taken with Santa?Β
Who hasn’t! Aww, I wish I could find one to share!

What part of Christmas do you look most forward to?
Christmas morning! But not because I want to tear through some wrapping paper. I just love the feeling in the air…the love, the giving…there’s just something so great about that!Β

What is your favorite Christmas tradition?

What’s the BEST gift you’ve ever received?

Feel free to answer any of the other questions too! πŸ˜€

  1. Aww, such a fun review! So many traditions you guys have, which I don’t even have an idea what it is πŸ™‚
I don’t even know if we can buy fake trees here. At least not that I know of. So yes, we have to handle the mess every year, INCLUDING the dripping wax of the real candles! Favorite christmas tradition are the countless strolls over the christmas markets during December and drinking mulled wine!

  2. I love Max! He’s the best!!
And REAL trees all the way! Wanna see me have an embarrassing Christmas tantrum? Tell me you’re buying me a fake tree. Haha

  3. I have so many Christmas traditions I wouldn’t know where to start picking my favorite one. I can tell you my mom always made baked goods for the neighbors and even though I live in a different state, I’ve picked up the tradition. This year I’ll be making Orange Cranberry White Chocolate Scones with an orange glaze. Oh yeah, they’re good.

I’m doing a Week In Review: The Holiday Edition tomorrow. Feel free to link this puppy up.

Our trees couldn’t be any more different if we tried. I love the read deal, and my design astetic can only be described as ecclectic: colored lights, store bought ornaments, homemade ornaments, ornaments passed down from generation to generation. The hubby and I decorate it together every year, and it’s always a lot of fun.
I did notice and thoroughly enjoy, I might add, your photo bomb in the last ornament picture.

Omg, those scones sound incredible! Anything that incorporates white chocolate into breakfast is A-OK in my book! πŸ˜‰ I love that you and the Hubby always decorate together. I tried to get my ex to do things like that with me…to help start new traditions…but he never joined in. Guess that’s one of the MANY reasons he’s my ex, huh? Haha, I think you’re the only one who noticed the ornament pic!

Just linked up and now I’m off to read ALL about your Christmas traditions and shenanigans! πŸ˜€

  4. Robyn :) says:

My favorite tradition is looking at Christmas lights. The best gift I ever received was my Funshine Carebear and a dollhouse my cousin made me.

    Merry Christmas, Heather!!!!

  5. Bahahhaha Christmas Bob kinda creeps me out lol but it’s hilarious anyway. Aren’t you a funny one. Merry Christmas, love!

  6. Susie says:

There are 2 Christmas traditions that I miss the most (a riff on the fave tradition question): 1) making frosted Christmas cookies with my brother and grandmother in her kitchen in New York when we would visit at thanksgiving. 2) getting up with my brother at the crack of dawn Christmas morning and getting to open our stockings and the unwrapped presents (our parents left some unwrapped to keep us occupied!). I have so many memories of watching my brother play video games while I read and listened to a new cd…

  7. I think I love Christmas Bob!! hahah!

  8. lindsay says:

you can come wrap for me and bring me some of those cookies. I’m way behind. I promise not to sing carols.

  9. I love Max too!!! He’s such a little cutie & you just gotta feel for him. πŸ™‚

  10. Maria says:

I love these surveys and how they give me insight on how others celebrate Christmas. And I agree – that feeling on Christmas morning – it’s just so warm fuzzy. I cannot even put it into words. I’ll try to remember that feeling when I’m out shopping like a banshee tomorrow trying to finish up! Also, please come wrap for me. I just cannot bring myself to start…and your gifts look adorable.

  12. I’ve been having a hard time getting in the Christmas spirit this year too – it just doesn’t feel like Christmas yet!

My favourite Christmas tradition is doing a potluck dinner and board game night at my Aunt’s house on Christmas Eve. I usually end up laughing until I cry at some point haha.

  13. I just watched the Grinch last night, and Max is definitely the best character in that movie. And for the record, no, no one outside of Lifetime movies goes caroling πŸ˜‰

  14. betty says:

my mom LOVES tinsel.. I HATE IT. haha and I make Barbara hang the lights cause i’m afraid of heights πŸ™‚ cant rely on a man in our house πŸ˜‰

  15. Mom says:

I love what you did with “Bob”!!!! I love reading all your favorite things!! It makes me feel like I was a good mommy!! By the way, did I ever tell you that I got my first kiss under some mistletoe? The kiss-er was Dad!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg!! No, you never told me that! Awwwww!

PS, I’m gonna get the man-friend under the mistletoe with dad around to see what he’ll do…or how many shades of red he will turn! πŸ˜‰ Can’t wait to see you tomorrow…er, today! πŸ˜€

  16. Kat says:

Whats up with the pre-lit thing?! I grew up LOVING putting xmas lights on the tree, but now my hubby is like we are getting a pre-lit one as soon as we can afford it! I don’t get it…I love hanging the lights!!
Oh and I lovvvveeee the idea of the big bow atop a Christmas tree!! What a nice way to be different yet still classy. Seriously going to have to look in to that!

  17. Love bows on top of trees! Super pretty. I agree about the cranberries and the popcorn… um string that into my mouth please. Lol. My favorite Christmas tradition is just spending Christmas Eve with my family and drinking hot chocolate.

  18. While waiting for my breakfast to digest before hitting the Boxing Day sales, what better thing to do that a little A bombing πŸ˜‰

    1. Pancookies DEFINATELY count- especially if it’s by the breakfast Queen herself!
    2. Christmas bob= genius. Who needs a tree?
    3. …you like wrapping presents? That’s like punishment. Actually, whoever receives gifts from me in the past after my wrapping attempts probably thought I butchered it on purpose!

  19. Fran@BCDC says:

We do send Christmas cards each year. In fact, Ralph does the artwork and they seem to be pretty popular. Check out my WIR and you’ll see our card for this year. Some years it’s like pulling teeth to get him to have the artwork completed on time to get them out, but we always get in under the wire. Have a great day, Heather!
