Thinking Out Loud

Hidy Ho Broccoli fans!

What’s up my peeps?!

Hey you guyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyys! πŸ˜€

Um yeah, so obviously I’m having a bit of a hard time in the intro department…or more specifically, the writing department! Have you noticed I’ve been a little “missing” from blog world lately? Truth be told, I just haven’t been feeling it for the last few weeks. No worries…I don’t plan on going anywhere any time soon (unless I win the lottery and in that case, I’ll be on the FIRST plane to Hawaii or another destination with a ridiculously warm climate), but I may only be popping in and out over the next couple of weeks.

But today, I’m popping IN with some OUT loud thinking!Β

Okay, so that segue was a bit of a stretch, but go with it. I got behind in my blog reading last week and totally missed Amanda’s very first link party. And well, since I’ve had a girl-crush on her for YEARS now, I’m here today to join in on the fun! Plus it gives me a reason to share a bunch of randomness with you…

Naked 3

1. Like the fact that I believe Amanda has single-handedly created a monster diva! This past summer, I ventured into Sephora for the very FIRST time and now? Now I’m shrieking like a prepubescent girl at a Bieber concert after getting the latest update on makeup inventory! For the record…totally worth it!

Selfie

2. I wasn’t sure if I liked the hoop my sister got me for my birthday, but after a couple of weeks, it’s really grown on me. I can’t wear it to work, but that just makes me feel like it comes a new persona…the weekend REBEL Heather! πŸ˜‰

Istanbul Combo

3. Speaking of weekend, last weekend, the man-friend and I met some friends at Istanbul Cafe. After we polished off a bowl of the creamiest of hummuses (hummi?) and some incredible lentil soup, he and I shared the House Combo which was DELICIOUS…also, I want to bathe in their house-made ranch and tzatziki!

4. I have been SO much more relaxed about food lately. Before Istanbul was mentioned, there was talk of going to Logan’s, Rafferty’s, or a little Italian place down the road and I was completely fine with anything…yeah, the old me would have had to check the online menu first to be sure there were items that I “could” eat without having a freakin’ meltdown.

5. I want to clarify something. I’m afraid that I might have come across a little dramatic in my post last Thursday. While I KNOW it was just a virus and things could have been a LOT worse, I just want you guys to know that what I felt in those hours really reached deep within me…and forced me to come face-to-face with a lot feelings I’ve been suppressing. So I guess what I mean to say is that it was MY rock bottom.

Cereal

6. Since then, I swear I’ve been a completely different person! I’m making my food choices based on what I want and not thinking twice about it…even if I have had cereal for breakfast every.single.day for the last week. I don’t care; I love it!Β πŸ˜‰

Divergent Roth

7. I prefer hardbacks to paperbacks but I ALWAYS removed the cover before reading so it doesn’t get messed up. Am I the only one who does this? Also, am I the only one who thinks Veronica Roth is a total babe? Oh and by the way, I’m 100 pages in and totally hooked!

Quest Bar

8. The last cookie dough Quest bar I ate was the DOUGHIEST most wonderful thing EVER and perhaps even the best thing I’ve eaten this week…since that platter of Turkish deliciousness.

9. Even though I hate clutter and love the cathartic feeling of throwing things away, sometimes I hold on to stuff and I have no idea why, but last week, I couldn’t have been happier that I decided to keep my “souvenir” plastic beer mug from last year’s Oktoberfest because…

Mouse

10. I used it to catch a frickin’ MOUSE!!!

Holy mother of (*^*%&@^$@! <- My EXACT reaction when I caught the poor little bastard thing! After the whole traumatizing situation was over, I couldn’t help but laugh at myself for getting all screamy and weak in the knees. And actually, he’s kinda cute! Lol!

  1. Naked3! Oh you lucky lady! I ordered mine TWO weeks ago and it STILL hasn’t come in! I went the online route because I thought it would be safer than trying to get it in stores (they sold out so quick in the past), and now I’m KICKING myself for doing it because so many people I know are enjoying their palettes and mine got lost along the way πŸ™ I wasn’t planning on opening it until Christmas anyways, but I just want it to be here, safe and sound, ya know?

Speaking of safe and sound… apparently that’s how Mr. Gus Gus feels — what the heck was Tiger doing?! You’re right, though — he’s seriously a cutie. Oh, and cereal for breakfast every day? Why not?! Cereal is amazing. Lately I’ve been craving a bowl of cereal for lunch, and no fancy pimped out ones either — just plain old cereal and milk like I used to do when I was a kid.

PS – thank ya for joining this week! The girl crush feeling is totally mutual, just so you know <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      Aww, feeling the love! xoxo

I actually ordered mine online too! The closest store to me is in a really busy mall in Nashville that I wouldn’t dare stepping foot in around this time of year…it actually got to my house in just a few days! Have you checked with the company to see what’s up?

Ugh, don’t even get me started on Tiger’s lack of CATtitude! πŸ˜‰ And yes to plain cereal…sometimes it’s good to get back to your roots!

  2. I love the hoop nose ring! I used to always want one when I was back in high school, but I was too scared to pierce my nose haha.

I’m so glad things are going so well for you in the food department lately! πŸ˜€

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thanks lady! And honestly, the nose piercing felt like it did when I got my ears done…a LOT less painful than my navel!

  3. OMG, Amanda totally turned me into a beauty diva too! I’ve spent more money at sephora over the past 6 months than I have in a lifetime and confession…. I love it!!! Also, I still can’t believe you caught that darn mouse. He was super cute but man, they need to stay away from the house!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Seriously, you just made me feel SO much better…because I’m in the exact same boat! Haha! And I can’t believe I caught him either…I swear if I din’t have a picture I’d think it was all a dream nightmare! Fingers crossed he doesn’t find his way back!

  4. Are you reading MockinJay? I want to read that book so bad! I asked for it for Christmas, so hopefully this time next week I can be reading it. πŸ™‚ I’m glad you are doing better in the food department. I definitely let myself enjoy more treats than I used to, and I am so much happier now! And oh my goodness I would have been scared to death to catch that mouse! I hate mice! Kudos for catching it.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Actually it’s Divergent. I read the Hunger Games trilogy last year though, but the first book was my favorite.

Oh and believe me, I about had twenty heart attacks while cornering that little “beast” in my pantry…I swear it’s a wonder my neighbors didn’t call the police! Lol

  5. I haven’t been in Sephora in months because I’m afraid that you guys will all turn me into an addict πŸ˜‰
And yess on the nose ring! They are more fun, aren’t they?! I had to switch to a stud over the summer due to my job, but I’m soooo glad to get the hoop back. So badass πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Don’t do it…don’t!!! You WILL be corrupted! But you will also have plenty of pretties to play dress up with! πŸ˜‰ Also, is it bad that I wish I could back up to Halloween and go as some bad ass biker babe? Lol

  6. Hummi! Ahahaha, I love that!
And the mouse….WHERE was tiger?? That’s HIS job! but yeah – it really IS cute!
I’m so jealous you guys have Sephora – on the other hand it’s a good thing I can’t buy stuff there, I would be completely ruined!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Right? That’s what I was saying! Guess he’s been too busy peeing on the carpet for such trivia things as mouse hunting! *grumble*

  7. Ok I’ve been meaning to tell you! The last BOX of cookie dough Quests I received were the most amazing ones yet! I swear some of the chocolate chunks were an inch long! HUGE chunks! I don’t care who got lazy with the knife in that kitchen, they should get a raise!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Oh you just reminded me that I’ve been meaning to tell YOU something…I finally cracked into those caramel Mini Pops! Ohhhhhh my GAWWWWD!! Whyyyyyyyyyy? Why do they have to be so damn delicious?!

  8. I love eye shadow palates, but I always end up using all of two colors.. I just don’t know how to venture out when it comes to makeup. I need help!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’m usually the same way, but I’m actually forcing myself to use colors that I wouldn’t normally gravitate to…and I like mixing them too! I’ve also been experimenting with different shades on different parts of my eyes and playing with eyeliner (which I’ve never been the best at). It’s definitely a learning process, but it’s fun “playing” dress up while I experiment! Lol

  9. All I can think about is how I have 24 hours left at my job and I CANNOT WAIT…and that I want a nose ring!

  10. Anna says:

I always take the jacket off a book before I read it too! I’m all about keeping them in perfect condition so I hate when the jackets get all bent up and torn haha.

Also, that mouse is strangely cute. When I discovered one in my kitchen a few months ago, I had a near meltdown because it was so unexpected. It was chilling on top of my stove too, so that completely freaked me out.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh! Haha! Yeah, it’s totally the surprise element that scares me the most…and the fact that they are so friggin’ FAST! *shudder*

  11. Post intros are HARD! YOu should have been with us for the buttternut “hummus.” The texture was unreal. I mean, I like the one I make but whoa. The guys said they make it in the bakery so it’s super-whipped. One might even say they whip it real good. πŸ˜‰

  12. Courtney says:

I just finished exams so I’ve still got neuroscience on the brain. It’s annoying because I notice when I do things like THINK and MOVE I can’t help but think of what’s going happening on a neuronal level. It’s annoying. Did this ever happen to you while studying science? Anyways… I don’t think your post was at all dramatic – like I said in my comment, it was open and honest! I only meant to express my understanding for how crappy it feels and how real it is to be in that place. Happy to hear your relationship with food is positive right now! When I’m coming out of a tough time I tell myself it wasn’t a step back, it’s just the cha-cha! Lame but it works for me :p

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, yes! I did that all the time! When I was learning about the body in x-ray school, any time I had a pain, I would try to self-diagnose or at least try to figure out what bone/organ was in that area! Lol

And I so appreciate your comments on the food issues (both now and on the last post). I just wanted to clear it up for anyone who may not have commented and just thought I was trying to get people to pity me or something…which is the LAST thing I want to convey in my posts. And the cha cha thing? Not lame at all…actually it’s kinda brilliant! πŸ™‚

  13. So jealous of your Naked 3 palette, I’m still working on #1 and am trying to use the excuse that one of the shadows broke to buy #3. I hope it works on my husband for Christmas. πŸ™‚

I love #4- that’s an amazing realization to have how it should be around this time!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Yeah, this was definitely a “I want it so I’m going to buy it” thing…especially since I just bought #2 this summer and am nowhere NEAR finished with it! But I did get a pretty good deal on it! πŸ˜€

And thank you…it feels so good to be feeling “normal” again…and I’m sure the man-friend appreciates being able to pick freely whenever we are deciding where to have dinner!

  14. betty says:

but that mouse is too cute! haha I understand your ups and downs.. ive had A LOT this year, but hopefully 2014 will be the year for me to set everything straight and get ahold of my actions, including binges.

  15. I shouldn’t say it but I can’t get over how damn cute that mouse is. Yes I know they are vermin but seeing him there makes me want to have it as a pet πŸ™‚

I am so so proud and amazed by how you are doing when it comes to food and that reaching your rock bottom has had such a great effect on this.

It took me ages to realize when you said your sister got you a hoop you meant for your nose. I thought it was the scarf like an infinity scarf…I was all kinds of confused πŸ˜‰

My main thoughts right now are filled with counting down to the holidays!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I know! He is kinda adorable…as long as he’s not running around my pantry eating my cereal! I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn’t find his way back in! Lol! And thank you for your support girlie…it means so much to me! How have you been doing? I confess that I’ve gotten SUPER behind in your blog, but I promise you will get a good broccoli bombing TONIGHT! πŸ˜‰

  16. Lee says:

I would flip the eff out if I found a mouse in my house. But he is kinda cute.

Side note, once there was a snake in our living room. It was actually in Jason’s pants which sounds like some dirty joke, but he had a pair of pants and other laundry on the couch and was going to put them away and picked them up and a snake fell out. I screamed and ran out of the room.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

OMG!!!! That is INSANE! I’m not as afraid of snakes as I am of mice (actually when I was dating my ex, I learned a lot about them and can appreciate them more), but a surprise like that surely would have had me running too!

  17. I’m a big fan of the hoop. Hoop=rebel weekend Heather. πŸ˜‰

  18. ohmygoshasif! i do the same thing with allll of my books! πŸ™‚ and i would much rather read a hardcover edition..paperbacks just don’t do anything for me! I think i’m raising my son to think the same way..ha!

AND #asifyoucaughtamouse!! You are officially my shero! πŸ™‚

  19. Aww, that mouse is adorable!!! Haha, that’s too funny about removing the book covers… I’ve never heard of anyone doing that before.
Proud of you for being so relaxed with food!! Good for you girl!! πŸ™‚

  20. Didn’t you know mice are an amazing source of protein? You should have whipped that bugger in a pancake!

That middle eastern Delight looks amazing- can’t wait for you to win the lottery to come to Australia and get my mum to make you some Persian food. Speaking of food- Love how lax you were about food choices and the notion to check online etc- I can relate and LOVE how it’s become so freeing.

Quest bars….seriously they are the one food which is the MOST inconsistent out there- you get a texture surprise each and every time!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, GAG!!! I may be open to trying all sorts of foods, but I draw the line at rodents! Lol!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that about Quest bars…I’ve gotten a lot more lately that have been softer, but I really couldn’t believe this cookie dough one…I swear it took all the restraint I had not to have another one! Haha!

A winning lotto ticket, now THAT is something I should’ve asked Santa for Christmas! πŸ˜‰

  21. Please tell me you actually meant to make me feel better (!) about not having any Sephore stores over here. Because … I’m clearly saving money that way and that’s good, right? Pah, who am I kidding? I’m jealous, that’s it ;).
The mouse! Will you believe me I found some rumbling around in our kitchen rubbish bin numerous times as a child? Luckily not more than one at a time but I was scared nonetheless. Fingers crossed for you the little guy – did you name him? – didn’t bring a whole family with him … talking from experience here.
Randomness on my mind right now: Only four days [minus one seeing as stores aren’t open on Sundays] left to find a Christmas gift for my grandma and grandpa. I wanted to go the homemade route for them but my mind is blank.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I DID name him actually…Gus Gus! I’m sure you of all people can appreciate that! πŸ˜‰ And funny you should mention it, because the very next day, I happened upon his twin brother! Luckily, all has been quiet since then, but I still have yet to unpack half of my pantry from the plastic storage bins I put everything in for “protection” from the little devils! Lol!

Aww, I hope you found the perfect gift for your grandparents! But more importantly, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and just enjoy being with your family! *hugs*

  22. He is a cute little mouse. Mr. Gus Gus. I’m glad you took him outside, instead of feeding him to Tiger. Max would have eaten that little fella faster than he ate your pancake.
I think you should bring that Rebel Heather to me along with some of that ranch and tzatzik sauce. I will help you eat it all and then we can sing and dance I don’t care; I love it. πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Yeah, I’m pretty sure Tiger would have jumped up and ran the other way at the first sight of Mr. Gus Gus…he’s SUCH a scaredy cat! And I seriously wish I could just teleport you here to me right now…I could nurse you back to health with pancakes and then we would definitely be singing and dancing the day away! πŸ˜‰

  24. Thinking Out Loud is so fun. I’m glad you’ve joined the party, too. πŸ™‚

    Ok, where to start…
“Expensive” makeup is so worth the investment. I don’t want to pay $40 for eyeshadow either, but it’s either THAT, or have my eyes swell up and burn from cheap cosmetics. I use Clarins right now, but I find anytime I try to use ‘drugstore’ eyeshadow, my eyes feel so sore and tired.

For a while there, I really hated Quest bars – the ones I initially tried were so hard and gross tasting. Lately, I’ve been eating the coconut cashew bar and I must admit… it’s delicious! Except, it makes my chest and throat feel heavy & tight afterwards, I don’t know whats up with that?

I feel bad for mice. It’s not their fault they’re a pest. πŸ™ I used to have a pet mouse. It had blonde, shiny fur… hair? like me. He smelled really bad though, so I gave him away.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh girl, I hear ya! When I first bought the Naked 2 palette, I couldn’t wait to get back to the house to “play”…then I shouted to the man-friend from the bathroom how friggin’ awesome it was! Lol

That IS weird about the Quest bars! I wonder if you have some sort of sensitivity to one of the ingredients? I also wonder if they’ve reformulated the bars over the last year or so, because when I first tried them, I was not really a big fan…they are so much softer now though!

  25. Mom says:

Lord have mercy Heather…I thought that mouse was MUCH bigger from the way you carried on!!! That is a baby mouse. Awwwwww he’s so cute! or WAS so cute!!

  26. I’m loving the rebel Heather look. It totally works for you. It’s always fun playing the rebel once in a while ;).

Ahhh Sephora is the second most dangerous store in the entire world (Target being the first, of course). The best is when the people who work there do your makeup for you with amazing new products. I could just die.

AND THE MOUSE OMG OMG OMG. It’s very adorable through the computer screen, but I’m pretty sure I’d piss my pants if I saw it in real life.
